I am unsure if this is the correct forum or not but i need some assistance with Tasker. I can get it to turn on music with a text but I can't seem to get it to do other things, like read my texts aloud or adjust brightness/volume at specific times. I have followed several tuts i found on YouTube with no luck. I'm sure i have something that overrides tasker but i don't know where to look. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you
you are right this is not the right forum. there is a forum called tasker for noob/beginner that will answer simple question like these. however tasker might behave a lil different on the galaxy s5 (you do have a s5 right?). so I'm willing to help you out here. please explain all your tasker problems in details
ok, thank you
I am wanting to have my phone (S5) read text messages to me when I am in my vehicle. I found this tutorial on youtube: http://youtu.be/GMuvSY7Car0
I followed the directions to have it read the text to me, here are some screen shots.

I have also looked at that thread you referenced and my knowledge of Tasker is so limited I'm sure it will take me forever to filter through it. (which I plan on doing soon, but I want to get this task set up so soon.
Anything you need to know specifically? I am using the samsung messaging app, no 3rd party app. And I'm not rooted. Just updated to 4.4.2 the other day.
Thank you for giving me a hand.

ok going to help you now, but I want you to change the post title to tasker for s5 if that's ok, I think It will be useful for others that way
but this is what you will do for me now.. when you open tasker press the menu button (on the s5 that's long pressing the recent key button or touch the 3 dot at the top right hand corner) when you do that select enable. this will enable tasker as you have it disable now. I notice that the tasker icon is full gray which mean its disable, when its enable the lighten in the tasker icon will be orange....do that and make me know if it work

I would like to launch some applications via the startup menu, and some of them simply need to be running in the background to function properly.
Is there a tag on the shortcut like -minimize that will work for all applications or does the specific application need to support it?
Thank you so much
Try Quickmenu....its nice start menu/task manager it has option to exclude programs from closing when u click on X
you could create a simple mortscript that calls the today screen (maybe with a delay) and make sure the shortcut to it is the last one in startup.
Yep, you can use MortScript to do what you need. I think it's the only way because I needed to do it also. I don't use the script anymore so I deleted it, but if you search the MortScript manual for 'minimize' you should find what you need.
I think its dependant upon the app.. but i have used -s successfully before.. you may also want to try to search MSDN
Give a try to the one attached here........

I assume you want to run an app from \Startup. Your question is a little confusing. Anyway, it will be app dependent as far as the functionality using command lines in a .lnk. I do not know of a general command that would work for this as the point of shortcuts is to open the app. If the app is not intended to run in the background on its own, it will open like normal.
What are you trying to do exaclty? Perhaps that would help answer your question a bit more.
Is there a way to force a shortcut to minimize an application when launched?
i need this too.. for UL links..
Hey guys, what's going on. Happy Holidays to all of you!
I'm not sure if i'm using the right terminology, but I was wondering if there was a cab (or 2) because I would like to use those!
As seen in here
I would like to use:
1) the thing on top of the buttons:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2) The slider:
Anyone has a cab close?
Thanks!
EDIT: See the links posted by the members for links to the curtains/curtains+slider2answer
please search..

Ah hah for the slider, i had searched, but i wasn't sure if the in-call curtain was in there!
Thanks!
well guys he's right, cos the cabs posted on that thread include only the "slide 2 answer" function, not the brushed small curtain which appears during the call.
Unfortunately, won't work on CDMA devices yet.

Not true. There is now a fully working slolution but it has become lost mid-thread!
Look for the cab by fiendz and the minor fix by drachen.
"the thing on top of the buttons:" see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=464513
try posts 243, 244 (page 25) - has the "curtain" and solves most other problems
is there any way you can make work on cdma

EXCELLENT! thanks mate, things indeed do get lost mid thread especially when threads get big
Thanks to ALL for their input, hope this thread can become a reference for anyone in need of it
Hi people,
I'm sorry if this has been asked (and answered) before (or if it's too obvious), but I've been searching for this on Google and found nothing. Everybody seem to be searching ways to enable this "curtain", but I'm trying to disable it instead...
I'm using my own ROM that I've cooked with Lobsterdave's kitchen. It includes PhoneCanvas_Tachi_4_10_34656_1 package and I'm only missing video calling feature to be there...
But, one thing that annoys me is that it DOES HAVE the damn curtain over the keys in a call. That makes me 1) turn on screen 2) try to slide it down (yeah try) and 3) push the button I intend to...
So, is there a way, like a reg-tweak or something that would disable the curtain?
Thanks
Hello everyone, my name is Nick and this is my first post in this great forum. I have been using the TD2 for some months now and i think it's a really great phone!
The only problem i've come across so far is that the G-Sensor rotates the screen in some applications i'd rather see horizontal like the phone dialer and the Sim Toolkit service. It's really annoying to see the screen rotating when i am talking on the phone because it messes up the screen too!
I've tried many programs like Gyrator 2 or G config but none of them seem to do what i want. I don't want to disable the G sensor of the phone cause it's really useful when browsing or writing messages.
Any ideas of how to solve this? Thanks in advance!
I use Gyrator and disabled everything i don't wan't to be turned, works perfect!
It looks like you didn't set-up Gyrator properly, read the manual carefuly.

When you look in Gyrator Events you will see this list:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Make sure that everyting that you don't wan't to rotate is listed above Rotate.
You can add new events (click and hold on a blanck section) and put them higher in the list by click and hold them and chose Promote.
If you don't know wat you should enter in a event for a non-rotating event just look, by editing (click and hold and chose edit) in a excisting Disable(***) event, i did to.
Good luck!
I tried that too but i just keeps rotating when i turn the device.
I created a new event and checked "Orientation", i named it "Disable (Dialer)" and promoted it above "Rotate". Then i edited it like that: Application=Phone, Orientation=Portrait (or landscape, i tried everything on the list), Actions=Rotate Screen (or nothing checked, i tried both) but it still doesn't work. I even tried disabling the HTC dialer and using the WM one but nothing changed. I'm starting to believe it's haunted!
I have been having issues with the Phantom Voicemail issue on all the Cyanogen Mod roms.
I have tried changing the voicemail phone number through the My Carrier options, that did nothing. Tried clearing out the Dialer Storage, that did nothing.
I have spent roughly 3 hours trying to find a fix. Does anyone know of anything?
I use Google Voice, so the dual notification icons get annoying, not to mention the fact that this one doesn't disappear, and reappears if I reboot my phone, or go in and out of service.
If there is a file that I can remove to have it stop, and allow me to just use Google Voice, that would work great too, as of now, I just want the darn thing gone.
You have to download an app and black list it. There's a post around here somewhere. I'm on my phone so I can't find it. But look for Sprint's VVM. There's a link to the app in the OP.

The two apps I can think of are RedList, and SPC (Super Private Conversation). SPC is the bigger of the two apps (I think around 2-3mb?), but I don't think the free version of RedList lets you disable the notification icon (I could be wrong? Someone feel free to correct me).
Is there anything other then an application that can block the notification message?
Removing a file or changing a file perhaps?
No clue, though I'd wager it has to be done on the code level.
I don't think I've ever actually ran into this bug. I gather it notifies you of voicemails despite not actually having any? Odd.
It looks like this, with my phone number edited out.

No matter what the time it is, this was on first boot up. Then it "notified me" again, at 11:17 PM.
It's a known bug on Cyanogenmod...

Log in and star it to give it higher priority!
The easiest way to check a phone about its various functions or failure of such function is to use its own embedded testing .apk
How to access them is not normally Known to many
All you have to do is
1) Long Press your Desktop
2) Touch shortcuts
3) Touch Activities
4) And you can select activity of any application on your phone ( which has its own pulled down menu to chose from)
By selecting one you will have a shortcut of it placed in your desktop
so all you have to do is now touch that shortcut and its appropriate menu will open for you to test or select from
see screen-shots below
Assuming you have problems with USB connections, Blue tooth, WIFI, Network settings, whatever your phone is supposed to do, can be checked this way including running a ping test etc

If you are using XDA App or Tapatalk, long press on the post and select :good: Thanks Its easier to give "Feedback" in this manner than make an additional post.
Direct shortcuts to activities can be quite useful. One of my main uses is to get access to the fullscreen feeds and updates widget (there is also an activity that allows you to select a few themes for it).
You do however need a launcher such as Launcherpro or Apex launcher installed to get this in the shortcut menu.
Thankyou so much for this insight, I spent 2 years wondering what this option was for and it never crossed my mind to actually try it

You are welcome, seems so simple and right in-front of us to get into the phone, yet little known or used
