[Q] Disabling Auto Updates from AT&T - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got my S5 rooted. Looks like Titanium changed a bit since I last used it to disable the auto push of software from ATT. Can someone verify which app I need to freeze? I believe it is AT&T Software update, but just need to verify. Don't need to go though what I had to last night.....
Thanks

You didn't say whether you meant firmware updates or updates of ATT apps in general. There are usually two system apps that deal with firmware. An OTA update. And a notification app. Verizon and ATT like to rename apps though. You posted your question in the general forum, rather than the ATT forum, so a lot of people here like myself don't use ATT. I have seen the ATT app names posted and if you do a search you will find them in existing threads.
Then freeze or rename the firmware update apps.
If you meant all ATT apps, updates are usually controlled by each app. So your options would be to look through the app's settings to disable updates or disabling the app completely. The only way to block all ATT apps from updating would be to restrict app permissions or use a firewall.

[Q] Disable all automatic updates

I searched about this but I can not find a solution I want to disable all automatic app updates I only found answer do disable automating updates one by one in the Market app but I want to disable them all for I do not waste traffic when I am on 3G data with Wi-Fi I am OK. Does deactivating auto app sync in background under sync and account config do the trick? Even if it does I prefer the option disable all that I think the Market app once add because I need that some apps communicate with the net.
Thanks in advance
Poke around in settings, I know I have automatic updates disabled but I can' t seem to find the settings. In order for me to update, I have to go in to "My Apps" and manually update them.
This isn't the perfect solution to your quandary, but I don't think there is one...
In the Market app, go to Settings, and under Notifications change it from "Notify me" to "Do not notify me".
This will at least keep Market from checking for updates in the background (if I'm not mistaken), and your apps won't be automatically updated unless you open the Market app (again, if I'm not mistaken).
I seen that option but though that was just for notification purposes but In the computing world intuition is not always respected so I belive that will do the trick.
I will try it and post results
i am puzzled by this, but unless you have some sort of ungodly amount of apps installed you can go through the 'my apps' section and uncheck the update automatically check box and since it is off by default you will never have to do it again
Care to explain a little better are you referring disable automating updates one by one in the Market app as I said in my original post?
Thanks
You could also try Droid Wall and try to disable the Market from using 3G Data, and only use your home internet data or whatever.
In Titanium Backup, you can do this. Hardware menu button>more>market auto updates. This option may only be available in the paid version, I dunno. But Titanium is an awesome app and well worth the money.
I think this is what you're looking for...

I tried that but in the first day of August in less then a hour I used all my traffic in my 100mb data plan and I was just reading sites with no heavy java or images, called the phone company and they confirmed that was traffic.
"In the Market app, go to Settings, and under Notifications change it from "Notify me" to "Do not notify me" actually I think this only worsened the issue because when i lost all my allowance I did not see any notification of updates happening if I would be notified i would try to cancel the updates as i already did a few times although this option works randomly.
This issue is pertinent and lots of people are experiencing the same

disable AT&T apps?

i google'd this but can't find anything on it and was wondering if the s3 is the first phone that allows users to disable at&t services without root. this is my first android device so i wouldn't know if that's true...
anyway, i have hotspots, navigator, messages, and updater. Carat is saying updater uses a lot of my battery, but that is the only one i can't disable in the application management menu in settings. however, i assume if i disable the other 3 then updater will have nothing to update and will consume less battery (hopefully).
has anyone tried to disable these programs with success, i.e. without it causing problems to your phone?
im not sure. but i did try to uninstall one and then it just showed up that it needed a update so i ended up redownloading the app because im so OCD about having updates not done

You go into the application manager and DISABLE the app. I have gotten rid of ALL the ATT bloatware this way. Works sort of like
Titanium Backup but you do not need the root. Great option.
CC
This is actually one of the 'features' of ICS (being able to disable apps w/o needing root). It basically very similar to "freezing" apps in TiBackup if you have root. It's generally much safer than outright deleting an app since if you do find you need it you can always re-enable it.
Make sure you have "auto update" unchecked in Google play first. Go to manage apps in settings and then go to "all".
Disable the ones that you don't need which is prolly a lot. You can also hide them if you want. While in your app drawer hit the menu button and choose hide apps.

Pre-installed Facebook App on Note 4

After disabling the built in Facebook application using the Application Manager, I noticed it somehow automatically updated itself and no longer appeared in the Disabled apps list. It's crazy enough I have deal with unwanted pre-loaded applications I won't use but having something on my device that's re-enabling a specific application I disabled and automatically updating it is unacceptable to me. I'd like for someone who also owns this device to try the same thing and letting me know your observation.
Yeah, it's re-enabled itself twice on me already. At this point, since I've not yet rooted my phone, I unfortunately am letting it remain installed & updating, even though I have no facebook account (anymore)
You have to disable the face book messenger too or it still has its hooks in your phone. I disabled it on day 1 and no problems at all for me

Get root access, first of all.
Get Root Explorer.
Navigate to root > system > app > find Facebook and delete it.

Ok so it happened to me when I connected to WiFi so I turned off the automatic updates in play store settings and it shouldn't happen again.

I also had that disabled within the Play Store but a new Software Update was just released that states it improves performance and has some bug fixes so I'll try disabling it again after applying this update.
Even if you disable an app, it will ask you to update it. If you update it, it will activate again. Make sure to disable auto-updating and when updating apps, just dont update that one.
Why is facebook even forcefully on our phone...not only do we have to deal with manufacturer bloat, carrier bloat, now facebook bloat?!?!?!

I wasn't going to root to test out how KNOX due to using my phone for work but FB pissed me off with always updating even though i disabled it and i finally said "F That" and rooted.
All preinstalled apps can do this.
It's because the play-store app has to be restarted once to get the application off from the updates list.
The pending update will raise the application even if it was disabled.
I had this happen with play magazines and movies. They kept coming back and there always was an update for them as i kept reverting them to
original state while disabling them.
So kill play store from the task manager after disabling an app. This has nothing to do with facebook.

Facebook auto,updates
This same thing happens to me. I have an AT&T version of Galaxy Note Edge. No root exists for this miserable $1,000 piece of crap phone.
My play settings are set to NOT auto update.
Facebook comes as a system app on this phone.
Can't root it, so can't get rid of it. Constantly auto updates, disabling the Facebook chat enabler, which doesn't require the separate messenger app. The chat enabler doesn't work with newer versions, so every day I have to go to the app manager and Uninstall updates to FB. Doesn't prompt for updates, just does it. Can't revert back to Kit-Kat on the phone because it bricks the phone.

Block Bloat Apps (non-root)

Disclamer : I have not done any of this work, I just found it searching online. If you block the wrong apps you CAN mess up your phone.
I was able to block any/all apps I wanted including all AT&T bloat apps, My model is AT&T LG-H810
I grab the drivers from here.
Then install this app. From there it is easy to follow the instructions from that thread.
Block or hidden ? I have used sice 1-2 weeks.

I used this before seeing this post. It works without root and is very simple to do.
I've been using this on my G3 but didn't even think about it for the G4. Hid all the usual stuff including stuff that could'nt be disabled.

You can block it with this program.
Is this any different than disabling them through Android without any special apps?
I was not able to disable some of the bloatware apps from AT&T through Android. With this program I could disable anything I wanted to.
You can disable anything you want to without using any program. Settings -> Apps -> All apps
And you can disable stuff there. Including Facebook and Twitter, which you can't disable through launcher.

Quite a few actually, My T-Mobile for one, the stupid Lookout "Security" app for another, several LG "helper" apps (I can't list since I don't have my wife's G4 in front of me) but I found that more than half the T-Mobile & LG bloatware I wanted to disable I wasn't able to, at least 8 apps I was stuck with.

Which drivers did you use? 815's? I don't see ATT 810 listed there. Thanks.
EDIT: Nevermind, after a few tries the G4 propmted me to load drivers onto computer. Just had to say yes.
I tend to use mainly Googles apps as opposed to LG's apps. The main culprits like my-t mobile are gone, but I dont use googles movies, games or LG's music and smart card. I have half the apps I started out with. The only LG Apps I like are the clock and camera. I cant wait till we get root at the very least, then use titanium backup and uninstall all of the bloat for good.
Alright ran this tool disabled LG keyboard and the. Updated to 11B. Now wanting to test the keyboard on latest Verizon update and the keyboard shows in settings but is greyed out. Used the tool and unchecked keyboard but it will not let me turn it on.... Greyed out... Anyone have a solution or the LG keyboard apk

PSA: Updating BlackBerry apps on a Priv

I've seen some people are getting their own Priv's, so I thought I would remind people that there's an odd bug making the Blackberry apps not show up under my apps in the Play Store. You have to go to the app pages manually and update from there, as there will be no notification. Perhaps @thurask can answer if the apps start to auto update?
I've seen this kind of thing on other Android devices. Seems like stock apps don't register for updates until you update them at least once, and then you get on-going update notifications. At least, that's been my experience with other devices. Once my Priv arrives, I'll be sure to add my experiences with it. Hopefully tonight! It's marked as shipped through Rogers' Reservation System since last night, so I'm hoping tonight... Really can't stand my LG F3Q anymore =\

Just reboot your device after first setup. Then go into playstore and update all of your apps.
