If you're on a custom rom just relash it
Now you know how important - and useful backups are.
Anyway, reflash your custom ROM or a quick search of this site would find you a stock build.prop file.
In the alternative, you could use Odin to write a full stock firmware to your handset and start from scratch.
.
I see nandroids as time savers. Or else you gotta start from scratch!

Hey guys
Quick question here guys, im a complete noob on android. Ive rooted my phone, and have installed greenify, titanium backup, and clockworkmod recovery software. I read somewhere i should have made a back up copy before rooting. Is it too late to unroot, or can i still do it now? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
The general idea is to to root, install a custom recovery and make a backup before you proceed with installing any new root-access apps, roms, etc. Backups (nandroids) are made in a custom recovery like twrp or, in your case, cwm. Cheers

Is it too late to make a backup if I've done all that stuff? Wow I've got gaps in my knowledge as a noob.

If your already rooted and have MDL/MDB bootloaders and a custom rom you can make a nandroid backup at anytime. This is good practice whenever switching Roms performing a backup before flashing a new rom. It gives you something to restore in case you have issues with the new rom or just don't like it and want to be back to where you were before. Think of a nandroud backup as an ISO IMAGE where everything is saved/restored exactly like the point you made the backup.
Now if you WANT to save a backup if the stock firmware right after you rooted it then no you cannot just do that easily. To do it you will need to Odin back to the stock firmware (MDB/MDL firmwares) then re root your phone, make a backup, then flash the Roms you want.

Well darn. I'm running stock mdl. Haven't tried a custom rom because I don't have a external storage card, not to mention after using Titanium and greenify and whatnot I've pretty much got it how I want it at this point. Oh well live and learn. Thank you for the information. There's so much I'm trying to learn post iPhone 5.

I have a Sprint Galaxy S4 that is rooted on 4.3 MJA with the new Knox loader.
Well when I was going to flash a new rom, I accidentally
flashed is rom ViSiOn-X (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2424442)
for the Galaxy S 4 i9505 models by mistake because I didn't read the simple top part
of the forms nor the file name.
Now I removed that rom by reflashing the stock rom provided here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2505025)
but my phone now says no signal/searching for signal/emergency calls only,
basically its not finding the network.
So I tired flashing the MJA modem through odin, but no luck.
I've also flashed KT-SGS4-JB4.3-TW kernel (no luck as well)
through recovery to the stock if that means anything.
So now I'm out of ideas and could use anyone knowledge on
this problem.
Thank you for your time.
p.s. I've made a backup previously to all this but when
I restore I still get no signal and FC in a lot of google apps.
Odin stock MJA. You might lose your internal memory so back up anything important.

I did make a backup, if you'd fully read my first post
"p.s. I've made a backup previously to all this but when

But its ok, not reading is what lead me here, and
we all make mistakes that we must learn from
sorry I did not read the "p.s."
hope reflashing through odin works

Dude just a little, very little searching and reading and you'll find you can root your phone with cf-autorot. IT'S ALL HERE for the looking.
Hi xda experts,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 LTE SM-N9005
Android 4.4.2 KitKat
Baseband Version: N9005XXUENB1
Build Number: KOT49H.N9005XXUENB1
Rooted Stock Firmware.
Anyway, I'm not a noob, but it's just the fact that I'm a little afraid to flash a custom rom like X-Note. I'm not afraid it would brick, but I'm afraid I would lose IMEI. Just like what happened on my Note 2. I installed an app I found here on XDA called Samsung Tool. I backed up my efs/IMEI through it but I'm still worried. I have a stock Samsung firmware on my phone but I can't flash it til 3 days cause my computer isnt with me. And also, I found threads on sammobile saying they lost IMEI after flashing the stock firmware through ODIN.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Once I rooted and flashed a custom recovery. I don't face any of these problem. Thou so far I flashed many stock custom ROM and MIUI. Never try aosp yet
As long as you have efs backup and make a backup of your stock software you should be fine I'm using x note v 18 and have to say it is one of the best roms I have used up to now

The thing is, occasionally it is not /efs' problem but rather your problem.
Last night I supposedly lost my IMEI when my IMEI hit null/null and my baseband was unknown. I clean flashed Stock S5 port from C-RoM (AOSP).
Then I realized it was because the firmware was incompatible with my device, and once I flashed back to a comfortable custom ROM I know that works, like X-Note, everything came back to life.
If nothing happened using TWRP, then nothing was wrong with your efs. I was about to restore my efs backup but then I tried alternatives.
Hi guys,
I did root my device recently, is there any way to re-lock it again as I need to bring it back to the company?
Flash the latest firmware using Odin or initialize using smart switch. This will wipe the the data on the phone.
Stop making a post on this, multiple threads here that talk about fixing this.
Thank you qwewqa. Onw question more more please, how can I have a backup copy of my stock rom that I currently have? Something different than titanium backup please.
Thanks again

Do you mean the rooted rom or the rom you have after the reset. You could backup using flashfire if rooted. Smart switch works for non rooted devices and rooted devices but will not backup app data.
Bump to top. When I flashed latest firmware it still shows the pad lock and custom
Any ideas? If possible to go completely stock?

Did you try reading post #2?
Re-flash the original firmware. It won't be rooted if successful. Therefore it would be completely stock again.
