Searching for Testers with D850|1|2/LS990/F400/VS985 variant - G3 General

Hey guys and girls,
I'd look for testers who could check if the merges at the kernel source I've done are working properly.
I'm currently working on building a unified repository of kernel source with which hopefully all variants can be served and from which other developers can start from without having to worry about if the base source does work or has errors.
But even while I look deep into the source and hopefully don't miss anything, i can't really verify if it's working properly, except of compiling, for other variants than the D855, because that's the only device i own, so I need testers that could verify it's functionality.
Prerequisites
Knowledge about fastboot and how to temporarily boot kernels with it (WARNING! always take backups before trying to get to or mess with fastboot)
Knowledge about logcat and how to provide logs
Knowledge about dmesg and how to provide it's information
Note: I'm just integrating other variants at the stock source, there won't be any bells or whistles added, that's not the purpose of this project, so don't expect me to add any overclocking or other features! This may come with another project in the future, but this doesn't matter for now.
The project itself can be found here.
Thanks in advance to those willing to test

Hey,
I've now integrated the LS990 variant, so I'd need testers for this variant to

I would be happy to test the D851 kernel.

If I'm not mistaken you need to unlock the boot loader to change the kernel? If so the d850 is locked

you boot this kernel temporary and not permanently and aslong as you just boot the kernel and don't try to flash it you will not have a problem

Well, I intentionally added nowhere an image to avoid people not knowing what they're doing going through the steps to get fastboot working and trying to flash the kernel, but probably you're right and I should add an additional warning, it's just a bit tricky on other variants than the D851, because fastboot is needed to get to twrp , but thanks

Edit: Nevermind

F400 added, just VS985 missing and it's done so far. When that's done and feedback is well from the testers, I'll start a new project based on this and add features.
I'd btw need testers for D850 still.
Edit: all variants except of d852 are added now, if i haven't missed any.
Edit2: all variants should be merged now.

a quick idea yesterday i received an update and accidentally pressed on “update now” button I had the tethered twrp installed so it kept booting in fastboot I couldn't boot normally it always booted in fastboot. now my idea is if you would be able to find what is forcing the phone to boot to recovery and change the command/target file to something on your sdcard and to just boot that, you could set it up to boot into a custom kernel every reboot without a problem.

good

Sounds good, but I don't think it's that easy unfortunately. I guess the updater sets an indicator that an update has to be applied, which simply forces a recovery reboot. The rest of it is more or less the dual boot functionality of Siyah, with one exception, we can't change the boot partition without triggering the security, means this functionality would have to reside within system and would have to replace a already booted kernel with another one in memory. That's not an easy task. Another way would be a hacked fastboot which boots an predefined image from the sd, but this would only be helpful if we at least can change the fastboot partition, what probably also triggers the security, but I'm not sure about that. Sorry.

ow well back to the cm11 kernel on top of the orriginal to not trigger security idea

So, I've packed Images for D855 and D851 for public testing, there are no bells or whistles added, default behaviour, only difference to complete stock is, they are build with the linaro toolchain, though not with -O3 optimization (it builds fine with it, but won't boot, but just freezes at fastboot, so I left it out for now).
I won't add a guide how to apply those images over fastboot though, if you know how, try it, if not, let it be!!! (but as a hint to those capable of doing it, but just not knowing the exact steps, it's the same as with the tethered twrp, you just have to boot the boot.img instead of the twrp.img)
DON'T TRY TO FLASH IT THROUGH RECOVERY, it won't work, but you for sure can build a flashable zip for yourself from it for the D851, but please don't share it publicly, there are probably some which would try to flash it on other variants and brick their devices because of the locked bootloader.

That's just because it is better compressed when it's repacked, my stock image has 16,8 mb
It's almost the same, just two small differences in the ramdisk
This is at your init.g3.rc but not at mine:
Code:

chmod 0660 /sys/bus/i2c/devices/0-0036/lm3697_bl_max
chown system system /sys/bus/i2c/devices/0-0036/lm3697_bl_max
#[END][[email protected]]
That's at my init.lge.usb.rc but not yours:
Code:
# vzw llk mode
on property:persist.sys.store_demo_enabled=1
write /sys/class/power_supply/battery/store_demo_enabled 1
on property:persist.sys.store_demo_enabled=0
write /sys/class/power_supply/battery/store_demo_enabled 0
They are the same

ROOT
We have root, using the method described by @avicohh, whose guide can be found here.
TWRP Recovery
Edit:
We have an updated 2.8.7.0 TWRP Recovery created by @dirtyhewr, which can be downloaded here. This is new as of 2 Feb 2016.
Exactly one month later, @dirtyhewr has released the NEW and improved TWRP 3.0 image. It can be found here.
Sprint and ATT FlashTool DLLs
@tripptofan gave us the Sprint DLL for the FlashTool, and multiple users can confirm that it works. Here is that DLL. Hyelton's Mirror of the DLL.
The ATT DLL can be found here. Thank @i2andog for that one.
Sprint TOT and ATT TOT
Thanks to @hyelton, the Sprint TOT can be downloaded here.
Thanks to @i2andog, who gave us the ATT DLL, we have a TOT as well for you ATT folks here.
ROMs and KernelsKernel: Dirty Kernel by @dirtyhewr. Flash through Flashify until further notice.
Honorable MentionsA TWRP backup of all partitions other than /data and /cache, can be found here. It is based off ZV5, and only works for Sprint. If someone would like to contribute an ATT version for future use, upload it and I'll get it in the OP. Rooted is preferred.
I also have the ZV6 FOTA update for Sprint. It can be found here.
An added bonus: A-boot image for ZV6 and also the LS885 partition lists by name and block.
Check this OP regularly for future updates.
@DaemeonZane
Thank you so much!!
Anyway to use the flashtool to unbrick the LS885??
So far, no. We need someone to locate the DLL and things for the FlashTool to work. Have you tried to use fastboot to push the recovery to the unit and using my TWRP backup to restore it? I'm not 100% on whether this unit HAS fastboot, but that could be an option.
As soon as someone is willing to dd their stock recovery we'll have a way to reflash the stock back to the device and try to cover any tracks left behind.

How can i flash the TWRP in download mode?
As far as i know LG doesn't have a fastboot mode.....
I have this device... I 100% hate it due to the fact that the stock os sux more than anything I have ever known... it has 4 cpus, so one would think it would be a little fast, but no... wish someone would compile cm for it... I lack the necessary skills, though I have tried. . there is no device tree for it...
another problem faced with this device is the locked boot loader... although I understand theoretically it can be "bumped", should a Rom become available... I'm glad someone at least is trying to get a thread going tho! this is my first LG and will definitely be my last... but until the lease runs out, I am stuck with it...

I used the method for unrooting a standard LG G3 I found elsewhere to fix an issue with a LS885 that was unsuccessfully rooted, but I have reached an impasse. After the s/w download finishes and the device restarts, the screen shows the number "2" and my computer tries to reconnect and install the LGE Android drivers. The problem is it never installs the drivers to connect again and the flash fails. I'm wondering what I am doing wrong here...
@tripptofan: I saw something on that over at the regular G3. The fix may be the same. http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/problem-returning-to-stock-try-t2862463
We share a lot of similarities with other LG devices, especially the G3, but their ROMs won't work for us. Yet. In the meantime I'm trying to talk to a buddy of mine on here to see what he can do to help out with ROM development. Until we get ROMs for this unit and get everything else going, we're stuck using just a thread.

Using the steps listed above and the stock software and DLL file that should be provided in this thread soon you can restore the LS885 to it's factory settings.

status update on root for our device

Me, Honestly Annoying, and 4 others are working getting root, and fastboot working on our device. As far as where we are at (as of this post), fastboot pulls up on the phone and the computer recognizes it, most fastboot commands work, but the ones involving unlocking the bootloader don't work. On every file we have tried up to this point, except for the userdebug I posted a bit ago we get file "signature verification failed", but that is due to a locked bootloader. we have been working nonstop to get the fastboot to function in our device so we can unlock our bootloader. If, and I mean if, this works right, it will easily be applied to quite a few devices. so, in short, we are working on it. We will release the files we have once we are SURE that they work like they are supposed to.
Just don't ask how long it's gonna take to be completed, cuz we honestly don't know. But we are working almost night and day to get this done
For real... Been day and night on this one
If anyone has any ACTUAL questions (ie. not an ETA), please ask them. If you would like to offer ACTUAL help (ie. not "I will test your root method" because there is none to test) please tell us here! Also, @autoprime you have been strangely quiet about all of this, can you offer some insight about where we are? It would be much appreciated

No worries... this is OK
A while back Tungkick made me a TOT that booted into fastboot. Don't know what she did to edit it, but it works. However it did not recognize ANY fastboot commands, but once I enabled userdebug by editing the build.prop it started to recognize some of them. As far as aboot goes, that's all @schizoidd and I'll let him explain
ok so what has been edited and done. i looked at our aboot and compared it to tmobile's and noticed a few things were missing like the "welcome to fastboot" and a few other things. and on ours, there was some random characters that were in ours but not in t-mobile's nor on the verizon one, so on the stock edited, i just deleted that code. and like Honestly Annoying said, it booted without an issue. i also created another file with tmobile and sprint's aboot merged together and it also booted.
the things done on the merged aboot, sprint encryption, keysand a few other things, tmobile everything else. i have the files but will not upload to here until i know what's all going on

The TWRP team cannot afford to buy every device made. However, TWRP is fully open source, so you may begin the porting process by using the compile guide at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32965365
Although you may be able to compile it, testing is another matter. You will need a stock recovery image to revert to when your TWRP doesn't work properly.
I have received a request and will begin porting it today, I'll need someone with an unlocked bootloader to join #twrp between 1 pm and 2 am EST for testing.
I'm still having trouble finding stock firmware, however. I may be able to get around this, I'll also see about making a full factory firmware fastboot flashable.

I have an unlocked Axon 7. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help, so long as it won't ruin the phone. I'm reasonably comfortable flashing software and such.

Well, if no one joins #twrp it's effectively not volunteering - so far no one has.
(it could go weeks without anyone joining, so please, step up if you can)

Already got that, merged it into the CAF branch and updated it as well!
https://github.com/jcadduono/android_kernel_zte_msm8996/commits/stock-6.0
I think ZTE deserves an award here, as they used almost pure CAF and very up to date! (I only had to merge like 8 commits to be current)

OnePlus 3T slow start!

Nobody has to get that done. It's already done. Fastboot OEM unlock unlocks the bootloader. And root with SuperSu or phh superuser. All we really need is TWRP.

lol u r correct, i forgot about that, i guess just have to wait on a TWRP then.
TWRP is actually waiting on you.
Join #twrp and you'll have it. (see signature for link, or click here)
Basically, we don't have the crypto libraries needed for decrypt because OnePlus hasn't made 3T firmware available yet.
I want you to install a half-working build of TWRP and guide you through making a full firmware flashing backup so I can use that to complete support.
Hop, skip, get to it!
(and no, you will get nothing good out of waiting for someone else to step up)
PS. if you post here saying you will come if no one else does, all you're doing is stopping other people from assisting
Update 1:42 AM EST: no one's showed up yet so I can only assume not many people have received their device yet. i'm gonna take a nap now and i'll be back on in ~10 hours... so about 12 PM EST maybe later. you won't find me online before then. (that's 5 PM UTC+0)

No risk.

nope, you can probably also just make a rooted boot.img to flash with fastboot but why bother when twrp is much easier?

I was thinking, is it possible to do 'fastboot update supersu.zip' first, then backup all the partition first before doing anything. At a minimum you should be able to backup the recovery and rom partition so you can't screw up too bad, since there is no ROM image and official TWRP at the moment.

I'm about 100% percent sure that won't work. I would wait for TWRP.

thanks to @dustin_b twrp is almost complete, I have backup images stored at https://build.nethunter.com/misc/oneplus3T/partitions/ for now which should work through fastboot flash (100% stock, untouched, all dd copies)
should have a public TWRP image up in an hour or 2
I hope that we will see CM14.1 in a week or two. Oxygen OS is a mess full of security bugs.
Cool so root and twrp tonight

Flash GSI Roms on Razer Phone 2!

While looking around and trying to compile TWRP and getting errors doing so, I have finall come accross a solution as to how to get GSI roms to boot, it seems we needed special flash instructions and im eve gonna test some other things later. But without further do, here are the instructions!
Step 1: Go here and read instructions CAREFULLY! "https://www.xda-developers.com/flash-generic-system-image-project-treble-device/"
Step 2: We need special flash instructions so flash this command. "fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img" (Special flashing instructions here https://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...18&postcount=2)
Step 3: if it doesnt work, try again. I am currently booting into Phh-Treble.
Step 4: Rejoice as we can now get away from stock!
Credits where credit is due !
UPDATE: Okay so, pretty sure dm-verify is making it so it doesnt fully boot :/ still working on it.

what you want to do is downlaod the stock rom, unzup it to desktop. copy your boot.img to your phone. download magisk manager from the xda thread. install the manager and then patch the boot.img. reboot the phone and you'll see it in your downlads. copy that to your stock rom folder (you'll need adb and fastboot files). run the command "fastboot flash boot boot.img" and youre rooted. but at this current time root is kinda pointless.
also... be sure to check out the root guide first. forgot you need to unlock bootloader and critical.

I'm kind of a noob in this regard. Can I PM you to get further Details on the rooting?
"but at this current time root is kinda pointless."
Also your right about this. There's currently no effective use for it right now. But there will soon be more in the future for the phone i believe. I think more people are starting to communicate and experiment with the RP2
