Hi all,
I have an app on apple AppStore, CodeNavigator.
It's a developer tool, which can read code, and has many features, git, indexing....
I know there should be many developers in the US and western countries, but why my app only sales well in China?
Can anyone give me advice to promote my app on US and Europe?
Thanks.

I've compiled a set of tips on my blog for your reference!
http://thedoplgangr.wordpress.com/2014/09/08/promoting-your-android-app-really-that-easy/
I think, one way to promote your app is to create facebook page for it and then inside app create link to this facebook page. In this case if you have some users from US, they will probably like page of your app on facebook, their friends (who are likely to be from US too) will see it and will know about your app!

We found your app on AppStore. It has awful English in its description. You even misspelled Ruby as "Rubby". We think it's the reason nobody takes your app seriously.
Also your app is only for iPhone. Every developer in US and EU has iPad, so it makes no sense to navigate over the code on iPhone. Make iPad version (or universal app).
Also we can help you to promote your app by sending its announcement to editors of app review sites all over the world (we have contacts of 940+ editors of sites that review iOS apps). See our site for more details (google for iSpreadnews). BTW we can promote Android apps too.

I'm interested in your services. Can you share some success stories of other apps you've promoted?
you can hire for any country or can get free promotions too
As my experience and im working since last 5 years for android and iTune applications.
once my app get ready there after use or hire these two web sites
1. primebuffet [dot] ( com )
2. 4xn [dot] ( org )
these both websites are best for my experience, from 1st web provide facilities of free promotions of android and ios applications
its work like app exchange. that mean you need to install app of other users and they will install your apps. further if you don't want to spent your time then you just can buy coins from from them and same can be use for promotions of your any plat form applications
the link given of second web , whom you can hire for promotions direct for any country or for all over world
realy i love it
thanks

thank you for the info
After you fix the ASO in your description, it probably to make sense to reach out to the 100s of developer blogs (depending on what languages your app covers) for a feature or guest post. There are so many blogs/sites out there specifically with a developer audience (and very few apps about development) that getting in touch will be much easier than if you had a gaming app.

Wt's that:S
The most logical thing to do to promote your app is to try to get visibility on the market by having an attractive description and good screenshots.
After that, try to get your app featured on one of the bigger Android blogs, or post it to a forum like XDA to get some initial user feedback.
If you want to spend money to boost your app, you could try advertising on networks like http://www.admob.com with a link directly to the market. Alternatively there are services that let you promote apps where you only pay for actual installs of your app on users' phones.
(Disclaimer: I'm developer of AppBrain, and we also offer a cost-per-install app promotion system: http://www.appbrain.com/info/advertise )
Good luck with your app!
The cheating way? bad... bad....
If your app is high quality and people will want it, who cares how you get it noticed...I'd just want to get it noticed, no matter the method.
There are definitely a lot of blogs out there that are willing to review apps. These blogs need the hits and you need the downloads. It is win win. Submit them to the blogs.
Yeah, submit to blogs and review sites and cross your fingers!

I recommend to establish your own developer's site which will describe your app. And then make SEO, show people what your application does and offer to redirect Android Market: path to app.

Make an account in Admob by google. And read this monetization in developer.android
Forums
Posting on forums or other websites that allow it.
Today in this competitive world whether you have an iPad app...., Android app or any Mobile app you need to advertise to make people know about your app. very important factor for advertising your app is effectively determining where and how to advertise your app.effective app advertising requires mainly 4 key areas....
Brand
Buzz
Balanced opportunity
Social Media support
I have the same problem.
2 weeks ago I published an Android app but very few people tried it.
The market is full of apps so it's hard to acquire visibility.
So I'm looking for websites to advertise it.
admob sucks
I have like 40,000 plus downloads on admob. got like 9 dollars. U don't need to advertise. Just pick a name. They will find it. The market is large
Posting on forums, when allowed
Contacting websites and suggesting the app for review
Using admob for monetization
We tried admob too, no luck there. Posting on forums (where allowed), trying to make a good icon and description and looots of luck
we tried getting some reviews done too, but didn't see any rise in downloads. Also we got into a printed medium too, which didn't seem to have much impact either.
posting it on social network like google+,fb+twitter+forum is way better than admob
Yes idlike to know this

One major problem, (for example with google play) is that they dont actually give a chance
for new developers to promote their applications
Our apps hide under a pile of dozen of others.
One sulution
A random application could be featured on the main entry page every hour.
This will balance the major companies promoting their stuff. And if the app is good, it wil get
the hype to climb up
Unfortunately we dont see that comming soon.

a) Half of the apps in google play are NOT crap. Have you seen them promoted ?
I can point to some excelent apps (better than the well known competition) with
so little downloads that looks suspicius
b) Even imdb has a heuristics system to remove biased/suspicius rankings, so surely
google can do that. A crap-free promoting system can be created
But it seems that
1. Either major companies want to clear out small competition on google play
or
2. Or... some developers created a good highly-downloaded app and had their
idea stollen from somebody else who created a better one, and want
to push new competition out of the way
Either way...

Of course, there are many good apps. I even think that this is the majority.
And I've seen those great small apps, too. (But most of them got lots of downloads within a few months. It took some time but if the app is good and unique, you will get your downloads. )

I think that it is Google that doesn't want to promote the small apps.
If they did it randomly, most apps (not all!!!) would get less downloads than the bigger ones.
If they selected the small apps by hand, it would be very expensive and they wouldn't know where to start.
If they choose the big ones with many downloads (like now), they can be sure that they will get many downloads. And with downloads comes money.
I don't think it's fair, but I can't think of a better and still efficient method to select the small apps which generates as much income as the system does now.

well, i dont think ist good to use ads in an app anyway. better use "donations" or "Pro" Versions since ads will make your Reviews and Ratings worst.

A combination of approaches work best. Having a facebook presence helps. Some of the very successful apps integrate with facebook very well. Some games tend to grant more time/lives if you share or like on facebook (Candy Crush, for example).
Depending on the app, limited-time trial versions are quite effective.
Agree that plain ads can be problematic as they can lead to poor reviews.. that in turn can hit your G. Play ranking and lead to fewer downloads.
Hi guys! Interesting discussion. Actually there are number of general ways to monetize an app:
Paid applications. You create an app that will charge a certain amount from the beginning.
Freemium. A software product can be downloaded free (so-called 'lite' version), while its extended, 'premium' features and services are offered for a payment.
Subscription (paid access). This monetization model originates from real magazines and newspapers, and is also very widespread.
In-app purchases.
Ad banners, texts, videos - this monetization model is constantly growing, encompassing the market of free applications.
User base. When the free software you own finally becomes popular, wins an audience, it can also be used for further monetization.

Actually we develop mobile apps for our clients, so it's monetization is their decision.
One of the most widespread one is freemium, but like other models it has its limitations.

Hi,
The most popular way to monetize in mobile is by using Ads and put a price in your apps, though, the app has to be really good to get success.

How To Make Money With Mobile Apps
Here is a post dedicated to making money from mobile apps:
http://www.techibiz.com/2/post/2013/05/making-money-from-mobile-apps.html
Akshat Goel
In-app purchase is one of the best ways to make money, but it is important to first figure out if the app is actually worthy of a buy.
I was able to learn a lot about how to make money off my application by attending the Funding, Discovery, and Monetization conference hosted by The AppShow and CONNECT in San Diego, Ca. They taught me a lot of important ways to help make sure my application generates profit. I found the most difficult part of creating and monetizing an app was finding investors; this is why I'm attending The AppShow in San Diego, CA in early January to meet face-to-face with well-known investors and help get my application monetized, i'm so excited! I'm sure this show can help any app developer!
We use free apps with In-App purchases. We dont use mobile ads anymore.
I just started with admob banner ads, in near future I will consider some different advertisement companies, though I keep in mind that making ad intrusive app will not help in promotion, which leads to less downloads, and as a obvious result, small or even lack of income (...)
it depends...

It depends on the nature of your app, if you app is used only one or twice then ads make no sense, if the app is used a couple of times each day, then ads makes perfect sense. Another parameter would be session duration, if your app has a very short session duration (say it shows the temprature and no more), then again ads makes less sense.
I wonder what is a good rule on when to use in-app payments Vs publishing a Pro version as a separate app.
I only tried paid apps, generate fine income.
Have thought about ads, but found it too annoying, just can't bare it.
I'm thinking about some new paying mechanism for my new app.
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Monetization of apps depend a lot on the user experience and the UI design of a mobile app. A lot of times, developers ignore these aspects and produce design elements on a hunch.
A good way to get around this problem is to use A/B testing on your mobile app. You can do it yourself or you can use a third-party platform. One of the better platforms I know of is appiterate.com

This.
Depending on the nature of the app you might have a conflict of interest. Last month I published an app that helps people manage their repetitive tasks. The whole app is based on a simple interface - I want my users to spend the least possible time entering and managing their tasks to make the experience more enjoyable, but at the same time I want people to see ads and click on them; hence the conflict.
I'm currently thinking what kind of 'premium' features I can add to get rid of the ads.
Here's an example of how monetization is improved:

I am a new android developer but the thing is I used to live in China for 2 years. One of the cool thing I learned about the Chinese is that they click on ads a lot. So I decided to translated my app and distribute them in various app stores in China. It has worked well for me. It seems for China you need to get ad from local ad aggregators. They pay better than Admob.
The service I am familiar with that does that are.
