I am currently running the latest auto-nootered version, 1.1 I think. I would like to upgrade to the stock version 1.2, but I don't want to lose any purchased content I have on the device. I have never attempted a restore to stock after auto-nooter. I am fine with not being rooted and not having access to the full market at this point, but just want to keep all my content safe from being wiped in the whole process. Any ideas? Thanks in advance
If you're referring to content purchased from B&N, it's a non-issue as you can always redownload for free.
If you're referring to Android Market purchases - if you lose Market access with the update you'll lose the ability to redownload and/or update those apps.
Back up your data, etc to an external SD card and optionally a computer too. Later, restore what needs to be. I stopped running from the internal long ago because CM7 runs so well (now since that wasn't always the case) from my external Sandisk SD 16GB class 4. This way, I never need to root the internal and I get updates as they come while benefiting from it's dual booting nature. Much less hassle this way. Not sure what the advantage is the other way around anymore. The Nookdevs site outlines step by step how to easily go back to stock. That info has probably even been reposted here.
I went the same route as the above guy. I've never Rooted my Stock and have been running Froyo and now CM7 from a 4gb Class 6 SD(It's what I had lying around) and it's worked really well.
Strangly even though I've never rooted I couldn't get it to update and had to Reset my Nook anyway, but since my CM7 is on my SD I didn't have to reinstall anything. All my B&N stuff just synced back after I updated. Although I had to manually tap Download on alot of them.

I am currently running dualboot on emmc. Thinking of going back to stock and moving a backup of cm7 onto SD and running it form there.
Any tutorial to point me on how to take a backup made in clockwork to rnning that on sd?

This is just me thinking on the Fly but if you just make a CWR Backup and then use the "CM7 Size Agnostic SD Image" from the Dev forums, it should flash it to the SD instead but I'm not positive. Won't hurt to try though.

I think you really just need your system and data partitions. Flash it using the previously mentioned dev thread. Then move your EMMC files to the sdcard partition.

I hacked a pair of NC's for my kids for Christmas, running Mirage CM7 (seemed the most stable, but I could be wrong). I was planning on waiting a bit on the micro SD's and just running off of the 1GB internal memory, but I can't access the songs I put there. Every time I try to pull up the music player or MX player or gallery, it tells me "No SD card".
Well, no duh...
My question is, is there a setting that will allow me to access the internal storage until I'm able to get a couple SD's? Or should I upgrade to CM10? Also, the reboot SD for the Nook Tablet has a neat little repartitioning affect, got me another 6 or 7GB when I used it to install CM10 there---does the NC have a similar repartitioning tool?

Yes there is an option to use internal memory. I don't remember the exact menu since I have not used CM7 in a while. But go to settings, cyanogenmod settings, applications, and choose use internal memory. Or something like that. It swaps emmc and sdcard so that apps think internal media is sdcard.

Excellent! Does that mean, though, that I have to swap it back over when I do get the SD cards?
Also, does CM10 on the NC not have to worry about that?

Yes, unless you want to keep it that way. Your new card will show as emmc then.
CM10 has not implemented that yet. And it would have the same problem. Some apps would not run without an SD present.

If you want to run stock OS, but with Gapps etc. etc., read the first post on this thread:

These are pretty easy to follow and should not cause any problems. Just remember, if you're running windows, it might be difficult to view the different folders once you install to SDcard. For that, you will need to setup ADB. It isn't too difficult, but if you run into any trouble, just search the forums, there are plenty of very helpful responses.

No, those are the only two ways for 2.0.6. And that first method does root it.

It's actually very easy once you start doing it . Don't be overwhelmed, take it step by step and you'll be fine. The forums here are full of helpful people and most issues have been sorted out. I managed (using leapinlar's excellent thread) to get it done in a short time.

Thank you very much for the links. I am a total newbie with rooting. Would one of you kindly answer the following questions for me. I have the HD+ w/ 16 GB and 2.0.6 software.
1. What size / class microSD card would you recommend I buy for rooting? Should I have more than one card available?
2. Does the rooted OS get installed to the internal memory, or to the SD card?
2a. If the latter, would it make sense to get a 32 GB card so I could have 16 GB for the Nook stock OS and 32 GB for the rooted OS?
3. When a Nook software update breaks root do I loose all of my data on the rooted OS?

1. I am using the 16GB, Class 4 SandDisk card. Generally speaking, the SanDisk Class 4 ones seem to be the most stable and give the best results (most people on the forum use them). Either 16 or 32 GB should be fine.
2. It depends on which method of 'rooting' you use. If you want to 'root' stock B&N OS, you can just use leapinlar's thread here or if you want to run CM10 off the SD card, use verygreen's CM10 instructions here. I've found the 02/20 file he's posted in the first post on the thread to be extremely useful by the way. It's been stable for the past 24 hours and giving very good performance. If you want to run a 'hybrid' install, with CM10 on the internal memory use leapinlar's thread here.
I would suggest reading each method carefully and deciding which works best for you. I'm going with booting CM10 off the SD card (2nd method) as I don't want to fiddle with stock/internal memory too much and it's been relatively stable and smooth for me. But some people prefer the first method and some like the third. More knowledgeable posters should be able to tell you the 'best' option (if such a thing exists ).
2a. It really depends on how much data/media files/documents you have. I only use mine for reading ebooks/pdfs and have found 16gb SD card+16 Gb internal storage more than enough. BTW, running CM10 off the SD card does not mean you cannot use the internal memory for storage, similarly for the hybrid option.
3. Not to my knowledge, unless you wipe the whole partition. I think the /data and other folders remain intact (I could be wrong though).

1. Feedback says that best card is Sandisk 16GB class 4. I have Kingston 16GB class 4 and its very good too. Seems that class 4 cards are best.
If you want use Hybrid install (Hybrid SD for CM10/10.1 on the HDplus and Stock Dual Boot) then yes, you need two cards. But i think for starting is good run CM10 alone at SD. Later you can grow up.
2. You have available three choices:
- rooted os with availability install third party applications (for installing have good any class 4 sd card 4GB and bigger): HD/HDplus Stock Root and other Mods - via CWM flashable zips
- stock or rooted os and you go run Nook HD+ CM10 development (sdcard) Any 16GB class 4 sd card is good for it

Thank you! I will stick with CM10 on SD for my first go at it. If the speed gets to me, I'll try the hybrid method. Really appreciate the response guys!

Thank you very much! I just ordered a 32 GB Sandisk class 4.
Ok, I am a bit stuck here. I have the 32 GB Sandisk Class 4 SD card. And the steps I have taken
1. Burned sdcard-cwm-early4.img.gz with Win32 Image Burner from the SD card on my laptop. Windows could only see a 118 MB partition, but nothing else.
2. I booted in a Linux Live CD and was able to see the other partitions on the SD card.
3. I copied over the cm-10-20130220-UNOFFICIAL-ovation.zip and GAPPS to the other partitions that were viewable on the live CD
4. Booted into CWM
5. Mounted /SDCARd
6. Went to install ZIP from /sdcard.
The message I received was the "no files were found".
Any help would be much appreciated.

You should be able to see the files that were installed by the .img. If not then the burn did not occur correctly.
Once you can see them place the ROM file in the same folder that you can see in Windows and rename it to the name of the file that is installed by the .img.

By "other partitions that were viewable on the live CD", what did you mean? Was there a very large partition that was fat32 formatted? It should be named CM10SDCARD. Did you find that one?

Hi Leapinlar,
After burning the .img with Win32 IB, I could only see the 118 MB paritition as a drive letter. The remaining space was together in an unrecognized partition.
Here's what I can see from the respective OSes.
From Puppy Linux Live SD
mm0p1 vfat 117MB
mm0p2 vfat 770MB
mm0p3 ext4 2.0 GB
mm0p5 vfat 26.9 GB
From Windows
118 MB Fat32
Remaining space is in an unrecognized partition
What else should I try? Is it better to use linux to flash the SD card?

That is the way it is supposed to be in Windows. One drive. That is why you need to use the live CD.
The mm0p5 vfat 26.9 GB is the partition you want. Mount that with the file manager and copy those files to it.

I am sorry everyone, I have spent over ten hours on this and am no closer to getting the CM10 and GAPPS copied over to the SD card. No matter what I do, the first VFAT/FAT32 partition is 115-118 MB, which I believe is by design. The free space on this drive is 4 MB, so not enough room to move the .zip files over. As I understand there are three other partitions created, with the last paritiion being the remaining space in a VFAT/FAT32 parition. I can never access this last partition, so I can't copy over the ZIP files to load CM10 and GAPPS.
I have tried dozens of times burning with Win 32 Image Burner, and using dd from both Puppy Linux and an Ubunutu Live CD. I purchased a USB Micro SD HC reader because I read that the built-in SD card readers in laptops aren’t very well supported in Linux.
I have both a 32 and 16 GB Sandisk Class 4 card that I am using. Both cards have the same issue. In Windows, I made sure to run the SDFormatter tool before burning. I once attempted to to manually create the partitions in Mini Partition Tool and burn the image, but that partition information is overridden whenever applying the image to SD card.
In Windows I can “sometimes” see the remaining space on the 4th VFAT/FAT32 partition using the Mini Partition Tool. Windows is not able to read more than the first partition for removable media, so no luck in accessing the contents there.
Note that I was only able to see these additional partitions once in Puppy Linux and never on Ubuntu. Using gparted on the two Live CDs was not successful at distinguishing anything other than the first 118 MB partition. The remaining space in gparted for the SD card has a “Warning” icon saying that it can’t be accessed.
I am using a Dell Latitude 6320 to burn the SD card. I am so frustrated and really want to get this working. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I feel so foolish!

You will never see it in Windows no matter how many times you burn it. So stop trying.
You did see the partitions in Linux because you posted the output here. What you are failing to do is "mount" the partition so it becomes a drive letter in Linux. I do not know enough about Linux to tell you the specific commands to mount it, but I have done it somehow. If you look in gparted, it will tell you if the partition is mounted or not. If not, you must figure out how to mount it. If it is mounted, note the drive letter and look for that in your file manager. When you open the Linux file manager, do you see some drives in the upper left corner?
By the way, did you boot with your card in the nook once so those partitions get created? You have to. I know you did it earlier since you posted the Linux output. But every time you reburn it, you have to do it again as reburning destroys the partitions.
Edit: If you don't get it going soon, I recommend you abandon any more attempts at installing the standard SD method and go to my Hybrid approach. You do not have to do any of this ADB or Linux nonsense with my set up. Just copy the CM and gapps zips to internal memory and install with CWM from there.

Thanks Leapinlar, I don't remember putting the SD card in the Nook after burning and then returning it to the computer to over the CM and gapps. I didn't realize that was a requirement (was that in the instructions from verygreen?). I'll try that once more and if it doesn't work, I'm giving up on that and trying your Hybrid route!

His instructions said to use ADB so you boot and connect the cable instead of remove and put back in the PC. Many people had trouble getting ADB to work so other users started to say to use Linux.
And you don't have to install CM10 to enjoy more apps. Just go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread and flash the gapps + extras zip and you can get all the apps you want on stock.

I can`t find an answer for my problem..even google did not helped me!
I bought Nexus 7 32Gb GSM (tilapia) to try out Ubuntu Touch and to play with other OS`s and roms. I flashed the device many times with native roms and with Multirom so the last events are: removed all secondary roms (Plasma active,ubuntu core and ubuntu touch), removed multirom with multirom_uninstaller, upgraded bootloader to 4.23, upgraded radio to 1231_0.18.0_0409, flashed stock Android 4.3 and installed again Multirom (multirom_v12_n7-signed) with kexek kernel, installed Bodhi linux.Then I tried to put back again Ubuntu core and the process was stopped with msg like "there is not enough space".When i check in "Storage" tab in Android the info is Total space 6.02Gb and available 5.81Gb..
Is there any junk left after the old roms and how can I fix this mess?
Please help!!!
I remember I was having a lost memory issue, not nearly as bad as you, but if you have root Explorer or some way to get to /data/media/0/multirom check the ROMS folder and ensure it is empty. If it isn't, then you still have old ROMS there. Not sure if that will help but let me know

I`m sorry but I can`t find /data/media/0/multirom ! The folder /data is empty ! Right now I don`t have multirom installed. I used Root Browser and ES Explorer cause Root Explorer is payed
Is there someone who can help me ?

If /data is empty then you have no files on your SD card I'm guessing? If you have files on your SD card then you are looking at the data folder in your SD card and you need to get a root app which allows you to see the data folder on the root of your system

I had the same problem and it was caused by nandroid backups, duplicated 0/0/0/0 folders (with allll my files mirrored) and misc junk items in my system. I used disk view app to determine where all my space went and deleted all the appropriate files. This was on my 16gb N7, which lost 12gb once. That's how I was able to recover most of that space. Now, whenever I do nandroids on my 32gb N7, I move them to my computer immediately. I also make sure to clean up with root cleaner every so often, wipe cache and dalvik, etc. Get the disk view app, it will show you where your space has gone. I was able to recover almost all of my lost 12gb on my 16gb N7 by doing this.

I understand this is an old thread, but I recently had the same thing happen AGAIN on my Nexus 7 32gb. This time I updated from 4.2.2 to 4.4.4. After the flash, I had 6gb of usable space. I reflashed 4.2.2 to no avail, updated my recovery, and checked all my files/folders. I found an interesting, unexpected solution...
I upgraded my bootloader to 4.23, then I re-locked it, and then re-unlocked it. Voila, it was back to my normal space (something like 27gb usable). I read somewhere this worked for someone else, so I tried it, and it worked. Locking & unlocking the bootloader could help others reclaim their missing unused space.

An alternative that is much easier if you're familiar with fastboot is:
fastboot format system -w
It completely erases your rom and the entire user data partition. The partitions will have to be reformatted in recovery, but you'll be sure that there aren't any orphaned folders anymore.

I'm always happy to learn new methods- the more, the better. Thanks! Also wanted to add, I didn't have to update the bootloader, I just chose to. It would have also worked had I simply locked & unlocked the BL. It was super easy & didn't have to reformat anything. Anyway, I have a list of commands I'm compiling & saving for future use, so I'll add yours to the list.

I've been loading Rom after Rom on my S4 and settled on the GoldenEye 29 Rom.
Now.....after all is said and done, when plugged into my PC, it's only showing 9.57gb total.
16 gig phone.......... Strange??
I'm going to do a full factory wipe to bring i tback to the way it came out of the box
and start over.........How?? How to format the entire phone? EVERYTHING....bring
the directory structure back to normal?

If you want to bring it back like new use Odin and flash the same firmware you're currently on back onto the device
But the amount of storage you have does not look unreasonable. Did you make any nandroid backups? They take a lot of space

But we are using custom roms. So how would it still take up the extra 6 gigs missing? Or am I forgetting something?
Unless I am missing something, you are not going to see more than that. I think the area that Samsung set aside is not changeable. And your numbers are consistent with what others report. My 32gb phone shows 23.81 availabe and 13.11 free after taking into account what I have loaded. It won't show 32gb. I am also running CM11 M6, a light rom in comparison to TW roms.
If I am off on this you more techy guys can set me straight--

The partition sizes are set. Custom roms don't change those. Userdata is what you have available the rest is allocated by android. Even if you don't use all the space in other partitions you don't have access to that storage
