CronMod for Moto E XT1022 - Moto E General

Currently working on a tutorial to use the CronMod Script on the Motorola - Moto E (XT1022).
This tutorial will include step by step instructions on how to combine your system memory and SD card into a single system partition thereby removing any restrictions of space and installing large apk file sizes. eg - from 1.5 gb free space to 8gb and above.
Feel free to comment upon the same... Will be updating the post soon with the links toward the same tutorial.
Cheers! :good:

[quistion] a2sd for vega?

I've searched xda and google for days and can't find a straight answer.
Is it possible to get a a2sd script running on any rom for the Advent Vega? I read that it's possible to use link2sd from the market but is that gonna work the same.
I want to buy this device and share all the apps (100+) from my phone onto it but 512mb just is not enough.
Any answer will be greatly appreciated

AFAIK Link2SD is better than App2SD.
Don't need them because I'm using Froyo and its built-in App2SD feature.
And this tablet doesn't have 512MB ROM, but sadly only 150MB free ROM storage for apps.
PS: With your post count you should already be familiar with XDA's rules!
This thread should be in General section!
Thankyou, to be honest I rarely make threads and as it was about a a2sd script I thought it should go in development.
I'm not talking about the crappy stock a2sd and the thousands of apps that enables you to go to manage apps and move them across that way.
I'm talking about proper DTa2sd, the same script up can get on most handsets that moves any installed app to the ext partition on the sd card not the fat32

I asked this on numerous treads. And never got an answer.
I searched a lot to but not found a thing.
Maybe it is personal. but i find link2sd crap.
a2sd on my HD2 is amazing it just look likes the internal memory is used.
I'm going to follow this tread.

Looks like no1 is able to answer. It's a shame as from what I read this tablet has so much potential. I'm going to look at how the script works and make 1 my self.
IF ONLY I KNEW WHAT TO DO!!!

I use link to sd app and i have a only 16gb sd memmory but i set a partition of 4 gb to aps and i work very fine maybe you need this app link2sd. I found it on android market.

Use link to sd. Best option for the low internal mem devices. I use it too first on the stock android, now on the latest honeyice rom.
Works like a charm and due to the ext2fs compatible with all apps. More than app2sd. Link2sd also has app2sd build in.
Just my xx ct

Thanks for your thoughts. I read mixed reviews for link2sd half say it's great half not. I'm def gonna buy one of these on payday. Now how do I close this thread, or should I leave it open

Teamhacksung's CM9(Build 15) doesnot allow full usage of the 2 GB memory in I9000

CM 09 Build 15 starts showing Low memory issue as soon as the memory consumption nears 225 MB of ROM, when there is about 1.6 GB of Memory still left in the phone. SGS I9000 has 2 GB of ROM.
I don't think the RAM could be running out because I used to have a lot more apps running with Gingerbread and still it does not used to show low memory error still. Nor has any app crashed. Now the apps too crash when the low memory error occurs.
PS: I did not have permission (this is my first post in XDA ) to write on the development thread so posting here.
(I had posted this in XDA general, now moving to SGS forum. Thanks @cashmundy for the tip)
This is a known issue and the 2nd time in 2 days I've answered this. It's talking about the space in /datadata, you can check how much you have by looking in the folder using root explorer. Moving some larger apps to SD should help.
Thanks.. I checked the known issues in the development thread and since it wasn't listed there, I posted here.. It would be great if the main development thread's first post can be modified to reflect this also a known issue. Yep, I have for a temporary basis I have uninstalled a few apps and have moved a few more apps to SD card.
Looking forward to the next build or the subsequent builds for the fix!
Thanks @beardedwonder for the reply!
Look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444333
Thanks for the quick reply. I have implemented the solution that has been suggested in that thread.. Will report back after analysis if I run into issues.. Thanks again for the good soul that made the script..

It has been more than 8 days since I implemented the suggested solution and I have installed atleast 20 apps, and a few of them are really huge, like wordweb(which downloads about 40 MB of data).. And I have to say that the fix is nothing short of awesomeness!
Thank you to whomsoever it applies..
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
This is a common problem with all ICS ROMs. All you have to do is use an app like Root File Manager, and open datadata folder and make a new file called ".nodatadata", reboot and no problems restoring your apps from titanium backup or whatever you use!

Resizing system partition to get more space

Good Question
Would also be interested if this is possible
WebOS is a different animal compared to Android. And Im sure this wont be possible with a locked bootloader. Messing with the partitions is dumb imo, thats the easiest way to hard brick a device.
Guys I came from an LG nitro and we had several issues with modified system partitions really screwing things up. Messing with your system partition is the fastest way to end up with a shiny paperweight. Don't do it.

I can agree with you but it's a total nonsense that I bought a 32gb G2 version and available disk space sis just 24gb... hope lg will release some kind of fix/workaround soon

Why would they? Its partitioned that way to hold the size of their default software...

Would definitely love for more free space especially since i'm running cm11 and the rom is practically a little over 200MB.
Probably some of the devs can have a look at this
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The system partition is 3.2 GB. It isn't like you can go from 24 to 31 GB free. If your that desperate over an extra gig, you might need to reevaluate what you have on your phone, or invest in a microsd usb card reader.
Also, 200 MB is most likely the size of the zip file, you are using to install the rom. That is compressed size. Mahdi rom (I have on my pc at moment so could check), is 208 MB compressed.. The actual install size is 351 MB. That doesn't include gapps, which also installs to the system partion. The core gapps package is 18MB but installs to be 30 MB. And that is assuming you are using core, the full packages are MUCH larger.
So theoretically, you could free up maybe 2.7GB. Is it really worth a good chance at bricking your phone for that?
This might sound dumb, but I'll say it anyway...
There is media in /system/media, not sure about songs, but certainly ringtones etc
I wonder if one could dump a few gigs of mp3's into /system to make better use of the space, and less use of the media drive (/sdcard).

we need to unlock bootloader to be able to resize partitions
It would be nice to be able to shrink the system partition. I've attached a sample screen of my G2 that is running CM11 nightlies.
But yeah, dropping the system to 1GB would leave plenty of room and boost the 24.1GB up by about 2.2GB to 26.3GB (a 9% increase which is fairly significant).
As others have mentioned though there is the issue of the bootloader.
On a second thought...I recall the unroot/unbricking flash tool causing some issues for people related to phone storage sizes.
I wonder if someone creative might be able to create an image with custom partition sizes via this method.
If u cant resize the partitions, IT would be kind a awesome to create a custom recovery like safestrap or boot Menu Manager which can create multiple System Slots so that u have multiple Systems on ur g2. So Let's say a aosp rom and a modded Stock rom at da same time.
Like so that devs See that.

Does any one have any clue on how to resize the /system? I have been researching on how it's done on other devices but no luck using the same methods.
You can't. Enjoy your phone as it is

I would also apreciate that. Having a 16Gb phone with just 10Gb free is a waste of space.
Stock Roms may be 3.2Gb compressed and inflate to 6GB uncompressed, but I am running on CM11, which only should be 500MB at most, when uncompressed.
Also this phone not having a micro SD card really kind of messes it up.
i have 2 galaxy s variant (epic4g sprint usa & sc-02b docomo japan) both have long journey in development history from cm7 to latest cm-11
the partition size was change several times to accommodate bigger system files in newer version
afaik it can be set in kernel source for both device on mtd samsung onenand driver
I don't know about g2 because I just own this device for 2 days lol
I have 16gb, so find a dev who works on this will be a great news for me
Anybody found anything useful regarding shrinking the partition?

{Porting} HTC One mini 2 Rom

Hi devs I am creating this thread to request you guus to make a htc one theme based rom... Please devs as moto g mostly contain stock like rom there is no themed rom for moto g..!
The Following Information is proved by @lost101
Here is some information about why and how this port might be possible. The HTC One Mini 2 and Moto G share very similar hardware; they both appear to use the same CPU: Qualcomm MSM8226 Snapdragon 400. They also use Adreno 305 for graphics. Side-by-side comparison.
I have taken the ROM created by @Will972 from here - edited the install script to match the XT1032 partition table and replaced the 4.4.2 Kernel / Kernel Modules with those for XT1032 GPE.
Download Link: XT1032_One_Mini_2_stock_2.18.401.3.zip (1.1GB)
Please note, that due to the size of this ROM, it can only be installed with MultiROM. The ROM zip can be extracted, and some apk(s) removed and simpy rezipped to make it flashable in custom Recovery. See below for space available on XT1032.
XT1032 Partition info: (GPE 5.1 installed)
Name: /system
Size: 960.6M
Used: 501.6M
Free: 459.1M
Something I did notice this time, that I missed before; is that the install script formats /system to EXT4. If I recall correctly; in previous attempts to boot this ROM, I was using the f2fs-only stock kernel. In the above ROM zip, I have included the GPE 4.4.2 kernel which supports EXT4.
Also note; users who have the v41.18 Bootloader will experience screen-flicker when booting KitKat kernels. I am not sure if such users can even still boot a 4.4.2 kernel.
Suggestions / Ideas:
1. The ROM is currently pre-rooted, this could cause some boot issues. Will attempt to provide an unrooted version asap.
2. The /data folder included in the root of the ROM zip can probably be removed entirely without affecting the ROMs ability to boot.
3. If ROM will not boot, replace system files in HTC One Mini 2 ROM with those from the 'Untouched' XT1032 GPE 4.4.4 ROM available here. Initial focus should probably be in the areas of /etc and /lib.
4. ROM may be compatible with GPE 4.4.4 Kernel.
I did look into porting a HTC One Mini 2 ROM - as the hardware is very similar to Moto G. However the system partition on Moto G was barely big enough to hold the ROM, even with all the HTC apps removed.
Moto G Stock Motorola ROMs are around 500mb, but HTC One Mini 2 Stock ROMs are 1.2gb.
Here is a link if someone is interested: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-mini-2/development/htc-one-mini-2-stock-rom-2-16-401-1-t2933513
Just grab a CM12, install an HTC theme, and install Sense Home and other HTC APKs which have been available for quite some time (search!). If you want other functions of an HTC phone then why aren't you buying one in the first place...

Doing such a thing has been discussed since the Moto G was first released. On other devices, changing the size of /system has required a modified custom recovery, and / or other modifications. It rarely appears to be a simple process.

That's why I said 'mess'
BTW- WE CAN USE MULTIROM TO BOOT THE ROM BECAUSE IT FLAHSES THE SECONDARY ROM IN DATA PARTITION
So a bigger ROM size wouldn't matter there

I have booted both Moto E (2014) and Moto E (2015) ROMs. Simply creating a flashable zip from the firmware image and replacing Kernel / Kernel Modules with those for XT1032 is enough to get it booting with working WiFi / Calls.

It's a more complicated process and requires someone with real experience. For instance, messing around with TWRP backup from HTC one mini 2 could destroy a Moto G overwritting sensitive partitions. A zip that only flashes to /system carries no risk. I would assist someone interested in the project.

You could change the title of the thread to: [Porting Project] HTC One Mini 2 ROM
People with more experience and time than me are required to make it happen. I could provide a ROM zip as a starting point, but it would be up to others to make it boot and fix everything that's broken.
