APN settings not shown at all. Will this make it show up? - Omni Q&A

If I go into mobile settings there isn't an apn setting listed.
I want to edit the mss port to 8080 to bypass an adblock plus issue with it blocking mms messages.
I read if I edit the build.prop file and reboot and the APN settings will no longer be greyed out if I add this code
But my apn menu just isn't there at all.
Code:
ril.sales_code=LOL ro.csc.sales_code=LOL
But right the now all my data and calls work ok so I don't want to mess anything up. I can just live with out adblock if it may cause issues editing things.
I'm on sprint galaxy nexus with latest omnirom 4.4.4.
How can I make apn settings show up to edit?
Thanks

After posting this and some further digging, I was able to find a post online saying to use voice dialer and say "open a p n's" and it provides a link to the apns, which must be hidden. It allowed me to change my port from 80 to 8080 but adblock plus still wasn't allowing mms pics to go through on my rooted device. I have uninstalled adblock plus since its a known issue it blocks mms from what I read online.

Multiple APN use on Cyanogen 3.4

Hi,
Im using Cyanogen's 3.4 ROM with Hero Theme 1.3.5 and can not for the life of me figure out how MMS is supposed to work simultaneously with data/internet.
I have 2 separate access points configured on the phone, one for the internet and one for MMS.
If i create an MMS whilst the internet APN has the green radio button next to it checked it will not send. However if i go into the APN settings in the phone and check the radio button next to MMS i can send and receive it with no problems but can no longer browse the internet over GPRS / 3G
there is no settings in messages to tell the application which APN to use and it appears that in its current state, the phone is not smart enough to swap over temporarily to the correct APN and then swap back, it has to manually be done.
Is anyone else having this problem or is there something i am missing to get the phone using both APN's at the same time?
Thanks in advance.
Try setting the apn type to "mms" for the MMS one. The checkbox will dissapear, sa that might mean you can no longer manually select it, since it will be selected automatically
Ok i tried that and your right, it did remove the check box. but it didn't fix the problem unfortunately. just for good measure i changed my internet APN to have the APN type and that didnt work. so i removed it, left the MMS APN with the APN type of MMS, powercycled and tried again, still didnt work
Got any other ideas? is anyone able to replicate it? Cheers
You could try to use "default" for the Internet apn type, along with "mms" for the mms one. Other than that.. try searching the internet for the settings.

Simple Mobile APN help with Focus

So I ported over my number from AT&T to Simplemobile for the 40 dollar monthly unlimited everything plan. I have everything working except data. I keep trying to change the APN but it's not working. Does anybody know exactly what settings I need to get data to work on the Samsung Focus? My phone is unlocked by the way. Thanks!

What exactly have you tried so far?
Thanks for the reply! Well I've tried using the Samsung Network Profile app, tried changing the APN by naming the APN "simple." I've also tried using the names simplemobile, Simple Mobile, but anyways its not working. Supposedly simple is supposed to work for the HD7, but it's not working for the focus

I wonder...
Do this: delete all APN you have manually entered.
Change the radio to World instead of North America in Settings/Applications/radio
Then, switch the profile to AT&T from Network profile, reset, then switch back to Simplemobile and reset again.
I hope this does the trick, if it doesn't you would need specific information from Simplemobile...
Type simple in both username and password. I figured it out by chance.
Thanks for the help, can you tell me exactly how you have your focus setup? I'm trying what you said and it isn't working. Do you have the samsung network app installed?
goto the APN settings..
under APN name use value " WWW" thats it.. save it.. restart the phone (if required).
So mine stopped working as well. I have an old Tmobile Dash and it works through that. I do have the Network profile installed as well as the Samsung tools. My focus is totally unlocked, but right now it makes no difference.
So, I deleted the APN and started from scratch. Network settings installed as well as Samsung tools with the 3G marker checked. Even though the 3G cannot work on Tmobile, when I enabled it and then typed in simple for APN, it works.
Hope this helps.
Please Help
Hey can you guys please explain how you got the data and MMS to work on your simple mobile unlocked Focus. I have the Network profile App, but cant find the Samsung tools app on the market place.
Also, what goes into the APN settings (Proxy server, username, etc)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
if in the us your apn (att) would be
APN = wap.cingular
USER NAME = [email protected]
PASSWORD = cingular1
I think that I have internet working on my Samsung Focus on Simple Mobile. I say 'think', because often when I try to open a website I am taken to the url androidapi.t-mobile.com/apppack/mvno.html which displays a 503 error. I tested just now by turning off wi-fi, trying to open a web page over and over again. I got this URL and 503 error a few times and then a web page finally loaded. It's not terribly useful, but it occasionally works - so I'm assuming this is more a problem with the connection than with the settings. Sometimes the cell indicator flips between an E and a G. I don't know what the G means, it's not documented that I could find.
I cannot get MMS to work, and based on my research and some others have said this too, it cannot be made to work. Samsung has an app called "Network Profile" that will change the MMS settings for the Focus, but there is no option for Simple Mobile. Until Samsung updates the app for Simple Mobile, we are out of luck.
The settings I use to get data/internet to work on my Focus are:
Under: Settings - Cellular
Data connection: On
Data roaming options: Don't Roam
Network selection: Automatic
Edit/Create APN
APN: simple
User name: [blank]
Password: [blank]
Proxy server/URL: 216.155.165.50
Proxy port: 8080
Windows Phone 7 & Simple Mobile & Internet
The thing I think that is left out of most of the instructions is to go to the secret menu by going to the dialer and entering ##634# and then go to MMS and change the apn there to simple.
Now my Dell Venue Pro is on Simple Mobile and the Internet finally works!
How did you change you MMS settings in diagnostic mode? I can only see the code but cannot find a code to edit the mms or data settings.
I am still stuck even after adding simple apn

The reason most people leave that step out is because it is not a step they can follow. The original question was about the Focus, and the Focus doesn't let users specify the MMS settings. From what I've read, only the Dell Venue Pro gives users direct access to the MMS settings. Which is why it's the only WP7 phone that Simple Mobile officially supports for MMS.
Samsung has a network app for the Focus that allows you to pick a carrier and then it changes the settings as appropriate. Unfortunately, it doesn't support many carriers.
I'm considering making the switch to TMobile prepaid - TMobile shows up in the nework app along with AT&T and so should be supported.
UPDATE: Switched to TMobile. Using the "Network Profile" app set to automatic network profile changing = On and Active Profile = T-Moile USA, I received MMS messages right away. Will do internet testing later. For 10 bucks less a month I would've preferred to stay with Simple Mobile, but since Microsoft / Samsung lock the MMS settings down & Samsung hasn't updated their Network Profile app to support more carriers, I had to make the switch. Glad at least the mms piece is working.
I was able to successfully use both 3G data AND send/receive MMS with the following settings:
APN: simple
MMS:
MMS APC: simple
MMSC: h77p://smpl.mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapeng (Replace sevens with "t"; new user controls...)
AUTH TYPE: None
All other fields are to be left blank.
As mentioned, these settings worked for me marvelously. ...For roughly ten minutes. Then the phone wouldn't wake up, I had to do a battery pull, and mms stopped working. When I go to check the mms settings in EM, it holds onto every value (including blank ones) save for the following:
MMS PORT: (blank)
AUTH TYPE: "None"
Whenever I select "Apply" to save settings, it always force resets those two values to the following:
MMS PORT: 80
AUTH TYPE: "PAP"
Hopefully this is all easy to understand. I've tried at length to search both xda and the world-wide-webz for an answer, but I'm coming up blank. I've always been able to figure this junk out for myself, but this is my first WP7 device, and I'm all kinds of 'tarded with it, haha.
You might want to enable the automatic sim settings. This setting is off by default due to samsung. I think the reason is to keep people on the same carrier that the phone was originally intended for use ie. samsung focus Att
1. Bring up diagnotics app ##634#
2. open diagnostics app located in your apps list (swipe left from start screen)
3. in the diagnostic app type 40*047#3
4. there will be a confimation prompt to confirm autosim detection
5. then the phone will restart and you should have MMS and cellular functionality and internet
This has helped my samsung focus from dropping in and out of my 3g connection...wonderful ...hope this works for you and confirm if it does work please.
I take no credit for this method and here is the original post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1241721
I got mine working without mms. Jailbroke the phone and followed the steps to enable internet connection sharing... that added samsung tools. I don't know what in the end made the difference but I was able to use network profile to tmobile and then add apn simple and it worked.
Since then I moved to straight talk .. att.mvno worked for them for apn but still no mms.

Locked Verizon APN Settings

Good Evening All, (In the East Coast anyway)
I have done a lot of searching in XDA and Google and I can't seem to find too much detail aside from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1935144
My question is specifically for the Verizon Retail Samsung Galaxy S5. Since we are rooted, is it possible to navigate to where the APN settings are stored so changes can be made to them despite the fact that the OS locks us out of it? I read that if you use a non Verizon SIM card, the APN settings can be altered as needed.
Does anybody know what in the OS prevents us from changing the APN settings or know if there is some kind of way to force the OS to allow us to change the APN settings? My main goal was to edit the "APN Protocol" settings to force it to use IPv4 instead of allowing the network to use either or. Applications such as Opera Max, due to the Kitkat VPN bug, won't work unless the mobile data connection is an IPv4 address.
Edit: May found found my answer / solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...ates when the APN settings may be configured?

My fix for APN Settings SM-G900V [Verizon Galaxy S5]
Okay guys,
I figured I should post this since I can't find anything thing else online solving this issue.
It took me a couple hours of digging around and teaching myself some basic android stuff but I got APN edit access on my Verizon Galaxy S5 G900V APN settings. First, I wanted access because I switched to straight talk and found I wasn't receiving MMS's. But... Verizon locks access to APN's. I won't tell you the story of how I figured it out, I will just tell you what I did and let you make the decision to do it yourself or not AT YOUR OWN RISK.
1) Your phone must be rooted... look around online and choose your own method- it just needs to be rooted. (can't post a link, sorry)
2) install: Build Prop Editor and APN Settings apps from the App store
-----Build Prop Editor allows you to change system values
-----APN Settings is a menu shortcut that you'll need
3) From another forum, I got this information:
** This forum is written for a different phone (Note3) and so are the codes... but they should work long enough to create an APN...
a)Once [build prop editor] is installed find and open Build Prop Editor
b)Hit the menu button and select Edit
c)Scroll to the bottom of screen and add the following lines
#Code:
ril.sales_code=LOL
ro.csc.sales_code=LOL
d)Hit the save button at the top right hand corner of the screen (looks like a floppy disk)
e)Once this is done saving restart the phone
----This part is where it gets weird. Adding the codes in build.prop creates menu issues so you can't navigate to the APN menu
4) open the app that you downloaded in step 2 (APN Settings), that will bypass the menu.
5) determine the APN you need to create and create it (depends on your provider, do some research) (again, can't post url links)
6) go back to build.prop.editor and delete the lines that you added in step 3 and reboot the phone
7) navigate to your APN settings via the menu, the APN you created will not be visible but it will still be there. Select the Verizon APN so you can connect your phone to 3G or 4G data.
8) Try MMS or group texts
That should be it... If you don't get MMS's go through the process again and try another APN (you may have the wrong one) or you can delete all but the factory APN's to return your phone to the way it used to be.
This worked for me and I hope it works for you too.
P.S. sorry this is a bit late in all the forums
Hello. I was able to make all the changes listed above. I am running into a problem when I change the mnc to my provider straight talk. Basically whatever apn I was attempting to modify is deleted, and I run I to the same problem when creating new apns. I can enter a name and change the apn but that's it. If I make any other changes the apn is no longer in my list.
Thanks,

Hey. So I am not too sure why you don't have permissions to edit apn settings. These are the apn settings Iaccessed and used to get it working on mine... then it is hidden when deleting the build prop codes.
Name
APN
MMSC
MMS Proxy
MMS Port
APN Type
If you don't have access to create a new APN and change those settings following my method, I don't know what to say... Is your phone model a SM-G900V running android 4.4.4? - that's what mine is.
The only other thing I could think is maybe the kernel version when you rooted your phone. I have 3.4.0 and used towelroot and oden to flash it.
Also, I am using Textra as my messaging application and manually configure the APN in those settings to the same one I created.
Hate bumping old threads, but I feel it's relevant in this case. I used the above method to successfully edit the APN and regain internet access and get MMS. However, if I go to Settings>More Networks>Mobile Networks>Access Point names, there are none listed at all. I am not getting 4G signal on my SM-G900V running android 4.4.2.
Is there a way to get the actual vzwinternet apn to appear in that menu?

Any updated fixes for this that don't mess with the APN menu? Running Deodexed Optimal ROM and just got my S5 activated on ST. It appears that I can receive photos, but I can't use any apps without being told I have no data/network connection unless WiFi is enabled. Calls and texts appears to work fine. Can not add new APN or edit the verizon one that's in there.

I have the same problem as you with an LG G4 from Verizon on straighttalk. I had ST fix their end to get my data working. They have the Verizon APN settings saved on their server for your phone but their settings have to match your settings. Since you cannot add/edit your APN they have to delete their settings and let it pull from your phone. Verizon lets them use certain APNs for their side of the network, that is why their settings are different than your phone and why they will strongly ask you to update them (even though you cannot). I found this information out because their APN settings got updated when my service renewed. I'm not sure if this will be a problem on each renew or if Verizon/ST will work that out.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 g900v. I am currently using Straight Talk BYOP program. I am having some issues with service and having 3g instead of 4g. It is a 4g capable phone. I am trying to get into the APN settings to change it up to Straight Talks Information, but it is Locked (greyed) out. Is their any way to access this? I think if you search you can find info on XDA about enabling all radios for your phone. if its rooted you can try an apk like signal booster or one of those. They have advanced settings that let you select CDMA/GSM/LTE and prioritize your connection.
If you are rooted you can use coded in the dialer to access those same settings and change your connection prefs.
If I had a link I would share.

I ended up just having to call Straight Talk and they did something on their end that took effect at or around midnight that night. Problem is I had to call them again the following month because after refilling my airtime a day before cutoff I lost my data(which is weird because the new card went in to my reserve). They did something on their end that immediately took effect after a reboot of my device. I'm hoping I don't have to do this every time I refill.
Straight Talk only works for 1 month at time

I have the same problem. I have 2 Verizon Samsung S5 that I have transferred to Straight Talk. Every month for the past 4 months I lose my data signal (calls work fine) . I have to call ST tech support and spend between 15 - 45 minutes (depending on how knowledgeable the tech person is) to get it reset so it works. Each phone does this on a different day so I have to do this twice a month. :crying:
They reset the provisioning on their end. Then I power off and reboot and it works for another month. Does anyone know what I have to set the APN to to fix this problem?
When I used the method in this thread and take the lines out of the build.prop, Only Verizon Internet shows under the APN. Do I need to add a ST APN and not comment out the lines?
I know this is old, but I can't find any way to edit apn settings for my nougat phone on straight talk through verizon towers. Nothing works, even with root.

Thanks,
I know this is really old, but if someone is searching for the unable to edit APN for a Verzion phone, I have a fix.
Connect the phone for ADB debugging. Then open ADB shell and use the command:
am start -a android.intent.action.INSERT content://telephony/carriers --ei simId -1
It won't let you edit the current one or list, but you can add a new one now, and use it. Just reboot the phone after the new APN is in place.

Edit APN - Rooted Galaxy S5

I've just updated my rooted Galaxy S5 to the OE posted elsewhere here. I was hoping this update would take care of a problem that I've had since the prior update - I can send, but not receive pictures via text message (MMS).
I did some research into the matter and found that the issue is with a setting within Settings / More networks / Mobile networks, under Access Point Names. In the access point name for Verizon, there should be a server set under MMSC that's supposed to allow this to happen properly. Problem is, I can't change anything under there. When I go into Access Point Names, the + at the top to add an APN is grayed out, and clicking the settings (...) icon only has an option of "Reset to default" - which is also grayed out. If I touch the one existing entry for Verizon Wireless (VZWINTERNET), it shows all the settings, which are all grayed out and can't be edited. The MMSC field is not set, and because I can't edit it, I can't change it to the correct value so that I can specify a server as I've found in other pages on the subject.
Unless that's old information and a MMSC server doesn't need to be set, in which case I'm still at a loss for why I can't actually send a picture via text message.....
If there really needs to be no value set in the MMSC field for text messages to contain a picture, I'd appreciate knowing that.
And if not (heck, even if it is, I'd like to know), then is there some method by which the APN settings can be edited on a rooted phone?

Sprint note 4 lte + data enabled fix (miui 7)

NOTE: THIS IS FOR THE US SPRINT NOTE 4 WITH MIUI 7
Ok so I know it has been a while since I last updated this post. I switched back to TW rom and was planning to just wait till either a fix has been
made or the developer fixed the issue. i just tried it again last night, dualbooted both miui from both gtbluesky and bxfxf.
I updated them both to the newest versions and it seems the issue has still not been fixed. I have also seen talk on bxfxf's post about
the thread being dead so i am going to be concentrating on miui from gtbluesky. To be clear i have not found a fix for the issue. I did however
make an app to use as a workaround.
Prerequisites
Miui by either gtbluesky(Recomended) or bxfxf
Xposed framework by rovo89
wsm (xposed installer) by BurgerZ and BalcanGSM
GravityBox[KK] by C3C076
call/text fix (made with Tasker)
Downloads
gtbluesky's rom or bxfxf's rom
Xposed wsm
Gravitybox
call/text fix
apns-conf.xml
instructions
Fallow instructions to install the rom of your choice i have not tested the app on bxfxf's rom so if it does not work as planned let me know and ill make a separate one for it ASAP.
then install and activate xposed and Gravitybox (may have to reboot phone a couple times)
install call/text fix and Enable autostart.
To enable autostart open Security click permissions then autostart and toggle call/text fix to On.
(optional) if you have not already manually added apn from old post
use a root explorer and place the apns-conf.xml file in /system/etc and Change file permissions to 644 rw-r--r--
P.S. i did attempt to make an installable zip... its embarrassing to say but it is out of my skill level right now
i couldnt figure out if if was that i just failed horribly or if my dualbooting the rom was interfearing...
if someone wants to do the work for me be my guest i'll add it to the post
Features
automatically switches from LTE to 3G when you open Phone, Contacts,or Messaging.
It does not have an interface it is just a background service though if the service is ever deactivated or killed (which shouldnt happen) click on the icon to Restart the service.

If you find any let me know
OLD THREAD
I've been using this rom a couple days now and have been searching for a way to enable lte data but all ive been able to do with the current settings
is enable the radio on 4g but still no internet.
what i did was flashed back to stock rooted 5.1.1 and dualbooted miui7 by bxfxf (http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-sprint/development/miui7-sprint-samsung-galaxy-note4-t3235227)
by installing to the data partition with dualboot patcher by chenxiaolong (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447534)
Now in the stock rom i used the msl code for my phone to view the LTE APN
and copied the info to my pc then booted into miui7
Note: dualbooting is not required for this to work but was necessary to get the APN and is fascinating if anyone is interested.
Step one
once miui is booted go to settings/mobile networks/Access Point Names and select Sprint (should be the only apn there)
Here are the settings
Name = Sprint
APN = n.ispsn
Proxy = Not set
Port = Not set
Username = Not set
Password = Not set
Server = Not set
MMSC = http://mms.sprintpcs.com
MMS proxy= 68.28.31.7
MMS port= 80
MCC= 310
MNC= 120
Authentication type=None
APN type = default,mms (can add in more supl,dun,fota but i think those are stock specific so i left them out)
APN protocol = ipv4/ipv6
APN roaming = ipv4/ipv6
Bearer = Unspecified
MVNO type = None
Important: now save apn.
Step Two
open dialer and type in *#*#4636#*#* and select Phone Information
scroll down and select the first setting and change it to
LTE,CDMA and EvDo or LTE,CDMA,EvDo, GSM/WCDMA
and exit
Step Three
Reboot and Enjoy 4G LTE Data
UPDATE This fix only updates the apn to give access to 4g lte data and mms. The only issue left is OUTGOING sms and calls.(can still receive sms and answer calls on 4g) Unfortunately that is NOT an APN issue. An APN only effects DATA and MMS. (You can in fact actually use your phone to call and send sms with no apn at all.) However if i am not mistaken it is an issue with how the rom utilizes the modem.
temp fix...ish when not using internet switch to 3g only (sorry guys that's all we can do till someone fixes this issue)
This may work on other US phones with miui though I'm not sure
If this does not work for you and you loose signal open APN settings again and select Reset to Defaults at the bottom then reboot
This works great. Thanks a lot for sharing! I thought I'd note that while the internet was blazing fast, I could not make calls until the data information was changed to LTE,CDMA,EvDo, GSM/WCDMA. That is, calls did not send on simply LTE, CDMA, EvDo.
Even after changing the apn and changing over to LTE,CDMA,EvDo,GSM/WCDMA I still cant get call or text to go out..... but thanks for the LTE fix
To be honest I never noticed till you said something an it seem to only happen when it is connected to 4g and only when making a call or sending a text. I tested it and I can receive messages while on 4g and receive and answer calls as well I'm at a loss for why they don't work when making them. Also When the settings are all the same and it switches to 3g itself when no 4g is around it works perfactly. I'll look into it further thank you for bringing it to my attention.
