First off, Thank you to all developers and contributors; I have been the beneficiary of you hard work.
I had a rooted Galaxy Note 1, with unlimited data and no tethering plan, and WI-FI tethehering worked flawlessly. I had to upgrade to a Galaxy Note 3 because my GN1 was failing. With the GN3 I no longer have the ability to tether without going to a "Tethering" plan. I see many posts on how to do this with an S4 but have not found any help for the GN3. I Am running Firmware N900AUCUCNC2. my phone is not yet rooted because my only reason for rooting would be to get tethering to work, at least until the warranty expires and Knox 0x1 is no longer an issue.
Is there a way to regain the ability to tether WI-FI devices to my GN3? I am not opposed to rooting via TowlRoot and flashing a ROM if it will not trip Knox.
I am an advanced novice at best so directions to any "How Tos" would work great for me. In this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2394438 I see references to hacked TetheringProvision.apk. Is this process applicable to the GN3?
Thanks in advance for any help and direction you may provide.

Hey guys,
Just got my phone rooted on 4.4.2 NB1 using SafeStrap and muniz' stock rooted NB1 rom (Thanks so much again if yours seeing this!)
One major reason why I wanted a rooted phone was for tethering privileges; while i have been able to circumvent at&t's wifi hotspot software, I do not have an option for bluetooth tethering. Is it even possible on our phones, and is there way to enable it?
Thanks in advance,
Constantine
Is there a root option out for the at&t version of the note 3 that allows you to root without losing all of your data? Every root option I see out right now came over half a year ago and also trips knox's warranty thing. Maybe I'm just not searching the right thing, but I can't find a root option that doesn't require me starting from scratch with my phone. Thank you for your help.

Along time ago I rerooted my S4, so that i could have unlimited data through the S4 Hotspot. Ihave to say it worked like a charm. I have just purchased a S7. ( OCT-2016)
I wish the S7 to perform the same function that the S4 did for all those years. I first heard that" S7 cant be done". But i knew in time guys like XDA would come up with a way to do it. I recently heard that it is now possible. So first step i took was throwing in some keywords in youtube. I found alot of video in this regards.
As of today: My goal is to have the S7 hotspot feature turned on with out sprint knowing ( charging/monitoring ) my hotspot is on.
What method is the safest route to do this? A great step by step video would be awesome. I followed the steps for the S4. So Im hoping the steps for the S7 will be similar.
The guy in this video says that in time there will be better methods.

And will his method provide the Undetected hotspot usage?
I tried the foxfi app but it required me to pay for hotspot to be on.
Please point me in the right direction. Thanks for your time.
I simply just want my S7 to turn on hotspot have access to my unlimited data. And sprint not know the wiser.
No one?
No need to root you phone. You should try the unlocked firmware. Hotspot can be enabled without rooting. There's an app called Shortcut Master Lite that you can use to enable the hotspot on the unlocked firmware. The thread below has all the info on the unlocked firmware and Shortcut Master Lite.

There are links to the unlocked firmware in the above thread, but they are older versions. I would recommend flashing a newer version of the unlocked firmware which you can download from here:

This isn't the latest firmware, but you can just check for system update once you get it loaded and there will be another update that should download and install.
Good Luck.
thank you for that info. However. I attempted to root my phone. and now it doesnt recognize the sprint carrier or lte signal. it wont make calls or surf web. So now im stuck with a phone thats telling me it detects unathorized changes and to restart to redo changes. but when I do that. nothing changes. So now Im screwed. only thing i can think of is installing the original stock firmware. But Im going to assume thats an impossible task.
from what i can tell shortcut master lite doesnt work. I found the place to add the ,dun. but the option was greyed out. not clickable.

You have to be on the unrooted unlocked firmware for Shortcut Master Lite to work. You CAN'T root the unlocked firmware, as you discovered, and you don't need to if all you want is hotspot. Shortcut Master Lite does work on the stock unlocked firmware. You should be able to re-flash the full unlocked firmware and be good to go.

Hey, everyone! I used this method 2 years ago to root my phone so I could use it as a hotspot on my grandfathered unlimited Verizon plan. I disabled any kind of updates and am still rocking Android 6.0.1 on Kernel 3.18.20-eng. I really want to update to something newer/faster, but I read that depending on how I rooted my device, there is a possibility of bricking it if I do something wrong.
How do I go about updating my phone now? I used the method exactly as described in the linked post. Keeping root would be preferred, but it's not necessary.
Thanks!
Just a couple of questions. I havent flashed a custom rom in a long time. Last time was on a galaxy note 3, and I tripped knox. Was a pain in the butt and I could no longer get my banking app to work properly. So I want to make sure I dont do that again. Ultimately I want to get my bluetooth tether option back (i had it on android nougat). My watch only has bluetooth and needs bluetooth tether to access the internet.
My first question is will installing another firmware give me that option back.
Second question is, if I flash another firmware with odin, will it trip knox.
Third question, can I flash us firmwares.
Fourth question, is there another way to get bluetooth tether back without flashing another firmware.
Sorry if these have been answered before, but a google search didnt yield any answers, as well as a search on xda.
Edit: Well I tried several other canadian firmwares, but ultimately, they still installed the Rogers crap bloat, and also didn't enable bluetooth tethering. I heard sprints firmware might have it enabled, but I'm not sure it will work with my phone. I guess my only questions that remain, would be if I can flash a us firmware to this phone, or if there's another way to get my bluetooth tethering back.
