[Q] T-Mobile LG G2 on AT&T - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey I was wondering if I unlocked my LG G2 from T-Mobile would I be able to use it on AT&T's network? I would like to still get 4G LTE but I'm not sure thats possible. I asked a AT&T representative and they said that I would get AT&T's 4G LTE after registering my IMEI and with the correct APN settings. Can anyone confirm this? Thank you very much for any responses.

I used an AT&T SIM and the Go Phone $60 plan on my unlocked D801 for trip to Alaska in May and got LTE in many places. Use "phone" as the APN.

Oh okay thanks. For some reason I heard that a lot of people didn't get good data speeds or something like that. Maybe those people didn't fix the APN or the IMEI

Bump?

Tmobile Version has AT&T LTE support, and unlocked bootloader?

So far it looks like the Tmobile S4 has LTE/HSPA+ support for AT&T, and no real signs of a locked bootloader. Anyone else plan on buying that version and unlocking it if the bootloader is in fact unlocked?
Does anyone know of any apps that would test the LTE/HSPA+ bands the phone is capable of? I want to go into a Tmobile and use a test unit to see if I can get service with my LTE AT&T SIM.
https://explore.t-mobile.com/samsung-galaxy-s4
Edit: Well, it looks like I'll be getting the Tmobile variant unsubsidized and use it on AT&T. Tmobile will unlock the phone if you pay the total cost up front. I just need to find a replacement back cover to rid myself of the stupid Tmobile logo on the back... lol.

If I had the money to buy the S4 outright for full price, I would just get an i9505.
EDIT: Spoke too soon. The i9505 doesn't support AT&T's LTE bands.
Can you post info on the source? I was also curious about this but i was thinking if we changed the radios like they did in the past that maybe we could get something working?

I put the info in the OP that I have so far; the LTE/3G radios are reported to support all of AT&T's bands. The bootloader, I'm going off of a guess since I don't think that Tmobile could afford to bribe Samsung to lock their bootloaders for them.
HMM, ok thanks for the info so far. I might have to go out and pick one up and test it.
Looks like the T-Mobile version has all the same bands and some extra ones added in. For instance the at&t only has lte bands 4&17. The tmobile version has LTE bands 1,2,4,5,7&17. Will T-Mobile unlock their phones for u??

I'm feeling like a newbie today cause I have my new T-Mobile Galaxy S4 in front of me & still playing with new features after 3 hours.
Tell me how to check to see if bootloader is unlocked and I'll do it.
Also trying to remember where we go to unlock the developer tools. Only remember that it must be clicked 7 times?
Just remembered, Settings.About Device>Build Number <Click Build Number 7 times, back out and Developer options magically appears.
Now i can go into it and toggle USB debugging. Now I only feel 95% newbie.

Has anybody tried their T-Mobile phone on AT&T yet?
If so, I have a couple of questions.
1. Can you use the T-Mobile phone to wireless tether (become a wifi hotspot) on AT&T's network? The AT&T version can be used to tether (with a simple hack). I was just wondering if a different .APK would be needed to do the same with the T-Mobile phone on AT&T's network or if the T-Mobile phone already has an APK installed that works on AT&T's network?
2. I realize an existing AT&T sim card can just simply be placed into the sim unlocked T-Mobile phone for it to work, but how would I go about changing the imei and other phone info that AT&T has in their system about the phone? In other words, would AT&T cause problems with anyone using a T-Mobile phone on their network even if the person paid full price for the phone and it is unlocked? Would it be better to have them change the system information at a store versus over the telephone?
3. It is reported that the T-Mobile phone works fine on AT&T's LTE network, has anyone verified this and does the phone show LTE when on AT&T's LTE network?
Thank you for any replies. Hopefully this information can help people decide if they want to buy the T-Mobile S4 to use on AT&T or not.

You can, for now, use PDAnet for tethering.
As far as changing the phone to appear as "unknown" to AT&T's system, don't do it without a backup of your /efs folder. I don't recommend doing it either because it's not really worth changing things around to hide that you're on a Tmobile phone, because for the most part, they don't care as long as you're paying them your monthly bill. I personally know a friend who has used her unlocked HTC Amaze on AT&T without issue (she was stuck to 2G speeds). The only way for you to have an "unknown" phone on your account is to use an international model phone such as the HTC one or the i9500 (unconfirmed that the i9300/i9500 model is entered into AT&T's system, I only hèard a rumour that AT&T has the IMEI of those phones in its system). My i9100 currently shows up as "unknown" in my bill statement.
I took a screenshot, but I don't have a link of the LTE working conformation (attached). I won't be getting my phone until I am on holiday in New Hampshire so that I can avoid the sales tax on purchasing the Tmobile variant. I would ask my parents to buy it for me, and I send them the money, but they have no technological skills whatsoëver close to asking/knowing what to ask for at the Tmobile store. Sorry guys, lol.

[Q] Putting D801(tmous) variant on ATT?

So I was looking over the difference between D800 (ATT) and D801 (TMOUS) and it seems that the reception difference is D800 has an LTE band 5 and the D801 has an 3G band of 1700. Whats the practical difference in reception? Seems like att is starting to grow band 5, and 1700 is tmobile. I travel to some remote areas and I think tmobile works there and att struggles (not sure at least it did 2 years ago), but do like the idea of freely switching between the two without having a tradeoff. will probably start with straight talk for att but will switch to the tmous if i cant get service where i move.
Please share thoughts on the best strategy...
thank you

From my own, uninformed research I think we will be fine taking the T-mobile LG G2 (d801) to AT&T.
Looking at the information below taken from Phone Arena, the LTE band 5 isn't in all AT&T LTE phones

Going off of this research I've ordered the D801 but It is possible I can turn out to be wrong.
This explains it more

I'm currently using the Tmobile version on ATT and haven't had any issues so far. The only problem I'm having is it appears there is substantially less support for the Tmobile version.

The D801 CM maintainer was out of county apparently and I'm guessing he held off on uploading everything since he's been gone for a couple weeks and didn't want to push something that would be broken for weeks by chance. We'll start seeing a good bit of roms in the coming weeks and by everything moving to KitKat we'll be in as good of shape as any other device since our devices are plenty similar to each other.
LG G2 d801 (t-mobile) with AT&T straight talk activation help...
I just tried to activate my factory unlocked lg g2 d801 with straight talk with at&t. I set my APN up for the at&t network and used the at&t sim card that came with the straight talk bundle. Now on the lock screen it says invalid SIM card.
What do I have to do to make my phone work? Thanks in advance!
I borked phone flashing a T Mobile based ROM on my canadian G2 (since they both are the D801; by personal research I've observed the D803 works as intended on my canadian D801). I will try later today to flash yet again another T Mo rom on it, but this time I'll flash back the stock kernel. I'll report back.
Just to play it safe, I'd reflash your stock kernel... that way it won't act funny all of a sudden along the way.

Thanks, but I haven't rooted my phone and don't really intend to unless I absolutely need to. It's factory unlocked right out of the box.
It turns out Verizon was holding things up. I'm so happy I'm leaving them.

LTE on AT&T with D801?
I can't seem to find a clear answer on whether it's possible to get LTE indication and speed on a D801 (TMo) used on AT&T.
Tech Support is giving me the "we can't guarantee data speeds on non-AT&T-branded phones".
This thread seems to say a TMo-branded phone (LG G2 in my case) CAN be provisioned for LTE:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2506590
Most other threads say no, or there's no conclusion in the thread.
Can anyone give me the straight answer and tell me how to go about it? A way to get past the stone-walling AT&T techs?
I have H2O which uses AT&T's network but only HSPA+ and not LTE but the phone sees AT&T's LTE network when searching for networks.
In this thread there is a screenshot of a T-Mobile phone getting LTE indication on the AT&T network.

Along with a lot of confusion about why his phone was working on LTE. As a relative newb to this stuff I couldn't make any sense of it.
Also in that thread was this comment:
T-Mobile devices support ALL AT&T and T-Mobile bands, except LTE Band 5 (used by AT&T in a few rural areas). What's wrong is AT&T turns off LTE for non-AT&T devices. You have to call them up and give them the IMEI # of an AT&T-branded device (even if it's not yours and even if your SIM isn't in it/you don't plan on using it). They don't check after that.

900a vs 900t questions straightalk

I have straight talk... curious major differences between AT&T vs T-Mobile
also if I went with T-Mobile on straight talk how would I use it on AT&T and would 4G LTE ect or how would it go?
I know I would need to have both AT&T and T-Mobile APN's to switch around on?
Simply put if I got a T-Mobile I can still run all bands on AT&T straight talk but benifit switching APN from AT&T to T-Mobile as well?
Thanks

Since this was never answered, let me try to help you. A T-Mobile S5 runs just fine on AT&T as long as it's SIM Unlocked. I use a 900T on AT&T (for customization purposes) with no issues. All you need to do is add in an APN for AT&T, which can be found with a Google search. With Straight Talk, I'd imagine you'd need to use their AT&T compatible APN. Since you're discussing service through them, I doubt your Straight Talk SIM would register with T-Mobile or AT&T APN's. However, I could be wrong. I've never used an MVNO and I'm not quite sure how a sub-network SIM card would act on a parent network.

AT&T lg g2 using tmobile sim, No 4g/LTE

Hey, I've used xda plenty in the past before but never had to post a question so bear with me.
I bought a att lg g2 and a tmobile sim to go with it. I can only get 3g, no lte. Its very slow. I did some reading and it looks discouraging. I live in south texas.
Is there anyway to turn on the radio bands i need to make 4g/lte work? I saw a thread about how to turn on lte for custom roms. Will that work or not? I think tmobile uses bands 17 19 and 21. There are those bands in the hidden menu on my phone but idk. It looks like some att lg g2s work with tmobile lte and others do not. Thanks for your help.
Ps. Im on another forum where the attitude towards noobs is like xda's so take it easy on me lol.

Yes, its rooted and unlocked for different carriers. Su is installed but not a custom recovery. Im not really interested in installing a custom rom at this point.
From the carrier pages:
AT&T LG G2 has bands 1,2,4,5 & 17
T-Mobile LG G2 has: 2,4,7 & 17
7 is 2600MHz so it's not relevant for the US
I would say it's not a phone capability problem
The T-Mobile LG G2 has a seting in networks for network mode: GSM, WCDMA, GSM+WCDMA, GSM+WCDMA+LTE
The same can be achieved with the Phone Info app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=myc.phone.PhoneInfo
Also make sure you are using the fast.t-mobile.com APN http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-2090
That apn you linked above does not work on my phone. I talked to a tmobile rep this morning and thats the one he gave me. When that one didnt work i got referred up the line to a rep that sent me texts with setting patches that supposedly set my phone up like a tmobile one but i didnt get 4g/lte from that and it wasnt the lte apn. I did, however, find another fast.tmobile.com apn with a little bit different settings than the one linked above that gave me 3g. Im at a loss, I guess.
LTE works fine on this phone, I use a D800 on T-Mobile, you just need the LTE APN. That's what I use on mine.

Im using the apn from this link and no 4g. Just edge. Its a lte apn tutorial. I know i have tmobile lte in my area. Thanks for the help so far tho.

[Q] Will my Unlocked Sprint S4 work with a Verizon prepaid SIM?

I have been doing research and searching these forums for a few days now, I'm trying to not be one of those people who ask questions that have been answered. But at this point I'm at the end of the road.
I bought a Sprint Galaxy S4, model SPH-L720.
I unlocked it using this method Sprint Galaxy S IV SPH-L720 SIM Unlock Method
Reverted back to MDC baseband and all that good stuff, just as instructed. It seemed to have went well without a hitch.
My question now is:
I want to buy one of these Verizon 4G Sim Activation Kits from walmart
Is it possible that I can buy one of those, insert the SIM into my unlocked Sprint S4, and have a working phone? I ask because I don't want to drop $50 if it doesn't have a chance of working. The instructions for this say that it will work with a VERIZON S4, but since my SPRINT S4 is unlocked, should that be okay?
I don't know much, but in my reading I found that Sprint and Verizon both use CDMA, not GSM. So I figured I had a better chance of this phone working if I go with Verizon because of this.
I am in the United States.
If you need any other information or screen shots please let me know, thank you for taking the time to help me out!!
EDIT: would it be possible to test it out, if one of my friends has a verizon phone under contract, and I took their SIM and inserted it into my phone?
Try it.
Like the guy above me said. Try it. One way to find out. Personally I don't think it would work. As the whole point of unlocking the sprint Gs4 is to use it on GSM networks. From what I know you have to flash the sprint phone to Verizon. Plus you WONT get LTE on Verizon because the bands are not supported. So you'll only get 3g.

thank you for the info! i'm just learning about all of this, so i don't have a firm grip on everything yet.
in the tutorial i used and linked above, the file I used with Odin was actually titled "S4 Flasher", so I believe I unlocked it and flashed it with this? Again, Im sorry, Ive tried searching and am just looking for verification if Im correct.
I'm not worried about LTE, 3G is fine really. Also, I'm not set on Verizon, I just want my phone to work, doesn't matter what network I'm using. If it would be "safer" or a better bet to get into a GSM prepaid, I will do that instead. I was just under the assumption (incorrectly probably lol) that since sprint is CDMA, that going to another CDMA carrier would be easier.
Cricket, Net10, StraightTalk, and AT&T etc are all available at the store I think if I go GSM
Again thanks for taking the time to help everyone!

I unlocked my sprint GS4 and went to Cricket. And I've been happier than when i was with Sprint (service wise). I have signal in 98% of the places I go to. Which is a HUGE improvement over sprint. And even though this phone only connects to HSPA+ which is capped at 3.5 Mbps its plenty fast for all my daily activities. So I recommend a GSM prepaid.
