Hey guys,
So I bought a new LG g3 32gb D855 few days ago and rooted it then few days later noticed that it somehow
has 2gb ram (1840mb) instead of 3gb as should be in 32gb version (BTW somebody else have this issue??)
Long story short because it was rooted device the warranty was not valid anymore so in order to unroot it
I download a suitable .KDZ file from
csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/auth_model_check2.jsp?esn=[YOUR_IMEI]
and followed this guide(tnx hyelton!)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089
I was able to successfully unrooting the device BUT in the LG hidden menu (3845#*855#)
in the LG RCT it was saying it was rooted (and had a date stamp)
I was looking all over for away to reset the RCT but without any luck and then I saw this thread (tnx somboons!)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715114
Where he was able to reset his RCT (ON A G2!) by editing the /persist/rct.cfg file and replacing the /persist/rct file
since I didn't had my original /persist/rct file I DIDN'T took the risk and didn't tried it.
Then I was lucky enough to run into this thread (tnx k0nane!)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41136026&postcount=2
explaining exactly how LG's RCT is working
basically after reading it I understood that RCT flag our rom as rooted if it finds one or more of these files
/system/[bin,sbin,xbin]/su
/sbin/su
/data/local/tmp/su
/system/app/[s,S]uper[u,U]ser.apk,
/data/data/com.noshufou.android.su
/data/local/tmp/[s,S]uper[u,U]ser.apk
/system/[bin,xbin]/busybox
/data/local/tmp/busybox
Click to collapse
right after the first boot after reflashing your device (and then it also stamp that date in the rct.cfg)
Realizing that one of these files are still exist on the device the solution was to find and delete them!
my RCT display result was
Rooted
Rooting related file had been installed.
>busybox
Click to collapse
(soz don't have a screenshot)
So basically what I did is connecting my G3 to my PC and starting to search what and where are the exact files
causing my device to be flagged as"rooted"
I discovered that the only file that exists from the list above is
/data/local/tmp/busybox
Click to collapse
then I was able to delete it with the following command
adb shell rm -r /data/local/tmp/busybox
Click to collapse
after it was successfully deleted I reflashed the device again and WHOLA! it was fully unrooted!

}
As I was expecting at the first boot after reflashing it was unable to find any of the "root relating" files and because of that it didn't flagged it as "rooted".
Hope I could help someone
Thank you very much for that, I didn't even know LG had such counter. Now, I am surprised you say your warranty was void after rooting your device. Do you know it for a fact, or is it an assumption ? I live in Europe, and unless proven otherwise any hardware related issue should be covered by the legal warranty (2 years here), unless LG thinks that your rooting of the device may have led to the issue, of course.
I just flashed a new rom and it showed not rooted. via LG flash tool.
Lucky u ☺ in my case some busybox files left in the system after reflashing ?
When you were unrooting, did you use Normal or CSE flash?
Normal. I preferred to find a solution before trying CSE flash
good job.
thanks.
Edit: this was really helpful I'm unrooting my G3 when I get home so I can post it up for sale. Now time to root my F460

I'll also give that a try, I'm not new to bricking my phone, but I'd rather avoid it if I can. It's usually a pain to fix, but I'd rather risk a brick and be able to root than have no root.
So does this open for if one is rooted but want to flash a new OTA just to unroot via Superuser then execute command in OP to delete restovers... this would enable device to accept OTA without the known error?
I followed this guide to unroot to install new OTA software and worked fine, before this I had the same issues in the hidden menu, but followed this and all was fine

With Super Su it takes just a 5 second to unroot.
Yes! Exactly what I needed because all those super smart store reps know exactly where to look to find that I've rooted my devices.

Sorry to bump and old thread but it seemed better to post here than start another on the same topic. I have a problem with the camera on my 16gb D855 and need to return it for repair. Phone has previously been rooted but now restored to stock via a kdz with LG flash tool and the LG RCT shows the following under the display result option "Official [g3:LGD8552504204a:5.06]" Is anyone able to interpret if this is showing that the phone has been rooted or not? Thanks for any help.

My wife got me a brand new A500 off ebay a couple of months ago for a Christmas gift(for me it's only three days old). So far I love it but it will not take the OTA update that it keeps bugging me about. The download starts fine but then stalls out mid download. I looked here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878 but did not see my current version there. Can anyone point me in the direction of the OTA I need to download and flash with recovery? My build is Acer_a500_1.145.09_com_gen1 I'm running 3.0.1. It looks like it's trying to download 4.010.11.
Further info:
According to the log the file name is Acer_A500_1.145.09_4.010.11_com_gen1_1311243587838_bd1ab95c.zip
I can't find that file anywhere on the net.
The reason I would suspect is because someone replaced the stock recovery? Off eBay you say, was it brand new and never used? It sounds like it was used or someone tampered with it?
If that's not the case, then you can just install the update manually. Download the update you want and put it on your external SDCard and then enter recovery (using power and volume). The recovery will install the update for you.

It said it was brand new. My wife would not buy something like this used. The weird thing is it knows it has an update and it starts to download and get's up to half way downloaded and then it just stops. It shows that it still is pulling data but the downloaded file size doesn't increase anymore after it stalls.
Ive been looking into rooting it and since I'm on 3.0.1 it appears Gingerbreak is all I need. The next question is what rom should I get and how do I go about installing it? I've never rooted droid before and most instructions on XDA are written for the experienced level and not the new guy. I'd like to stay fairly stock but rooted.

Just to make sure I'm getting it right: I go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20680452 download that to my PC and follow the instructions contained within and I end up with a stock rooted 3.2.1? I don't need to download anything else right? A soft reset for this tab is pusing the little red button on the end by the USB port?

Yes, if you want to flash 3.2.1 stock with root read the instructions in the download. The download has everything in it.
The soft reset everyone talks about is using the paperclip in that little hole next to the USB port.

Download and Install LG United Mobile Driver
Download and Install LG Mobile Support Tool
Boot your phone into download mode:
Put your G2 into download mode by switching it off, hold the Volume up button and insert the usb cable into the phone; wait for the drivers to finish loading if doing it for the first time.
Start the LG Mobile Support Tool and click on Options -> Upgrade Recovery

It should now download the firmware (about 2gb) and flash it - this may take some time.
This is needed if you stuck in a bootloop after the flash is done:
Factory reset (this wipe your data and sdcard):
1. Turn the phone off.
2. Press and hold the Power and Volume down button.
3. When the LG logo pops up let go for a second and press the combo again.
4. You'll be prompted to press the Power button 3 times to wipe the device.
I would hate to have to use this, but wow what a good find. Thanks for contributing.

I know it does'nt wipe data, but it reflashes recovery, and in my case something went wrong. But Lg DO sell D802 as a 16 gb model!
Can anyone using this method please post results. Just wondering if there is more success with this method as opposed to the other method. Thanks.

I don't understand how could this be, you downloaded the specific firmware for your device (using your serial number)...
Can't you just try to flash it again ?

Which password exactly ? when ? in the process of flashing ? the OP mentions no stage in which you need to give password...
What are you going to do now ? your device is not rooted, so you can replace it under warranty, no ?

It did not say what the password was for, just asked for it. It came up after the phone had booted, but before i could see the lockscreen. I will wait a couple of weeks, to check if someone else gets the same problem, or if it is fixable. Otherwise i will hand it in on the warranty since there are not traces of root.

Why should a password appear at that stage ???
If you went through all of the flash process successfully, booted successfully and only then did a factory reset (when you saw that password), I see no reason to blame the factory reset that you did. This is something to do with the flash process. Maybe this is kind of a punishment that LG unleash on those who use this process ? seriously, why on earth would anyone try to flash his LG2, if it wasn't to get rid of root ? I also don't understand how the password went away after you did hard-reset, since the device was "hard-reset" when you did that flash. You said that you re-flashed about 5 times, did that password appear after each of those 5 times ?

Same issue here.
I also got the question after I used the software to enter my encryptionkey. Wich I didnt have.
So I had to hardreset from the recoverymenu (volume down + pwr), then I suddenly had 10.77GB left instead of 26.77GB or something similar.
Annoys me pretty darn much at the time beeing!
I did use my IMEI, not my serialnumber and model. I'll try to use the serial and model this time around, and see if there are any differences at all in doing so.
And yes, it does say 32GB on the back. So we're not mistaken it for a 16GB-model
And it does say that the model is the 32GB when I check the hardware-info on the android itself.
Maybe this has something to do with me using the adbcommand for mounting storage incorrectly?
I thought however it would be reset when I used the LG Mobile Support Tool to hardreset everything though.
Will this work with the AT&T model D800?
Also does this remove all traces of root to the point where you get your warranty back?
what was the solution to this...
Does this work with the TMO versions?
The windows application keeps getting a Windows error and closing shortly after the process begins. Any tips?
I would prob stay away from this if i was anyone else....Because it must be messing people phones up and changing the storage capacity

For the life of me, I simply can't find the kdz for international D802 (I have an Australian D802 that bricked just before). Do we have a kdz somewhere to get, or do we do something else? Many many thanks for any help! (It's driving me insane, I couldn't get sleep last night, insomnia from chronic pain and from a simple ROM update of the ROM I nomally use, I got the fastboot default boot screen brick. Not a good time to get bricked, friend sms'ing me to pop over, he doesn't use the phone, just sms, so I can't let him know I'm home LOL
Here's what I found that has firmwares for Australian and other G2 variants http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=36
I'd just use the Open version of the ROM. But you can also do an IMEI check on LG's site and see which ROM version is the latest for your specific phone, download the .kdz and flash it.
my g2 was boot looping after flashing PA rom. so i went to download mode to go back to stock and I had the problem where it freezes at 49%. I uninstall the modem as per your method and tried to flash stock again. however the same thing happened again. can i get some help? thanks

I do NOT have an unlocked bootloader, however when I set up my phone (H815 USA) google auto installed my apps from my Note 4.
It was rooted and google auto installed my root related apps.
One of which was superuser.

Looks like it will log any installation of superuser or superSU.
Because it now says "Modified" in the results, my thoughts are that LG could if they were total dicks, void your warranty.
Again, I do not have an unlocked bootloader and do not have root.
This is a false recording of a modified status by LG's service menu checks.
Nice find. Its interesting to see LG do that because to my knowledge HTC doesn't do anything like that. Having said that it is known that if we root our phones we are using some exploit and thereby voiding the warranty ourselves, it is just LG trying to keep dishonest people honest in my opinion.

I do not mind them recording if my phone is actually modified.
As in, I actually unlocked the bootloader and installed a root app and or custom ROM / recovery.
However in this case it is calling an unsuccessful installation of just a root app a modified state.
This could be bad for many many people who have already bought this phone and never intended to even attempt to root or unlock it.
If they have google restore apps from an older phone when they upgrade, and the old phone was rooted, now the G4 is considered "Modified" and out of warranty.

I have never been asked or given a choice which apps I would like to install on the new device from old devices. Google just starts installing them upon logging in. I usually have to stop the auto install and go through the list and pick.

There is a drop box on the installed Apps ...you choose which Apps to install check or uncheck the box ..attached pic is an example:
Sent from my LG G4 H815 US 4G LTE
Not only LG RCT check, but LG has also added "bootloader unlocked" check test in the hidden menu.
My Verizon LG G4 came out of the box with the "Modified" tag in settings. Lots of people are reporting it.
Not sure if Verizon had to root each one to install their system level apps, then had a failure at cleaning it up... or what?
I wanted to see if mine did the same thing but when I do the 277634#*# nothing happens on the device....weird.

I just got one of the new Straight Talk Grand Prime variants from Walmart. I can't find ANYTHING on the model (SM-S920L) AT ALL. Anyone else get this model? I'm desperately seeking the stock recovery.tar for this phone as i attempted to flash a CWM recovery without backing up the stock firmware. Needless to say this didn't work and i was left with "recovery is not Seandroid enforcing"., when i attempt to boot into recovery.
HELP!!!!!

That's odd...Kingroot worked like a charm for me as well. Do u have super su installed?
I think you're right. I think it has to be the newest version of King Root that doesn't use the kinguser app anymore(version 4.6.2). Oh! And I've submitted the files needed to fashion a custom recovery but haven't heard back yet. I will keep u guys posted.

Finally, something is beginning to Surface on this model. Can you by chance upload the pit file? I bricked while I ventured into the unknown....every flash attempt fails....can't even do smart switched recovery. Hell, this model isn't even in Samsung's database.

is this what your looking for? I know what u mean about not being able to find anything. I'd imagine its because the manufacture date is 6/15. This variant is still very new. I'm willing to do whatever i can to help get the ball rolling though.
Regards

Thanks for that! Except now I need a stock rom. I'm going to look into that one. Sounds like a task....I just want to get this puppy to work again.
Grand Prime sm-s920L
I am stuck in recovery mode and I have taken the battery out for a few and stick it back in and still stuck in recovery mode. How can I get out of this?
Same boat, but I am stuck in Odin mode. Made the mistake of trying to flash TWRP on it. Cannot find a the right one to reflash the ROM. I see many for other versions, but not ours.
Their isn't a custom recovery for this particular LTE version, I've seen one individual say.he got it to work with TWRP but he has to be bull****ting...their is the stock rom already posted to the forums tho if you can get it to were your able to flash it...I see that CWM has its own custom recovery builder on their site now I was wondering if that would actual work???

SM-S920L Rooted
Hello, i got my device to take ROOT in about an hour.
Here is the list of programs i used:
~Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones for Windows
~SuperSU apk v2.46
~Superuser apk v3.1.3
~One Click Root for Windows
~Kingo Root for Windows
~KingRoot for Windows
~Root Check apk
step 1. run as administrator: SamsungUSBDriver.exe (Windows)
step 2. Install Superuser.apk v3.1.3 (Android) does not require ROOT
step 3. run as administrator: One Click Root.exe (Windows) ROOT Will Fail
step 4. run as administrator: Kingo Root.exe (Windows) Root Will Fail
Step 5. run as administrator: Kingroot.exe (Windows) Device ROOTED
Step 6. Install SuperSU apk v2.46 (Android) Update Binary Normal
Step 7. Enjoy
That is an unnecessarily convoluted path to rooting this device. KingRoot apk v4.5.0 can literally root this phone is less than 5 minutes and SuperSU-ME Pro can replace KingRoot in a further 5 minutes.
Wonder if there's actually anyone making progress towards obtaining the Rom for this model.
Doubtful. There is zero interest in this variant.
Gahhh nooo, dont say that. Here's hoping an anon comes and saves the day sometime soon.
