Using just one 3G frequency?

Hi, Im planning to buy an LG Optimus L7 II Dual P715, which is listed as having the following 3g frequencies: HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
The issue is that I live in Argentina and I think that we have the following freqs: UMTS 850, UMTS 1900.
I know that this sounds like a model specific, but my real question is if just having one of the required frequencies (850) should work fine here? Im from IT, but I do not know nothing from networks, cell radio frequencies, etc. Ive searched the forum for similar questions and couldnt find anything either.
If there is someone knowledgeable from here, Im planning to use the phone dual sim capabilities with Personal and Movistar.
Thanks!
Ariel
just a small clarification, the cell phone that I intend to buy has the following frequencies: HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100
And here in Argentina we have: UMTS 850, UMTS 1900.
So the only frequency that I would be able to use would be: 1900, would this be enough?
Thanks.

It depends on which company you have your phone and where you live. (UMTS = 3G // HSDPA = H (3,5G)
for example
3G BANDS IN ARGENTINA:
AMBA:
- Personal: 850 y 1900 MHz.
- Movistar: 850 MHz.
- Claro: 1900 MHz.
NORTE:
- Claro: 850 y 1900 MHz.
- Movistar: 1900 MHz.
- Personal: 850 y 1900 MHz.
SUR:
- Claro: 850 y 1900 MHz.
- Movistar: 850 y 1900 MHz.
- Personal: 1900 MHz.
good luck
ok, thanks for the reply... so it wont work, I live in AMBA and will use it with Personal + Movistar.
THanks!

It depends on a few things. If the carrier uses one frequency for upstream data and one frequency for downstream data, it won't work. But even if you can only use 1900 MHz, you'll be without data in areas that use only 850 MHz.

Need expert help: do all snapdragon LTE support same bands?

I was recently told by a senior member of this forum that all snapdragon LTE support the same bands, and the bands are activated based on the sim card inserted.
is this true?
i went on samsung's website to compare the g900f and the canadian version of the s5, the supported bands listed are different.
i'm contemplating on buying the g900f, european version but i'm concerned with not being able to get on the 4g network here in Canada with the euro variant.
thanks for any input.

On the chipset side of things there's only one difference: Exynos (G900H) and Snapdragon (the rest of models).
All Exynos carry an Intel baseband (of dubious power efficiency IMHO)
The modem as you mentioned and the carrier variants are responsible for the multitude of Snapdragon variants.

So essentially my 900I can be turned into a 900F with a modem flash?

Nope, I think. The baseband must be different I would assume, they support different bands.
Just a little sample of what I mean:
3G Network:
HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 - SM-G900H (Exynos, no 4G)

Hi! I have a similar question. I bought a GS5 (G900F Version, imported from Asia), In my country (Chile) it works on 4G LTE 2,6GHz, but the lower band of 4G is 700MHz, which apparently is not supported by this model (it supports 800MHz).
The official model here is the G900M, so my question is if I can flash the "modem.bin" from a G900M to my G900F, with Odin, but without rooting my device (to avoid Knox tripping or Imei problems)? Is it possible? or I simply waste my money?
Sorry for my bad english...
Thanks for your help!!!

No it wont work on many accounts, basically you cant flash a different CSC firmware etc to an alternate CSC device unless you change the CSC of that device or root(and of course the lte modem may not be supported). (an app called Phone INFO is available on Play Store to check, use at your own risk). That doesnt mean it is impossible, however, it is highly unlikely. I hope that cleared things up

Every phone support 3G
Sent from my C6903 using XDA Free mobile app
All have quad band 2G
D6603, D6633, D6643, D6616 have penta-band 3G.
D6653 and chinese models (L55t, L55u) only have quad band 3G(1/2/5/8), missing the AWS 1700mhz band 4.
LTE, you'll have to look at your network and see which bands are more important and are supported
The 6603 has more bands than this! For LTE that is.

(if you are saying 4G = LTE, then yes)
but LTE is a lot more fragmented than 3G (penta band will cover almost all networks), 2G (quad band will cover almost all networks)
that's why it makes sense to say: quad-band 2G & penta-band 3G support = cover most people

NO, bands are not unlockable, they are HARDWARE, so, wichever rom that you flash, they will keep you the same bands.

I don't see why not.
D6603 and D6653 have exactly the same hardware. Bands restriction can be lifted if those restrictions are by software.
Edit:
Flashing another ROM might not lift bands restriction, but manually editing system props might do the trick.
Have a read of the link I posted.

You'll have to compare which radio frequencies the phone is compatible with and what the carrier uses. I know the first can be found on Wikipedia, and possibly the carrier frequencies also.

I did that, and then I ran into this chart and kinda freaked out. Do only the frequency bands matter?
The ATT S 4 seems to definitely have 850 MHz for LTE which SK has in Korea. I couldn't find as reliable information for the S 4 Mini though. Wikipedia also lists SK as having a UMTS/HSPA network at 2100 MHz and according to GSM Arena, the S 4 supports HSDPA on 2100 MHz. So does that mean it's compatible?

Wikipedia also lists SK as having a UMTS/HSPA network at 2100 MHz and according to GSM Arena, the S 4 supports HSDPA on 2100 MHz. So does that mean it's compatible?

Wikipedia has the international S4 Mini listed with the same frequency bands, and if the I337 has them then I can only assume the Mini would. So as far as I know it should be compatible. However, if you're talking about SK Telecom, their wikipedia page also says things about CDMA, and I don't know if that'll work at all.

:/ I was hoping for SK since that had the most matches with bands. Also, I don't think that's necessarily true because when I was looking at S4 specs on either Phone Arena or GSM Arena, they had listed some bands that the AT&T model didn't have that the others did. I assume the same would be the case for the S4 Mini but I don't recall seeing AT&T specific specs regarding the bands for it.

GSM Arena has this:
HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 - SGH-i337
No 900 on AT&T.
and
LTE 800 / 850 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600
(Bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20)
LTE 700 / 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 / 2600
(Bands 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 17) - SGH-i337
No 800, 900, and 1800 on AT&T.
Wikipedia lists SK Telecom as having UMTS/HSPA on 2100 and LTE on 850. Wouldn't that work with the i337?

I suppose it should then, I've just known CDMA and GSM phones not to cross. My friend tried a Verizon SIM in my S4 and it seemed not to work, but I'm not knowledgeable about the differences of GSM and CDMA and whether or not all service will work correctly.

T-Mobile Dropped My Spectrum?

I'm currently using a Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505 International (GSM card)
I'm now getting data speeds of 0.13 Bps. That can't continue.
I'm When I spoke to T-Mobile support they told me that the 1900 Mhz spectrum (LTE) is being dropped for the new 600 Mhz spectrum. This is for 5G. They advised me to get a phone that has 600 Mhz (phones not available yet) and 2100 Mhz spectrum. In the data below you can see that my phone can use 1900 Mhz for 2G and 3G. This is a mess. Apparently the 1900 Mhz my phone used to use (and provided quite good data speeds) has already been dropped, but the 600 Mhz I will need is not yet in phones currently being sold. What do you recommend I do?
The changes are related to T-Mobile aquiring new frequencies so they can improve service and data speeds. This implies that T-Mobile dropped a frequency which my phone used (1900 Mhz?), and which used to give me quite good data speeds.
So my slow data speeds are the result of changes made by T-Mobile. I brought my own phone, and did not purchase from T-Mobile, so they didn't offer me a new phone cheap.
My research shows me that my area has 700 Mhz LTE. But apparently my phone can't use that.

3G: 850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz, UMTS / HSPA+
4G: 800, 850, 900, 1800, 2100, 2600 MHz
Get a device that uses US LTE bands. Your only other option is to risk bricking your S4 to add US bands to its radio chip.
