[Q] Email security bypass? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I have one of the first AT&T S4s with the MDL so I don't have to use SS. I came from the S2 and always loved the SHOstock ROM on that device so I put the AT&T version of SHOstock for the S4 on the day I got it...but I have been having some intermittent issues so I decided to try the international version of his ROM...and I am really liking it. Except for one issue: despite having "sec email bypass" on the feature list when I setup my work email it requires me to set a PIN. Thinking this may have been an issue with the download or the install I redownloaded, checked MD5, wiped everything, reinstalled...and still required me to set a PIN when I setup my work email. I posted on the ROM thread but nobody has been able to answer if the issue is just me or if maybe the security bypass does not work for anyone.
I believe his international SHOstock version is currently on Android 4.4.2. Does anyone have a flashable ZIP to replace my email app with one that will allow the security bypass or is there a 3rd party app that would allow this?
If not can anyone recommend a good fast/stable ROM that has this feature?

I use the xposed framework with modules for exchange bypass. You can get it here, but be sure to read all the instructions if you haven't worked with it before: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/xposed-installer-versions-changelog-t2714053
Once you have it, there are a number of modules you could try. Wanam Xposed (http://repo.xposed.info/module/ma.wanam.xposed) worked for me when I was on GoldenEye--a touchwiz-based ROM like SHOstock. Now that I have the 4.4.4 GPE SS ROM, I'm using http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.shantz.exchangebypass.
For either of those, clear all your account info from the exchange app, install the module and reboot to activate it, and then set up your account as you normally would.
Enjoy your MDL S4. Super jealous.

International Roms on I337 (with Loki Kernel)

I had seen a post earlier that our Northern Brothers (I337M) had flashed International Roms on their phones with good success - (Kevin36 - has a post here for I337M phones) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2285059
I got brave and thought I would try on the I337 Variant - and it works as long as you flash a kernel with Loki -
The Rom I flashed can be found here (WanamLite) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283194
Immediately after flashing I flashed a TW Kernel (KTweaker with Loki) but I understand the Faux Kernel works too.
I did have a strange issue - but I don't know if it was the ROM or TWRP - after flashing - and when I tried to reboot - An error message said I did not have Superuser installed) I had seen this happen before - so when it asked me if I wanted to install SU - I said no and continued to reboot.
It booted up fine - but when I tried to run Titanium Backup - I got another NO Super User message - I checked my app drawer and I had SuperUser installed there - but when I opened it said the binary was out of date - I tried to update it and it failed -
I actually wasn't sure what to do - so I tried running the Motochopper Exploit = thinking that I needed to reinstall ROOT - it went thru the steps but when It finised, it said I was already rooted -
I went back tot he phone - rebooted - and everything was fine.
SO - I think the International versions will work just fine on our phones - but there is something spooky going on with TWRP that is causing ROOT to get lost during flashes or restores - it doesn't always happen - just sometimes - kind of strange
Bottom line - I am glad to have more roms to play with - and hope we can get a more stable environment soon - I wonder if anyone else has had this issue with 'no Root" when using TWRP - and if so, what is the correct course of action when it happens?
Ive had it and the correct course of action is to have it install it again.

Id like to know to. That rom looks awesome.
I installed WanamLite and everything went smooth as far as installation and booting. But every now and then I get a pop up asking saying" Device needs to reboot, reboot now or later" If i press reboot now it takes me to recovery.
Any ideas whats triggering that or how can I turn it off?
Do we really need a new thread every time someone tries a ROM that works? Does nobody realize that it's all the same hardware??

any particular files I Should be looking to remove?
What happened. I remember back on the GS3 we couldn't flash roms from the international version because the proccesors were different. Has something changed?

I believe the i9505 is the "international" version of the Snapdragon 600 cpu.
for those of you using wanam rom when you open the camera do you get a message saying camera firmware updating. Please wait... ?

I read in another thread that you can delete the KNOX file to get rid of that - (I froze it with TB and that seemed to do the trick)

I had that too for a little = but it stopped - may have happened when I froze KNOX but I am not sure if that was the reason it stopped.

Talking about the OMEGA ROM for I9505 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2253528some people using I337M said they flashed this and it was a little wonky - some problems with WIFI apparently - but they said this was fixed by flashing twice or something -

I Saw two files that seem to be Knox releated - not sure If you need to delete both of them or not - I froze them in Titanium Backup - one is "Knox Store" - and the other is "Samsung Knox"
I simply froze it in case it turned out I needed it for something later -

I'm running it right now. I believe it requires a different baseband version than we have on our i337's but can't say for sure. I used the auto loki feature of OUDHS Recovery to flash Omega v3.0 for i9505 w/ it's included kernel.
Everything seemed to work ok with the exception of wifi and lte. wifi wouldn't enable and there was no apn for lte. I then rebooted into recovery and flashed KT's TW Kernel for our i337 (lokified). When i rebooted, wifi was back up, but not LTE. I had to manually add the pta APN settings, but after that LTE was back.and everything seems to run ok. It's only been an hour though so it's hardly a long term test.
Notice the model number in the pic below is GT-i9505 while the baseband version is still I337UCUAMDL (our i337) and the Build Number is Omega v3.0 XXUAME2.

The issues you mention are similar to what guys using the I337m experienced - several of them said doing multiple flashes seemed to work - have you tried flashing it a second or thrd time (dirty flash)?
Also, can you explain the "Auto Loki Feature of OUDHS Recovery" that you mentioned? if there are steps I need to follow to do that - simple -easy to follow - non technical language type steps - ? lol - I am adventurous - and I can figure stuff out - but I am not a dev and need things to be explained to get them - if you know what I mean -

i just installed omega with the faux loki kernel, set my apn and this rom is the best ive used. tons of options and super fast. i think i found my new rom until aosp is more stable.
i was able to freeze Knox so the error messaage is gone now. WanamLite running super smooth including wifi and lte everything seems to work just fine. One thing I noticed is that call volume is lower now. But at in all excellent alternative to att bloat Rom.

Installing updated mail app

So the long story short is that I rooted my phone right when it came out, on the old firmware. This means my phone is 'unofficial' and won't accept ota updates. I've tried all the guides and advise on posts to make it official but Nothing worked. Oh well. I really just wanted to update to mf3 strictly for the mail app which now has push.
Anyone have a copy of the stock app. Can I just replace the apk on my phone or something?

If you have an older firmware version such as MDB or MDL, you should thank your lucky stars. You do NOT want MF3! If you update to MF3 then you will loose the ability to install custom ROMs (except for using tricks like SafeStrap) because the bootloader in MF3 is locked down tight.
If you are currently on MDB or MDL, I recommend that you install a custom ROM immediately to ensure that you don't automatically get updated to MF3. Assuming that you have an AT7T i337 ...
If you don't yet have a custom recovery installed, you can use CASUAL to install one easily:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297900
Once your custom recovery is installed, then you can install this ROM to get a significantly improved version of MF3. Install the older version 2.5 for now for full functionality, since version 3.0 is a "preview" release of Android 4.3. This will update all your apps to the MF3 versions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2280556
Good luck.
Thanks for the advice,
While I love playing around with the phone and customizing as much as possible, I refuse to use custom roms. At the end of the day I don't want to compromise reliability at all. All the custom roms are cool, but there's a reason they usually get nightly updates (bugs).
I don't have to worry about my phone auto updating.... I edited that one system file that disables the update system.
I really like the way my phone e is now, so I don't want to 'flash' it and have to reload and re customize everything... My wife has mf3 and looks like the only improvement is the mail app. Hence why I'm looking for a plug and play solution

Well I just installed the kitkat mail app and unfortunately it doesn't have push! That'd the reason I needed to updated my mail up. So back to looking into Joe to get the mf3 mail app on my phone
which mail are you using that push isn't an option? the stock mail app on MDL can receive push email... its likely your mail provider doesn't support it.
Gmail....
My wife's mf3 has settings for push, mine only has the 'check every X minutes' in the settings

The MDOB rom is not like that. Ver 2.5 is based on the stock MF3 firmware and stock kernel. You would not be compromising reliability by using that rom. It is stable and does not need frequent updates. You'd be getting all the features and benefits of MF3 without the Samsung and AT&T bloat and restrictions.
Here's the, to my knowledge, stock SecEmail_J.apk and SecExchange.apk pulled from my MF3 device. Their permissions are rw-r--r-- by the way. Not sure if they are what your looking for... but I figured I'd toss them up anyway just in case.

It depends, it probably wouldn't harm your device assuming your rooted and have a means of replacing system apps. Use Root Browser, or something like it to backup your existing APK's in /system/apps/ and copy these ones over and overwrite. Worse that may happen is your lose app access until you restore yours.

Not all my emails are Gmail and I don't want to have to use multiple apps
Well I just tried overwriting mine and it didnt work. After a restart, the icon appears for the new app but when I click on it it just hangs on a white screen and then says the program has stopped. I'm guessing that the '.odex' files for the apps have something to do with this. Anyone have any idea what I could do to get this working?
Do I need the .odex files from you as well?
So actually, I just deletedt he .odex files and restarted. The program works now. HOWEVER, its very strange. I do not see any difference between this new one and my old one!
The icon on this one is different, which is strange considering the icon on my wifes is the asme as my old one. The program version is '4.2' which is the same as my wifes. However when I go to settings for my wifes and setting on my 'new' one, my new one is the same as my old one and my wifes is a completely different layout!
One last thing... I realized that even my old email and exchange files are the same version number as the newest. Whats the deal here? It is a different file that controls the email and email settings?

[Q] stock + towelroot + xposed... what about ota updates ?

Hi,
Sorry if this has been asked before, search didn't answer the question for my specific case....
I have an S5 G900F currently still on 4.4.2, I have rooted using towelroot following link below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/tut-root-tripping-knox-t2803951
I installed also xposed framework and a bunch of modules to get rid of those pesky popups samsung implemented.
I would like to check for and install new ota updates, question is what will happen with the setup above?
Will it work, will I lose root, will I lose all xposed modules and settings, will it brick my phone, ...
Thanks!
B
Seems that everyone says that they have searched although we know that most people really didn't. Glad you tried searching, although it's difficult to understand how you didn't trip over numerous threads where your exact questions have been asked and answered before.
Anyway, most updates will remove root and may mess up a lot of apps that require root. It's best to apply updates manually with Odin, rather than accept them OTA. If you insist on automatic updates, then you should buy an app like mobile odin pro or super su pro that will try to regain root after an update is applied.

Had a lot of problems with xposed and it's modules messing with some samsung apps, for example s-health went mental, wouldn't open and slowed the phone down to a crawl, as I own the gear fit it wasn't good for me to keep it on, had to roll back, personally I don't think theres a huge difference between the two firmwares, i'd say if you're happy then keep your phone the way it is. At least until 4.4.4. is releaed.

Unfortunately, Airdroid has stopped.
Since, I fear that part of this issue may be related to this rom, I was wondering if you guys knew why the newest version of airdroid was failing at login/startup of the app. I receive the error message "Unfortunately, Airdroid has stopped" every time I attempt to open it. Is anyone else having that problem? And if so, did you find a solution?

SELinux is set to permissive. It's only been since the new update that I've been having problems. I've tried restarting the phone and deleting and reinstalling the app, but nothing has fixed it with that minimalistic troubleshooting. If you can tell me how to troubleshoot it further, I'm definitely willing to give it a try.

Hi,
I have AT&T Stock ROM, rooted and unlocked. Managed to install Safeatrap 3.71. How do I install a Custom ROM? All the files of the size around 300-400mb I have tried to install does boot, just loops after installing in Safestrap.

Hello, great work on the ROM! I'm running Verizon NC5 with safestrap, everything works as mentioned. I haven't read if the IR is functional for running smart ON or any other TV remote. It doesn't seem to work for me since I flashed this ROM but did on others. Either way I'm staying put, just wondered. thanks for your time.
Lollipop
AT&T just pushed out the OTA update for the galaxy s4. does that mean you will be releasing the lollipop version of this rom anytime soon

Is there a Lollipop ROM that works with Xposed? Getting confused.

I'm having trouble figuring out what to do. I have been reading for days about locked bootloader this, and ATT sucks that, and everything is hopeless.
Right now my AT&T i337 is on Rooted 5.0.1 OK2 Keep Root DEODEXED with Xposed Framework. I followed this thread to do it. I don't have an external SD card, but everything installed smoothly. It's been great but it has a bunch of issues.
PROBLEMS:
Gmail contacts only synced when account was first added to the phone (massive problem/unacceptable). I have flashed this ROM several times and each time it was exactly the same. I have found no fix for it.
Can't use snapchat because Xposed framework can't be easily uninstalled and reinstalled on this particular ROM.
Wifi turns on and off randomly and often.
I am looking for a ROM that is Lollipop 5.0.1 or greater, DEODEXED so that I can use Xposed Framework, and doesn't have contact sync issues. Can I use Goldeneye or LolliRom 9? All of the installation threads mention using TWRP and SafeStrap, which I thought I couldn't use because of my locked bootloader. I have used flashfire up to this point with great success and would prefer to keep using it because I know it. Can I install these ROMS using just flash fire/odin?
Can anyone please help guide me in the right direction? Thank you!
MODS, please delete this message. I think I figure all of this out.
