Just wanted to rant about this being the slipperiest phone I've ever had. Just dropped outside a training class for work. Thankfully I was using Spigen Slim Armor that cushioned the shock and only ended up with a knick on the case itself. I can literally grip this phone and have it slip through my hands.
If you have the slim armor on it, wouldn't it be the CASE that is slippery?

1st: Check your local supermarket. There are a lot of nice grease regulator sops available! they are nice for your hands making it soft and with good grip  (This was only a joke!!)
2nd and now the serious part there are some pretty good back covers gives the phone a nice grip feelling

Why all phones don't have a rubberish layer like the Nexus 5 or original HTC Evo 4G is beyond me.
Seems very stupid.

First off you said its slippery and you dropped WHILE using a case. So that makes the case slippery not YOUR PHONE.
AND SECOND: i found with the right temperature outside its actually quit sticky.

Agreed... The M8 is worse also..
i do question how you can say a phone is slippery when its in a case as that would mean the case is slippery as you arent holding onto the phone itself. looking at that case though i can see it matches the phone curves so maybe thats what you mean? anyway, in or out of a case i didnt find mine particularly slippery, although ive got large hands so maybe thats why it fits in my hand better?

Another thing you can do is buy the LG Slim Guard case. It is definitely more grippy than the standard back, and gives some edge/side protection.
This phone is pretty slippery. I have never dropped a phone before. My wife drops her joint at least 2-3 times through its life where we have to replace it and I have never had a case for a phone while she always needed one. This phone is different and I am kinda "irked" about it (Not seriously of course, but just disappointed in myself I can't stop dropping it before I catch 3000 posts of hate). I have dropped this thing at least 4-5 times, the part that irks me is that I drop it because I LOVE the engineering of the phones shell.
That said, I threw on a Speigel case and tempered glass and haven't had a problem dropping it since, but I sure hate having it on there even as "thin" as this case is because when I pop it off to switch memory cards I feel the lightness and curve of the original design and fall in love with it all over again... but I don't want to my wife to have the excuse to say "well you dropped your G3 so leave me alone!" so I leave that Speigel case on at all times! =)

So the story is I accidentally dropped it on ceramic tile and it bounce a couple of times before it finally stop.
What amazes me is that there's no single scratch or dent on it; and everything was intact when I pickup the phone from the floor. And no, I don't use any case at all. Yay for NS build quality!
But I think I need to get a case since the back of the phone feels slippery. Or is there any battery cover replacement that made from rubber?

Telus sells the Casemate for the nexus S in store. it adds a little more bulk, but overall i'm very happy with the case.
You could buy a cheap InvisibleShield-like full body protector on ebay and just use the back part for grip.
It did make a dent at one corner after I dropped it from my desktop on to a 300W transformer sitting next to my desk

Samsung should have done a back cover that extented through the whole phone's back, the bump in the lower part gets scratched very easily, am i the only one? and yeah i dont use a case on my phone, a cover plate destroys the slim figure of the phone
The "bump" on the bottom of the phone does actually get a lot of scratches

It's because of this I bought a "case-mate barely there" case.
I've never had a case before and didn't want one for this phone because I didn't want to loose the thinness either. Very glad I did though. The phone is still very thin and (on the black case) has a nice matt, slightly grippy texture which I personally find preferable to the standard backing.

is the touch still fully functional now ?
I see this thread and shake my head.
Getting a decent case is the first step to protecting a phone that you just spend a lot of money on. It might make it a little less thinner, but it will offer better grip and allows you stop babying every time you set in the table.
As for the dude that broke the glass, that was probably like the one weak spot. GorillaGlass isn't supposed to scratch or crack. Just avoid putting the phone in the same pocket as your keys and you shouldn't need to waste money on a screen protector.
This thread is painful.

gorilla glass is NOT scratch proof, keys won't damage the screen but dust will , the kind of dust/dirt that it's usually on people's pockets
I only ever keep it in a pocket without keys or anything else so never worry about a case.
The phone was on the floor next to my chair charging up while i was watching tv, knocked a fork off the coffee table and you guessed it, right on the phone.
No screen protector is gonna protect against that happening lol.
Everything is working fine actually. just feels a bit iffy when sliding over the long cracks in the glass.
Will be going in for new screen under insurance claim as soon as i been on my hols. so stuck with it like this for a few weeks.
Where can I get one from?
Anyone using this on their nexus? How about on the back side, which is what I am most interested in?

I'm interested in this stuff as well.. I can't imagine it's removable though..?
Personally, I rather know that I have put something down on the screen via screen protector instead of having to second guess whether I put enough liquid armor on, or whether I covered all the spots with proper amount. Just too much uncertainty.
edit: Just read that you have to REAPPLY the liquid armor every 6 months..... yeah for $25 a bottle, I don't think that's worth it.
Doesn't work. It's more like a polish than anything else.

Is this any different than Rain-X?
I decided to give it a try. I really just want the phone to not slide around on the back. I've seen reviews saying that this leaves a little bit if a grip or stick feel to it, so I'm hoping that will be the case. I never have scratched any of my old phones, so I'm willing to take a chance. I'll let you guys know when I get it and after a few days or use if I can notice a difference.
By the way it's only 14 bucks shipped off Amazon.
If anyone wants to do a real comparison and has some old phones lying around you could always apply this to one of them and start do a real scratch test so we can see if it works or not.

I would think it's glass since people have shattered their screens but I've read mixed reviews. Anyways, it would be awesome if you actually did do a real test. Not with a pair of keys or scissors, but a real one with sand. See if that liquid armor really does put a film over the screen

That's pretty much it, there's no scratch protection whatsoever from this stuff. It makes the glass slightly more grippy and fingerprint resistant. I have a bottle of it gathering dust on my shelf.
I've been using it on my nexus 4, front and back. Although after 10 days of use I don't see any scratches (even hairline), it just doesn't feel quite enough psychologically. I'll be buying a screen protector today. Just don't know which one yet. Any suggestions?
P.S. I also applied this on other devices, like my motoactv etc, and no scratches there either. So it looks like it works, but no way to say for sure.

Bought the bottle, it says 50 odd applications, v v v easy to use, zero tackiness or texture, put it on my N4 and my kids s3 and Note and the various tabs we have, it feels very smooth as good as naked screen and no sign of a scratch on any of the devices.
It's way way better than any screen protector I've ever had and I'm good at applying them, I hate the way they feel, attract grease and get covered in a myriad tiny scratches and that's if you manage to get bubble free.
I was gona buy a Spigen curved crystal for the N4 like I did for the s3 but liquid is better and a lot cheaper.
Being that the phone is made out of aluminum you would think it won't break as easy as any plastic phone.
I'm considering going without a case due the fact that a case just takes away all the beauty of the phone.

A lot of people buy phones then resell them to get the next big thing. You drop the phone, the resale value plummets.
You don't have to get a dam otter box and cover it up. Just a clear case would do, or any of those skin protectors.

Could care less about resale value, I bought it to use it and enjoy it, and in the case of the One (and One X), how they felt in my hand and how they looked had more to do with my decision to buy them as the hardware specs.
I've got a drawer full of old phones, I don't resell anything, though I might give one away or loan one out.
I drop it and break it, oh well, I'll get another one. I put a blemish on it, oh well, I live with it.
Scratches on the camera lens are no big deal either, it's a cell phone camera, it looks like crap to varying degrees even when it's un-scratched.

My One X is in pretty good shape, no protection. I have a scratch on the glass that was clearly from a diamond ring. Other than that there is miniscule damage in one place on the metal strip around the screen.
The SIM tray looks atrocious, but protection wouldn't help with that since I use it; it appears to be made of some kind of soft cheese. A new one is less than a fiver.

Pulled up to 7-11 this morning for some coffee, One was on my lap, parked, opened door, got out, SLAP!!! It fell face down flush with the ground (asphalt). Forget the Otterbox, if you can get this instead go for it.
I bought one the other day and it is easily comparable to the Otterbox.

The One X is tough. I've dropped it on my hardwood floor many times, phone still looks great. Tiny dent on the bottom. Still upgrading to a One though, I'll just be more careful.
I did the same a few weeks back , is anyone going to attempt to replace the speaker covers where the dents are ?

That's awesome.

Seriously, you just got lucky. The glass WILL shatter if you drop it face down. Had dropped my Note II on the face and luckily got away with it too. But more often that not it does break. Take care of it better next time though

that has to be the ugliest case ive ever seen... lmao
I was shoved down a flight of steps yesterday by an inconsiderate schoolboy, and there are now two large cracks across the screen of my phone. While the phone still works, I want to replace the screen and speaker grilles. Fingers crossed, hopefully HTC knows how to fix this.

i hope you drop kicked that devil and send the parents a bill.
He was alone, I yelled at him, he cried, I relented. I'm weak like that. Ah well.
Seems the 4 corners of the phone are slightly raised as I dropped mine face down and only one corner has a little nick.
HTC phones have always been indestructible for me especially the screens. Galaxy s3 and note 2 screens are very fragile.

I came here to say that. Hideous.
Exactly how I broke my nexus 4 didn't have that same fate though. Positive thing about that situation is I had a excuse to buy the ONE lol

I was just thinking the same.
I'm a fan of the Baseus Slim flip case. It's cheap, good quality and it protects the screen.
I never thought I'd like a flip case but it's actually really unobtrusive and when I'm home I take it out.

I loved the slip case for the Sensation. It was light, thin, aesthetically pleasing and protected the phone really well. I don't understand why HTC didn't continue making them in that style. They went back to the chunky ones with the pull tab for the One X and they don't do a slip case for the One at all. I much prefer being able to feel the lines of such a beautiful device when I'm using it.

I would never have a flip case that holds my bank cards though. Firstly it's very nature makes it larger than necessary but you're also making a very convenient little package and advertisement for muggers and pick pockets. Not clever if you live in a city.

I gotta ask you something guys.
I'm trying to decide what to buy. Flipcase, pouch or some clear gel case.
I really want to buy a pouch because I don't want to hide this beauty. So my question is; when do you think people drop their phone most? while talking or while taking it out of pocket? I mean if I got pouch it'll protect it if I drop when taking out of my pocket. But It wouldn't help if it was in my hand (obviously)
I always like pouches. All of my phones look like new when I finish with them.
In my opinion, skins don't protect the phone it's so easy to scratch the screen in your pocket and screen protectors look like ****.
Flip covers aren't ideal either. You could easily get keys or loose change between the screen and the flap, when in your pocket.
I like pouches because you hold the phone as it was intended to be and you view it as intended. What's the point of having a beautiful device if it's hidden under layers of gel, leather or plastic? It's like everyone who has an iPhone is always telling me how beautiful it is and that's why they don't want an android phone. Then I ask them the last time they actually saw their beautiful iPhone out of it's case and that makes them think.
The difficulty I'm finding with the One and a slip case is as I pointed out above. HTC made a great slip case for the Sensation but the last few they've made have sucked. I have a One X slip case and it's huge both on the phone and in the hand. I've tried loads of third party slip cases in the past, with other phones, and the main issues are quality and that they're generally ill fitting. Not to mention they often look like crap.
The reason I started buying official HTC cases was that I was sick of buying new cases all the time and I saw one cheap and decided to try it. I have to say that the quality is generally way better with their own cases and I've bought official ever since (I've owned six HTC phones). This time round though I think they've screwed it up. The official cases for the One are too bulky. I want a tight fitting slip case that covers the top of the phone well but is easy enough to remove the phone from to answer quickly.
You also have to consider the material. When I first started buying cases I really didn't want leather and I bought ones made from textiles but they aren't so easy to slip in and out of your pocket. In fact gel cases pretty much grip the material in your pockets, this could cause you to fumble with the phone to get it out of your pocket and drop it. I say that because it has happened to me before and I had a few near misses. So. Anyway. I ended up realising why it makes a lot of sense to go with leather. It's just as easy to get in and out of your pocket as with no case at all.
