[Q] Lock screen security FC's Settings - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I'm trying to set my lock screen to use a pin and out of the blue now, whenever I press to change the security method... it crashes telling me Settings has stopped working. Any way to fix this? Restarting didn't help and really hate to think of trying a Factory reset after just installing all my apps. Was hoping someone might have another idea before resorting to that.

Try to restore previous data partition.
Just restore data from nandroid backup then the lock screen issues may solved.

(Q) Privacy Mode after xposed

First of all, I have uninstalled xposed framework to try and get back into my privacy mode. Secondly, for some reason my fingerprint scanner cannot recognize any of my prints anymore, it just stopped working all of the sudden. Only on the lock screen will my phone let me choose the alternative password. I have tried multiple times to change my fingerprint settings.
I am thinking about factory resetting, but I do not want to lose my images saved in privacy mode. Could I use root explorer to find those and move them to a folder on my SD card? Anything else I could do to try and get my fingerprint scanner working properly again so I don't have to factory reset?
Thanks
This is the message I get when trying to reset my alternative password. And yes, I have tried restarting but I still get the same error message.
Did you install SU?

TWRP Restore Problem with Fingerprint security

I have a nexus 6P running rooted stock rom and I wanted to try out a new rom. Before flashing the new rom, I made a nandroid backup via TWRP. Now, the rom that I was backing up had fingerprint security setup with backup passcode for unlocking the phone.
So I tried new rom and it didn't work (read-too many issues and too many crashes). Decided to revert back to my original setup. Went back into TWRP and restored the backup.
After booting the phone up, I can't log in to my phone anymore. As you know after every reboot, fingerprint sensor doesn't work unless you enter the backup passcode. So I am entering my passcode and its not accepted. I have tried entering passcode many times but to no avail. I know my passcode so possibility of me forgetting it is not valid.
Has anybody else seen or ran into this issue yet?
The step folks are missing is Prior to installing a backup you Must Change security to None before you even start a backup This clears password, pin and saved finger prints. I believe once security is changed it is safe to backup and then install backup. You will need to reenter Pin and Fingerprints.

You mean clear the security before making a backup ... right?
if not, how would I change security on a backup file of rom that had security enabled.
I have never used lock screen security before so never ran into this issue.
No, dig through this forum for tech details. But my understanding is anytime you make/install a backup or reflash rom or go back to stock you must reset you Security options in settings to None. You have security now, probably Fingerprints, and the required Lockscreen Pin.
If you try to install backup or Rom or whatever without doing so you get what you experienced. There is a path out of it if you read further.
Pin or Pattern on boot after restoring Nandroid

The interesting thing is, I intentionally chose to enter pattern/pin on rebooting. The strange (actually may not be strange .....but strange to me) thing is that even when I move on to different Roms, that initial choice is remembered and embedded since even after choosing not to require pin/pattern when rebooting, I get prompted. Also the pin/pattern works during recovery, it also works on the initial startup after restoring a backup but then fails after successful fingerprint use (it will actually say "wrong pin" or "wrong pattern") at the end of the booting process. The thing is, I have only used one pin and at other times one password ever with this device. Eventually I had to do a factory reset to solve this issue (thank goodness I was able to back up my internal storage to my computer in TWRP recovery mode).

How to Reset Fingerprint Cache After TWRP Restore?

Hello, I am testing out backup and restore from TWRP and so far everything is working after restore except for the fingerprint hardware. It shows up disabled when on the lock screen, and when trying to enable it, it fails. I've tried looking for a system app, or folder related to fingerprint, but cannot find one. Anyone know where it might be?
Settings->Security->Fingerprint
This will take you through the fingerprint set up process again.

MI A1 - Settings app crashing when trying to change screen lock

Today, I noticed that I had once a pattern lock and the phone just opened on swipe.
So, I went to settings and the security was set to swipe (I didn't change it). I clicked on it and the settings app crashed. Everything else in settings is working fine. Its just this thing causing trouble.
So the phone is crashing when trying to change screen lock
Some things you should know
1. I had rooted my phone with magisk manager about two weeks ago
2. I had substratum theme installed and overlayed on almost all apps including settings
3. After the settings crashing problem, I uninstalled magisk and had a full unroot and updated the security patch with a stock boot image
4. Everything else is still fine, but the settings crashing problem persists
I uninstalled all the apps that required root access before unrooting
Now the phone is unrooted back to normal no theme overlays, but the settings is still crashing when attempting to change screen lock and the fact being that it automatically changed to swipe
Any help would be appreciated

After reflashing Magisk everything stops working.

While I was trying to fix SafetyNet API error.
I tried reflashing the rom and I tried completely reinstalling it, But then when I pass the lock screen various things stops working:
-TouchWiz stopped
-Media Storage stopped
-Calendar stops working
-S Pen apps stop working
I can't access the homescreen, It's all black. However, I can screenshot and use the notification tap to go into apps and then go into apps by holding the home button. However various app keep stop working.
Thankfully, I have a nandroid backup. So I use it to go back to my previous state.
I can't fix the thing. Even cleaning cache on the apps. So I'm stuck. The only thing I can do is restore via Nandroid backup and try to figure it out what's the problem. Help!
