Hi everyone,
We just published a new version of ringtext messenger
LINK: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=lk.ringtext
We are currently looking for users who can test and give us feedback regarding marketing and distribution. All help and feedback greatly appreciated!
How does ringtext work?
ringtext uses underlying "missed calls" technology to send and receive messages. Unlike similar apps (Whatsapp, WeChat, Viber and Line) you don't need WIFI or 3G, 4G mobile internet to exchange messages. Instead ringtext does a "Missed Call" to a regular (mobile) phone, to deliver your message. Missed calls are Worldwide totally free of all charges!

}
FEATURES:
- small size app (1.25MB) and register (email address for password recovery) within 10 seconds
- Always exchange text messages (doesn't matter anymore if your online or offline)
- 100% free, no charge, direct or hidden, to download or use this App, no pop-up ads
- if using underlying "missed calls" no data-plan needed, and no provider (call, setup or connection) costs!
- benefits are huge for kids without mobile data, backpackers out of data coverage, as well as international business travellers seeking to avoid roaming costs
Example using ringtext
John starts to call Rohan and quickly disconnects the call just after hearing the first ring tone to avoid (setup or call) costs. Rohan will notice this as a "missed call" from John, but understands his "free message". This is commonly used by millions of people as a way of communicating pre-agreed messages for free, because a missed call (unanswered call) is totally free of charges. In ringtext we use this missed call technique and made it look as visible messages. You get 100 customisable messages specific for offline use and exchange these messages all over the world with a 100% free missed call. When ringtext users reply, receivers get the message in the same conversation screen.
Why is ringtext free?
We think that If Your App Isn't Free, Another One Will Be. We developed ringtext messenger for testing our offline exchange technique in other industries, and could make some money there. The missed Call technology is old, but not old fashioned we learn everyday from using it. There are lots of applications and our test-users liked it very much and asked us to make ringtext publicly available for daily use. We accepted the challenge, made a cool blue interface, and here it is. There is no charge, direct or hidden, to download or use this App. The ringtext messenger App does not install any spy-ware or ad-ware along with it. It does not populate user's screen with pop-up ads. We know the App’s benefits are huge for many audiences, including kids without mobile data, backpackers out of data coverage, as well as international business travellers seeking to avoid roaming costs
Again, looking for your comments, questions, tips and contribution for the ringtext translation in your language. Let's make ringtext available to everyone in the world!
Thanks, igo

Is there any way to send a contact (Business Card) to another mobile by txt message or bluetooth as there is on other phones?
Sure you can. Open the Contacts application, tap & hold the contact you want to beam and select the 'Beam Contact" option. Alternatively you can use the Tools -> Beam Contact menu.
So, can I send contact (s) via bluetooth?
I understand that you tell us about a irda beaming. it works of couse.
ps. sorry for bad english.
Yes, can you please reply if you know how to send them by txt or bluetooth. Beaming by infra red is covered in the user manual.
I think that is no way to send contacts via bluetooth on Magician, becouse i can do it on my HP2210 just via OBEX exchange (files, contacts), but Magician have no this system
(means OBEX)
Thanks for microsoft for the best bluetooth drivers, that we have on our Magician devices
I also don´t think you can because there is no bluetooth feature in contacts, only beam.
Björn
we need ObjectPush service on Magician to send contacts via bluetooth.
this servise provides possibilities to connect different platformed devices such as SE K700i and HP2210.
this devices successfully negotiating with each other.
i have send a one and a group of contacts.
Beaming contacts with bluetooth
Hi,
Beaming contacts with bluetooth is possible also with Magicians! Just select the contact you want to send, tap it until the menu opens and then select "beam contact".
After that, your magician will search for other devices - ir-devices first, then (presuming you turned on bluetooth before and the desired device is visible) bluetooth devices. This is rather slow, so don't be impatient...
After a few seconds the name of the other devices around you will be shown and you just have to tap the name to send the contact.
HTH,
BGK
Bluetooth does indeed work. Just done it. Thanks for that
however, what if I want to send someone a Contact to add to her phone when they are somewhere else in the World??
As discussed > > here < < , the old "Nokia" method of SMS'ing the contact to someone won't work. Read the link.
Try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=17343&highlight=vcard
this is the real deal!!!
thats all we need!
Thanks Baldboy and everyone else. Just remember...
...to set your numbers with an International prefix otherwise you'll get an error message.
you means the SMS sending?
it's operatrors dependent option.
some Russian operators uses only international prefix +7
some uses both +7 and 8 (russian long distance prefix)
It is quite easy to do this, as it is with files. The only things you need is to check "Receive all incoming data" and a phone or computer which also provides the OBEX Object Push profile.
Dandie, you talking about receiving, but all we thinking about sending contacts
topic's name is - Sending contact to someone else
not receiving but thanks for your participation
Yeah, but when you want to send a contact, you also need a receiver, don't you? So, if you want to send a contact to another Magician (or similar device) you would have to do what I said, because otherwise you would get an unexpected error. But thank you for the indoctrination ...
To clarify the prefix thing...
I sent a contact to my Nokia (in the UK) and always got the "Not Sent (Wapsend)" error message. I then changed the number I was sending to so it included the +44 prefix for the UK and it worked fine. the Nokia didn't need to be told to receive it. Does anyone know of a program that automatically adds the prefix to your mobile numbers? I used to have a Psion revo and there were a couple of apps that did it but I can't find one for the PPC. If not, no worries, I'll do it as and when (which won't be very often)
Sending Vcard via SMS
Go to Messaging, then make sure you are in your MMS account. Create a new MMS without any template. Then when in composing window, press EDIT. You'll see the option ADD VCARD. Look for the vcard you want to attach. Then choose your recipient. Don't add anything else! Don't add a picture, or audio, or even text. I sent one to my wife and she received it on her Nokia 6820.

One way of sending a contact is with www.mobiluck.com
I recently changed plans and now have to be careful of my sms 300 limit. I have GV and thought I could send and receive text's via my N1,that would not count as sms messages on my TMOUSA account.
How can I do that? I mean...can I do that with out having to go to Google Voice via my browser? Thanks for any advice.
If you have an N1, Google voice is built in. Use the GV app for texting.
Just make sure to either turn off the forwarding to your phone's real phone number, or you don't respond to texts via the normal SMS app (or any of the 3rd party apps like Handcent or ChompSMS). If you respond to a text with anything other than the GV app, it will count as an SMS from your phone.
I tried this for awhile, but the GV App didn't appear to update very that quickly when I got new text messages. But this was a while back (before the N1 was released), so maybe the GV app has gotten better.
Give out your GV number
Use it
???
Profit
Nice! Off-topic, but nice to know that someone else in the area has a Nexus One. I thought I might be the only one.

2. Use the "Voice" app on your phone.
3. Win!
i use the voice app for texts and it works great, i went from under 200 texts a month to 1 or 2, considering dropping the text plan completely. only disadvantage is it does not do picture messaging and some services do not respond to the sms from gvoice as it isnt a proper sms from what ive read, unfortunately i am unable to find the source where i read this. just to comment on jrard44's post, there was an update which made it a push rather than timed so the app has seen a great improvement since you probably used it like you mention
Thank you all for the quick response and knowledge. Very much appreciated.

I am not sure if this has to do with android in general or the specific motoblur rom in use by the Droid PRO. I have photos saved to some people in my phonebook, as most of you do. However, sometimes when I call these people, or they call me, instead of getting their contact picture appear I get this (the default image):

I don't understand what is causing this to happen. Could it have something to do with google voice forwarding?
Update:
I think this one describes it:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/voice/thread?tid=0f0426af87896e06&hl=en
Essentially, incoming phone calls through my GV show the contact photo of the person trying to reach me, as is expected. *That must be because the phone registers the correct phone number upon incoming call and properly associates it with the person's contact photo that I have saved with Google Contacts. *Outgoing calls are automatically routed through GV, and use a different GV assigned phone number, but although after the GV bubble with the routing phone # disappears, and the person's name and real phone number appears, the contact photo remains a blank. *Calling the same person without GV produces the proper contact photo.
So does anyone know a way to make GV properly associate the outgoing calls with the contact photos?
Is the problem with all contacts or is it isolated to a more specific group? I have an atrix, and before a rom upgrade all my contacts worked fine. Since then I've been having issues with facebook contacts pictures but not in all areas. My contacts list works fine, as well as incoming/outgoing calls, but sms and home screen widgets only load a few images. All manually entered pics work, and a select few facebook contacts work as well.
Some questions to isolate the issue - are you using a custom rom, stock, or updated factory rom? Is this a new issue since an upgrade or a recently installed app? And finally, do the pics work in some areas but not others?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I am using the updated rom.
I am quite sure that the problem is with Google Voice's forwarding, and the phone not associating the forwarding number with the contact. In fact, the default dialer application shows the routed number in outgoing calls, which led me to switch to Dialer One, since it would properly display the outgoing calls true phone numbers and not GV's routed ones.
As I've said, when I turn off GV, my phone properly displays the contact photos since it's not using GV's routed numbers.
That narrows it down pretty well. Obviously gv is the problem. Maybe there's an update to gv? I'm not familiar with it but will check into it when I get a chance.

Good afternoon and forgive me if this question has been answered. My ultimate goal is to pay $40/ month for 4 gigs of data w/ no voice/text plan. By configuring Google Voice to work on VoIP, I can call nation wide as well as still send/receive SMS all with my Google Voice number. Once I have my device setup with data only, what do I need to do to achieve this?
Also, my device isn't rooted yet but I plan on doing so and putting the google play s4 rom on it. If that matters..

Its been a while since I've last used Google Voice, but to my knowledge the most recent update uses the cellular network to send text messages. I would imagine this would also effect voice calls.
I've dabbled with voip over cellular, to make it work well, you really need to have lte. Lte will prioritize SIP traffic, making calls clear, hspa+ or anything slower will cause hiccups.
Unless you don't ever plan to leave lte service area, keep your voice plan.

Yes, it can be done. That's my current setup. I don't even have a SIM card on my phone, but use WiFi (Wireless hotspot). I use Google Voice for outgoing and incoming calls and SMS with an app. No root needed.
I'm not sure if posting this info here is against the rules, but since it will answer your question directly, and I am not affiliated with the developer in any way, I thought I'll give you the info. The app is called GrooveIP. I have the paid version, but apparently they released a free version as well, which was not available when I first discovered the app. I'm sure there are other apps for this as well.
The problem with this setup is that you need to have a strong data connection wherever you go for it to work as a voice plan replacement. You can get away with SMS on a relatively slow connection (decent EDGE or GPRS) but you need solid 4G or fast 3G on to get decent voice. At least that has been my experience.
Try it out for yourself. It will depend on where you live / travel / commute, so give it a shot and let us know how it worked for you. Hope this helps.
Thank you so much! Will check it out and post results
Google voice does sms over wifi with no problem. It does not do mms though.

Ended up rooting and installing the Google Play ROM which is my favorite interface and also allows SIP configuring. I'll be using GrooveIP along with Google Voice to turn my device(s) into VoIP. Thanks for all the quick replies!

So what i need to do? By default, this phone trying send sms at +1..... (UK?) but my country is "+3", Ukraine...

Have you tried saving "Your Darling" to your list of contacts without the country code?
Perhaps "My Darling Phone" for one and "My Darling SMS" for the other.
+1 is US and Canada
