do you really need a custom recovery to flash a custom kernel? i think you can flash a custom kernel using mobile odin or odin. please correct me if i am wrong.
thanks
Kernels are signed by samsung. Flashing a custom kernel, regardless of method, will trip knox.

I dont think so,your flag will trip only once you update it to knox enabled system(mh1,mh8),then you downgrade it by means of flashing of a knox disabled system like for example(mg5,mga),however if you flash the latest stock fw that you mention, will not flag your KWV to 0x1
I have a SHV-E330L and I've flashed a rooted 4.3 stock rom (E330LKLUBMK4). Can I flash CWM without tripping Knox flag?
Also could someone advise which CWM will work on this (SnapDragon 800)

Actually no....I misread the knox kernel lock as knox warranty void. I used the rom from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2587037
Hi:
I have flashed a ROM Stock with Knox in 0x0 and root. How could install a Custom Recovery like CWM or Philz without up to 0x1?
Maybe ... Could with Mobile Odin Pro? or is there any safe method to install a Custom Recovery like SafeRoot method for root?
Thanks in advance.
You can't.

No. Only with android 4.2.2 was possible flash a custom recovery and custom roms without trip the KNOX.
Hi,
I have rooted my German Galaxy Note 3 n9005 with Towelroot, and subsequently upgraded with Mobile Odin from NB7 to latest firmware NF4 and also flashed the latest X-Note custom Rom. Until now I have kept my Knox at 0x0 since I have never flashed custom kernels or recovery. I have also deactivated all Knox-related apps and processes. Now I have the following question: IfI flash at this stage a custom recovery with Mobile Odin Pro would it trigger Knox counter and if yes then why? I mean how can I trip Knox if Knox is no more present on my phone?

Custom Recovery is meant to trip KNOX at all costs. I understand you used the MOP route to get to X-Note with KNOX at 0x0, but recovery or custom kernels WILL trip KNOX as it detected a breach in the bootloader-kernel-recovery TrustZone.
MOP with custom ROM and 0x0 is a case where you can bypass KNOX, but that's as far as it goes. Any sort of kernel or recovery flash will trip KNOX.

Many thanks for the answer. I was hoping that I won't trip Knox since I keep the old Kitkat bootloader and the new NF4 stock kernel untouched. Interesting how this Knox system works... From what you said I understand that you cannot FULLY deaktivate Knox even if you freeze or delete the appropriate files and it sort of gets resurrected if you flash custom recovery, right?

It's at the bootloader level. Think of it as a lever that only get switched on when you flash a kernel or a custom recovery.
Hello,
I would like to have a custom rom on my s5 and I want my knox 0. Im rooted on lollipop 5.0. It's possible? I need to put a custom recovery and if I do that, my knox will be at 1. Someone can tell how to install custom recovery with always my knox 0.
Thank you.
You can't other than safestrap which is not working on 5, you can use flashfire but that isn't really a recovery except for the flashing zips part.

Won't a custom rom install it's own recovery?......that being the case, even if you didn't start out by flashing a standalone custom recovery, knox is still going to be tripped when you flash the custom rom.......

Not 100% but I don't think custom rom trips lnox its recovery(and unless you use towelroot then by proxy root) that trips it, I might be wrong though.

I was under the impression / had heard that flashing any 'unsigned' (non Samsung, unofficial) software would trip knox........

Not all too sure myself, I know with custom recoveries its when you boot in to the custom recovery, next to no idea about things like CM and stuff though, that said I think they require flashing through a custom recovery so like I said above with root, your probably trip it by proxy from needing the recovery.

If you keep stock kernel and recovery and only flash custom rom via mobile odin/flash fire the knox won't be tripped. I had my S5 like that for a while before I decided to flash custom recovery.

Good to know
Which roms are compatible with a stock kernel?
http://i.imgur.com/rVnFwJM.jpg
This is the one I used: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/development/rom-neatrom-v1-t2828562
This one should work as well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/development/galaxy-project-galaxy-s5-t3138583
Basically every rom that doesn't include custom kernel should work.
