[Q] DTMF tones - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way to adjust the length of the DTMF tones? My security door at home uses the tone from my keypad to function, like a touchtone system. But Im being told that the tone my phone puts out is too short to trigger the unlock device on the door. Ive seen where other phones can adjust the length of the tone but I can't find any way to do it on the S5. Any ideas?

Phone/settings/calls, scroll down to dtmf tones.

I dont have that as an option. I have:
Call rejection
Answering and ending calls
Call notification pop ups
In-call status pop-up
Show caller information
Call alerts
Call accessories
Additional settings
Ringtone and keypad tones
Personalize call sound
Noise reduction
Voicemail service
Voicemail settings
Sound
Vibrate
Ive gone through each one of the sub menus available and there is no mention of DTMF tones anywhere.
Oh and I have a stock Galaxy S5 with AT&T running android version 4.4.2

Seems odd that you wouldn't have a basic Kitkat setting like this. Another victory for ATT. It is there on my 900T.
Anyway, install a DTMF app then which will let you adjust the tone length e.g DTMF dialer
.

Very strange. That seems like an option every phone should have.

Yeah, just about every other phone I know of gives you the option to change it. Thanks AT&T!!
Ive tried a couple of DTMF dialers with no luck yet. Ill keep messing with them to see if I can get one to work on my security door.

The app that I suggested has an adjustable period.
Ensure that you set the duration to long or specify a period. A short DTMF burst is ~ 40 ms. A long burst is ~ 100 ms, although some equipment may be happier with very long tone bursts on the order of 250 ms.

So does this app just work by playing the tones over the speaker into another phone, or does it play the tone into my S5? Basically my security door works where you press my code on the keypad and it rings my phone (my S5). I answer the call and press 9 on the keypad and it sends the tone to the security door and unlocks it. The tone that my phone puts out now is apparently too short for the security door to pick up and wont trigger the unlock. Will this app work where I can answer the call from the security door and then press 9 then play on the app and it trigger the door? Im hoping so!

Go into your Dialer like you're going to make a phone call, type ##3282# and go to Edit in the menu that pops up. DTMF is towards the bottom. You can select short / long in there.

I tried this and the only thing that pops up is "USSD and then my phone number". No menus or anything. Just a button to hit OK.

Do you have the modified hiddenmenu? If not you need your msl number to get to the edit menu.

I dont know anything about the modified hidden menu so I assume I don't have it. Would I need root access for that? I dont have the MSL number either. I assume I get that from AT&T? Thanks!

Yes to, you would need root access. I had an app for gett8ng your msl. Look for it in the play store.

(Forgive me if I'm incorrect, the below instructions may only apply to those of us with Verizon phones, but this is how I enabled hidden menus on my phone)
1) go to /efs/carrier/HiddenMenu and change OFF to ON
2 ) Reboot your phone.
The ##3282# menu should work after that. Also, I did not need the MSL code (again, the Galaxy S5 is globally unlocked with Verizon) but should you need it (credit to metalfan78)

None of the MSL code utilities in the play store worked, so I'll try and go the root route to unlock my hidden menu. After I root, how would I go about unlocking my hidden menu?

Android_Secret_Code String Revealed!

Hell yes!
After a few hours trying to uncover the dialing code string for the Fascinate, I finally figured it out!
I've dug into *almost* all the AndroidManifest.xmls to compose a list of hidden menus you can gain access to.
I shouldn't have to say it, but I will..
I'm not responsible if you brick your phone.
Play with these things at your own risk.
Even if I said it's been tested by me and confirmed to work.
It's not my fault if your phone takes a crap on you.
Make a backup of your phone.
I will be doing some more testing and will uncover more hidden menus, but this is what I have for now..
Some members of another forum where having trouble using these codes and I've discovered that you need Hiddenmenu enabled. To enable Hiddenmenu, do the following:
Go into the Dialer and enter *#83786633 then press the Home key
Go back into the phone dialer and enter *#22745927
Now a box will come up asking for the SPC code. Enter 000000
Press the Hiddenmenu Enable radio button.
Now you can use these codes.
The dialing code string you have to use is *##
Here are some things you can gain access to
Audio Tuning
*#28346#
Several audio tuning menus.
I've only tested the two items below:
To silence boot and shutdown audio go to Situation/BOOTSOUND and turn the values to 0. I've tested and confirmed this works.
To silence the volume key audio when turning the volume up/down go to Situation/VOLUMEKEY and turn the values to 0. I've tested and confirmed this works.
Full Bat Popup
*#3844228#
This allows you to disable the full battery pop-up.
I have tested this and it works successfully.
HwCodec
*#0002*28346#
Audio path volume controls. Most importantly, it looks like there's a sidetone adjustment.
I have not tested any of these items yet.
Shutdown
*#7594#
This enables you to shut your phone off by long-pressing the power/lock key.
No more pop-up confirmation.
I have tested this and it works successfully.
I also need to point out that this disables your slide lock screen.
Diag/Testing Mode
*#4636*1111#
Does this allow us to change intricate GPS settings, ala the "GPS fixes" for the earlier Galaxy S models?
Or is that not an issue with the Fascinate?

This isn't working for me. Nothing happens after I do this.

You can gain access to a GPSSetup menu using this short code-
*#1472365#
The settings are set to the "fixed" values by default.
You don't need to change anything.
You can go into Command and then start GPS and force a satellite lock.
There's other cool info there too.

It looks like the message goes away, but the screen still turns on when the battery is full. I love how bright the screen is, but even at the lowest setting this phone can light up an entire room.
Thank you SO much for including the "disable battery full popup". That thing was annoying as HELL!
Bummer that it turns on the screen, still. Also, I agree that the screen is extremely bright, even with "night mode" in the Desk Cradle app. I'd like it if I could decrease the "minimum brightness" value even more, so I could use this phone + cradle as my alarm clock replacement.

[Q] Flash button for 3-way calling?

Okay, I'm rooted with the Negalite Aroma ROM. I rooted the second I got the GS4. Does the Stock OS come with a flash button to click over if you're on a 3-way call? I have no clue how to click over on this ROM.
(I don't have enough posts to reply in the Negalite thread, and I've search on these forums as well as Google)
Tap call icon and slide to the right to answer the call.
Tap call icon and slide to the right to answer the next call.
Tap Putting “Name/Number” on hold to put the first call on hold.
Join the first two callers into a single multi-party call by tapping Merge icon.
To temporarily leave the conference call, tap Hold icon. To rejoin the conference call tap Unhold icon.
Tap End call icon to end the call.
Try that and let me know how that works for you.
---------- Post added at 08:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:01 PM ----------
Ok.. Now I tried it I don't think that will work, but you can try it too. On stock there is a "add call" button from the screen when you're in a call. When you hit that button it opens up the dialer again. Then you are able to call another number, after that you just merge the calls together.
i have been desperately trying to find a solution to this.
this feature is available on AOSP based roms (and works) and it's also available on stock S4's from other carriers like T-mobile and ATT. Sprint is removing this feature for no reason.
Maybe it's possible to port the in call dialer from another carrier.
Go into Wanam and under the phone menu there is an option to restore the add call function.

[Q] Text Blocking

So I've been googling and searching and having trouble nailing down the answer.
Friend of mine has the Galaxy S5 through Verizon
Keeps receiving texts from somebody that she doesn't want to receive texts from.
I've been trying to locate how to block the incoming text. On my S4 I see where I can choose to add the contact to "spam number." I don't see this option on the S5. I looked at the blocking list, but this only blocks a phone call I'm assuming since I added the number and she is still receiving the texts. Anywho, I was going to look in the app store but was wondering if I can do it natively. Thanks for any help.

If it's not there, it's Verizon messing with the phone to make room for their bloatware. How the hell they get away with that I don't know.

Yea, I should have said that doesn't work. Nowhere is there an option to add to spam numbers. That's why I'm having so much trouble. You can't long press on the message. You can't menu into it. You can't go into applications/messaging/spam. Nothing. I'm baffled.

Verizon tends to remove a lot of features on their phones. Download booster is removed as well.
On my AT&T model using AT&T messages, you click the message, then menu (3 vert. dots). Then add click "add to contact"..."create new". then name it and save it. Within that same new contact, click the menu button at top right. There is an option to "add to reject list".
it may be similar on Verizon if it's not in the top level menu.

Maybe they do that, I'm not familiar with what they do though . I can only think of a reason they did that, maybe they are offering the spam/blocking as a network service for a fee.

Knowing Verizon, they probably do.
I had done this. But it only blocks the phone call. Not the text.
I'm assuming the same as one of the other guys here. I bet if I called Verizon they offer it as a fee. Which is a load of BS.
And yes, it is an S5.

Call/Message block setting enabled?
Hey guys, you can try this if you want:
You basically just need to add this to your CSC settings and it will enable a dedicated call/message blocking options in your settings.
This was posted for the Note 1 at the time but I tried it on my Note 3 and it works perfectly fine. I'm thinking it will work perfectly fine for your S5's.

[Q] Can I get rid of "Call in progress shortcut"?

I am wanted to rid of the small square "Call in progress shortcut" permanently. During a call, I know you can long press the square and it will give you the message "Hide the call in progress shortcut from your screen?" and it will remove it for that call. Is there not a way to make that never pop up again? It seems redundant to have that square at the top left corner of the screen, when all I have to do is swipe down to get to shortcuts to mute or end the call. I have searched the googles and found nothing. Any help would be appreciated. I'm sure it's a simple setting that I'm missing. Thanks!

Hi, How do I disable this "use touch tone keypad" "return to call in progress" on my Mobicell Android, when I get incoming calls I cant pick them up., unless I click on either of these two when a pop up appears.

How to change out the stock dialer for calls?

When I first setup my phone, I was asked which app I wanted to use for calls. I just chose the stock dialer, I decided I really don't like it but the phone doesn't show in the app manager and people doesn't show it as the default.
Do I need to factory reset my phone to change this?
I would say go into the current dialer settings under app and clear it's defaults

I've noticed something annoying with the dialer on the HTC 10 that was never an issue on my HTC One M8.
I often like to answer an incoming call, and immediately move the call to speakerphone, before even saying, "Hello." With the M8 I could press the "answer call" button, and immediately press the speakerphone button and say, "Hello." With the HTC 10, however, after pressing the button to answer the call, the speakerphone button is not immediately available. There is a delay of perhaps 1-2 seconds before I can select the speakerphone button. Are others experiencing the same thing? If so, does anyone have a solution?
