Just letting everyone know a blog called Androidpit recently posted an article about some hidden settings in the Moto X and Moto G.

I can confirm that this method works to get these hidden settings but cannot say what exactly they do as I haven't had time to mess with them.
As always, these settings were not meant to be changed so don't blame me if stuff goes haywire.
Have fun!
The Settings
- Dim Screen
(Not quite sure what this does, maybe turns off auto dimming the screen?)
- On-device Logging
'Redirect all DIAG traffic to Memory Device on Phone'
(No clue)
- Stay on plugged
(Was checked already)
- USB Mass Storage
- USB Remote Wakeup
(No clue)
- SD Polling
- Dual Microphone
(Disabled on my VZN Moto X, grayed out)
- ANC
(No idea)
- Sensors
- Incall music
- IMS registration
(Disabled on my VZN Moto X, grayed out)
- Voice call auto answer
(5, 10, 15 seconds and disable)
- Fluence
(Options are 'off, dualmic, and quadmic', something to do with audio?)
- Data call go dormant
(Numeral input)
- Content adaptive backlight options
(Disabled on my VZN Moto X, grayed out)
- Picture Attributes
(Crashes the activity)
- OTG Mode
(None and peripheral)
- Data Usage
(You can set a numeral limit here)
- Data Monitor
(Default enabled)
- Gestures touch injection
(?)
- File Manager
(Looks like you can set the default File Manager?)
After reading into this some more, I've heard reports of this maybe not working on Moto Gs. Also these options don't seem to stick after reboots unfortunately.
Still interesting but not very useful.
Is your device rooted and write protection turned off? Might stick in that scenario
i'm curious if the monitor data selection has any bearing on how data usage is reported back to big red?
ANC = Active Noise Cancellation?
That's all I can think of really. It's right under the dual microphone setting, so it kind of makes sense, I guess.
Picture attributes - HSIC values is Hilbert-Schmidt Independence Criterion. IIRC, this has to do with image quality and noise. Could be of some use?

Mine crashes anytime I select that setting, but I'm not rooted. The camera on the Moto X has an accessory chip anyway that converts the RGBC to normalized RGGB/RGBG (Bayer) values.

Gotcha. Probably already configured in the kernel, which might be why it FC's when you select it while not rooted. Probably a different story on a custom kernel, however, but that's outside my scope.
Has anyone figured out what the first option, dim screen, means?
I have that one, one of the few that work, set. It adds a layer of dimmness graduation once the display time out is up.
But I have not even really tested it.

Is that on the moto g? I wouldn't think it would do anything on the x.
No I'm on a X and ya does nothing but interesting because I believe the moto g only has white as an led option

I also found that LED option. You can find many more using the activity shortcuts in nova launcher. But maybe one of those could be used as BL unlock volunerbility?

Not a chance. Read up on token validation logic to understand why a hidden menu could never unlock the BL.
There is a whole new other menu:
Add another shortcut an choose: CQATest - CQATest (.Test_MenuMode)
There you can do lots and lots of tests.

None of the menu options do anything on XT1060. I tried adding a shortcut to the activities as well but still nothing.
If anyone has any idea how to allow these to work, let me know.

I can start the activities, it just doesn't do anything. It launches a black screen and then goes back.

I started to code a small widget collection to make good use of the nice HTC Desire flash led as flashlight and more...
At the moment only one App Widget is ready for testing, more widgets and configuration options are in the works.
(also works on standard ROMs, no root required)
If someone wants to give it a try:
While in configuration the led is on so you can check how bright your choosen level is.

I'm liking it so far, the simple on off from the widget is preferable to a program. Thanks f3d0r
Brilliant. Simple. To the point.
Is it possible to do another widget (different program) that does the LED light at FULL power ?
Thanks.
I like the idea. I don't like the icon. And could be brighter?

I tweaked the icon a little bit by adding some padding, more sophisticated icons may be following
Does this app require a rooted desire or will it work on any old desire?
UPDATE: Tested it out on my unrooted desire and works fine . Awesome app been looking for one for since i got the desire, i tend to lose things hehe....
A small comment on the request for more brightness:
In full-power/flash mode the led would overheat quickly without extensive cooling (which the desire lacks for sure). The rsult would be a dead led in very short time.
However, a "Boost" widget which switches the led to full power mode for a few seconds will be added next.
I'm keeping this version, I like the slightly larger icon and I dont need a boost
thanks again
and again x
I love the widget as it is, thanks!
Very nice, love it - will it be released on the market?

In fact the Widget does not request any permissions in it's manifest but this seems to be an issue of android backward compatibility:
code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=4101
However, as we don't need this I have fixed the issue by specifying a Min SDK requirement in already updated APK.

+1 for anything that makes it brighter and also Strobe effect ... etc etc.
Thanks
Excellent work
The Widget works well. Maybe make a way to lock screen when you turn it on so you don't accidentally hit other stuff when you're using the light. When I use a light I am usually not paying attention to what I am hitting on the screen. lol.
How did you get screenshots of your phone with Android? I haven't seen any apps that let you do it without root access.

Car Dock *Root* - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.warner.carmode
I just made this app recently to initiate the Car Dock functionality for my Nexus 5.
Advantages of car dock mode: Landscape mode on home screen, auto speaker phone when getting calls, other little features that people may have used in the past

SUPER simple app that doubles as a 1x1 widget. Unfortunately though, it requires root to put the device into the appropriate Car Dock mode due to having to execute a simple one line shell command. The standard SDK broadcast intents don't have the appropriate permissions to execute the Car Dock mode correctly.
Note: Don't disable Car Dock mode using the system notification. This is a notification provided by the Android OS and incorrectly disables Car Dock mode the same way you could do so without escalated privileges. Essentially it just shuts of car dock mode but doesn't disable rotation on the home screen which is the big thing.
Let me know what you think, was gonna share it around.

Galaxy Nexus w/ 4.3 Cyanogenmod

It allows you to put the phone in landscape during the home screen and makes things a lot more automated for car situations. Like it will automatically put your calls in speaker phone mode and other little things.
I had used Car Dock mode a lot with my Galaxy Nexus when I would put it in the car dock because the pogo pins would set it to that mode, but now it's not as accessible with the Nexus 5 since there isn't a dedicated dock for it.
Thanks for sharing. Initial impression - looks nice, installed it via Play Store and running, screen rotate with most apps (Youtube, Maps & Google Now, etc.) - simplistic & functional, will test it tomorrow on a snow day as we need to head out. Having incoming calls to ring & answer in speakerphone mode is perfect when BT isn't connected ... not that I advocate distracted driving behind the wheels.
What will it take to rotate the stock telephone dialer and/or the Talkatone dialer? Google/LG should've included the Car Dock on its installed App list for the Nexus 5. I like it. :highfive:
Hm... How is it different from my app (which works as I described here)?
Also, my app doesn't require you to "not disable the car dock mode from the system notification", as it will still correctly disable car mode just fine on a second launch, without any reboot.

OMG, no, I was just asking what's the difference.
E.g., he could have used a different method of achieving the dock state, like firing up a broadcast message via am command (which I've failed to do properly), or something else. I just wanted to know how this one works, that's all.

Can I do a request? I think this would be more useful with a Tasker plugin or a separated switcher for on/off. The reason is sometimes using NFC lockscreenoff enabler xposed module for tag lost detection, when a tag is lost very early, then the car mode goes inverted cause you can't set a task for swith car mode on or off, just toggle.
Sorry for my poor English.
Thanks

This is actually a menu I found inside the Sounds and Notifications part of the Settings menu, where you have a list of apps and you can configure them to be Priority or Blocked.
There was a Sensitive setting, which still shows up as gray text underneath the apps where I set them (along with Blocked and Priority when necessary) so apparently my S5 remembers I once configured several apps to be explicitly Sensitive.
I thought this behavior was intentional, so I was really disappointed when my S5 wouldn't hide the things I marked as Sensitive when I set lock screen notifications to Show All, and I was disappointed again when I set the notification mode to Hide Sensitive and it didn't show the notifications I had marked as not being Sensitive.
But now this option has disappeared. Is it available in your phone, like my screenshot?

Odd. Do you have a Priority mode, and if so, maybe you have to enable it first?
I manually set some of my apps to be Sensitive before the option was revoked.
None of the Sensitive-marked apps show the option, so I can no longer make any app Sensitive. The app I have a screenshot of above also no longer has the option, indicating something's changed.

Same problem - Success
I had the same problem. It seems to be implemented opposite how I thought. You have to choose "Show all content", then choose what apps' notifications should be treated as sensitive.
One change I make to all my android devices pretty much immediately is installing a center clock mod. On my Pixel 2 XL I haven't been able to get one working without the side effect of having status icons show up on the always-on display, which is a bad idea because of burn-in potential. Today I had a thought: since it's possible to disable those icons using systemui tuner, why not just automate that process? As of now I have it working perfectly: clock centered, status icons show up on lockscreen and when the device is unlocked, while AOD looks clean as ever.

You'll need Tasker, AutoTools with WRITE_SYSTEM_SETTINGS enabled through ADB, and the Clock tweaks for O substratum module to get this working.
We're going to set up two Tasker tasks. One will fire on Event-Display Off, the other on Event-Display On. (You can alternatively use Event-Display Unlocked if you prefer no status icons on your lockscreen either.)
The first task (triggered by Display Off) checks your current icon setup, then disables all icons. It consists of three steps:
Step 1: AutoTools Secure Settings.
Configuration: Custom Setting
Setting type: secure
Name: icon_blacklist
Input type: string
Value: LEAVE BLANK
Read setting: enabled
(this reads current icon setup into a local variable)
Step 2: Variable Set
%Icon_blacklist
to
%icon_blacklist
(note capitalization. this puts current setup into a global variable for use later)
Step 3: AutoTools Secure Settings.
Configuration: Custom Setting
Setting type: secure
Name: icon_blacklist
Input type: string
Value: battery,zen,cast,wifi,alarm_clock,headset,hotspot,bluetooth,mobile,ethernet,rotate,volume,managed_profile
Read setting: disabled
(this blacklists ALL status icons)
The second task (triggered by Display On or Display Unlocked) is just one step:
AutoTools Secure Settings.
Configuration: Custom Setting
Setting type: secure
Name: icon_blacklist
Input type: string
Value: %Icon_blacklist
Read setting: disabled
(this restores your saved setup)
Obviously, you'll want to enable the center clock mod through substratum as well.
You may notice some lag in the icons appearing or disappearing; from what I've seen, icons enabling when I turn on the screen happens instantly 95% of the time, but there's sometimes a second or two delay in them disappearing when I lock the phone. Don't really see this as a problem, though - it's not like I'm looking intently at my phone right after locking it.
[Edit: it seems like lag on wake is more likely if the phone's been off for a few minutes, probably because it's waking from doze. Still, it's no more than a couple of seconds.]
If you're *really* picky, you could probably find a way to trigger these profiles on notification shade expanded/collapsed as well, seeing as there's also the glitch of the statusbar icons being visible through that new translucent shade when they shouldn't be...but I'm not going to go that far!
Or you could just use substweaks and not have the double statusbar in the first place

It's not a double status bar, it's the status bar icons staying visible on always-on display. Only one set of icons but appearing where they shouldn't. Still present with substweaks (tried it earlier today to see if an update had resolved it - no luck), as well as with the multi-mod posted in the development forum (though the dev there was making progress with it, last I checked).

I'm sorry, I thought you were referencing a way substweaks can prevent the icons in AOD.
Post up your wish-list of custom options for custom ROM's (non OP) and Kernels and I'll add them to the OP.
This is for options that you aren't finding in any ROM, or at least not in your favorite ROM.
Feel free to mention your current ROM if you like but this thread is NOT about which ROM is the best or your favorite.
Please don't turn it into that. :good:
I'll try to bold new suggestions every day or so till the thread gets tired.
*Ability to filter out specific notifications from appearing (ie: NotifyClean)
*Bring "only show running apps" option back to Slim Recents.
*Clearly mentioned in OP if rom supports encryption/decryption.
*Day/Night - Provide option to switch between two different Substratum themes at toggle of a button.
*Fix the earphone bug.
*Fully working OOS camera
*Now Playing features from Pixel 2 XL detect song from lockscreen via ambient
*Option to remove USB Debugging notification is missing on some newer ROM's.
*Ring on charge complete
*Vibration - Would like to have option for more than 100% vibration.
- Clearly mentioned in OP if rom supports encryption/decryption. That is not always the case and people ask many times in the same thread.
- Long press back to kill foreground app.
Fully working OOS camera times 100. Literally the only thing stopping me from switching from OOS betas. I'm aware of the Google Camera functionality and also about all its problems.
Ability to filter out specific notifications from appearing. For example, my wife and I 'share' an Amazon Prime Photos account. I don't want a 'Successfully uploaded photos from your 3rd device' notification every time she uploads something. But I don't want to mute notifications for the whole app (or sometimes even notification group) as I may not get the 'upload progress' notifications' anymore. The Xposed module Notify Clean was perfect pre-Nougat and AutoNotification works alright post-Nougat, but it would be nice if this was baked into the ROM.

Just FYI, this is already available in every custom ROM I've tried so far.
You just have to enable the navigation bar options and then go into the button editor. I set up all my ROM's with this. And set the home button to open camera on long press.

OMG, if NotifyClean ever gets updated for Oreo I will go back to using Xposed again.
I really miss that app and some of the others by that dev. :good:
Hello there,
First off, the only couple things that stopping me to move from stock to a custom rom is the OOS camera (as mentioned above) and mostly the earphone bug. The mic on the phone and the earphones seems to be activated during a call and it gets pretty annoying to hear an amplified background of your environment and the person's on the other end, seems like most custom roms have this problem.
I've also long wanted to see ''ring on charge complete'' on the OP5T.
Thank you for asking.

I think this might be an option using Light Flow?
If you really want it then it might be worth looking into.
It does custom ringtones for certain actions.
And they can be backed up for ROM re-flashes as long as the ringtone is stored in the usual spot /system/media/sounds/etc.

*Day/Night - Provide option to switch between two different Substratum themes at toggle of a button.

A few ROM's provide built in day/night theme options.
But they don't theme apps like phone or calculator or anything else.
They only theme the settings and drop-down and a couple other things.
I want a nice non-tasker hack.
And would be willing to donate for it
