[Q] cant resolve boot loop - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

During the last two days I overcome the problem of mass boot loop on nexus 4 without success.
The device enters bootloop after regular restart that was done because I lost service.
Before that I had a problem that during a call the screen would turn off.
I did not root or any other manipulation device. Since I bought it (two weeks ago), he was upgraded to 4.4 OTA
I went through the posts on this forum and also online.
I've by fastboot, Flash of recovery; boot; system; radio; userdata. Well also downgraded to versions 4.2
I changed the recovery to CWM still no success.
How ever in the CWM recovery I was able to flash Hellfire (HF) ROM via "adb sideload"
after i did the wipe I restarted, the boot animaton has changed to the one of HF and a message stating that Android is upgrading: optimizing apps and then starting apps. at this point the device was stuck.
after a restart I am stuck again in the bootloop.
how should you proceed now?
thanks

Try to boot into recovery and wipe everything. Then flash rom. Let me now how it goes! Had the same problem last week...
Hit thanks if I helped you

Already tried that
might try a different ROM

If you unlock the bootloader in fastboot and then reboot the device back into the bootloader does the bootloader stay unlocked or does it lock again?

The bootloader remains unlocked. when I run "Fastboot oem unlock" the return line indicates that it was already unlocked.
also the lock state is unlocked (red line on the bottom)

Okay, thank you this was a test for a bad emmc (memory chip). I'll see if I can think of something else you haven't tried.

You'll probably have to go thru LG. I know a guy who's a guru at this type of thing on the n5. Maybe he can help on the n4 @bitdomo They're very similar devices

I only can speak warranty in the EU. It maybe different in the other parts of the world.
If the phone is originaly from google playstore you have to talk with google. If the phone does not come from google plastore originaly then you have to talk with LG. To take your phone to LG to repair your phone under warranty you will need the original receipt with the imei number printed on it from the store it was bought. Also keep in mind if the phone comes from GSM shop or then those GSM shops does not give you LG warranty just shop warranty which means that the phone have to be taken back to the original store with the original receipt. These stores sells phones only with 1 year warranty.
I forgot to mention, if the phone is from google playstore originaly then the warranty is only valid in that country's google playstore which the phone comes from.

He could try this if he has patience and determination. This wipes everything and rebuilds the partitions.

Update
Tried everything, no success, more over when I came back to try and work some more on the nexus 4 I noticed the screen was broken (haven't touched it the last 2 days...) finally gave up.
I got a full refund from the Ebay supplier
Still very disappointing, Ill chuck it all up to a faulty device

[Q] Phone won't boot - need google authenticator

My N4 recently "upgraded" to 4.3 now won't boot past the Nexus X logo. I never rooted or romed it.
I've tried rebooting the phone and looking around the recovery menu but nothing has done anything so far.
I really need the google authenticator data from the phone. I assume if I do a factory reset then this will be lost.
First up does anybody have any ideas on getting it going without wiping it, and if not what about getting the google auth data from it before the wipe?
What type of important data is on Google Authenticator?

Whatever token it has for OTP I assume? i.e. I want to be able create OTPs as before.
I have the emergency codes for my google account ( I think ), but I have one site that I'm pretty sure never gave me any.

Not in this case. Am I **** out of luck here?
Turns out it boots randomly every so often. Managed to get it running twice now out of about 40 restarts. I've sorted my auth problem so now all I need to do is get the phone stable again. Did a factory reset via the recovery menu but no joy. 4.3 has caused me nothing but pain.
Just to finish this one off, I've put back on stock 4.2.2 via fastboot and all is well again. Offering me the 4.3 update again but I'm holding off until they're on to at least 4.3.1
You have access to manage Authenticator at https://accounts.google.com.

Best buy return

I'm considering returning my Nexus 7 back to best buy but I was just curious if there is any way for them to know if the device is unlocked. Do they actually boot it up to the bootloader and check at the time of return? If so, is there any way to unroot the device and lock it back up?

They will likely go into the settings to verify the device number is the same as in your receipt. They won't go into the bootloader but will see the unlocked icon as the device is booting up. You can return it to them with it already on.

Why not just flash the factory image (boot, recovery, and system) and then lock the bootloader?
How do you lock the bootloader?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
The reverse of how you unlock it. In fastboot mode type "fastboot oem lock"
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 4
I did an exchange at Best Buy. They only made sure it turned on and worked. I didn't even have my receipt, they looked up my credit card number.
May I suggest at least put the stock back, even do a factory reset.
Just look out for the next customer who may buy it.
It's okay, I actually was able to restore the factory image and lock the boot loader back up. Thank you guys.
A lot of times I returned something to bb, they didn't even check the contents inside, they only asked me the reason for the return. Do keep in Mind that they track customer returns based on the id you give them.

I tried that and it says fastboot is not a recognized as an internal or external command.i have it in fastboot volume down with power button

Nexus 4 - Softbricked. Infinite Loop. 1 month old

Yo! Before bashing me. Yes, I have watched the n00b video, read the privacy, terms of use and so on. I have made my investigations. In fact I've been having this problem since Sunday and have been squeezing this Nexus 4 thread, Android's Central and other Google Site from top to bottom.
Problem: I have a Nexus 4 16 GB purchased directly from the Google Play Store. IMEI died. It became zero. Tried to root it (with fail attempts at connecting to the phone) so I could modify IMEI. Then phone had bootloop. Current situation: Bootloop, can't pass from the X logo.
What I have done:
- Flashed to Stock ROM using Fastboot manually, and with flash-all: 4.2.2 and 4.3. Current Result: Stuck at the Bootloop
- Left the device charging. Still bootloop (By leaving the phone charging, I managed to get out of the bootloop twice)
- Unlocked the bootloader
- Factory Reset.
- Wipe Drive Cache
- Used the LGNPST technique. (Strange, but it managed to boot with the Optimus Stock!... Unfortunately it was password locked :/)
- Pushed a different ROM (CyanogenMod) using ADB.
- Correctly installed all ADB drivers.
- Used Nexus Root Toolkit to return device back to stock to no avail
. Correctly installed the Unaked drivers for the phone.
- Tried locking and unlocking the boot loader.
- Installed Recovery Clockwork Mod.
- Read lots and lots of posts! Spent 10+ hours doing trial and error.
P.S: The problem started last Sunday, when Juice Defender tried re-enabling the data on my mobile. I saw the mark on the carrier signal didn't turn blue. I reset the phone, and then it started to have baseband problems and no connectivity. I investigated and saw that it was an IMEI problem (It returned me zero). Took it to my phone service and they couldn't fix it.
This phone is a month old, which I purchased with the 100$ price rebate at the Google's Play Store.
Note that I didn't touch the device in terms of Bootloader, custom ROMs, or did something to it aliened from the Play Store (which should have caused an IMEI problem beforehand).
I did some tweaks but never Root or something outside the Play Store (Apex Loader, SwiftKey, Live Backgrounds, eye candy stuff )
I appreciate all of your help and tips beforehand!
Oh, and one last thing. Please, if you would be kind enough to provide me a method for a DIY I’d be much obliged! I don’t live in the United States, I live in the Dominican Republic (Caribbean). Sending the device back to Google will cost me around 50 – 100$ (Half the amount of what the Nexus cost me).
Again, Thanks a million for future replies
looks like nobody knows what to do here, sorry to hear that bro.
Wow, you really have tried everything possible. Since it's only a month old, return to google seems the only way. Normally, IMEI issues are due to blocked phones, people not paying contracts or somehing like that but since you bought it off google I don't see why. The only thing other than what you have tried is flashing the radio again.

OMG! It booted! Yes! Out of the bootloop!
Seems that after flashing it to 4.2.2 and wiping the cache did the trick of getting it out of the bootloop!
Now I'll be trying to flash all radios as you suggested to get my IMEI back.
A billion thanks people!

I haven't solved the issue yet.
I don't know why but the phone doesn't boot when I install 4.3.1 on it (JWR66Y) It does boot with 4.2 on it. Strange... and it doesn't let me install the OTA.
I've been trying different kernels as mentioned above with no luck....
Maybe I'll try flashing an LG Optimus image to see if it works.

Yes! I've tried several several times. From manual fastboot to the Nexus Root Toolkit recovery option and I get hanged.
I decided that I'll be trying to see if by using some advanced recovery options I'll be able to do it.
By now I'll be tinkering a bit with Ubuntu OS to see if I can boot it at all.
By the way I did find by searching something called "Android HD super wiipe note" but I don't know how to install it... And I don't know if it will work either

Pam! Can't get it right yet! Argh! I get a black screen when I try manually installing the Ubuntu OS on the phone :/
Anyone know a way... I can still boot into 4.2.2

Well. I've decided to return it.
Does someone know an email or something different that is not via phone to contact Google? I've been having problems to contact it from my country.
A friend told me that there's a way in which they contact you instead. How do I do it?
Mini bump
Already issued a return with Google Since the device is within warranty they'll gladly replace it for a new one!

D801 bricked. No download mode.

Short version: phone won't boot, won't go into download mode, won't properly do a factory reset (tries but doesn't do it), need help.
Finally bricked my phone after tampering with it too much.
I was on the stock KK rom released by LG themselves, no root. Reverted back to the 10c firmware, OTA to 10g, rooted and installed TWRP - flashed a Vodaphone Germany KK ROM for the LG G2 because I heard it had minimal bloatware and no bluetooth wakelock unlike the KK version I was on for T-Mobile (my carrier). It had the touchscreen issue which I never experienced before. Tried multiple times to go back to any T-Mobile LG G2 ROM using the LG Mobile Support Tool - no dice. Uninstalled and reinstalled everything twice. So I figured, oh hey, I probably need to use the Vodaphone Germany JB.kdz file, root that, install TWRP, then flash back to the T-Mobile KK version that I had before. Seemed fool proof in theory. Used the LG Tool to do such, it finished smoothly and now my phone won't boot. It won't do a factory reset (it enters the factory reset mode and it attempts to do one but just reboots). It won't enter download mode either. I think I'm screwed here. Any advice?
I found 2 guides, but to even begin to do the first one I need my phone to enter fastboot mode and I can't find out how to do that anywhere.
you say Won't go into download mode? What happens when you try?
It just shows the first screen as it tries to enter download mode, with the blue dots. The screen that comes after that doesn't happen anymore. It used to switch to it after a few seconds and then the LG Mobile Support Tool could connect to the phone, but it can't anymore.

The same thing is happening to my ls980. I'm certain it's hard bricked. Download mode shows on the screen but won't boot into firmware upgrade screen. No recovery at all. Didn't work for me. Windows and Ubuntu didn't recognize my phone. I actually ended up ****ing up my laptop by overwriting a partition but that's on me.
Decided to take it in to a T-Mobile store and blame it on the Kit Kat OTA. It turns on, doesn't boot, doesn't factory reset, doesn't fully go into download mode - how are they gonna know I ****ed it up? I have basic insurance on my plan because the JUMP program is tied into it. So for a little over $10 a month I just gained access to a warranty exchange of my device which is set to ship overnight. Can't wait. Huge stress reliever. I advise you take your phone into your carrier store and do the same as I did.

Bootloader does not stay locked

My stock, un-rooted, Nexus 4 decided to stop working today. It just got stuck at the X loading over and over again. I'm trying to flash a recovery and fix this, but I can't get the bootloader to unlock. I type in fastboot oem unlock, which gives me the option to unlock. As soon as I reset however, it becomes locked again automatically.
I've also tried flashing recover right after unlocking, but it gives me an error and says remote: flash write failure.
Any ideas?
I've seen this when the emmc has gone bad. Bootloader won't stay unlocked. I don't know if you're still under warranty but that's your best option
