Hello all. Was on att dynamic kat rom..needed to take phone in to get checked so I went to return to stock using MJ5 method (which has worked before) I'm running paralells on my mac (which I had been using for a while) but now odin will not even recognize my note3 and heimdall does, but gets the pit download error. I read here that someone said there was an issue with 4.4.2 and to use a windows pcs, but i'm thinking paralells is the same thing. I'm stuck pretty much..can't get back home screen and when in download mode still can flash from odin or heimdall. checked my connections and all

Parallels is not the same thing. You're running Windows on top of Mac. When you connect hardware, whatever gets connected gets processed by the Mac side, then tossed into Windows after.
This is why we recommend to NEVER use a VM when doing these things.

You need to assign the usb device to the parallels vm. With the windows vm running, right click the parallels icon in the task bar, go to devices, external devices, and click the android device.
The issue you describe simply means the device hasn't been passed off to the vm.

Partially true. Parallels allows direct hardware access, whereas vmware does not. You just have to tell parallels what hardware to give direct access to. I've used it and vmware, and vmware uses a hardware abstraction layer, whereas parallels uses direct hardware addressing. While they are both virtual machines, parallels and vmware operate differently.

You should use boot camp and running a windows to use odin

I flashed my Nexus S with CM7 RC 4. Accidentally my original nandroid backup got deleted. I want to flash my device with the factory android 2.3.3 image. Please let me know the link to download the Android 2.3.3 for SNS 9023 GRI54.
You find it on:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=973534
I have already downloaded the rom files and the odin but the odin don't recognise my NS.
Can you tell me how to do a fastboot flash ?
If you want odin to recognize your nexus you have to install the samsung usb drivers .. You can find them here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929
I have already installed the google drivers but the phone recovery is the clockwork image. I am not able to put the phone to the download mode. I have downloaded the GRI54 image from samfirmware.com. Now I am not able to use it. Is there any other fully cooked image to flash the Nexus S.
I do not have a fastboot image for you ..btw the google drivers are not the same as the samsung drivers ..for odin you will need the samsung ones ...
To go into downloadmode :
turn on you phone, plug your phone into a sb port ( as if you wanted to put something on the phone) then while your phone is still connected to your pc , switch you phone off and keep holding vol up + vol down ..you will see that if you keep holding them phone will go into download mode after you phone is switched off

You installed the samsung drivers, make sure that your phone is power on,disable the usb debugging, ceheck that microsoft.net framework is installed on your pc. When you connect your phone (on your device manager) you must have "android phone" and below that "nexus s" with out any question symbols. If so then select to update your driver and give the path you installed the samsung drivers (eg c:\program files\samsung ....).
Power off you phone, open Odin and follow the pdf file from samfirmware to load the files (bootloader, pda, modem, csc). Hold your phone from the middle of volume buttons(between vol up and vol down) and immediately connect your phone to your pc with the usb cable .you are going to see the yellow triangle with the android.
Try it
Thanks afilopou, I've managed to enter download mode.
However I've never used Odin before so I'm not sure how to use it.
When I use 'PDA_SOJU_GRI54_TMO_EUR_MR1_SIGNED.tar.md5' for PDA, I get an error and the process stops.
If I start the process without selecting PDA, everything goes smoothly but when I reboot nothing's changed of course...
BTW, my i9023 is from Vodafone Australia (I hope that's got nothing to do with the error). Currently running CM RC4.
Please help.

Odin on Win7 Bootcamp worked! Even though I got an error when I was installing the Samsung USB Drivers, Windows started recognising the NS after that.
After using Odin, the only change I can tell from the bootloader is that the 'CARRIER INFO' has changed to 'EUR' from 'XSE'. The bootloader version and baseband version are unchanged. They are still 'I9020XXXKA3' and 'I9020XXXB3'. I thought they were going to change to I9023XXX... but apparently not. Is this normal? I'm confused.
Obviously this rom is for Europe, so my i9023 from Australia probably had a different factory rom. I need to go into a Vodafone store and check but if it's different, it's going to be difficult to find the original rom for Australian i9023...

OK, so I had a chance to go into a local Vodafone Australia store.
The Baseband version under 'About phone' from the settings was I9023XXXKB1.
Under fastbootmode, the bootloader and baseband versions were I9020XXXKA3 and I9020XXXKB1.
However, CARRIER INFO is 'XSE' for Vodafone Australia, where as the CARRIER INFO from the Samfirmware.com ROM is 'EUR'.
Almost back to factory stock condition! Is it possible to change the carrier info? Does anyone know where I can get the stock Australian ROM for Nexus S?
I currently have the EC05 modem with SRF1.2 and Genocide 2.0 kernel. I'm getting some dropped calls, and my bluetooth isn't consistently connecting in my car, so I want to try a different modem. The problem is that I have a Mac. The only Windows machine I have access to is my computer at work, and it for some reason fails everytime I try to install the Epic drivers. I'm aware of using ODIN to flash new modems, but this isn't an option for me. I tried getting Heimdall to work on my Mac, but for some reason it wasn't allowing me to do anything (almost like view only). Are there any update.zip files or some way to flash a new modem using my Mac?

I don't believe so. Did you try running Heimdall on linux on the Mac? Heimdall also has Windows drivers if Odin doesn't work on that PC then maybe Heimdall will. You need to use modem.bin in Heimdall....extract it from the .tar file with 7zip.
I couldn't get heimdall to recognize my epic either. I don't believe our secondary bootloader has been fixed with the bug that was preventing Macs from working. I have odined to eb13 and even dg27 and gotten ota updates to ec05 but never get recognized on the mac. Heimdall works fine on my work PC though. You might try Linux on your mac that or bootcamp to XP or 7

According to the Heimdall website, the second bootloader problem for Mac was fixed with Froyo 2.2. Of course Heimdall doesn't officially support Epic and I don't have a Mac (just Linux and Windows) so I haven't tried it.
To the OP:
What version of Heimdall are you using? Are you using the GUI or the command line?
There may be a problem with the GUI not acting the way it's expected. If nothing else works, I would recommend:
1. install Heimdall 1.2.0 (command line).
2. boot phone into download mode (power + 1 key)
3. attach phone to computer
4. see if heimdall recognizes the phone by using the command
heimdall print-pit

. That should give you a listing of the partitions on your phone. It will reboot your phone.
If that works, then repeat steps 1-3. Then to upload a different modem just use
heimdall flash --modem <file name>

where <file name> is the file name for the modem. I don't know how you specify the directory for files in Mac, but in linux I just navigate to the file and open the terminal window to save on the cd commands.
I was trying to use the GUI interface. I'll mess with it some more tonight if I get time and see if I can get it to work using command line. I also may try to bootcamp Linux if that works. Just curious, what are most people using for Linux...Ubuntu, Mint, or something else?

I just started to use Mint 11. It's been almost 15 years since the last time I used linux shell.
Ok.. Here we go. If you prematurely flashed stuff to your I9505G and ended up with a soft brick here is your fix.
Step 1. Have a working install of Heimdall - Beyond the scope of this post - there are plenty of places to find it.
Step 2. Boot to download mode - Vol Down + Home + Power, once there, Press Vol Up.
Step 3. Download Mirror #1 (Dropbox - use it til its gone) http://db.tt/lGzaHANK OR Mirror #2 https://mega.co.nz/#!8wABlZZY!Mi4u82myT4ygl0QYLXCTjQhFt7g7asin27weykvUILc (Thanks tublah)
Step 4. Extract to your Heimdall directory
Step 5. I'm not Heimdall master, but this is what worked for me. If you can string these commands into one - lemme know. I'll update post.
Code:
heimdall flash --SYSTEM mmcblk0p16_system.img --no-reboot
When finished - unplug/replug USB cable
Code:
heimdall flash --BOOT mmcblk0p21_boot.img --no-reboot
When finished - unplug/replug USB cable
Code:
heimdall flash --RECOVERY mmcblk0p22_recovery.img --no-reboot
When finished - unplug USB
Step 6. Hold power, when phone vibrates, hold Vol Up + Home + Power until the blue text appears on Google splash screen
Step 7. Wipe data/factory reset
Step 8. Reboot
Step 9. Enjoy your phone like it was just out of the box. and breathe a sigh of relief that you no longer have a $700 paper weight.
Step 10. Keep enjoying until proper files for our phone are out.
Downloading!
And FYI. Its a dropbox link so if/when it hits its shares - I'll put it somewhere else. Its just the quickest thing at the time.

Glad you got it working - Heimdall uses a different driver interface (USBlib) so you've got to change the driver. If you want to go back to using ODIN you'll have to open up the device properties in the "Computer Management > Devices" window and select Roll Back Driver.

In the digging I've done in the past few minutes - it looks like Heimdall doesn't play nice with XP x86. I'll look into what I've got to do to make an ODIN flashable - unless someone around here knows what to do.

- Get into bootloader on your phone and connect it to the computer
- Run zadig.exe in \Driver in your Heimdall folder
- In zadig, options -> list all devices, and find the one that is your phone. I had to replug in and out to see which one the phone is, and for me the phone was something that started with MS...etc etc. It wasn't long, about 8 letters
- then hit, replace driver or "Install WCID driver" like so: http://i.imgur.com/wqNw77l.png (note: this image doesnt show my phone connected)
- after that, (for Windows users) open the Heimdall directory, and shift-rightclick on white space (in the explorer window). Then select open command window here.
- Enter the commands in the OP, reconnecting the cable everytime.
- After all of them are run and done, disconnect cable from phone, and hold power button till the screen is black. Then power + home + vol_up and you'll see Google with blue text on top "Booting recovery". Once in recovery use vol buttons to pick "factory reset" (or something along those lines) and hit yes. After that's done, select reboot system now, and DONE. Wait for it to boot in all its glory, give it time as the Google logo flickered once for me.
More info (These things shouldn't impact the process I think): I already had Visual Studio 2012 installed, no Kies.
Definitely have .net 3.5 and .net 4.X (latest one) installed as well as the redist C++ from Microsoft.
here are some images i took during the process:

yea i figured. thanks.
my other thought was just do this at work tomorrow morning but that poses another issue for me... all our PCs are encrypted.
i would have to find an unencrypted PC / laptop at work or spend 4 hours unencrypting mine to be able to do this

read it carefully before you reply...this is official GT-N5110. and yes we know there's a leaked beta update flooding around...this one is real deal.
Problem with SNote!
edit: ok now snote is ok for me!
And what about pen accuracy? Is it fixed? And what kind of problem is there with S note?
I haven't test it yet, because of time. But @civato will do his rom taking this new official version as base.
This should be in General.
Reported so it can be put with all the other identical postings.

Works fine on mine. As long as the model number is the same, the firmware will work.
Hi i just downloaded this firmware,i just wanted to ask,do i need to root my 5110 note 8 tablet before flashing this firmware,i have download Odin 307 and i am running windows 7,is it just a matter of connecting my tablet to the computer via the usb lead and then starting the Odin program up and browse for the firmware and get Odin to flash my tablet,or do i still have to root the tablet first.
Anyone have a bug report?

yes. you still need to root your tablet because offical 4.2.2 update removes all root stuff. Once you flashed 4.2.2 firmware, and if all goes, wait for at least 10-15 mins (let 4.2.2 settle cool down)...and then reboot into download mode, and using odin once more flash CF-Auto-Root tar file (search CF-Auto-Root for Note 8). this should re-root your device...

You do not need to be rooted to flash anything via Odin.

Everything seems to be working perfectly for me. Even resolved the momentary freezes I had on 4.1.2.
Very smooth so far.
Can't get PC to recognize the tablet
I downloaded and installed the Samsung drivers, I turned on USB debugging, I downloaded Odin 3.07 and the leaked 4.2.2 from UK and when I boot into odin, my PC does not recognize the tablet as being connected, but my PC makes the noise and shows that the samsung drivers have been installed successfully. Any ideas on how to get this to recognize my tablet. I am running windows 7 64 bit. I do have McAfee running and am unable to disable because this is my work PC.
Thanks

You have to boot the tablet in download mode before plugging it into your computer.

I have done all of that. Sorry I wasn't clear on that. I have followed all the instructions of being able to do this. Once I am in download mode (Odin mode), I plug the tablet in and then open Odin 3.07. Odin 3.07 does not recognize the tablet. But I have installed all the samsung drivers and it shows they installed successfully. I may be having an issue on my laptop where my company has a policy where we cannot write to external hard drives or USB sticks (jump Drives).
I may need to do this from my home PC when I get home tomorrow.
Thanks for helping out.
Make sure you start odin first using administrative permission, then plug your note in after odin is up and running.

I'm planning on using mobileOdin and keeping root when I get home from work. Has worked well for me in the past. We shall see what we shall see!
Anybody flashed firmware via Odin in a VMware virtual machine under OSX? I remember having problems years ago with a Galaxy S5, just curious if flashing an S7 under VMware is still a problem?

I tried it, it works fine.
Odd. I never could get it to work and just booted up an old Window machine.
it worked for me, when I changed the USB Controller to version 2.0 instead of 3.0 in VMware Fusion in the Virtual Machine Settings
