Is there a way to charge the battery outside the phone?
I was trying to recover my LS980 via this thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142 ) when my battery died.
Now my phone is completely dead and not recognized under Linux.
Is there a way to charge the battery via a USB cable and straight to the battery?
Thanks.

You think it's the battery that's dead, or you fried the phone completely?
But no, not really. Look at the battery connector.. Which is rather tedious to get to, and it's tiny.

Would a straight connection between a stripped USB cable connected to a charger do?
Thanks.

Static electricity.. have read about it in some guides and articles..
The best would be to use a magnet attached to your USB cable. That should prevent shutting down... Digital camera's usually have included this kind of cables.. It's even required to meat some ISO guide-line

Use a USB cable with that bulky thing attached to it. Some network cables have them too... maybe you can take it off easy..
DO NOT USE A regular magnet!! it's too powerful and might damage more than you think!
thnks, ill try it and get back to you....

Damaged or fake batteries cause this error. The only way to solve is change your battery for one new and original battery... I recommend the BP7X original by Motorola.
Unboxed the packing, Charged the Nook for 3Hrs. It wont turn-on on pressing the power button on the back. I have tried long press for as long as 1min. Still no help.
It just displays Fully charge the device before first use !

It show a green light when connected for charging.
One more thing is that when I connect to the computer, It shows some error USB Notification - "USB Device not recognized".
I have seen a few things about taking the nook apart, I think it would be my last resort. I don't replacement is viable option as I got it shipped to India.
Hoping some one would help me out.
It seems that the charging system/battery has gotten out of whack.
Usually people open the case, disconnect then reconnect the battery.
It could be that the battery is bad too.
It's good that it shows something when plugged into the USB.
What exactly is the unrecognized USB device PID/VID?
Replacement
I thought of taking it apart but it has break seal on the screw. Didn't wanna void warranty .
Thank you for the help ! I just found someone to take it back to the States. B&N will replace the device.
Hello guys.
I have a Nexus 7, with a huge problem.
Ever since my little sister took it to Europe (and plugged it into a 220 volt instead of the 110 that we use here in the U.S), it died. Now, I've opened it and checked if the battery was somehow poorly plugged or something, but nothing.
The device will not turn on unless connected to a power source (and even then, not 100% of the time) (both my Macbook and wall work). This is what it looks like:

Is this a battery problem? Or a screen problem?
Also, when I took these pictures, it was the first time I could see the "Google" logo on the screen (although barely)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
From the look of it you have either a damaged motherboard or screen. The motherboard is probably more likely. Can you check on your charger and see what the input voltage is some chargers can cope with 100-240v. What happens when you turn it on/plug it into a computer does it boot is it recognised by the computer? And lastly is there any possibility it was dropped?
Its possible that doubling the input voltage may have produced a surge in the usb voltage but it would be more likely to just fry your charger.

That's hardware, software can't fix hardware. Take it to a specialist.
