[Q] Most recent lag - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Got a little problem which quite annoys me.
Opening 'Recent Apps' with the physical button takes too long. If I use for example the nova homescreen shortcut it opens instant, but if I open it at the same moment with the physical button it takes about half a second to show.
I prevents me from having the nice multitask experience which the hardware is definitely capable of. Is there someone who got a fix? I already tried disabling all animations.

Task switcher compatible with SGS button layout?

I'm looking for a task switcher that shows all running apps (and not like the default android one which only shows the 6 most recent). The ones I've come across seem to require a long press of the search button to activate, but the SGS lacks a dedicated search button.
Does anyone know of one that uses another shortcut, long press home / double tap home for example?
This is exactly what I'm looking for, but I've been searching through in market place for something that let's me assign program to hardware key action. No luck so far. Any experienced folks know if it's possible to customize the phone this way?
I have used taskswitcher and prehome..both function pretty much the same way...tap home button once shows all running apps and hitting it once more from the app switch screen takes you to the home screen. I kinda prefer prehome as it seems to use less memory but then again theres really not much of a difference imo..hope this helped..

Great recommendation. Will try it out. Thank you very much for sharing is.
Lovely. Pressing home will show the truly still running task instead of recently used ones. It's lets you kill or switch to any active program.
So, long press home to show last 6 most recently used programs
single press home will invoke the task manager, allowing killing and switching.
Double press home to really go to home.
Sounds like what I want. Seems a little buggy, but I'm happy with it at least for now.

Multi-tasking interface improvement

I was just reading about webOS and how good its interface is when dealing with multi-tasking and I realised how poor androids multi-tasking interface is. The only way I know to switch between running apps is to hold home button for a few seconds...
I personally think this can be improved by having thumbnails of open apps popup when the home button is single pressed on a home screen. Just as at the moment previews of all the home screens popup I think this should be switched with open app previews. I rarely ever use the home screen preview thing so i think its wasted, but I definitely would use app selector if little thumbnails showed.
Anybody have any thoughts on this? Im not a developer so I have no idea if this is possible but I think it would be a good feature to add and improve android. Do any devs think they can implement this??
Moved to general as not ROM development.
This would be a feature for a launcher app, so might be worth suggesting to someone like Fede who develops Launcher Pro, or cyanogenmod people that make ADW?
yes you are right. thanks. I was too lazy to find the relevant section to post under. will try contacting anderweb. or fede.
There are a couple of apps which overlays a screen on top of the current app you are in by tapping home twice, you can then open apps/access widgets without having to go back to homescreen first.
Currently im using 'smart taskbar', you can set the activation mode to be (1) tapping on a half-circle spot on either side of your screen or (2) swiping from one side to another. You can then open from a list of 5 'pinned' apps or choose from the mini apps drawer below, or click a tab called 'running' which seems the same as the current holding on home button behavior.
check out power strip. allows you to get a popup window where ever you are by doubble tapping home button (ore long press search button). there you can have quick access to widgets, shortcuts etc. really cool.

just downloaded both power strip and the one mentioned above. Will try them both out and report back on whether its what i was suggesting. Thanks for your suggestions.

[Q] Home Button Responsiveness

Is anyone having issues with the home button? I will tap the home button to go to the home screen, but instead, it will take me to the recent apps menu about half the time. This is getting really annoying, and I'd like to get it fixed.
Does anyone else have this issue/know how to fix it? Is this a software or hardware issue?

Sounds like a mix of software / user issue to me.
I was doing the same thing so try this and see if it feels better.

With default settings a quick tap will bring you home after about 1.5 seconds
holding it brings up your recent apps, it sounds like you're holding it for the 1.5 seconds as you're expecting a delay for it to go to the home screen and its causing it to open up recent apps.
To remove this 1.5 second delay double tap home quickly and open up S-Voice, when S-Voice opens hit your menu button and turn off the double tap home to open, then close the app.
Now when you hit home there will be no delay as the system doesn't pause to wait for a second tap to open up s-voice and it just goes home. it also means you won't feel the need to hold it until it goes home inadvertently causing you to open up multitasking instead.

Minor lag on "recent apps"

Really strange since i'm on clougyg2 and have only 2 home screens with 2 widgets total. There is a small but definitely noticeable lag/stutter when pressing the recent app button. It is more apparent if you notice the way the blue light on each navigation bar's button behaves: "back" and "home" light up evenly but the 3rd button stutters and the recent applicationscreen takes some time to be displayed
Has anyone noticed anything similar?

i noticed the same thing, (running CloudyG3 2.2). Not sure why theres lag, it's the only time i ever really notice any stuttering in the phone.

Nav bar lag?

Is anybody else seeing nav bar lag after about a day's worth of uptime? After rebooting, all nav actions work as intended. After a bit of uptime, I start getting really bad lag on all nav items. I'll tap the back button, then a second later I'll get the visual indicator of the tap, followed shortly by a vibrate and then finally the system animation.
Snapdragon GS8+
Yeah I feel it too, for example when I use the touchwiz launcher and open bixby, then tap the home button it takes about 0.5 seconds to actually see or feel anything. It feels sluggish.
this happen also since oreo arrived
