Hi,
I have some photos on my phone that were not taken with my S5 and am finding that when I go to view them with the Gallery app that it is adjusting the color (and not in a good way). The app will momentarily show the proper color when opening the pic and closing it but will kind of whiten it when viewing. The pics look normal using quickpic and the google photos app. Just wondering if anyone else has this happening and if there is any way of turning it off before I try clearing the data for the Gallery app etc.
Thanks!

Hello,
It's not actually modifying the photo, it is using a Samsung technology to change the colors being displayed on the screen only. You can change your preference (but it appears not shut it off) by going into your Settings, then Display, then 'Screen mode'. But again, your photos aren't modified.

Thanks for your help. I did realize that it wasn't actually modifying the photos, I just really didn't like how it made the pictures look. You were totally right with your solution, I changed the display mode to Standard and it works properly now. I was using Adapt Display because I wanted the best sunlight legibility/brightness possible and everything had looked great until I noticed this issue. Thanks!

for the life of me I can't figure this out. I'm trying to set a wallpaper from one of the many ones I nabbed from mobile9, however no matter the image, I'm forced to use a cropping box to select the wallpaper which never selects the whole image.
Can you set an image noncropped as wallpaper on the Nexus One? It's silly to ask, but it's been bugging me and I can't find anything on it.
Have you tried using the wallpaper set & save app? I know it works on G1's, but I've yet to try it on a Nexus since mine is due to arrive later today.
Resize your images to 960x800.
I tried the app and same deal. batch resized them all with irfanview Some look kinda weird, but I guess it will have to do. thanks.

Sadly, there is no way, as far as I know... I tried several different approaches, from going to the pic in the gallery to several others.
The reason for the croping is that the box keeps the proportions right so it covers the entire homescreen... so if the photo is too wide it kinda sucks, to say the least.
IIRC, there is a program that does some good work, but I haven't checked into it much.
Are you sure about the always forced cropping?
When I select a picture in the gallery (for example taken with the camera), More, Set as , Wallpaper I also get a 'default crop' but if you touch the orange crop border you can enlarge it to use more of the picture (you may get some cropping vertically or horisontally if the proportions aren't correct).

That would still be croping the photo.
There is an app called Wallpaper Plus on the market that allows for a non-cropped image, and when it sets it the background becomes stationary. It's $1.99.
Although with my experience using the app, it still requires some cropping on images on the horizontal axis. But for images that are close up and you only want a vertical version it does not require cropping and fills the entire screen with a non-shifting image.
Wallpaper Set & Save. free and it does just want you want.

Yes, but if your image is 960x800 then you can get the orange box to cover the whole image. Just tried it after having this problem my self. kind of hard to figure this out with no help looove xda
so here's an interesting thing that I noticed.. all of my pictures are rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise. Everything shows up on the phone (in the gallery app) and in google+ correctly (which is why it took me a while to realize this issue), but when I look at the actual jpgs, they are all rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise. Have you guys seen this before? How do I fix it?
original camera app?
auto screen orientation turned on?
original camera app (one built in to the n7100), screen orientation turned off. I prefer to use portrait mode for pictures.. and the pictures are always 90 degrees to the "right". what's funny is that picasa shows the pictures correctly. but windows photo viewer isn't, and file preview in windows isn't. when i export them to a non google service (such as QQ, a popular chinese instant messaging app), it's also showing up as rotated.
any ideas?

if u turn off the auto screen orientation, how can the note2 knows you want portrait or landscape.......
it's strange but google+, picasa somehow figures it out correctly.. *shrug* i'll try w/ the auto screen orientation on and see if that does it.

I thought this was a bug in android I found most of my pictures come out the correct way round as in the way I took them but occasionally the odd one will be rotated 90 degrees. This also used to happen with my note 1.

if you go in to the original stock camera app, if you click the cog on the top left, scroll down, there's a setting which says 'save as flipped'
if you click it, it should stop that from happening.
I always thought that was for the front camera

This option is disabled for me on my camera when I have the phone in landscape... And my photos are still flipped.
Well, I suppose I'm not the first, but still I hope this is fixed. There are parts of system especially menus and gradients which are rendered terribly. This is a software bug, since everywhere else, colours are rendered fine. I have screenshots attached. Is there a fix for this? Thanks

You are really complaining about the color of icons on system menus?

no, if you look closely at the grey background on system menus you will notice it isnt a flat or evenly graded colour, down the middle is a line, the best way i can think of to describe it is its like an oil spot on a dark shirt, its not always noticeable but its there.
Exactly, thanks!

Seconded! And I was beginnig to think there was something wrong with my device. Yesterday I noticed a slight discoloration when looking closely at the popu menu backgrounds (like the one when you attempt to install a downloaded apk file). It appears in the right part of the box. It looks a bit like a hand, a splash of liquid but with sharp edges. When I rotate the screen horizontally the shape keeps being rendered in the same part of the menu and retains its shape. Curiously enough when I examined menus in other parts of the OS the pattern was different, more blockish. I think it will be hard to photograph so check your tablets guys. The screen on my device is otherwise fine so it must be software related.
I don't recognize what menu you are on, but on mine settings/apps shows no background blur like that. Manual lighting, 50 percent.

For anyone willing to take a look, below are ID's for images uploaded to imgur.com (because of low postcount I cannot post direct links) - a screenshot of the install dialogue and one of the screen brightness.

It's export menu in dropbox. In that link, it was shot in I think, notification ringtone menu.
Good to see Google is fixing it.

No fair blaming Google for an app problem. There are a million ways Dropbox could have messed that up.
Can you give me an instance that only involves Google apps? Like maybe in Google drive?

Any system dialog box. Go to settings and set a "notification tone" in the dialog box where you select the sound you can see horrible artifacts that look like dark gray mountains
That and set any gray gradient as a wallpaper and you'll see horrible banding

OK... I went to Settings / Sound / Default Notification.
Then it gives me a choice of apps to use to browse to a sound. I chose Media Storage (the only Google one).
Now I have a list of tones and checkboxes, with a gray background. Brightness manual, 50%.
Holding the screen straight on, and tilting to look straight across I see no gradient or artifacts at any angle. Amazing off-axis range...
Anything else I can try, or is my device just "different"?
I have those gradients too, funny its not reproducible on all devices

Stock 4.2.
Not currently rooted - root makes multi-user unusable for me. Root Manager has it "temporarily unrooted".
I don't have a gradient background to try. That notifications panel is an even gray. No gradient.
Bump up the brightness to 100% you will surely see it if it is there. I just updated to 4.2.1 and it is still here. This update in fact broke my Android Beam, I can no longer send images from my Nexus S to Nexus 7 like I could on 4.2

Hi,
right out of the box the camera didn't process light correctly: see attachment.
I read about the wifi camera issues, but i haven't been using wifi, and the discoloration is more than awful. This is supposed to be a sunset in the background.
Any suggestions/ideas?
Thanks in advance!
OOB the camera app sucks! I changed to another and never looked back. I also found that, depending on which photo viewer I used, I would see lines. Try another app and different settings.
Hi guys!
I have been trying to set home and lock screen wallpapers without having to crop them, I want to use full images.
I tried using many apps - stock gallery, google photos app, picspeed, many ' pic2wallpaper' type of apps from play store..but none of them seems to work with our beloved note 4.
I have some 2K and 4K images that I want to use as wallpaper. But even the default images provided by samsung are cropped when selected as wallpaper.
Is there any other app that would autoscale the wallpapers to fit fullscreen, or maybe a specific size that we can manually resize the image to get the perfect fit without cropping(and the tool to be used to resize the image, if any)?
I am sure you awesome people here have already tried sorting this out
Thanks a ton!
Anyone?
Photo Grid
This may take several steps, but I am satisfied with my lockscreen now lol.
Download/open Photo Grid from the Play Store
Select Scrapbook (This will only work in Scrapbook mode)
Find the picture you want (You have to save the picture somewhere first if it's not in your camera roll)
Touch the picture. Then, in the lower right corner there will be an arrow going in a circle and it's blue. Hold down the little blue circle to stretch the picture out as tall or as wide as you like.
You will still be able to see some of the background, so touch the background and click on the Background button in the lower left corner. Select background of your choice.
Select Ratio at the bottom. Then, select the ratio 3:5 or smaller if you like.
Touch the picture again and resize with the blue arrow if you wish.
Then, hit save in the upper right corner.
I just thought of this, so I'm sure there may be an easier way. Let me know if this works for you, if you have already tried it or have found an easier solution.
