Display Calibration profile - Xperia SP General

Hi,
Anexed, you will find the calibration profile for our phone. Well, for my phone at least, as you can have a different SP serie with a different display caracteristics. To install the profile on PC, double clic XperiaSP-Sat5.7+Tint50.icc, then it will appear named "latestDisplayProfile" in photoshop.
How I did that:
- First, I set the white balance (in settings) with : Tint=50 and Saturation 5.5. With that, my white point is near 6500K. Also, Bravia engine must be disable.
- Then I used my i1DisplayPro colorimeter with the free X-Rite ColorTrue app. This app is not available on Google Play as it is supposed to work with a few devices. But I was able to download it in a different way and it works on XperiaSP !
What can we do with this display profile:
- If your desktop monitor is calibrated, in photoshop you can simulate how an image will look like on the phone. Usefull for themers.
- In photoshop, you can convert profiled images (srgb or adobeRGB) to this profile. Doing that, you can visualize a photo on the phone as close as possible to the original. It can be usefull for a nice wallpaper.
An other possibility, is using x-rite app to visualize your pictures corrected on the phone. For that:
- installl QuickPic from googleplay, xrite does not works with SemcAlbum.
- download my xrite backup (titanium backup) : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/32890756/XperiaCalib/TB-XriteCalib.zip
- extract zip and put the 3 files in your titanium backup folder
- restore ColorTRUE using TB
- Launch it: it will say it's not able to found a device (colorimeter) but don't worry. Just click the gallery icon and it will launch QuickPic forcing pictures calibration. You will be able to visualize better your photos.
- Don't forget to disable bravia and set white balance to the same values of mines.
That's it !
[EDIT] Added a color profile for native white point (when you use cm7 or any rom without the white point setting from sony). Using X-rite app you will have to replace overwrite the icc profile in /data/data/org.x-rite*/*icc*/latestDisplayProfile.icc

Thank you. I did the same with my Spyder. So if there are Spyder users out there you can do exactly the same with the SpyderGallery App. Also for free in the Play Store. Works with all Android devices.

Hi!
Sorry for posting my message to this topic. I have Sony XPeria Z1 compact, not Xperia SP. But there are not so much people interested in making color profiles for their phones. So I hope you can help me here.
I have calibrated my phone display with ColorTrue. And I can watch my photos in QuickPic using ColorTrue. But the thing is that photos open very slowly when using ColorTrue. So I'd like to convert my photos to this profile in Photoshop. But I can not find *.icc file. I have only this:
/storage/emulated/0/xrite/iccprofiles/profileData.xml
Can anyone help me to get ICC-profile for my phone?

You need a root explorer and then you can pick up the profile in /data/data/com.xrite.mobile*/*icc*/latestDisplayProfile.icc

Thanks! I have converted my photos to my phones profile. Now they look on the phone exactly as I want them to see.

Where can I find background photo on my G1?

Hi:
I installed backgrounds.apk and used it to change the background photo every day. It looks every ok.But recently; I acquire some information form other way that it will cost my Ram room. So,how can I find these photos which have been downloaded or made as background?
Thanks!
shao
I'm not too sure where the application gets the images from (as I don't have it installed) but I vaguely remember that it uses flickr to run a search and then picks an image at random?
If so just pop over to flickr.com and punch in a keyword to find some fantastic images there to save and use as a wallpaper.

Backgrounds.apk? Is that "Wall switch"?
Changing your background won't eat your RAM, a background service the app is running might. Any RAM it is using will be minimal. You can save the currently applied wallpaper using the app "Wallpaper Set and Save".

photographer's app?

I am looking for an app to assist with medium/large format photography. Currently I use a spreadsheet to note the various settings for each frame, however there was an app (photoassist) I used on my old WM5 device that had drop down menus, though it doesn't work on the TP2.
Something that can also use the phone's camera as a lightmeter would be great too.

I second that I would love to not buy another Gossen Digipro F I would even through a $100 bounty on this. That will still save me $170.
Resco Photo Viewer can handle .raw, .tiff, .png, etc... files. Spb Imageer can do the same.
However, large format photos are going to cause extreme issues. The OS has a memory limitation of 32MB, so anything approaching that size will cause your device to crash...
Could you perhaps elaborate on a feature set you're looking for in this application? If I understand correctly you're wanting a way to record information about your individual frame settings, not a way to view or arrange these images on your device, correct?
I'm not promising anything, but depending on your requirements I might be able to assist you in creating an application that suits your needs.

Yes, it would be a pretty simple app. Basically there would be multiple drop down fields that are prepopulated with different values based the prior selection, some thing like-
Film size- 120/220/4x5/8x10, then presuming 120 is selected, brings up the next field,
Image format- 6x6/6x7/6x9/6x17, then presuming 6x6 is selected, brings up
Film type- Negative/Color Reversal/B&W, then
ISO- 50/100/160/200/etc, and so forth.
The above would be "master fields" that are global to the film I select, and subfields would then include the frame #, aperture, shutter speed, EV, etc.
All the info would then be recorded into a spreadsheet or database for later viewing.
The side app to turn the phone's camera into a lightmeter would be as simply as providing a live output of EV (exposure value) based on what the camera is seeing. A plus would be if it could output ISO/shutter speed/aperture values too, but we'll take things one at a time.

Atrix Screen Color profile

Hello,
I`m new on this device and just make a color profile that seems to be acceptable.
It`s not perfect but usefull to simulate in photoshop how an image will looks like on the Atrix. It`s good for themers.
Just download attached file and put the .icc file in windows\system32\spool\drivers\color. Then in photoshop : CTRL-Y, go to menu display/image format and choose the profile. Also tick Keep RVB numbers.
As you can see in the attached picture, atrix screen is not able to reproduce all the sRGB color space, (very) bad screen ...
Note that if your monitor is not correctly calibrated this will not be useful.
Enjoy.
That's a very spikey gamut. I just made my own using a Huey and Argyll on Linux. I ran an X server on my Atrix and had the 'dispread' program display on it. My result is much more like sRGB, just transposed a little in the green direction.
I've attached the profile I made and screen shots of 'iccexamin' displaying the gamut of your profile and mine.

Thanks for that, I didn`t know about this linux soft and will try later.
What sensor are you using (mind is spyder3) ? Did you run a calibrate or profile only process ?
My first impressiom is that my profile shows me a better result in photoshop. I will test it with other images.
Calibration subject is a headache subject ...
A new and better profile attached.
@IanTester, I think you have a problem in your calibration process.
an other one. seems slightly better ...
What exactly do you mean by "calibration"? The documentation for Argyll says that calibration of a display means "1) Changing controls or internal settings that it has. 2) Applying curves to its color channels."
I've made a second profile using the same data as before but using a different "algorithm" argument with colprof. The previous profile used '-as', which generated a "shaper + matrix", this one used "-aX" to generate "XYZ cLUT + matrix".
I understand the basics of colour management but don't really know much about generating profiles. The dry and error-prone documentation for Argyll doesn't help much. Basically I have a shell script that I run to profile my monitor and it seems to work with the few colour-managed programs I have. Any help would be welcome.

Hello,
I just installed dispcalGUI on my Fedora partition. It seems to be a good calibration soft, easier to use than argyll ...
Then I tried to configure a remote desktop via VNC but it`s too slow. The image generated on linux arrives to late on the android screen ...
So I need your help too. What apps are you using to have a copy of your linux desktop on your phone ?
There are usually two modes when using a colorimeter : calibration & caracterization. Wee need the second one as it is just to use the profile to simulate the atrix screen. Calibration is to be loaded into the graphic card and correct as well as possible the screen colors. I don`t know any app able to load a color profile in android system, unfortunately.
Is it more clear ? Sorry for english ...
Can any one tell me of Software for windows that would allow me to output my screen via HDMI? I have the hardware but no available Linux terminal to run it.

There's no way to apply a color profile system wide in Android?
There kinda is. If you're on CM, you can go to Settings > CyanogenMod settings > Interface > Render effect. There you'll find a predefined set of somethings that can loosely be called color profiles.
Oh yeah I almost forgot about that one.

Lowering Camera Resolution

Hi!
Personally, I find 21 MP to be a bit excessive in terms of how much space pictures take up, so I'm wondering how I should downscale my pictures from this phone.
1. Lowering the resolution inside the camera app.
2. Get another app to shrink my pictures after I take them.
My concern is that if I set a lower resolution inside the camera app, I will only be using a portion of the pixels on the sensor or the app might use a really fast compression algorithm that produces low quality output. Does anyone know what really happens when you don't select the highest resolution inside the camera app?
Thanks in advance!)
I shoot in 16x9 which lowers resolution to ~16 mp

If you're rooted then I can help you, if not then I can't.
If you are rooted you can enable developer options within the moto camera app (not to be confused with developer options within the phone settings).
There are a few ways to do it but the way I used was the xposed module "moto checkbox".
If you use it just go to camera options and enable development settings (it says something like that). Be sure to go to statusbar options and check " use AOSP icons" too, else it'll replace your data indicator icons.
Don't touch anything else within the module because it wasn't made for our phone. It sounds like a lot but it really isn't.
I think you can download a modified moto camera somewhere but this was the easiest way for me since I use xposed anyways. If you can find a modded apk then you won't need root I don't think.
Anyways, once you get it working there'll be a little ladybug looking button when you swipe out the settings wheel in the camera. Click it. From there you have access to lots of settings. You can change resolution like you want and it doesn't use crappy compression. You can do this for video too, and the camera preview itself, and much more. Here's some screenshots. Have fun :good:

Accidentally found a way to have both screens active at the same time.

Update: This feature is standard on android 6.0 now:
Settings-Camera and shutters (turn on Show viewfinder on always-on display)
Recently I accidentally found a way to mirror the colour screen onto the back screen without the colour screen during off. Like having a dual monitor. (See picture)
It would be nice to have an app that I could click to toggle this feature.
Having two screens mirrored the same information can be useful, for example.
2 Way screen for taking pictures:
-E-Ink Screen: People getting their pictures taken can see themselves
-OLCD Screen: The person taking the shot can see the colour screen while taking the picture.
Below I listed my steps:
Cloned Monitor Mode (Two screen sharing the same information):
Launch: Greenify (Install from Google Play)
1. Click on experimental features
2. Check Telephony Wakeup, Block App State Abuse, GCM push for greenified apps, Greenifying system apps
3. Greenify: Yota Book, Yota Checkers, Yota Chess, Yota Music Player, Yota Twitter, Yotahub
Launch: Close all apps pro (Install from Google Play)
1. Click on Close All Application button
Now both screens should be active at the same time like a dual monitor.
To Revert back:
Open Yotahub
Click on Yotapanel
Set Yotapanel on backscreen
I hope this helps, perhaps there is an app that does this already, if there is let me know
Also included some screenshots, hope this helps.

You can use Yotamirror as well
Have you read the manual, what you mention already exist, is Yota Mirror and is a no brainer to use,.. maybe you are talking about something else..?

Yota Mirror actives the color screen onto the e-ink screen, however only one screen is active.
What I am talking about is having both active screen on at the same time, for example I could be browsing the internet and you can see what I am looking at from the back of my phone. Like having a dual monitor cloning the same desktop.

I like mentioned earlier, it's great for taking pictures of people where they have access to a selfie black and white viewfinder.
Well it's useful for me, just wanted to share this with everyone.
Cheers
It is good to know, you never know when it could be useful.

Figured it out.
Just so you know: A search for "Close all apps pro" on Google Play doesn't get you what you need.
Close all applications pro does. Google is a good search engine. Google Play search is a piece of crap.
The only way to get Close all applications pro is to search for it on a search engine other than Google Play or use the entire correct name.
Is xposed required for the trick to work? Also, does it support all of the supported Android versions? Thanks.
