[Q] HTC ONE M7 Paranoid Android custom kernel - General Paranoid Android Discussion

Hello, I have been using Paranoid Android roms for a long time (Moto G).
I recently acquired a HTC ONE M7 and currently have Paranoid Android '4.5-BETA3' flashed. I want to flash a custom kernel but am unsure which are compatible with PA 4.4.4.
My device is UK 32GB Non-Gpe.
Thanks.
Oli

At first: i am new to custom Roms. Is it Necessary to Flash a custom Kernel?

you will need to find a kernel that is compatible with cm11/aosp. both cm11 and aospa are based on aosp and they use the same kernels.

no, since the rom comes pre-packaged with the default aosp kernel configuration for your device. you can flash a custom kernel for extra features and whatnot, however the kernel that comes in the rom will suffice.

Nexus stock VS AOSP difference

I have just rooted my newely aquired Nexus 7 land want tot install a custom ROM. At least i think i do. Can someone please explain to me what the difference is between the stock nexus 7 and an aosp rom.
I have always had custom ROMs installed on my S3 and there the difference is pretty clear. Here it seems like stock and aosp are the same. So maybe a stock based ROM like cleanrom would be a good choice?
Don't forget AOKP!
I would also like this clarifying in laymans terms, as AOSP and AOKP pickle me !

Yes, AOSP is Google unmodified rom (base for other vendors like HTC .. etc)
Nexus 7 is Google device = AOSP rom
AOKP rom and Cyanogenmod is an open source replacement firmware for smart phones and tablet computers based on the Android mobile operating system. It offers features and options not found in the official firmware distributed by vendors of these devices. (wiki quote)
Great. So installing Paranoid Android would basically give me Nexus 7 stock with some added features.
Exactly what I was after.

AOKP, AOSP?

I'm running the official aokp 4.2.1 rom on my nexus 10. I was wondering if I were to flash say the paranoid android 3.15 rom which is aosp, would I need to do something special when going from aokp to aosp rom's? Also, was wondering how to update TWRP 2.4.4.0 from an older version of TWRP? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Even though you could have put a little effort into searching for the answer but since you didn't, I'm here.

I don't want to sound like a jackass but Searching for your problem before making a thread would be great

I know how to flash lol. I just didn't know whether there were different steps that I have to follow for flashing AOKP roms and AOSP roms or whether i would have to flash differently when coming from/ going to one to the other lol. Hope I didn't come off as being an a-hole, just was wondering lol

Custom Rom recommendations

Hello everyone,
I recently rooted my LG G2, and would like to install a custom rom on it. I have been overwhelmed with the number of the roms that i have found for the G2. Some well known roms such as CM11 and Paranoid Android, and many others. I wanted to ask for recommendations on which roms to install, and whether it's best to install an AOSP based rom or stick with a stock based rom such as Cloudyflex or the Optimus rom. I'd appreciate any help or if someone could point out the feautures and benefits of each rom. Sorry if it's a noobish question
I've tried many, both stock based and AOSP. I've decided to stick with Pardus. It's very stable and battery life is great.
Cm 11 just right from cyanogenmod site for aosp or cloudy g3 get my vote.
Dormanx kernel is good on g2 based Roma with 2.8 ghz overclock, haven't tried it on g3 Rom yet.
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Free mobile app
Try cloudyg3 rom.. Amazing UI like g3
All apps ported from it
Amazing battery life =)
Thank you guys for your replies. I tried CM11 but would also like to try cloudyflex 2.4. It says that If I used an Aosp based rom, that I should install the KK baseband, but I don't know which baseband to use? I'm using the d802 G2 but there are multiple basebands for the d802. Does anyone know which one I should choose?

You will have to wait for pure nexus to update. The update is for the stock rom so it wouldn't work on updating a custom rom anyways. As for a kernel you can flash any custom one you want. As long as it is supported for the rom type you are using.
Customroms comes with some kernel. So if u dont want flash any other kernel, u dont need to.

You can't flash a stock update over a custom ROM, you'd need to ediwait for Pure Nexus to release their updated build (it isn't usually too long after the official release). The stock kernel will be overwritten if you flash a custom ROM, every ROM contains a kernel otherwise the device wouldn't even boot.

There was only one stock based custom rom called trupure. It is no longer supported and hasn't been updated in quite a while, but it used to be quite popular. It is based on marshmallow stock.
AICP is my favorite custom rom for a mix of features and good stability. The maintainer of the LineageOS base and TWRP for this phone also maintains AICP.
Lots of users swear by DU too. You won't find it here, but you should be able to find them by searching for it.
