Worked for me too.
Is there maybe another link? Keep in mind that I'm on 3.2.5. I even tried to side load it. I've emailed the devs and didn't get a response. I'm not a newb to Android, but Kindle is proprietary.
If somebody could tell me that they can download the file, either on a PC or on the Kindle, then I'll have to email the devs again. Any help would be much appreciated. I've had the Kindle for almost 3 weeks now. Again, I'm on 14.3.2.5.

Will Kindle updates break root? My last update was to 3.2.4 back in July. If I turn on wireless and let it update can I maybe run this again to regain root, or will it not be lost?

I would like to know that too. I'm on 3.2.5 though and not getting much feedback. I would rather not rollback. But I really want root. As I said, I do like the Fire OS. So just want to root it and play around with it for a while. It is better than my N10. But I need Google apps and to get rid of the proprietary stuff so I can do my tech stuff on the fly. I use my phone or laptop. They aren't always convenient. The Kindle seems perfect for what I do. 3 weeks I've had it and still no root. Amazon apps are usually older and they don't have a lot that I need
I have a 8.9 hdx and I just rooted and installed google play today. I am also on the same software version as you. I used towel root.

Yep, I read that the standard version looks for an IMEI number that a tablet like this would not have, while the premium version does not check for that.

The pop up windows shows my SN, no MAC address and IMEI 00-SN, but after the adb it reboots and I found the IMEI still remains blank, XDA app still FC. Tried many times no luck. Please help.

Problem solved by updating the JAVA, realized the issue after reading the original OP carefully. Thanks the guide, it's wonderful.
I had the same problem with the XDA app Force Closing on my Rooted Kindle Fire, still on the stock ROM. Sounds like the easy fix is just to purchase the premium which I intended to do but had wanted to check out the free app first. If you guys say premium is working good then I'm going to get it.

I am using the cm7 rom on my kindle fire. The one that whistlestop posted. I am trying to use an app from the Android market. I can download it to my fire but when I open it I get the message that it is not supported on this device. I know I read that it is not supported on tablets, but I was curious if I can "disguise" my tablet to look like an Android phone that is supported by the app. Thanks.
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium
Which app are you trying to install? Have you tried getting the APK for it and manually installing it?
It is AppRedeem. On the info page the app says it does not currently support Android tablets but I wasnt sure if I could make my fire appear to be an Android phone so it will work. I have downloaded it from the market and I have also manually installed via adb with the apk but when I open the app it tells me it is not supported on my device.
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium
Well I did some editing on my prop and manage to get my device to appear as a Samsung phone in the market but still no luck with getting the app to see my fire as a phone.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
When I go to the Market it says it is compatible with the Kindle Fire both in stock and ICS. Just thought you might find that interesting.
app
Have you tried cm7 or miui? Both are phone roms tweaked a bit for phones and could possibly solve the problem. I think that the problem isn't making your kindle look like a phone because that would only allow you to download the app which you already did. Good luck
There is thread about getting apps to work on the ICS roms. I was gonna do some editing to see if I can get whatsapp to run on cm7. Same thing, tablets not supported.
Sent from my Kindle Fire using Tapatalk
Disregard that editing nonsense. Another thread specifically about whatsapp said to backup the app on a running phone with titanium backup and then send the three backed up files to the fire and restore app+ data. Worked perfectly.

Thanks guyute74. I dont have an android phone so I cant do it myself. If anyone with an android phone and titanium wanted to back it up and send me the files I would really appreciate it. Shoot me a pm and I can give you my email.

I was hoping someone could take the time to back up the app on an Android phone with tutanium back up and send it to me or post it to mediafire or something similar. The app is free on the market so this is plenty legal. If anyone could help me out I will be sure to click thanks. You can shoot me a pm or post here. Thanks guys.

In the android market (google play) there is a timewarner cable app that lets you watch live tv on your android device, but only if you have an ICS device and you are not rooted. YOU ALSO HAVE TO BE A TIMEWARNER CABLE INTERNET AND TELEVISION SUBSCRIBER. Well i found in the galaxy nexus forums someone changed the APK around to allow rooted devices. So now on my kindle fire I am watching live tv. FYI I am usuing GedeRom 3/15.

I will be interested to see if you can get Bluetooth to work. I am sure the TI chipset
has Bluetooth enabled. Respond with your results.

Another idea is to contact TI, find out if the enable Bluetooth on that board. There are a number
of Android utilities that probe the motherboard, one is JFDP Labs Android Hardware
Info, you can get it on Google Play. Ahhh, I should have known this, you do not have the
XML installed, so the Kernel will not initialize it. I have attached the update to this thread
or you can download it here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/54456659/Bluetooth%281%29.zip
Here we go, first unzip it, then copy:
Bluetooth.apk to /system/app
Bluetooth.odex to /system/app
Bluetooth folder to /system/etc
android.harware.bluetooth.xml to /system/etc/permissions
Reboot the Kindle.

We just got a response from TI, "Bluetooth and Dolby are disabled at the hardware level on the Kindle Fire 2 7"
There is no way to enable these features on the Kindle Fire 2, period".
Sorry, I wish we had better news.

Willieboya,
No, it has been disabled at the TI board, thus they probably did not install the required Bluetooth
Transmitter and Receiver with antenna. The dongle idea may work, we are working on USB drivers
for both the Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire 2, IF we get these drivers functional, there will be
Bluetooth support. Our development team is looking to see if Amazon has the necessary
communication to the motherboard - my development team believes everything is there,
so look for a driver within the next 4 to 6 months. We spend a large amount of the time
Quality testing our drivers, so this is the reason for the delay. Next, when you say
"sky go" do you mean the Sky Go Launcher?
No sky go is in uk for streaming sky television to android devices. The app can install on kindle fire but when you click on a tv station it says the device is not supported. Obviously sky hasn't been developing for tablets thus the reason for not being supported but just wondering if any devs would be able to adapt it to suit our kindle

Just curious why it says this chip has Bluetooth capability then? Did they actually modify the chip to not work or is it that it needs kernel drivers to work. Just wondering because they did manage to get Bluetooth going on a kindle fire 1st gen but the range was really bad like 3 inches max

rockystar000,
Great question! The TI OMAP4430 chipset includes Bluetooth through the TI WiLink.
I suspect Amazon has TI build a "custom WiLink" excluding the Bluetooth connectivity. Now, either way, the
Core OMAP4430 does have Bluetooth, GPS and FM Radio connectivity and communication paths. Having said
this, we would be able to initialize the Bluetooth through software but without the TI WiLink, I am not sure it
would work. I suspect we will drill down the answer in the next 6 months, when our developers have less to
do. Right now our developers are focusing on other options on the Kindle Fire. Maybe someone else will
have better luck.
