All apps "unfortunately XXXXXX has stopped working" - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Looking for a bailout here guys. Bought an s4 a year ago and havent really played with it. Had an S2 before this phone that i rooted and had no problems working between ROMS. Last night i was "talked" into rooting my S4. Its an ATT (NC1). After it was rooted someone got a hold of the phone and deleted a laundry list of apps and now barely anything works on the phone. Trying to make a call, message, etc will not work and I get the "unfortunately XXXXXXX has stopped working" message and the app will close. Cant sign in to Google and the playstore will not open, attempts to but then closes. Google+ tries open but says "Couldnt connect to the server".
So i cant even make a call or message on the phone because the applications stop working. I have done a hard reset from both the backup menu and from recovery. Didnt make a difference.
Any ideas? It would be nice to be able to make phone calls again! .....And be able to download from playstore...

I guess he deleted important Apps so that the system can't really work anymore . The only way to fix it is to restore a backup and if you haven't got one you have to flash your current firmware again.

the best thing to do now would probably be to download a stock rom for your version of the S4 and flash it with Odin, you can search for the firmware here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/
On "Type" choose: Smartphone, on "OS" choose: Android, then find your model and select your country, download the latest rom from your carrier, then flash it with Odin.

ISSUES AFTER ROOT! I get this error after every app install!!!

I am getting an error after every app I install.
First I get the message:
"Enjoy your app! If you ever forget your password, we can help restore access to your Google Play library and purchases. Tap "Continue" to tell us how to contact you."
Then When I Hit Continue:
I get a blackscreen, the a force quit on com.google.android.gsf.login
Am I really the only one with this issue? I even booted into stock recovery and did a restore... Anyone else?
Bumb. No one else is having this problem?
Rooted yesterday, then reinstalled all my apps. Never saw this message. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen that message before in all my five years of Android use.
I rooted earlier today. I have not had this problem.

Uninstall the google update and let it reinstall, might fix it.
1: Bad form to bump after a few hours.
2: Were you completely stock when you did the original rooting? I'd suggest getting the stock ODIN files and flashing back to that, then retry rooting without installing much of anything.
3: I recommend using 7zip to unpack the files. I had issues with WinRAR, but 7zip worked fine.
Rooted mine last night, reinstalled a bunch of apps between last night and today. I've never seen that message before.

Sorry if it was bad form to bump, should have just changed the title. Anyways
It seems like that is working so far. Uninstalled the update for the play store, cleared data and I haven't had a force quit yet.
I don't even get where this message is coming from, and not a lot when googling the issue. Right when I would accept an apps permissions, this message would pop up, I hit continue, and it seems like it tries to open something but screen goes black. Have to re-open play store BUT it was at the last place i was, the app i just installed with the open button. Weird...
thanks you rock

Unfortunately SAE has stopped.

i tried updating to an rooted kitkat version as we as get the Native hotspot going for my Sprint GS4.. however i did something wrong and now. i keep getting pop ups stating "unfortunately, SAE has stopped as well as many other programs.. how can i get this fixed.. i have tried factory reset, and to return to an stock firmware, but i cant get odin to pass. it keeps failing.. I have downloaded all the necessary stock firmware files, drivers etc.. . I can get a recovery to flash,, but the pop-ups for "stopped apps" still appear.. and i cant get pass them.. .
Same issue here
I have tried odin with stock tar and it fails I have no idea where to go next. I am sure it has something to do with the services.jar and services.odex files but how do you get around that.

Dude here is your answer use odin and install clockworkmod latest addition... then download stock kit kat zip put it on your sd card and install via clockworkmod. This work for me cause I was having the same issue. Peace out.
Also having this issue. It started before I rooted. First I did a factory reset, (and assuming that would fix the issue on a completely stock unrooted phone) decided if I was doing a reset there would be no safer time for me to root. So I CF-Autorooted and enabled native hotspot. I believe this is possibly somehow related to my phone and the play market because updating or installing apps seemed to be the common element triggering them to start failing. Google Search would fail over and over every half second after I dismissed the notification making the phone all but unusable, so I did another factory reset, and now SAE (presumably samsung account setup?) is what fails without even the half second in between, completely unusable. I'm afraid my last hope is to one-click it.

[Q] Issue with Play store on s5 Active!!!

Hi Guys
I have no idea what has happened to my partners s5 actives playstore app...
Say "check your internet connection and try again"
She did a back up with titanium and the it rebooted half way through but when she restarted the phone it had lost playstore and play store services... Managed to find the apps and reinstall them but now have the above error at one point it was "error retrieving from server [RPC:S-7:AEC-0 UD3P-GKBS-RGDFC" but wiped caches etc for all the usual culprits and removed her google account and then rebooted and readded it and now she has the mention "check your internet connection and try again" every thing else is working fine.... But am wondering if the location of the playstore is correct as the app is not in a folder like all other apps are!!!!
any help would be very welcome as pulling what little hair I have left out at the mo...
Sounds like Titanium backup fail corrupted something, or the problem was going to happen anyway,
try flashing the same ROM over the top with ODIN, nothing but root and recovery will be lost if it's a stock ROM

Youtube and Google Play Services won't work with Freedom

Galaxy S5, rooted has several issues now:

So my S5 (verizon) is rooted, running the deodexed stock BOK3 ROM with xposed installed but otherwise not much added is having a few issues.
1. Everytime I reboot, I get "Google Play Services has stopped" pop ups excessively. And error codes that "Maps won't run unless Play Services is updated" . Even when updated, if I immediately reboot, I get the same errors. This happens on every reboot.
2. WiFi does not seem to allow data transmission. It says it's connected to the network, but there is no internet activity. This is relatively new.
3 . Snapchat won't log on. Neither with mobile data nor Wifi (which doesn't seem to work).
Any suggestions on what is up with this?
Can I just back up all the systen/data in SS, then factory reset and re-install the ROM from the SD card?
getting the same problem with the Google Play Store not working, android.process.media keeps crashing as well.
The S5 looks to be coming to an end. Loved this phone, but I think I'm going to upgrade to the S8 and switch to the new unlimited plan--now allows hotspot. I get to use the faster LTE Advanced and won't have to go the rooted route.
Hi, I'm new here so be patient please. I have heard nothing but good things about XDA Developers website. May I test this "theory"? My question is I rooted my s5 a few months ago, but when I unrooted root checker said "not rooted" but some apps still think I'm rooted. ?? Help.

S4 Aurora Red and its "Unfortunately has Stopped" returning message

Hello All,
first post by newb ...
I bought an unlocked S4 Aurora Red SGH-I337ZR.
I then used Titanium back up to try and remove the ATT bloat. I must have deleted one file too many.
When I try to start the phone app, I receive the message
"Unfortunately Contacts has stopped".
I then factory rest the phone, and pressed the "Phone" app, and the error message has returned.
Oddly enough, if I press Contacts, the Contact app opens without issue.
How can I reseolve this?
Preferably without any of the ATT bloat, ... nor any of the other superfluous apps.
I must mention that I cannot " see" the phone on my PC when the USB cable is attched to both. I have downloaded and installed the Samsung drivers...alos full blown Kies.
Perhaps the cable? Yet it charges the phone fine. I think what I am stumbling to say is, would a custom ROM fix this?
If yes, which ROM is "barest"...
I am running 4.4.2
IF more info is needed, I can provide that later, as I do not have it on me now.
Thank you for reading
F.
When it is attached to the computer when you pull down on notifications does it say charging via USB or mtp or anything? If you have an option to change it it should be the mtp option. I'm not sure how to help if this doesn't work. Good luck.
I say get safe strap installed and boot the golden eye ROM. It's the lollipop stock ROM with no bloat.
