So the (I guess) default 'email' is bugging me and I can't get rid of it's notifications. I use strictly gmail, and whenever I get an email, the other 'email' app goes off. It is the stock app, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to make it stop double notifying me with it's horribly ugly interface.
HALP PLS.

I looked again, can't find a setting FOR notifications in the settings. It's just about how emails are viewed.
Is there a separate bigger email setting I should be looking at?
Bump
Open stock email app.
Menu
Settings
Manage accounts
Select account
Uncheck email notifications.
If you have more than one account (which you dont) you need to do this for each email account.

Do you have Gmail account in the stock email handler.
If so remove it so the Gmail app or widget is the only one tied to the account.

I actually prefer to use the email app. Problem is, the email app doesn't seem to download updates until I open it (even with it on ignore in Task MGR). Email app set to download every 10 mins. The Gmail app, however, seems to auto download updates.
Any seen or know of a solution?

The Gmail app supports push notifications, which means as soon as you get an email, you'll get it on your phone. But with the email app, it resorts to polling (checking for new messages every 10 minutes) so it refreshes only when you open it
Lucky you, but my gmail app doesn't do anything. I feel that its always off since I don't get any email notification on ie.
Makes sense. I just like the look of the email app better, but I guess u need to stick with gmail for the push ability.

Go to Settings in the Gmail app and make sure that Email Notifications is checked. That's the whole point of using Gmail compared to Hotmail/Yahoo.. (atleast for now)
It annoys me how you can't select multiples in th stock app. I use K9, it has colours (including led flash) for each account, push, and most importantly, multiple select.

Can the SE email app be removed without causing any problems?

What about in Settings/Data Sync - I think you need Google Sync, and then Google Mail Sync selected too.
settings ---> data synchronization ---> synchronize with Gmail
right, I forgot to check that back after the 100th times of rooting.
Thank you,

nice one thx thats fixed my issue didnt even have to ask lol
For those who have tried both: Which app is better, the stock email, or the Gmail app? All I care about is using it FOR Gmail. I've been using the Gmail app, but wondering if I'm missing out on some features.
It's the same thing. Downloading gmail from the market just updates your stock app. You can tell by going to uninstall it in the market; it will say "uninstall updates" which means you lose the updates but not the apk itself.
The email app is good got a 2nd email address. Use gmail for gmail, it's much better.

Can I assume you are paying the $20/yr for Yahoo's "Plus" service? If not, then that's probably your problem. Can't use POP with a free Yahoo account.
Yahoo has their own email app for android.

My wife's Pro has lost auto-sync with Gmail. It used to do it, and has stopped. The sync setting screen for the Pro is much different than my evo- not sure if I am not finding the right screen or if it doesn't exist.
This happened "around" the time I rooted it with z4r, but not sure if it was caused by the root.
Anyone have this problem or know where I can find sync "settings"?
I have the same problem, its quite annoying having to manually sync both accounts juts to check mail. Im about to give up on the gmail app and just go through the regular email app.
Edit; im giving k-9 mail client a shot. I added my 2 gmail accounts and froze the regular gmail app for the time being.
I do not know which apps require the gmail app but im sure I will find out soon enough.
At least now I have a client that syncs my mail.
I know I can use the regular mail app for gmail but I wanted to try out k-9. Perfect excuse to do so
What's so damn annoying is that it used to do it perfect and now won't...
Put the Power Control widget on ur homescreen. Is the 2nd icon from the right enabled or disabled?

I notice that if the default (Google) calendar app (and calendar storage) are deactivated, that no other calendar app will sync with Google. I am trying to find a calendar app that will sync with Google on its own, is there such a thing?
I ask because I get a LOT of wakelocks (especially using Jorte), even with syncing off.

As far as I know, any Calendar app or widget that syncs with your Google calendar need the calendar service working so it can sync.
You don't need to disable them....just use whatever Calendar you want. I use pure grid Calendar widget ....its great.
I've never noticed the calendar service have any negative effect on battery or waking phone. If you do....then you have some issue. What makes you say it does??

I was getting a lot of wakelocks with Jorte. I uninstalled it and am trying DigiCal which seems to behave much better. I just wish Google Calendar had a couple of themes. It's not bad on its own.

Pure grid has tonnes of themes and widget sizes....but it is a paid app. I have it on all my devices. Check it out.

so i have yahoo mail installed and it doesn't show any notification when i received new emails. yes i already turn all the setting on. from the app and from the setting in android.
the only way i can get notification is by open the app and minimize it. so if i clear yahoo mail from recent app list, it wont show any new notification
so anyone having a problem like mine??
Have you enabled yahoo mail in auto start manager? Otherwise, the app won't stay in the background.
I also have an issue in my 520KL (Taiwan Version 3/32) with facebook and facebook messenger push notifications...the apps are enabled in autostart manager but i don t receive their push notifications almost never. Sometimes they work intermittently. Instead push of other apps such as Gmail, Whatsapp.Twitter,Telegram,ecc. works OK.

On notif there is a section tap to manage notifications, check if your specific apps are enabled, or try Setting --> Apps and check your notification permissions
