[Q] Changing setting of back buttons - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello ! Could someone please tell me if it possible to change the actions of the back volume buttons on the LG G2? By default, when your phone is locked, if you press the downside button it goes straight to camera, and the upside button to QuickMemo. I would like to change this upside button to go to Flashlight, meaning turning the camera led on, instead of going to QuickMemo. Sometimes you just need to turn on a flashlight and it takes 5-10 seconds to get to the widget. It would be a much quicker way of accesing it.

i think you can do this with xposed modules (g2 or g3 tweaksbox, depending on which rom you are)
here is a screenshot from g3 tweaksbox miscellaneous settings (i'm on cloudy g3 ported rom)

I don't have root access, and I don't intend to root it anytime soon. I thought there was a way of doing that without root...

I think without root there is no way

Bypassing the power button

Sorry if this is a repetition, but couldn't find a satisfactory answer anywhere else.
The thing is I hate using the power button to wake my phone up. I don't mind the pulling down of the bar on the screen (which is the second step), but constantly fiddling with my power button each time I have to unlock it doesn't gel well with me.
Is there any way one can bypass the first step? I am using an app called Lockbot, but the problem with that is that when I receive an incoming call, it automatically unlocks my phone.
So basically looking for an app which uses any of the front buttons (as first step) and then either the pull-down-bar or an iphone type slide or an eclair type rotating as the second step. Also don't want the phone to unlock all by itself when getting a call.
(Do Lock 2.0 / Keyguard Disabler help here?)
Is your phone rooted? There is such an option in the cyanogen mod to wake up via the trackball
No it isn't, and wouldn't like to root this to be honest. Any apps available for this?

Disabling power button long press/disabling "phone options"

I'm using an alarm clock called Morning Routine. It's great since I'm a heavy sleeper, but I have one problem with it. While the program DOES lock the screen and keep me from going home and closing the app, I can still long-press the power button, access the Phone Options menu, and turn the phone off. I'm a heavy enough of a sleeper that I figured out how to do this while still half-conscious. So, I was wondering if it is possible to develop a script to temporarily or permanently do one of the following:
1) Disable the long-press of the power button to launch the Phone Options menu.
2) Remove Power Off from the Phone Options menu (I know some ROMs add Reboot to this menu, so theoretically, couldn't something be removed?)
3) Re-map the long-press of the power button to another function (thereby disabling the Phone Options menu)
None of these will be a problem if they are permanent - I can download an app that will allow me to shutdown my phone from a widget instead of the power button.
Oh, I'm on the crappy ol' Samsung Moment
Admin, feel free to move this if necessary.
+1.
has ANYONE got a fix for this pls?!?! my daughters are driving me CRAZY turning my GTab off...
Try Button Remapper: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850464
As for the reboot option in the power options, have a look at this then reverse the process: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=811532
you could just get your daughters to not turn off your device...
That's really unhelpful.
I have this issue too - on an HTC desire running DevNull ROM. (Also happens with Oxygen - tried it.) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14709327
Please help!

[Q] Pressing vol down button to activate Camera app disables geotagging?

Hi All,
Is there a way to enable geotagging if I activate the camera app by using the "hold vol-down button to turn on phone" method? This is only a problem when I use the pattern lock. ie, if I use swipe to unlock, the geotagging option won't be disabled. I have the Korean F320k version of the LG G2 btw.
Thanks!

Hi. Any luck tracking this down? I would like to have geotagging on all the time, yet it seems over time the geotagging setting gets turned off. It's frustrating. I also use a pattern lock and occasionally use the "hold vol-down" method to take a picture. Maybe that's whats causing it. From now on, I'll turn geotagging back on and will try to avoid using the back button to take a picture while locked and only take pictures after unlocking and opening the camera app manually via launcher icon. will report back in few days if every picture I take will have location stored. PS: I have the Verizon LG G2.

It seems to disable geotagging when you launch the camera app and bypass the lock screen, either by sliding it in from the side while locked, or by holding the volume button. The only reason that I can think of is that somehow the camera app isn't allowed to access the GPS when the phone is locked, or there is some security issue that LG sees for blocking it.

This happens to me constantly and it's infuriating. It's been a month since it turned itself off and I had no idea. I use the lock screen camera all the time, so that seems like a plausible cause, though on all my other devices it doesn't have that problem.

It's definitely exclusive to this device. I used plenty of Android devices that do not exhibit the same issue. It's related to something LG has done.

[Q] disable capacitive buttons completely

I'm moving over from a nexus 4 and I really hate Samsung back and multitasking buttons. There's 3 things wrong with them
1) the touch zone is too small
2) I'd prefer to use that space to grip my phone
3) the back button should be on the left.
I want to disable these buttons completely (dead zone), and have some sort of on screen buttons similar to AOSP/Nexus.
I just got the phone so I'm not rooted, but I'd like some guidance as to weather this can be done when I decide to root.
Yes, this can be done when you decide to root. It cannot be done without root, although it's worth investigating Samsung's side key panel and turning the key lights off.
Is it possible to make them not lit up when watching stuff from kodi/xbmc
I'm going to start a new thread for this for rooted phones as I have an issue. where not disabling isn't an option.

Screen wakes up all the time

Hey there,
I've a big issue for a few months already.
My S4 jflte always wakes up whenever the screen turns off.
I tried to figure out where it's caused by and when I cut off the soft buttons (home/menu/back) and started the phone, the screen didn't wake up anymore.
As far as I know there is no way to repair this w/o damaging the screen itself.
So could I block the buttons from waking up the screen?
As you can see when a app is opened and the screen turns off automatically and turns on again, the home screen appears and puts the app in the background.

Could anyone help me? I've been researching for a long time and found no solution.
Says video not found.
Are you on a stock rom?
The Video is working fine for me. Did you copy the whole link and did you remove the brackets? ( )
I'm on AOSP 6.0.1 Kernel 3.4.110-Alucard-PWR-CORE from JDCTeam.
I tried different ROMs so far (including the Stock) and it's definitely a hardware issue.

have you been doing full wipes inbetween roms ? if you have then maybe it's a hardware issue.
Yes, I've always done full wipes. I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue. Is there any way to block the keys from waking up the phone? I usually use the power button anyways to wake up the phone.
You can probably disable the keys altogether. Or maybe just the menu and back key, and leave only the home button functional.
There is no way to do it with that rom yet, but you could use Xposed and Gravity Box.
Most apps nowadays offer inbuilt menu and back options anyway.
Before you try to disconnect any buttons, try to clean the phone. That has solved many problems in the past.
Look for disassemble S4 videos on youtube, and for cleaning use a small paintbrush, or a very soft toothbrush, and Isoprophyl Alcohol(70% clean alcohol, 30% pure water), you can buy that in the Apotheke.
Clean the board an all other reachable electronics. Let it dry, reassemble and see if it helped.
Thanks for the tips, but I've already done that before (twice) without success.
I'm looking for a way to disable the keys from waking up the screen. I've tried it with the key configuration files in the system, but it didn't work.
Example: When I press the home button the screen wakes up. I just want to disable the wake up for all buttons except for the power button.
Does anyone know a app for this? Or a mod for xposed?
There is no actual "wake up" function assigned to the back and menu key. Only the home button has one. So there's nothing you can disable, except for the keys altogether. I already suggested you how to do that in the 5th reply to this thread.
I've found a work-around. I disabled the keys with 'Xposed Additions' while the screen is turned off or locked.
Thanks alot for your help guys!
