While I agree that the update will probably be released in the next few weeks, PTCRB certification only tests for compliance to mobile (cell) network standards and is only a small part of Sony's certification process. Therefore it does not guarantee a particular firmware version will be released.

Very likely that 4.4.4 will stay the latest update. According to this source, Xperia Z will become EOL, and not get an official Android L update:

I personally think we was lucky to get 4.4.4 anyway so certainly not at all expecting Android L currently deciding what to do buy out my contract and get the Z3 or wait until January and see what else is available

2.3.4 (non-Nordic fw) expected in late October/early November

http://www.xperiablog.net/2011/09/2...s-row-expected-in-late-octoberearly-november/
Sony Ericsson has confirmed over on its product blog what we have already known for days i.e. that the Android 2.3.4 update is rolling out to the 2011 range of Xperia handsets (Xperia arc, Xperia neo, Xperia ray and Xperia PLAY) in the Nordic countries. For those in other countries wondering when they can see the update, you should expect a long wait.
For some reason, Sony Ericsson says that all other regions will see the update at the end of October or early November. That’s a whole month away. We’ve never seen this happen before, so we wonder what the reasons behind the delay are. Maybe there will be some new functionality or maybe there’s another reason. No explanation was given in the blog post. For all of the kits released so far, click here.

the Nordic and the generic uk/us ones should be exactly the same, with MAYBE less bug fixes

I'm waiting for a baseband update, since the 2.3.3 xloud update has made my wifi unusable in any location. Reverting back to 2.3.2 fixes it, but screw that haha.
probably something to do with the playstation suite
arrrggghhh! i'll be staying on a no-WiFi area starting late October until early January!!! I need OTA! GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
flashtool,put in the Nordic one,PROFIT!!!
staying on stock ROMS for now and no way on unlocking bootloader until a stable and final CM7 is available..

It's VERY annoying, and there doesn't seem to be any answers around here for what the problem is, other than hoping the next update fixes it. If you disable data on your phone and have Wifi on, it helps, but it doesn't solve it completely. I'm hoping for a solution.
So it is prolly on december...

Fingers crossed. Might this be Jelly Bean for Z2? I'm new to the Sony ecosystem, but it seems a bit weird for me.

Z2 launched officially with KitKat. The version numbers in this new certified firmware went down, so this might be a step backwards.

Sorry. Punctuation fail on my part...
The numbers haven't gone backwards. "1" is higher than "A" as far as I'm aware.
The previous version was 17.1.A.2.55. 17.1.1.A.0.402 is higher

I'd say it's highly unlikely there will be any new exploits.
Could this contain the fix for the dreaded overheating issue that's plaguing this device? I really hope so. The overheating is the only issue that's making me consider another device.

Id say you should return it if you have issues beside extensive 4k recording.
Heavy use untill it died, and i can only make it "overheat" with 4k camera work.
(Edit) Scratch that, just did another run with 1080 and just goto to 10m, now I am actualy alitle dissapointed.
As far as root goes, there will always be a way to exploit software. Just be happy we have the best minds on it.

I was testing the Xda app on my new d6503. In fact it is my first post on XDA. I've learned a LOT just be reading. Hopefully this new firmware fixes the 4k recording issue and low volumes (notifications and speaker) . I get an "unknown error" immediately after I start recording in 4k. Once a firmware is certified does that mean it will be made public via OTA or PC companion? If so, how long does it normally take from certification to rollout ?

I ordered mine to Australia from Hong Kong, it arrived and had an update to 17.1.A.2.55 out of the box, after a few hours of tinkering I connected it to my PC and installed some of the Sony Mobile Companion software which notified me I had another update to 17.1.A.2.69.
I couldn't tell you what I noticed to be different as I had only had it for 2-3 hours, most of which consisted of downloading most my old apps and signing in etc.

6.0 in testing

Sony/E6853/E6853:6.0/32.1.A.0.X

Sony has 6.0 test builds already, operators should be getting them for acceptance tests.
I'm not personally testing them since I'm "stuck" with retails devices at the moment and no sorry I can't tell you how to get it.
I see. So do you think we will get "concept" version of 6.0 just like Z3 and Z3C soon?
I'm receiving an update now...don't know what it is yet!
Z5C was on 6.152 and as of yesterday is now on 6.200
My Z5P on 6.170, so the new update might be 6.200, putting everyone on the same version.

Check Sony's developer's website for instructions on how to unlock your BL and flash AOSP 6.0. I would just wait though. It's rumored to be officially released OTA in a month or two. Then you wouldn't need to lose your DRM keys.

I can see the binaries, is there an actual build that is flashable? I haven't seen one yet for my Z5P. I have 6.0 on another phone and would love to see a working build for this one. If you can point me toward the download, i would appreciate it.

I think Sony may hold off and move to a once yearly now. There have been no substantial Z6 leaks and we usually see something within a month before MWC.

Huh? How do you come to that conclusion?
I guess the update will be with us either this month or next month. Either way we get it soon. The phone works fine ATM so there's no rush.
At this stage every year we usually see a leak of sufficient substance to show a phone will be released. So far nothing. All the leaks are just rumours.
Also at the start of last year Sony was asked whether they were going to move to yearly.... They said 'not yet' (the Z3+ then came out.)
If anything, the Z6 will be the same as the Z5 lineup with a change of SoC. Design change will be later in the year.
Any news? Does we get MM before or after MWC?
真的吗really?

But what are you doing to calculate those firmware build numbers?
You change a 0 for a 1 in the 2nd slot.
Then you start summing the 4th slot (0........1.....)
And you just give a random number for the 5th slot?
I don't really know about Sony Xperia numbers. (What they mean).
And more importantly.....what's the purpose of posting something like this, without any context? Are you just trying to troll? If that's the case forgive me for taking you seriously at least once. (You're a Senior Member in XDA, so I don't really think this).
Im not a troll. This is only to show the latest state of sonys internal build process. As checked by handset detection.
Its easy
32 is Z5 Z3+ Z4 cause of unified devices with SD810
32.1 is 6.0 as 32.0 is 5.1
32.1.A.1 is a change more than 1000
32.1.A.1.150 so this made 1150 bugs or changes, because the latest number is usually under 1000
the first number changes for most devices
23
25
28
so on.
