[Q] Is it possible change S5 variant - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a g900s sktelecom variant and I would like to know if it can be flashed with a firmware for another variant?
I already tried flashing a firmware for g900f but didn't work. It gives "auth fail" at sbl1 or something right after start.
Thanks in advance.

Question is, WHY would you flash a different variant firmware.
No, you can't flash Stock firmwares to other variants, some custom roms however are compatible with multiple variants.

[Q] Galaxy S5 apps stop working and grey lockscreen after flashing firmware

Hi I just got the Galaxy S5 but because it had carrier firmware on it i downloaded the international version of the firmware from sammobile.com but after flashing it voice recorder app and dropbox says stopped working all the time and i can not use the phone.
allthough the lock screed turned to grey..
any ideas????
I dont recommend flashing firmware for different varients of the S5.
I HIGHLY recommend you reflash your carrier's firmware. Then just flash one of the International ROMs, which will not alter your baseband.

[Q] Can I flash G900F modem on G900W8 and how?

I've been having a problem on my S5 where the data symbol is stuck on 4G and doesn't show anything else. It might be a baseband/modem error since I'm using a Canadian model in Cyprus. Can I use the modem from the Cyprus G900F firmware and flash it on my G900W8? Also can someone explain how I could do that so that I don't screw it up, if it is possible?
!
RE UP!
Same pb...
To flash a modem you need a .bin file and odin.
Clear your delvik/cache,
put your phone in download mode,
load phone with the .bin file and flash it.
I also am having data issues with all custom ROM's. If it's not one thing it's another. Canadian phones always get left in the dust it seems.

Probably not. You neglected to tell us what your W8 baseband and firmware are, which is rather crucial information. Making it impossible to give you a definitive answer. In most cases Odin will refuse to allow the change.
That isn't really an issue most of the time. There should be a variety of W8 modems for you to choose from if you want to change your modem.

[Q] Can install G900F in G900M?

Hi Friends
In try install the Stock ROM G900F in my Samsung S5 G900M but is not possible.
When try ODIN V3.09 say:
secure check fail : aboot
My questions is:
1. Is possible install?
2. If yes, how??
Im read and the difference is the G900F include all bands, and G900M include the band only to SouthAmerica.
Additional the customization of the cell company.
Sinserely,
Normally is not possible is different firmware
Yes but is different firmware because the F include all bands, by the harsware is same.
Im read in other post can install the firmware but no the bootloader and the modem
Im not sure.
But think is possible install this.
Thanks

Firmware from SM-G950F to SM-G950N?

I have a question, can I install the firmware from SM-G950F to the SM-G950N? I have 5 file versions of firmware from SM-G950F which has polish language.
I'm trying accomplish the same thing. Already tried flashing TUR firmware for G950F on a G950N. Odin outright fails with "secure check fail pit" error. I also tried repartitioning using "DREAMLTE_EUR_OPEN.pit" file and it also fails with the same error. Then I enabled "oem unlock" thing from developer settings and redid the all above, still no luck.
Here is a video of someone doing exactly what I want to accomplish on S7: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnIoAN4grp0
I'm planning to try again in case I found another link for the pit file and maybe a firmware from another host.
Well, ****.
According to this comparison table (http://www.phonemore.com/compare/ph...m-g950n-vs-samsung-galaxy-s8-sm-g950f/5334991) SM-G950F and SM-G950N is slightly different in which bands/frequencies they support. I'm not sure if this implies a different baseband hardware or just a different software configuration for the same hardware.
is there any other way to do that?
flashing just the AP file in ODIN may work but it requires OEM unlock and trips KNOX thus I stopped trying at that point.

NO YOU CAN'T!!!
If that was possible, Samsung hadn't made a -N- model, but had called it also -F-!!!

Why would it trip knox ?

Flashing AP image of G950F is prevented in the download mode, reason being the OEM lock. Based on this data I guess that G950N and G950F images are signed with different signatures, thus forcefully flashing the G950F image in G950N will trip KNOX, because it is unsigned and not different than a custom ROM image from KNOX point of view. It would even have the root baked in. This is why I'm 99% sure even though I haven't tried it.

It is not necessarily so as a general rule. AFAIK there have been compatible or even same hardware with switchable firmware images in the past.
Apart from that Korea always got exclusive model numbers that are different than global model no. regardless of it being different hardware.
In the end though you're still right because flashing of bootloader, baseband and pit file is hard blocked anyway.
Another point I should add is that there is now a custom recovery, a custom ROM image and a custom kernel image in the development section and they are all universal images which work on all Exynos models regardless of the variant (even regardless of S8 or S8+).
This further shows that the "model numbers" and blocking of cross variant flashing is not because of a hardware difference but just an arbitrary decision by Samsung. At most the baseband will be different between N and F models (because of CDMA support) but that's all.

Try flashing ONLY the CS/CSC HOME or FACT (the one without the word HOME) file from the "F" version onto your "N", which is just the user configuration file containing the languages. Make sure that "OEM Unlocking" is turned on, maybe with some tweaking you might be able to flash the full or partial "F" onto the "N".
In the US we have the Qualcom "U" version, yet are able to flash the "U1" (Universal multi CSC) firmware without an issue.
Don't try to flash this "U" or "U1" firmware onto any international Exynos model, it just won't work.

Since both are samsung firmwares, I doubt it won't trip knox counter.
I believe 950F, FD, N shares same hardware.
Samsung seems to make only 2 variants since S7. Exynos or Qualcomm version.
Seen many people succeed on 950f firmware on 950fd device. (950f/fd firmware can be flashed vice versa.)
Try to flash pit file (csc) and re-partition first.
If it doesn't work, then try to flash whole firmware file (ap, csc, boot..etc) with odin.
I'm also trying to flash 950n on 950fd. Waiting for my device to come in.
Good luck.
So guys, any progress on this from anyone ?
