[Q] NooB alert! - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello XDA World
I have been a lover of the Samsung range for some years now but never really delved into rooting.
I have owned a 2nd hand Galaxy note 3 which I purchased from CEX in the uk back in April. It was an unlocked BTU version. But it died last week.
CEX have replaced the unit fine. But its the Vodafone ATL (spain) version currently. still has the Vodafone apps on it.
What I want to do is convert this to the UK BTU version that I know and love.
what do I need to do please? forgive me if this has been asked several times. and please no "search the forum" statements. there is way too much information to know to begin to start looking!
If someone can give me some pointers I can work out the rest myself. I just need pointing in the right direction.
Many thanks
Liam

As it was BTU, you can download BTU firmware and flash it using Kies or Odin.
Install the Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app, go to the 'Firmware Browser' menu, enter 'BTU' into the CSC textbox and tap the Go button to search.

Samsung Galaxy S in Europe: different versions for different countries?

Hi!
I am from Portugal and I'm about to buy an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S in an online store in europe.
So, my questions are:
1. Is there any trouble buying outside Portugal? Is is true that each country has its own CSC version and that buying outside Portugal can have influence oin future firmware updates?
2. Or are all Samsung Galaxy S for european market all the same, and I can buy withou any fears?
I am a little confused about thoses CSC versions and all, so if you can explain it to me like I'm a 5 year old kid, i'd apreciate it!
Thanks
RM
PS: If you could explain to me what is that CSC anyway, it ould be great!
Devices will come with a CSC relevant to where you buy them, but I don't believe you need to stick with the CSC your device came with. Mine was I9000TMUJE6 (from T-Mobile UK) but I'm now using CSC I9000OXXJM1, which came with the JM2 firmware on the samsung-firmwares site. Everything still works fine.
It's possible you might have to re-enter your APN settings without the relevant CSC (I did a Titanium Backup restore, which probably did that for me), but that's no big deal.
I don't think any European ones are different to each other either, as far as I know.
Hi !
I've bought mine online from UK and now I use it in Israel without any problem whatsoever.
You really should read the big FAQ in the Dev section, It'll make your life easier.
Don't worry about the CSC file, you can always flash a Portugal specific through Odin (if such exists or will be available in your country later on).
Good luck mate.

just got an s4 i9505 help unbranding

Hi guys just recieved my s4 today in the uk.
Its locked 2 three i dont like it branded.
can anyone tell me which firmware i should flash to
sim free version uk
And the newest 1 plz
Tbh don't bother unbranding it, if you want updates quick then your better off staying with the 3 firmware you have already got installed.
Updates on Simfree are painfully slow, compared to the networks we are still waiting for the update that 3 got a month ago.
If you still want to go ahead and unbrand your S4 then there are guides on here to help you do it, first of all though before you can install a unbranded firmware, I think you gonna need to have to unlock it first before you can do anything else.
yea thats fine i know how to do all of that
i just would like to know which firmware i need for the UK simfree i9505 version just so i know im flashing the right 1
can anyone guide me to the right 1.
theres so many im confused
This one

I Have my knox flag at 0x1. Afraid to update to Kitkat...

Hi there
Well I've done something a bit stupid to begin with, my fault.
I had the opportunity to buy my device for about half the price they normally sell it where I live.
Was at a work-related trip to Singapore and an "experienced" friend took me to this place where they sold phones for the cheapest prices.
We were in a hurry and it was the only opportunity - either buy it there or not at all.
About 2 weeks later back at home I discovered that there was such a thing as a Knox Warranty Void Flag and that I have in fact
bought a phone with it set to 1.
So anyway the I am unable to update the firmware over-the-air.
Kies does offer me to upgrade to firmware version PDA:NC2 / PHONE:NC2 / CSC:NB1 (ETL)
but then it displays various warnings with the first one being "Devices that have been rooted or modified ... may experience a failure during the upgrade process"
I have no clue what they did to the device before I bought it.
So I'm a bit afraid to go trough with the update...
Can anyone here offer some advice?
Is there any way to know what exactly was done to the phone and then see if the phone can be updated without bricking it?
Thanks in advance!

Just update with Odin get kk from www.sammobile.com and flash all will be fine
Thanks guys!
Regarding the price:
I bought it for for 760 Singapore Dollars which is about 595 USD.
At the time the official Samsung price where I live was about 1120 USD.
OK so now I have another question... My Note's model is SM-N9005
They don't sell this version here (Israel)... So I suppose that's why I cannot select "Israel" from the Firmware Database web page
Should I select a different country and if yes which one?
I've installed some app called Phone Info and this is what it reports:
CSC INFO
---------------
Product Code: SM-N9005ZWEETL
Sales Code aka Region Code: ETL
CSC Country: Czech Republic
CSC Country ISO: CZ
I have an option that reads: Czech Republic ETL
maybe I should select that?

You can select one from a country nearby like the UAE or Saudi Arabia etc.
The closer the better for reception etc.

[Q] G901F - future non-branded ROMS via OTA possible?

I would have posted this under the S5 'T-Mobile' section, but I think it might be more of a generic discussion.
I am considering in purchasing the S5 Plus (G901F). From what I can see right now, this is only available in Germany, UK and just about now, Netherlands. Problem is that it's exclusive to respective providers and therefore - "branded"
I can find it cheaper from Germany - which is subject to T-Mobile / Telekom (same thing?) branding.
I have asked the shop and they confirmed that the phone is factory unlocked to any provider/country and that there is no "hardware branding" on the phone. Meaning no stickers, no logos or anything else physically on the phone.
However, there is "software branding". Meaning the firmware itself and whatever bloatware the provider has put inside that ROM.
Now, I have read that I can use ODIN and find the least crapware-loaded ROM (from any country) and flash it *without* compromissing the knox bit. So far so good.
What I would like to know is that: What happens when finally Samsung releases a pure, non-branded ROM for the G901F? I can still use ODIN to flash - no problem. But what about future releases. I mean future non-branded firmwares. Would I be able to use OTA from that point on, or would I have to keep an eye and update via ODIN? Can someone please elaborate and explain this?
I get it - that's a 'newbie' type of question, but I would be really grateful towards some help here. All I can do for someone who will spend 2mins for writing a useful/accurate answer is say 'thanks'
Didn't find an exact answer to what I ask here, hence me writing this. Hope it's not a double-post!

Hi jstoner,
I think that while using an unbranded ROM would probably prevent you from receiving OTA's from your provider you would still be left wih the Samsung tool for getting new updates - Kies.
It has the options to check for updates and to flash them.
The geeky option is indeed to keep your eyes out for updates and fire up Odin
Disclaimer: I never used Kies to update my phone so I might be wrong here
Sent from my Android powered Tricorder
I forgot to mention - I live in Greece (but I m thinking of buying the phone from Germany, as it's not available here yet)
Does KIES list all ROMs from ALL regions/providers for a particular phone?

Nobody knows man. But you can always flash the newest updates via odin without triggering knox. After a few month only German Vodafone is building an update. T- mobil stii stuck on h5 firmware. So if there will be an unbranded oce ever ever ever.........you have odin
Wonder if that Greek ROM is unbranded or not
As for hardware branding, it seems that all G901F units sold in Germany under Telekom/T-Mobile have that "LTE+" at the back (also on the retail box). Instead, those EE (UK) units seem to have no hardware branding at all - it just has the "Samsung" logo at the back cover (and nothing on the retail box)

There are a few Providerapps inside. All Roms i tested for 901F has the normal Samsung Bootloaderscreener. No Provider startup. So nothing to worry about . Mine has also the LTE+ logo, but former T-Mobile Devices have also Coverbrands on it...Thanks God these not

Cannot Find Stock Rom For Device

Hey, everyone. I recently bought a contract for a Samsung Galaxy S4, and decided to root it. I have done this in the past with another phone and was successful. Anyway, it went badly and my device got bricked I think, sorry if I'm using the wrong term but it wouldn't boot properly, so my only option was to flash a custom ROM to get it working. I know this whole thing is really stupid on my part, and I've learned my lesson, however I've spent hours looking for the stock ROM of my device and cannot find it. If anybody knows any websites that supply EE roms, or if you have any, please let me know as I've looked everywhere for it.
I know you're meant to include as much information on your smartphone as possible, but I only have the Baseband version of my stock ROM and my physical device info.
Device: GT-19505
Baseband: I9505XXUHOE3
Network: EE
Region: UK
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. It means a lot.
Go to sammobile.com/firmwares/.
Enter the model number (GT-I9505) and press the magnifying glass icon.
On the page that appears, in the "Select country" dropdown, select "United Kingdom (EE) (EVR)".
Profit.
