Hi,
i have a wipe issue with sdmerge roms and cwm recovery 5.x (can't wipe data)
I would like to update recovery, taking recovery.img (cwm 6.x) from sdmerge steps.
i see two recovery img files, one in step1 and one in step2, and they have different size.
someone can tell me wich recovery.img i have to flash? The one inside step1 or inside step2?
and how to flash recovery.img?
thanks advance

First of all I'd like to thank all of you guys helping us noobs to get the best out of our phones.
To the problem, I can't get the clockworkmod to replace the stock recovery. I've tried to install older versions with rom manager but it doesn't work. Does amon ra work for legend? Any other ideas that I can try?
I'm using azure nightly 0927

what are you trying to accomplish?
I want to be able to boot to a recovery where I can apply a backup. As it is now I get to the stock recovery screen when I push recovery in the bootloader.
Sent from my Legend using XDA App
Because the recovery partition is locked at all times and we need to wait for an engineering hboot or unrevoked forever to write to it.
Once this is accomplished you will be able to write a custom recovery image.

Oh, thanks. But there's no option that lets me apply the backups I've done. Only the apply update.zip... Does that mean I can rename my latest backup to update.zip?

update.zip should be containing ClockWorkMod, so called fake flash. Flashing that should bring you the recovery screen with more options...

There are two files you have to flash in CWM/TWRP to have it available at any time. You don't even need a computer to install and test it. Be warned, though, it's really not worth it at it's current state.

The flashable zips are in here. I haven't personally tried it yet -- internet in my country is pretty crappy.. download will take a while..

Flash manta, then flash the armhf, then wipe and you're good to go. That worked for me and didn't mess with my sdcard at all. (obviously it does a 'factory reset' on the device though). Backup with TWRP and you're good to go.

Only if you do it using the Ubuntu install method, where it flashes the .imgs over top. If you install it via CWM/TWRP then it keeps whatever recovery you have on the device.

I flashed them both like you said, but it would just reboot my recovery when about 2/3 the way done with the armhf zip, and i tried just rebooting system but it just boots past google and sits at a black screen. Thinking i might have a bad download but nonetheless it was not a success on my end and im just back on android.
thanks anyways for the help, if anyone else hears of this issue and knows how to solve i would love to know.

There are two types of cwm
Temporary - for users of stock kernel or custom kernel that uses stock recovery
Permanent - cwm is built into the custom kernel & replaces stock recovery
if you want a permanent cwm flash a kernel with permanent cwm (see the kernel features in it's thread)

there has been a permanent cwm for galaxy y for years!!
there are two types of cwm
1 - tempory cwm zip
flash this in stock recovery to get to cwm - needs to be flashed each time you want to enter cwm
2 - permanent cwm
flash a custom kernel with cwm built in - this replaces stock recovery
If you want a permanent cwm just flash a kernel that has cwm built it!

thats exactly what i meant! the first option is hardly permanent, especially if you accidentally delete the .zip.
and what if someone doesn't want to flash kernels?
other phones have a .zip that you flash once and have cwm permanently. that's what i meant by a permanent cwm!

Then get another phone that has that function.
Remember, our phones are not godly, not everything-can-do phones. They are only bottom-range phones. Hardware and software limitations cause this issue. If you want to fix it, do it yourself.
But if you want to contradict yourself and say "I wanna stick to my little Y" then flash a kernel.
Which is essentially in a zip.
And then you get permanent CWM.
Problem solved.

other phones work in a different way - for example HTC phones have fastboot and a recovery totally different from a samsung galaxy y 5360
the only way in this phone to replace the recovery perminantly is to flash a kernel that has it

I flashed Philz from inside TWRP. I would suggest following the instructions for TWRP then flashing Philz from there. I know that works.

Not that I know of. The files in the OP are flashable from an open recovery. I had flashed TWRP before I found this. I would not recommend using something like flashify. Use the step by step guide using adb to flash TWRP. After that use TWRP to flash this. The backups for this are huge so having USB OTG support Is very useful.

Hello chickygamon,
I can't access cwm too, but for another reasons. I hoped your threat could help me.
Well, my try, I understand you are trying to access cwm only pressing two bottoms, aren't you? If you want to access cwm through harwdware buttons you should to press three buttons: Power [on/off] mobile, volume- and "menu" button. (You can look up "boot into cwm recovery lg optimus l5" at youtube and see it.)
You are fortunate in accessing cwm from terminal, I can't.
About your backup, It's difficult for us to help you if we don't know what it is the error message. Please tell us what cwm says.
