The Galaxy S3 being my first android (or smartphone for that matter), I had a tough time trying to figure out how to root my phone, which methods to use and which ROM to install. So I've compiled this from other threads here on xda after 2 days of heavy reading, for other noobs like me
FOLLOW THIS GUIDE TO THE LETTER. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING, PRESS ANYTHING, CHECK ANY BOXES UNLESS TOLD TO DO SO OR YOU WILL END UP WITH A 600$ BRICK

So what is rooting? Rooting basically gives you administrator privileges on your phone, allowing you to install a host of programs that allow you to, for e.g. use firewalls, remove bloatware, change themes, install improved kernels, install custom roms with improved boot and memory performance, the list is really endless.
ROOTING VOIDS YOUR WARRANTY
However, it IS possible to reverse the process and cover your tracks, should you need to claim warranty. Read on to find out how.

Before we begin, its a good idea to note down the details under Settings -> About Phone, for future reference. Also note that under Status, if you root your phone, it changes to 'Modified'. This is, as stated before, reversible.
This guide is for the GT-I9300 Model. If your model number has a suffix (other than T) this may not work.
Step 1: Flashing CF-Root with Odin
This is an easy method to root your phone and I haven't needed to use any other. It comes with the added benefit of also installing Clockwork Mod and CWManager which we will use to make backups, flash our first ROM and cover our tracks. 1. Install Samsung Kies and plug your phone into your PC via USB so that all the appropriate phone drivers are installed
2. Download and extract Odin3-vX.X.zip from the download link below
3. Download and extract CF-Root-SGS3-vX.X.zip ONCE (you will end up with CF-Root-SGS3-vX.X.tar
CF-Root for SGS3 v6.4:

4. Disconnect your phone from your computer, close Samsung Kies and any antivirus/firewall that may interrupt the flashing process
5. Run Odin, click PDA and navigate to your CF-Root-SGS3-vX.X.tar file
6. Power off your phone and then boot it into download mode (Hold Volume Down + Home + Power button until the screen fires up)
7. Note the warning and continue.
8. Connect the phone to your PC via USB and allow drivers to install.
9. Make sure 'Re-partition' is NOT checked in Odin
10. Click Start button and wait for android to boot
11. If you see a green 'PASS' message in Odin, everything went as intended. Done!
Step 2: Make a NANDroid Backup
This is a precautionary measure that backs up your phone's current state, should you have any problems with custom Roms. It is also a step in reversing the root process, should you need to claim warranty.
1. Power off your phone and boot into recovery mode (Hold Volume Up + Home + Power button untill the screen fires up). This starts up ClockworkMod.
2. Use Volume Up/Down to navigate and the Power button to select
3. Navigate to Backup/Restore->Backup and wait for backup to finish
4. Go back and select 'Reboot System Now'
5. Connect your phone to your computer and copy the backup folder from /sdcard/clockworkmod/backups/
6. Done! Now you can restore this backup by booting into recovery mode and hitting Restore!
Step 3: Installing your first ROM
After hunting for a good ROM that was fast and bloatware free, I ended up with the nightly build of the popular CyanogenMod 9 and I don't intend to go back!! I haven't had any problems with it whatsoever but if you prefer, you could instead install the RC version.
Note: The camera's flash feature cannot and will not work on any version of cyanogenmod until samsung releases source code for their camera.
Here's how to flash the ROM. This is also the basic method of installing any other ROM or kernel, though the ROM/kernel developer would give you more tailored instructions.
1. Download the desired version of CyanogenMod 9 from here:

2. Download Gapps from here. I used the 20120429 version. This may not be necessary for other roms.

3. Copy both files to your phone's internal sd card
4. Boot into recovery mode
5. Select 'wipe/factory reset' and confirm
6. Select 'wipe cache partition' and confirm
7. Go to Advanced -> wipe dalvik cache and confirm.
Now we're ready to flash the ROM!
8. Select 'install zip from sd card'
9. Select 'install zip from internal sd card and navigate to the cyanogenmod file and confirm
10. When done, use the same method to install the gapps file
11. Do a wipe/factory reset again (needed for google calendar sync to work)
12. Go back and select 'Reboot system now'
13. The boot screen of the new ROM will show up. Wait about 10 seconds, remove the battery and put it back in.
14. Power on and setup your phone. Done!

Step 4: Installing your modem
With CyanogenMod 9, people report that the first call made doesn't work, but every subsequent call will. If, however, you are still unable to make calls, you may have to install your phone's specific modem driver which you should have noted under Baseband version before we began (under Settings->About Phone).

2. Boot into Recovery Mode
3. Install .zip from internal sdcard and navigate to your modem.zip file
4. Done!
Step 5: Covering your tracks
So your phone is broken and you need to claim warranty? Not with your rooted phone you don't! The S3 uses a flash counter that tells it how many times the phone has been flashed, and your rooted phone appears as 'modified' under status information. Here's how to cover your tracks.
1. Download your phone's stock firmware for your region from here and copy it to your phone

3. Install TriangleAway by opening the .apk your phone's file explorer (Mine's ES File Explorer)
4. Run TriangleAway and select 'Reset Flash Counter'. Your phone will Reboot into a special mode. Reset the flash counter here and pull the battery immediately after reboot.
5. Boot into Recovery Mode and do a factory reset, cache wipe and dalvik cache wipe.
6. Flash the stock Firmware, reboot and setup the phone without any logins.
7. Check that Settings -> About Device -> Status is not 'Modified'
8. Done!

Optional: Upgrade to CM10
1. Make a Nandroid backup so you can restore if you dont like cm10/if its too buggy.

I have posted this thread only on xda and like chainfire believe it should be available for free. People won't buy the app unless theyve tried it and know it works. But since you complained I've removed the attachment and people will have to visit chainfire's thread in order to download it.

You will lose your apps when switching to a new rom. One good way to reinstall apps is with titanium backup pro (batch reinstall).
If you had your contacts sync;d with google, syncing with your google account on your new rom should (supposedly) restore your contacts. I didnt have to do this though since i added contacts after installing cm9.

Having recently purchased a TF300T with intent to customize the hell out of it, I ran into a big problem. There wasn't one definitive guide for my general case, some of the steps I read weren't completely clear, and I often had to put pieces together from multiple guides to get where I wanted. Halfway through the process it occurred to me that sharing my experience in form of a guide could give the community something I wish that I had when I began. So enough with the intro, let's visualize the process before we begin.
This guide is for new owners of TF300T devices that have Jelly Bean 4.1.X preflashed from the factory.

This guide has been made with the total android noob in mind. Having only owned an android tablet for a week, I too am an android noob. On the flipside, I'm no noob to hardware and software exploits and modifications. I've tried to make this friendly for any type of noob, but there are a few instances where I expect basic menu and Windows 7 navigation skills.
ClockworkMod Recovery doesn't appear to have a "Shutdown" function, nor does it display current battery level-- for this reason, the recommendation and warning to have a battery charged to at least 60% is extremely heavy. The worst thing that can happen to any device is usually an incomplete flash. Don't let it happen to you-- start charging your TF300T NOW.
I have seen reports that "Fastboot" doesn't work properly on Windows 7 64-bit. This guide addresses that issue, as I also encountered it. If you don't know what "Fastboot" is, in the words of an admirable comedian, "You gonna learn today". Don't worry about it for now!
Your device came with JB-- you didn't miss the bus for NVflash. In your case, the bus never came.
I am not responsible for any damages caused to (but not limited to) yourself or your device.
Even if you think you're pretty good at figuring this stuff out, stick to the directions as close as possible.
If you love tweaks, you're going to love your custom ROMs.

Unlocking Your TF300T

WARNING: Unlocking your TF300T will void your warranty. If your device breaks or fails under normal use, don't expect Asus to pick up the tab! Be aware that once unlocked, it cannot be relocked.
There are two ways you can go about this-- Either download the official Asus unlock utility for Windows or download the .apk and install from your tablet (Asus utility still working! I successfully unlocked mine on JB 4.1.1). I chose to download the .apk and install directly on my tablet, therefore this is the method I will cover.
To download the .apk file, scan the QR Code below with Barcode Scanner (free; on Play store) and open the URL to the Asus Support page for the TF300T. Alternatively, if you are viewing this thread on your TF300T, you may simply tap the code below.
On the Asus Support page, select "Android" as your OS. The page will reload and present you with a list. Click on "Utilities", then after it has loaded, download the Unlock Device App. When it is done downloading, a notification will pop up in the lower right corner. Click on it to install the Unlock tool. You'll also be able to open the app immediately after the install completes-- open it now.
After scrolling to the bottom of the End User Licence Agreement, select the checkbox indicating that you agree to those terms. You should now have access to the slider that will unlock your tablet. Stay connected to your wifi and unlock when ready. The unlock will not work without access to the internet.
If I recall correctly, your tablet should reboot. Just let it do what it wants. After it's done doing it's thing, take this opportunity to make backups! when you and your tablet are ready, we'll continue on to the next step.
Setting Up The Android SDK and Installing ClockworkMod Recovery

Perhaps this was the most frustrating part of my experience-- Installing the Android SDK went fine when I could actually find the .exe download. After that it was a matter of getting the drivers for Fastboot working properly. I was able to narrow it down to a problem for users of Windows 7 64-bit.
From your PC, go HERE, scroll down and click on "Download For Other Platforms". Scroll down more and under the "SDK Tools Only" downloads, you should find a download that looks like: "installer_r##-windows.exe" where "##" is the revision number. Download this .exe and assuming Windows is installed on C:\, install it to either "C:\tools\android-sdk" or "C:\android-sdk". If Windows is not installed to drive letter C, replace the drive letter with the correct letter for your system. Do the same when following the command prompt examples that follow.
Open the Android SDK Manager. Search for "SDK Manager" in the start menu and you should find a result with the same name and a little android icon. Once it's open, you'll be presented with a list. Check the box next to the "Tools" folder, then expand the "Extras" folder and check the box next to "Google USB Driver". In the lower right corner, click "Install packages...", agree to all when ready and begin your downloads.
In the settings application of your tablet, go to the "Developer options" tab near the bottom. Ensure that the switch in the top right corner is in the "ON" position, then under the "Debugging" header, enable "Android debugging". Read the following carefully before you continue: Shut down your tablet and connect your USB cable. Hold the power and volume down buttons at the same time. Keep holding until you see a menu. The menu will consist of a few items, among them there is "RCK", a USB icon, an Android icon, and a "Wipe Data" icon. Tap volume down until the USB icon is selected, then press volume up. Cross your fingers and hope drivers install automatically.
They probably won't, so have windows look in the \android-sdk\extras\ folder. It should say the drivers installed successfully. Either way, open the start menu, and right click on "Computer". Click "Manage", then in the left hand pane of the new window, click "Device Manager". The "Other Devices" section may be already expanded in the center pane. If it is, look to see if "Fastboot" appears in that section with a yellow exclamation mark.
If it isn't there, you shouldn't be worried-- check for a section called "Android Phone" or "Portable Devices". Look for a device called "Android ADB Interface" or "Fastboot". It shouldn't have a yellow exclamation mark next to it.
In the event you have the device appearing with a yellow exclamation mark next to it, go HERE and download PdaNet. This was my remedy for this error. Unplug your TF300T from your computer and install PdaNet following instructions. During the install a warning will appear to install unsigned drivers. Install the driver anyway, and let the installation finish. You can now plug your TF300T back in, and it should be recognized automatically. Just in case, hold the volume down and power buttons again until your tablet restarts and you see your hidden menu again. Once again, tap volume down until the USB icon is selected, then press volume up again to select it. Check the Device Manager again and you should find the "Android Phone" section at the top. Within it, you'll find a device called "Android ADB Interface".
Now that we have your tablet and computer set up nicely, we can finally install ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery. Go to THIS thread and download the attachment called "recovery-jb.img" (thanks XpLoDWilD!). It is VERY important that you download "recovery-jb.img" as this is the version for users with Jelly Bean bootloader!
Rename the file you just downloaded to "recovery.img" and place it in \android-sdk\platform-tools . In Windows 7, open the Start Menu and search for "cmd". You should see a result called "cmd.exe". Right click that result and click "Run as Administrator". Now type the following commands into the new command prompt window in order to flash CWM Recovery:

DON'T unplug your tablet!! Don't close the window either! Wait for the command prompt to finish what it's doing, then you can type the final command:

Your tablet will reboot. Once it has fully rebooted, shut it down and hold volume down and power again to access our tablet's hidden menu. This time, instead of selecting the USB icon, select "RCK" and press volume up. If I'm not mistaken, "RCK" stands for "ReCovery Kernel". ClockworkMod Recovery should load up. If it doesn't, then you were not successful in flashing CWM. If it does, then you can go to the Backup and Restore menu and create a backup.
I was overconfident when I went through all this, and I didn't make a backup-- for me, I wasn't able to get my SD card detected (64GB fat32), but even in this case you should be able to make a backup to your "Internal SD card". Unfortunately, you are on your own for this step. Make sure that you transfer this backup to your PC after creating it. You may need to disable Developer options in your TF300T's settings before you can transfer files over again.
In THIS post, XpLoDWilD gives instructions on how to Root your tablet. If I'm not mistaken, this applies to users who are using a ROM that does not already have root. If you care about Root right now, you can go ahead and flash his attached .zip file using CWM to your TF300T.
When I did this, I selected the .zip file with CWM and then went back to the main menu to select reboot. CWM then prompted me that it needed to fix permissions in order to keep Root. I tried it both ways-- first I let it fix permissions, then used a Play store app to check for root. Test came up negative, so I tried again without allowing it to fix permissions. Negative again. I tried again, allowing it to fix permissions again and then left it alone. If you are successful in rooting your TF300T, you can use Titanium Backup to backup your device later. However I used an app that did not require root that worked fine. The choice is yours.

Now it's time to find a custom ROM to flash. For my guide I will cover Baked TF300T Blackbean #6-- Based on CyanogenMod10, and quite a nice upgrade from the stock ROM. The only downside I found is the Asus App Backup application is not included and cannot be installed. I'm unsure why this is the case-- I have even attempted to install it via CWM with no success. If you need this app or the App Locker app, I suggest you choose a non-CM10 ROM. You are on your own in deciding an alternative, but I have heard great things about CleanROM and I seem to recall reading that these incompatible Asus apps work on it. Don't take my word for it-- do your own research to make sure!
It should also be noted that ROMs like Blackbean #6 have some potentially dangerous settings that can make a power user salivate profusely.

Okay, so it was his uncle, whatever. But either way, if you're going to install this ROM (or any other with overclock tweaks), BE CAREFUL when selecting different settings for CPU speed and overclocking. I used to overclock my PC as a hobby and pushed a 1.8GHz CPU to 2.77GHz on air cooling.. The thing I learned in the process is if you don't have the proper settings, your computer becomes unstable and weird things start happening. Data corruption, clicking the Start Menu does something crazy and unusual, PC crashes randomly, etc... Some of these errors are due to insufficient cooling-- a problem you cannot remedy when working with a portable device.
Assuming you are new to this tablet like I am, use this rule of thumb when dealing with foreign and potentially dangerous things: DON'T TOUCH IT until you understand it. Then when you understand it, understand it again. Then when you feel you've understood it twice, take baby steps. It's like jumping up a cement set of stairs-- you're definitely not going to try to jump five steps in your first attempt, unless you want to risk smashing your face and bloodying yourself up. Take it one step at a time-- make sure you can land on your feet before deciding to go further.
There's a lot of other options Blackbean #6 has that the average user can still appreciate, so ignore those overclocking/CPU stuff and focus on the other tweaks. Nova Launcher is included and is pretty sweet. I upgraded to Nova Launcher Prime and feel it's worth the extra $4, but I'll leave that for you to decide. There are more options than merely Nova Launcher alone, and not all of them have a price tag.
Without further adieu, let's download the Blackbean #6 ROM and Gapps. Head over to THIS official release thread for the downloads. The names of the files you want are:

gappsinverted-jb-20121029-signed.zip
Put them into a folder called "bb6" and copy the folder over to your TF300T. If your SD card is working in CWM (from CWM, go to the "mount" menu and try to mount SD card), copy the folder to your SD card.
NOW is the time to do any final backups before your fresh ROM install! I recommend "App Backup & Restore" on the Play store. If your tablet is rooted, you can also use Titanium Backup. Both will work fine, though generally speaking people seem to prefer Titanium Backup. People also seem to prefer TWRP over CWM, but I personally find the design unappealing. More importantly, I could only find a proper guide on installing CWM on a factory flashed JB TF300T.
Once you've made your backups, don't do anything until these backups are safely transferred to your PC! Don't forget to backup your music, movies and photos...
Now that you're 100% confident you've made all the backups you need and your battery is well charged and ready to go, let's flash your custom ROM! Shutdown and enter our hidden menu you should be very familiar with by now. Boot into CWM (with RCK icon from hidden menu selected, press volume up), then press volume up/down to navigate.
READ THE FOLLOWING SECTION BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE:
Select "install zip from sdcard" and tap power. If you placed your "bb6" folder on your SD card, tap the power button once more. If it says "Can't mount /sdcard/" in the bottom left corner, then select "choose zip from internal sdcard" and tap power. Earlier you should have put your ROM and Gapps in a folder called "bb6". If you can't find this folder in either the SD card or internal SD card locations, GO BACK, reboot, and make sure you put the folder on your TF300T or your SD card. You should also make sure that the ROM and the Gapps file are inside that folder as well. Do NOT unzip them! They are just fine as they are. We are NOT flashing the ROM and Gapps yet, we are merely making sure they are there before you wipe your tablet. If the files are there, go back to CWM's main menu.
Select "wipe data/factory reset" and tap the power button. Confirm that you want to wipe, wait for it to finish.
Now select "wipe cache partition" and press the power button. Confirm that you want to wipe, wait for it to finish.
Go back to the main menu and select "advanced" and tap power, then select "wipe dalvik cache" and tap power. Confirm that you want to wipe, wait for it to finish.
Don't worry! Your ROM and Gapps should still be in your bb6 folder. Navigate to "install zip from sdcard" again, and let's make the magic happen. We are going to install the ROM first, then install Gapps. Only after both the ROM and Gapps are installed will we reboot our tablet.
So select the ROM first, confirm that you want to install, wait for it to finish. This one will take a long time compared to the Gapps. Just be patient and wait, even though it looks like it's not doing anything.
Then select the Gapps, confirm that you want to install, wait for it to finish.
Finally, reboot your tablet and cross your fingers. You should be greeted with the sweet victory of the startup animation. Go through the first time setup routine, and make sure the tablet works. From here you can optionally backup your custom ROM, but I recommend getting your settings the way you like them before you backup.
Give yourself a pat on the back--you survived! Hope this guide helped someone out-- I was able to sort through my problems fine, but I felt it important to share my experience. I know I couldn't have been the first to hop through these hoops anyway.

note, if you want to install TWRP recovery instead, your command will change accordingly, just make sure you type in the exact file name you want to flash. so if your recovery file is named twrp.blob:

Your guide helped me a lot. I had problems only with root. Flashed 4 times, but always got "no root acces". Finally, I downloaded root package from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1845377 and it works well

Is your tf300 new? first hand? or have u ever sent it to asus for repair before?
Well written, well thought out instructions. Many, many thanks!! I'm still having some trouble though. I get stuck once I download the unlock app, open it, agree to the EULA, then another warning appears that is a black screen white text and a yellow triangle. Nothing happens after that. There are no buttons to agree, no checkboxes, nothing happens. Any advice?
*UPDATE* Figured it out. Be sure to sent the font in settings->display->font size to small, then you will see it. The large font pushes the agree button off the bottom of the screen.
It would be great if CWM in this OP were replaced with TWRP. Many are having issues with CWM. Me being one of them. I flashed TWRP with fastboot and no more problems!

Yes, it will work, I've tried it. But i suggest you use TWRP custom recovery though. CWM has high chances of getting bricked.

Could you also please add a NOOB tutorial for installing TWRP Recovery (this forum is very confusing in getting the right tutorials / avoiding outdated tutorials which would brick my TF300T etc)?
Example:

3) Reboot into the bootloader of your tablet, type: adb reboot bootloader
4) When your tablet has reached the bootloader navigate with volume down to the usb icon and press volume up to confirm.

Here is a little update on my progress...
- I unlocked the bootloader of my TF300T
- I managed to install latest TWRP
- Made a (COMPLETE) backup of the untouchedl system with TWRP <--- DO THIS BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE!
- Rooted the TF300T with the WW file in this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2033205 <----works awesome!
- Made a second (COMPLETE) backup of the now ROOTED system with TWRP
- Tried installing the latest "Cleanrom 3.01 Inheritance", but got the infamous "bootloop" too...the rom has been pulled down from the forum till that is fixed ( I thought I had done something wtong flashing a custom rom, but actually a lot of others had the same problem)
- Waiting for a "bootloop fixed" Cleanrom Inheritance 3.02....and gonna try flashing it again.

i never backup.... I only backup app using titanium backuo, if something on the rom goes wrong i just reflash latest firmware from asus website. If you like custom roms, i suggest you use Energy Rom if you want OC or Hydro rom if you want just modified stock rom with better performance.
I have a problem while I try to run the flash recovery command. I have done all steps prior to this.The only difference I see is in device manager I get "ASUS Android Devices". Now, the error I am getting comes after trying to run the command, I get "error: cannot load 'recovery.img' No error" . I have also tried the pdanet solution. Thank you for your help in advance.
Stupid question... but I am going to ask it. Having never rooted my TF300 it is on latest firmware will this guide still apply to be even though I bought my device running ICS but have updated to latest firmware? Have never rooted tablets before so all new to this.

Oxygen still hasn't been updated to Marshmallow code on OnePlus X, except for a beta available on the OnePlus 2. I have put together a detailed step by step installation instruction so that the first time users doesn't face any problem. If you are used to installing custom ROMs with TWRP recovery, then this should not be any different for you. Please read every step carefully so that your installation goes smooth without facing any problem.
As I mentioned earlier, you need to have a custom recovery (TWRP for this tutorial) installed on your phone. Please do that first and then get back to this tutorial. Make sure you read this tutorial once before actually performing it on your device.
Step 1 : Download Official CM 13 ROM and GApps from the above link for OnePlus X to your computer.
Step 2 : Connect and mount your OnePlus X USB memory to your computer using the USB cable.
Step 3 : Now copy/paste the downloaded CM 13 zip and Google Apps zip files to your
phone memory / SD card. Make sure the files are in the phone memory root (not in any folder).
Step 4 : Then turn OFF your phone and disconnect from the USB cable.
Step 5 : Now to get in the Recovery Mode. Switch ON the phone while pressing and holding Volume Down + Power buttons together.
Step 6 : Once you are in TWRP Recovery, perform a full data wipe by tapping on the ‘Wipe’ button. Then swipe on the “Swipe to Factory Reset” option at the bottom.
Step 7 : Now go back to the main menu and then tap on the ‘Install’ button. From the list, choose the ZIP file that you copied to your phone memory in Step 3.
Step 8 : Confirm installation on the next screen by swiping on the “Swipe to Confirm Flash” option. The installation procedure should start now.
Google Apps: Once the ROM installation is completed, repeat the above steps from Step 7 to Step 8 for the Google Apps zip file as well and install it on your phone.
Step 9 : Tap on the “Wipe cache/dalvik” button if you get into any boot loops or other issues.
Step 10 : You can now reboot your phone by selecting the “Reboot System” button.
Your One will boot now and it might take about 5 minutes to boot on your first time after flashing a new ROM. So, please wait.
That’s it! Your OnePlus X should now have Official CyanogenMod 13 ROM based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow installed on your phone! Go to Settings > About phone to verify.

FWIW, this guide works well but unfortunately I got into a constant loop around Google Play Services and Setup Wizard crashing.
I resolved this by copying the CM and Gapps packages to internal memory (not external SD), removing the SD card and then re-flashing both, making sure to flash Gapps straight after CM (ie. not rebooting in-between).

Thanks for the note, but either there is an issue with the update or the file got corrupted on the download. I flashed it and emui went through the update process, rebooted and then said my SD card was corrupt and to format it.
I have a 128GB card full of music TBU and saved ROMs that I did not want to lose. Went back via TWRP to previous and no damaged SD card and all is well.
Might have been the file was corrupted but just be caareful and always backup before you make any changes.
So nice of their support site to be down...

Can I ask where/when/how you found these files? There seems to be nothing official available, nor will Huawei provide any information about any prospective update.

my kiwi-L24 got re-flashed today, it is weird that this B351 update is no longer available from B331's update check
searched on internet, there is news about "honor 5c" getting a B351 nougat update
This came up on one of the 5X's that I have. Updated and forgot to put back stock recovery. Don't be like me and forget to do that. Now it won't work properly and I can't get to start any apps to try and fix it. I can put back TWRP and wipe it, but I don't want to lose my data. I also have that problem now where it keeps telling that the SD card is corrupted. I backed up the data and scrubbed the card in the phone but it keeps coming back with the same thing.
If someone did an actual successful update properly (with stock recovery) then please update and say if everything is working. If not, I'm going to have to find some way to backup the data and then scrub it.

I believe something like this happened to me before. I was on B151 and went to B331 with TWRP installed by accident. What happened was that the OS was still running EMUI 3.1 but the build was saying B331. After fighting with it (and community support) I managed to get it to B331 fully and EMUI 4.0 - since then and a few custom ROMs I'm back on B151 EMUI 3.1 due to stability. Games and some apps just didn't work on the new one. The second phone was on B331 fully though - then I made the same mistake and it went to B351. This time though, the phone seems screwed. No apps will load. I can get into settings and the file manager, but no Titanium Backup and no Flashify. Going to put back TWRP and try to flash GAPPS and see if it will help me get into Play Store. From there I'll try to reinstall Flashify and flash the ZIP of the update. Will post back once done.

Well that didn't work. Even after going back and trying to root the device again - then checking the option for it to not detect the dirty flash - still didn't work. Kept complaining that stock apps are already present.
I'm going to try and get some files off the device, but keep having issues. Not sure why. May just have to scrub. Will update again.

With TWRP on I used "ADB PULL" to get certain files from the root system which I couldn't access otherwise for some reason. Then copied the other things (photos and such) and will now be using the UPDATE.APP to get it working. For this I formatted the SD from within TWRP and created the DLOAD folder (with no caps - so that's dload - but I'm not sure if it matters) and will be copying the UPDATE.APP. Not sure which version yet, because there was some problem with one I had downloaded before. So I need to double-check and re-download.

So I've successfully flashed the UPDATE.APP from the SD card (same one the phone was claiming is corrupted). Just for reference, here is the file information and hashes.

The file name may be different, but as long as you got the right one you should be OK. If you have issues when copied to an SD card - verify that the file on the SD card has the correct hashes. To make it faster use CRC32. For more surety, use MD5. You can get a tool like WinMD5 to check. It's free.
So now that it's done, I'm going to set it up as a new phone and wait to see if the update comes back on. If it does, I'll get it down and upload the B351 recovery. After that I'll need to remember that I have to put back the stock recovery before running any updates. Flashify FTW.
BTW - during the initial setup after connecting to wireless it came back with the update. Pics to follow.

So the files are uploading to the folder. The screenshot is attached. Had one issue where after the update I couldn't get back into the phone. Had to wipe/factory reset. I've used FASTBOOT BOOT TWRP.IMG to take the backups of the BOOT and RECOVERY. Hopefully one of the gurus can use that and give the IMG files. This contains TWRP backups of the recovery and boot images. There's also a file called KIW-L24-B351 which was created with Flashify. I assume you can add the IMG extension to it and flash as needed.
Basically I had this update run on another phone (my wife's) and it messed with the phone due to the recovery being TWRP and not stock. My fault - forgot to do that before handing the phone back to her. I believe it happened to me before but it never messed up the phone this way. Nothing would work except core apps like settings and the stock file manager. The Play Store wouldn't even open.
Anyways - back to factory with UPDATE.APP then run the automatic update from an OTA update on wireless, then FASTBOOT BOOT TWRP.IMG and capture the backups. Then flash SuperSU to get root. Then Flashify. Files are uploaded for your convenience.
Warning that during the initial OTA it took a while. And after it was done I couldn't get into the phone with the password. Had to factory wipe/reset again and setup again. Disable passwords just in case I guess. Hope this helps others - have fun.
No major differences. I haven't really used the stock OS6 but some things look a little different. Nothing major. Will see when she's using it if it lags or has improved memory and such. Not sure if I'll be able to test with apps that wouldn't run previously for me, but will see. Tested with TransDrone and it failed. Once SeedBox information is loaded it still crashes. Only happens on OS6 so I'm sticking with OS5 on mine. Does not happen with custom roms however (from what I recall - would have to check back).

I received this OTA update and saddly i pressed the update button. Now the phone is in TWRP loop.
What can I do please help. I already wipe cache and Dalvik, didnt work.

Follow this video if don't know how to flash back stock recovery through adb. Then take a look at those threads how to downgrade, here, here, here. Hope it helps.

Same here.
It had been too many months of the Honor 5X in the closet so i almost lost track what to do but what i did was revert all the way back to Stock ROM (had to flash an extracted/saved Recovery.IMG) and then do the UPDATE.APP from Dload complete and repeat on up to the current B351.
Of course lost Root but when ready can add that back too.
Yes the Honor 5X runs much smoother now than before plus that Battery Drain issue (Remember That?) where we had to dig deep to change 4 to 0 i think, well Battery Life is also greatly improved on mine.

I tried to update as the previous user did using TWRP and got the corrupted SD card message. I then tried to go back to stock ROM. Went into bootloop.
Been having a hell of a time getting anything to work properly since.
Tested SM-T820, for Android O. It is reported that it works for Android P as well, with small modification (see below).
This post is designed to gather information found across this forum to give a step-by-step guide for obtaining a custom recovery TWRP and Root (via Magisk) for the Samsung S3 tablets running Android O. This process works if you are upgrading or staying with Oreo. [If you wish to run Android N, there is a slightly different process.] This process will wipe the contents of the tablet, so make backups as appropriate.
Credit to the software authors, original post creators (especially ashxy) and all those who contributed to the discussions to clarify all the issues. Most of the specifics below were hammered out in https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...recovery-twrp-3-1-0-1-samsung-galaxy-t3581359.
WARNING Flashing a custom recovery to your device will trip the Knox warranty bit on your phone. Check with your mobile provider to see if they will still cover warranty on Knox bit triggered devices. If you understand this risk, continue on. You generally don't have to worry, as it's incredibly hard to brick a Samsung device, and physical damage warranties should be exempt from Knox triggering. [credit: jcadduono]
The below instructions are for Android O (Oreo). User BenG7 reports (I have not verified) that the same process, with slight modification, will work for Android P (Pie). See posts #38 and #39 for those modified instructions.
1. DOWNLOAD

2. PREPERATION
a. While running your tablet in Android, go to Settings -> About device. Tap 7 times on Build number to enable Developer options. [credit: jcadduono]b. Now go to Settings -> Developer options. You need to enable OEM unlock, otherwise you might end up with boot problems or be unable to flash later on. Do not ever turn off Developer Options or OEM unlock. Doing so will cause your device to refuse to boot and require a full factory restore. [credit: jcadduono]c. Turn off your tablet.d. Get a micro SD carde. Copy Magisk and oreo encryption disabler onto microSD cardf. Install microSD card into Tabletg. Install Samsung USB Drivers on Windows machineh. Unzip ODIN (1a) and Original firmware (1c) on your Windows computeri. While tablet is off, plug in usb cable between tablet and Windows computer3. REFLASH ORIGINAL FIRMWARE (Optional if your tablet is already running Oreo)
a. Enter Download mode, press and hold Home, Down Vol, and Power until you see the Warning screen of the downloader mode. Press Vol up to continueb. Open up ODIN, confirm that ODIN can see your tablet. We will fill in three files for flashing. Click AP button on Odin. In popup, select AP_[blah blah].tar.md5 (whatever AP file you downloaded in step 1c). After selecting the file, Odin will check the signature of the file you downloaded and appear to freeze up. Let it finish, and it will report: <OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully.. <OSM> Leave CS.. In a similar way, fill in the BL and the CSC files. As these are much smaller, the signature checks will go much faster. [Use the CSC file, not the HOME_CSC file, in the CSC slot. This will completely erase your data on the tablet, which minimizes the likelihood of future problems. You will be erasing all of the /data partition later, so there is no point in saving your data now by using the HOME_CSC file.]c. Make sure that in the options, Auto Reboot is selected. Then click Start. The screen of the tablet should show a progress bar as your tablet is being restored to its original firmware.d. At this point, your tablet will reboot into the default recovery mode, with a full blue screen and an android figure with the spinning arrows. The tablet will then self reboot again (perhaps more than once). After a while, you will be greeted with the Welcome screen where you can select your language. Be patient.e. Power off the tablet using the power button4. FLASH TWRP
a. Enter Download mode (press and hold Home, Down Vol, and Power) until you see the Warning screen of the downloader mode. Press Vol up to continueb. (Re) Open up ODIN, confirm that ODIN can see your tablet,c. Important We do not want the tablet to automatically reboot after installing TWRP. If the tablet does reboot into Android before completing the steps in Section 4 and 5, there is a good chance the stock recovery will overwrite TWRP. So click the Options tab on the left and deselect Auto Reboot. After doing that, click the Log tab so you can monitor progressd. Click AP button on Odin. In popup, select twrp-[blah blah].img.tar (downloaded in step 1d), but make sure that the BL and CSC slots are unchecked, i.e. we will only be flashing an AP file this time. Then click Start. You will see the progress bar on your tablet. Watch the log window of Odin and wait for the message "<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 1 / failed 0)"5. ENTER TWRP AND CONFIGURE
a. At this point, from the last section, you should still be in Download mode on the tablet. It is important that, after flashing TWRP, to go straight to TWRP without letting the Android System reboot. To do this, Hold [Volume Down] + [Home] + [Power] to get out of Download mode and immediately swap to [Volume Up] (while still holding [Home] + [Power]) when the screen blanks. [credit: jcadduono]b. In a few secs, you will see the TWRP first screen, you can let go of all the buttons.c. If you don't see then TWRP boot splash try again from the start of 4. FLASH TWRP.d. Swipe to Allow Modifications. (For some reason, TWRP has some issues with the touchscreen for some tablets. If you experience this, expect to make several swipes or taps until it properly registers. You have succeeded when you see the classic 8-button main screen of TWRP.)e. Click Wipe then Format Data (do not just Wipe data), type yes and let it complete. Then click back until you get to the 8-button main screen of TWRP.f. Click the Mount button. Select Storage button, and confirm that the Internal Storage shows non-zero MB. If it is, you know that the /data partition is now mounted properly. However, since we put the needed install files on the microSD, go ahead and select Micro SD Card as our storage. Click Back until you are back at the 8-button main screen.g. Click the Install button, install the Magisk zip file you downloaded in step 1e and copied to your microSD. Once finished, click Back to get back to the install screen (do not reboot yet).h. Install the oreo encryption disabler zip file from step 1f. When it completes, you can press the Reboot System button and let your tablet reboot into Android. You can also disconnect the usb cable connecting the tablet from the computer. The tablet may reboot itself once or twice, let it do its thing, and eventually you will see the Samsung Welcome! Screen, where you can select your language.6. CONFIRM DATA ACCESS IN TWRP
a. Before going into configuring your tablet, go ahead and turn off the tablet and re-enter TWRP (Home, Vol up, Power).b. *Important* Since you will not be changing your system partition, this time, when you get to the "Keep System Read only?" screen, click the Keep Read Only button.c. In the 8-button screen of TWRP, click Mount, click Select Storage. Confirm that the Internal Storage is greater than zero MB. If it is, congratulations, you have TWRP installed with /data mounted.d. Reboot to System7. FUTURE USE OF TWRP
a. Unless you are planning to make changes to the System, continue to choose the Read Only System when you return to TWRP.B. [NOT YET TESTED]If you need to make changes to System, e.g. flash a new ROM, go back to Step 5 and install the ROM just before Step 5g

Good guide. In 5, a, at least for the t-820 and if assume other variants, you can hold power, vol up, and home until it boots to recovery. You don't need to hold the keys to boot the bootloader and then quickly switch to the vol up. It's a little easier for me to do it that way.

I would flash magisk *after* flashing a new ROM, i.e. install the ROM just before Step 5g.
Btw, I installed TWEAKED for T820 by @rorymc928 which comes already with encryption disabler.

Already asked but it SEEMS not possible because SuperSu was discountinued. But somebody has successfully installed it on Oreo 8.
I am new to rooting my Tab s3 so pardon me if any of my questions are redundant. I will be following the directions from post "Newbie-friendly: TWRP and Root for Samsung S3 Tablet". Can someone please confirm the following for me before I root -
1. I am running on the most recent firmware T820XXU2BRL1, do I need to complete process #3 REFLASH ORIGINAL FIRMWARE?
2. After I complete root process will my Tab s3 automatically be set to recognize SD Card as internal storage or will I need to complete another setting or process? This is my main reason to rooting.
3. Second reason is to remove bloatware. Does anyone know of a post advising which bloatware on Tab s3 to remove safely and which ones to leave alone?
4. After completing root process following directions from post "Newbie-friendly: TWRP and Root for Samsung S3 Tablet" has anyone experienced any Tab s3 functions or app not working properly? Is USB-OTG working?

Great post. Im having an issue. With my tab s3. Yesterday i was updating magisk manager and after i did it stopped charging. I thought my charger came unplugged but it didnt. Now the only way i can charge it is to put it in twrp and let it charge. But its unresponsive when its powered on and when its off it just loops the charging screen. But wont charge. I jave tried to revert back to a previous back up but had no luck. I was plannig on flashing stock firmware when i get back to my computer.. but any input would be greatly appreciated..

I don't know why your tab won't charge. Updating magisk should be totally unrelated to charging. Did you have any magisk modules that would have modified charging parameters?

I had the sony framework module installed for ps4 remote play. But that was it. I cant figure it out.

Quick question. I'm already on the latest firmware, my bootloader is unlocked so can I just run Odin, flash twrp and then any pre-rooted Rom? Or do I need to follow all these steps? It's been awhile since I've flashed anything and just want to make its done properly. TIA

That's correct.
Is that the only drawback?
On reboot I got: Verification Failed, Unable to restart your device. The Integrity verification has failed. You need to reset your device to factory default settings. This will erase all your data.
Now what?
UPDATE: Oh I see, I totally skipped e. "Click Wipe then Format Data". Now it's fixed and working properly. Now to remove some bloatware.

Altough not yet officially available for my country, I downloaded the version for the Netherlands (PHN-T825XXU3CSH9-20190909091851) from the SamFrew-site [https://samfrew.com/nl/download/Galaxy__Tab__S3__/evss/PHN/T825XXU3CSH9/T825PHN3CSH8/[/URL] . As one can anyway customize languages, etc., no problem.
Then I followed your guide step by step.
I added BusyBox, latest version from XDA developers []https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1929852 as last step, in 5. g
Altough written for OREO, all this steps work perfectly well on my Android PIE !
Including the use of the Ashxy's oreo encryption disabler of point 1.f
(I didn't find a similar disabler for Android Pie yet... Someone a better idea ?)
Rootchecker confirms that I have Root access and that BusyBox is indeed installed.

Thanks for the update! Just wondering, why did you add busybox and XDA developers at the end of step 5g? XDA developers could have been installed as a standard app once the tablet is up and running, no?
Why manually installing BusyBox at this point of the setup?
