So I bought my gf a droid ultra unlocked. Went and got a nano sim from T-Mobile store. I put the correct APN settings according to the apn guide from theunlockr
Now the question is can I get LTE on it? According to a tutorial on tmobiles site I just have to change
APN: epc.tmobile.com
to
APN: fast.tmobile.com
So the real question is can I get LTE for her if I make that change? Or does the ultra not support the T-Mobile lte band?
I checked coverage map on tmo in my area and there is LTE, just wondering if it will work on the droid ultra.
It supports it. It should automatically connect if the band is available in your area. The APN makes the actual TCP IP connection to the internet.

However you are going to have issues sending texts and making calls if you connect to LTE. You can get around them by disabling LTE.

You can't send text messages or make outgoing calls if you have droid ultra 4.4 or above on lte. It'll fall over to the cdma/1x network.
It used to work at 4.2.2 but Motorola and verizon changed it. If you have problems sending text messages on lte or making calls on lte, you can for complaint with fcc and verizon might address your issues.
Thanks peeps. I will just keep it how it is for her. Don't wanna mess it up and have her nag my ear off.

This issue is corrected in my moto x 4.4.4 port but only for unlocked bootloaders.
I thought I'd read this issue was fixed on the 4.4.4 OTA. It was not?

It was fixed in the Moto X 4.4.4 OTA, not on the Ultra/Maxx. That is why @Topsnake 's Moto X ported ROM solves the issue. Likely, the next update will solve this for the Ultra/Maxx....we can hope anyways.

Exactly. We hoped the native 4.4.4 update for the maxx would have fixed it since its been present through 3 updates, but no dice.
Well no hope on unlocking the boot loader to fix this on 4.4.4
Now I have to decide what to do with this device on Tmobile. With no refarmed towers I'll be stuck on 2G ?

Most of Verizon's world phones are SIM locked, and you either have to get it unlocked, or use Verizon's SIM card. I figured it would be the same for this phone. However, I read somewhere that the pre-release version is unlocked out of the box. I'm guessing by pre-release, they mean the one that was given to the press at the launch event.
Anybody know if all the Ms are unlocked from the factory? Specifically, what I'm after is to find out if they can be used on AT&T or T-Mobile in the US without any modifications. The earlier Motorola world phones needed modifications to do so, but it's worth a shot to see if this maybe is different. Just being generally unlocked saves a step, too, but if someone can provide the information on whether it is unlocked for US bands, that would be great.
I can confirm it does not allow calls using a US T-Mobile SIM. It does show the voicemail indicator and my t-mo # correctly in settings, but I think its just reading that from the SIM card itself.
Doesn't verizon unlock after 90 days good standing? I know for iPhones they do. Might be something I'll try in a few months.

Thanks for the info! I'm not sure if that is the typical behavior or not. I forgot what my Droid Pro did before I unlocked it.
Verizon usually does unlock it if you've been a customer for more than 90 days. They still won't let you use the US networks, though...just international ones. Hopefully P3Droid and his team will work their magic on this one. I know he already ordered a Dev Edition of the M.

It sounds like it is SIM unlocked since it's reading from the T-Mobile SIM at all. I believe all the Razr & Razr Maxx officially come as SIM unlocked from the factory, so I would guess the Razr M would too. It still has the network block for US GSM networks, but that's different than the SIM card.
I'm interested in getting the Razr M to replace my Droid Pro, so if anyone could confirm, that would be great!

That could be, and maybe it's just Verizon's policy these days, considering the iPhone 5 ships unlocked (and the iP5 has no US band lock, either). Hopefully someone can try it with an international SIM when they travel and let us know.
Now that a few people have gotten the Dev version in their hands, any differences on that one as far as the SIM unlock goes? Since Verizon doesn't sell that directly, maybe Motorola left the US bands unlocked on that one.
Is The RAZR M SIM Unlocked From The Factory?
Is there anything new on this?
Sim is Unlocked, it will read any sim but US-Sim seem to be Radio Locked.
Which u can bypass by an Aussie Radio. And then u can use it on T-Mobile or AT&T
I will be able to verify in 1-2 weeks if it will work on an International Sim with out any modification.
Sending my GirlFriend her Razr M to Germany so she can test it on O2.
Yeah, it's unlocked, and you can use it on T-Mobile and AT&T with the Australian radio, but nobody has been able to consistently get 3G on either carrier.
Does anybody test the phone outside of the U.S?
Any word?

The verizon s3 had gsm capabilities after some tinkering (I think it involved flashing a different rom), so I was hoping the same might eventually be possible with the us cellular s4. Does anybody know if the us cellular is purely cdma and not possibly a world phone with hidden gsm capabilities?
I have seen a few galaxy S4 listed as I9500 from US Cellular. I asked the sellers about it and they say they don't know. But I9500 is a GSM model and US Cellular is a CDMA carrier.
US Cellular will not work on other carrier
According to this reliable source s4 US Cellular is strictly CDMA, not like Verizon counter part.

I know, this is an old thread but I like the old phones.
I can confirm that a US Cellular Samsung S4 Model SCH-R970 can make calls and do SMS on a GSM carrier (Verizon) in my case. My problem is 4G data isn't working, yet. Edit: I am able to get 3G data going, but 4G is not.
I recently picked up a cheap but perfectly good US Cellular S4 and was able to use my Verizon SIM to make calls and SMS. It appears that the phone is only set to CDMA so data with Verizon isn't active at this moment (I am using wifi). The trick to getting the voice and text working was letting the phone go through 5-6 system updates over the course of 5-6 hours yesterday over wi-fi. After the last one, the phone "unlocked" from US Cellular** and let me use my Verizon sim to make calls and send text.
**This falls in line with what it says here uscellular dot com:
"4G LTE Devices
All 4G LTE devices launched by U.S. Cellular on or after February 1, 2016 are sold unlocked. Select 4G LTE devices (listed below) that were launched before February 1, 2016 are unlocked by installing the latest software update. I always liked my S4 so when my S5 broke (dead screen) I picked up an S4 cheap. I can't stomach paying $200-800 for a new or ussed S5-S8 phone.
Does anyone know how to add the GSM settings into the phone so I can select that as my data network?? Currently the phone only displays CDMA/LTE as the choices.

Ah, OK then I stand corrected. Perhaps I am running a fool's errand here (trying to get GSM going).
Let me update the situation: my current status is that 3G data is working on the SCH-R970 US Cellular phone (with a Verizon sim) but 4G never kicks in. Maybe I just need to visit a Verizon store.

Yep, thanks. I attempted to do that. But I don't believe I the setting took hold.
Details: I used "Offline SIM APN" tool (from Play Store), and manually entered the settings that I found online for Verizon. The Os is now 5.0.1 and the tool says it can no longer add the APN automatically on Android v4.0 or higher, so I did it manually. It appears to be in the phone but I don't know how to activate it on the phone.

I managed to add APN in an old phone a few years ago by editing the build.pro file, but you need to be rooted in order to do that.
So I was looking over the difference between D800 (ATT) and D801 (TMOUS) and it seems that the reception difference is D800 has an LTE band 5 and the D801 has an 3G band of 1700. Whats the practical difference in reception? Seems like att is starting to grow band 5, and 1700 is tmobile. I travel to some remote areas and I think tmobile works there and att struggles (not sure at least it did 2 years ago), but do like the idea of freely switching between the two without having a tradeoff. will probably start with straight talk for att but will switch to the tmous if i cant get service where i move.
Please share thoughts on the best strategy...
thank you

From my own, uninformed research I think we will be fine taking the T-mobile LG G2 (d801) to AT&T.
Looking at the information below taken from Phone Arena, the LTE band 5 isn't in all AT&T LTE phones
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/HTC-One-X-LTE_id7376
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Samsung-Galaxy-Express-I437_id7515

Going off of this research I've ordered the D801 but It is possible I can turn out to be wrong.
This explains it more

The D801 CM maintainer was out of county apparently and I'm guessing he held off on uploading everything since he's been gone for a couple weeks and didn't want to push something that would be broken for weeks by chance. We'll start seeing a good bit of roms in the coming weeks and by everything moving to KitKat we'll be in as good of shape as any other device since our devices are plenty similar to each other.
LG G2 d801 (t-mobile) with AT&T straight talk activation help...
I just tried to activate my factory unlocked lg g2 d801 with straight talk with at&t. I set my APN up for the at&t network and used the at&t sim card that came with the straight talk bundle. Now on the lock screen it says invalid SIM card.
What do I have to do to make my phone work? Thanks in advance!
I borked phone flashing a T Mobile based ROM on my canadian G2 (since they both are the D801; by personal research I've observed the D803 works as intended on my canadian D801). I will try later today to flash yet again another T Mo rom on it, but this time I'll flash back the stock kernel. I'll report back.
Just to play it safe, I'd reflash your stock kernel... that way it won't act funny all of a sudden along the way.

LTE on AT&T with D801?
I can't seem to find a clear answer on whether it's possible to get LTE indication and speed on a D801 (TMo) used on AT&T.
Tech Support is giving me the "we can't guarantee data speeds on non-AT&T-branded phones".
This thread seems to say a TMo-branded phone (LG G2 in my case) CAN be provisioned for LTE:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2506590
Most other threads say no, or there's no conclusion in the thread.
Can anyone give me the straight answer and tell me how to go about it? A way to get past the stone-walling AT&T techs?
I have H2O which uses AT&T's network but only HSPA+ and not LTE but the phone sees AT&T's LTE network when searching for networks.
In this thread there is a screenshot of a T-Mobile phone getting LTE indication on the AT&T network.

Along with a lot of confusion about why his phone was working on LTE. As a relative newb to this stuff I couldn't make any sense of it.
Also in that thread was this comment:
T-Mobile devices support ALL AT&T and T-Mobile bands, except LTE Band 5 (used by AT&T in a few rural areas). What's wrong is AT&T turns off LTE for non-AT&T devices. You have to call them up and give them the IMEI # of an AT&T-branded device (even if it's not yours and even if your SIM isn't in it/you don't plan on using it). They don't check after that.

Sorry for hijacking but anyone moving from D801 to ATT can share their APN Settings. Cant get internet to work to save my life!
Hey, I've used xda plenty in the past before but never had to post a question so bear with me.
I bought a att lg g2 and a tmobile sim to go with it. I can only get 3g, no lte. Its very slow. I did some reading and it looks discouraging. I live in south texas.
Is there anyway to turn on the radio bands i need to make 4g/lte work? I saw a thread about how to turn on lte for custom roms. Will that work or not? I think tmobile uses bands 17 19 and 21. There are those bands in the hidden menu on my phone but idk. It looks like some att lg g2s work with tmobile lte and others do not. Thanks for your help.
Ps. Im on another forum where the attitude towards noobs is like xda's so take it easy on me lol.

Yes, its rooted and unlocked for different carriers. Su is installed but not a custom recovery. Im not really interested in installing a custom rom at this point.
From the carrier pages:
AT&T LG G2 has bands 1,2,4,5 & 17
T-Mobile LG G2 has: 2,4,7 & 17
7 is 2600MHz so it's not relevant for the US
I would say it's not a phone capability problem
The T-Mobile LG G2 has a seting in networks for network mode: GSM, WCDMA, GSM+WCDMA, GSM+WCDMA+LTE
The same can be achieved with the Phone Info app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=myc.phone.PhoneInfo
Also make sure you are using the fast.t-mobile.com APN http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-2090
That apn you linked above does not work on my phone. I talked to a tmobile rep this morning and thats the one he gave me. When that one didnt work i got referred up the line to a rep that sent me texts with setting patches that supposedly set my phone up like a tmobile one but i didnt get 4g/lte from that and it wasnt the lte apn. I did, however, find another fast.tmobile.com apn with a little bit different settings than the one linked above that gave me 3g. Im at a loss, I guess.
LTE works fine on this phone, I use a D800 on T-Mobile, you just need the LTE APN. That's what I use on mine.

Well I apologize for missing that but I have to ask will this give me full functionality eg 4g and everything? Since this carrier shares Verizon towers and such I thought it should but I'd like to be sure I won't have any issues before I throw money at someone lol. Please excuse my ignorance

Well, if you have a Bluegrass Phone, and Bluegrass SIM, then I do not see why it wouldn't run the 4G if that is something your carrier offers. If Verizon has the 4G there, and your carrier offers it as an option, then I would think you will be fine.

Nah I'm saying I'd purchase a Verizon phone and was asking if the 4g would work Verizon phone with bluegrass Sim but I checked the thread over there someones using a tmo Sim and their 4g is fully functional so I'm guessing mine will be fine too. Thanks!
