Hi I have recently bought Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7inch with 8 GB internal memory and 4 gb user available. I am using and 16GB external SD card. I copied game cache into external sd card Android/obb folder and installed the game but the game cache is not recognized. But if i copy the same into internal storage Android/obb its working fine. Is there any way to fix this with out rooting the phone. As the user available internal memory is very low i can not install many games.
Look for SD Card Kit Kat Fix in the play store by JRummy. That will probably solve your problem. I tried installing GTASA by putting the obb data in SD Card but it didn't work even with SD Card Fix.

I believe not. You must do it to emulated/0/sdcard
Sent from my SM-T230NU using XDA Free mobile app
If i am not wrong "emulated/0/sdcard" is the path of internal storage i want to install the app in an external storage. Is there a way to do that with out rooting the device. There is an nextapp sdfix app available in play store but the device nees to be rooted. I googled for the solution but all the solutions works only on rooted devices. So my question is there a way to solve this without rooting the device
No, you need to use an app like Foldermount to be able to move games with OBB directory, all methods require root.

Yeah, foldermount does it. It will link /sdcard/android/obb to /extsdcard (needs root)

better yet, has anyone figured out if you can flip flop the internal and external sd locations so the phone thinks your external sd card is the primary? I know this was possible on the X2 and the RAZR's.
I have the memory switch .zip file, but no way to install it on my rooted Droid RAZR M
I was curious how difficult would out be to just rename the internal storage from sd card to internal storage? If that is possible then we could just rename external to sd card then we should be able to move apps to the card easily.

nah. tried renaming them last week or so and it not only didnt work, the damn things renamed themselves upon reboot. im pretty pissedf about the memory on this phone cuz the phone itself is pretty snappy.
Dang I guess Motorola has this phone on lock down. I used my EVO 4g to copy songs over to my SD card and once I inserted it back in and tried to mount it, it kept saying blank, so I rebooted my phone and it showed up. If I wasn't as smart as I am I would have probably formatted the damn thing lmao I was wondering if they did that as a minor precaution to people trying to hack the phone with something on the SD card, but then again I'm sure if they did a reboot wouldn't have made it show up then.

This would effectively prevent me from using OmniROM ever.
Are you saying it's a bug, or that the feature has truly been eliminated going forward?
Security and file system changes have caused certain "move app to external storage" scripts and apps to fail. This is not an Android-level issue.

Do you know then, is there a way to fool apps to install at least their data on external card?
On N7100 there is mere 10GB of space, install 2 gameloft games, and phone cries it's out of storage space. And I have 64GB card, 128GB on its way.
I understand they cry for FAT32's lack of permission support, but what If I format the card in ext4?
Or could I possibly swap internal and external card (I, of course, understand it's risky and dangerous action).
I haven't looked into it yet, but this might help.

That's not the issue here.
I can read/write on both sdcards (emulated and physical).
Problem is that internal space runs out quickly, and there is no obvious way to force apps to use external card instead of emulated.
I.e. If I install Nova 3 (3.5 GB), Asphalt 8 (3.7 GB) and Galaxy on Fire 2 (1.2 GB), uce omnirom system update and make couple of photos, I'm out of space, and can't even update apps through google play, because it requires alot of extra space, not even mention i.e. recording a video. And my 64GB card sits useless in its slot.

If you are rooted you can accomplish this by using an app called folder mount. When you open the app use the add button at the top right name the folder, for example (RR3) for real racing, then tap the source button and navigate to the folder the app data is stored in, for games usually android/data or android/obb chose that folder and leave the destination folder name the same, it will prompt you so just chose yes, press the check button at the top right and then wait for the folder to be moved, you can monitor the progress in the status bar, it may take some time if it is a large game or app, when it is complete simply press the mount button in the folder mount app then go back and play your game. to verify that the folder was moved successfully check your internal storage in android settings before and after you use folder mount. Make sure before you use the app or game you have the folder mounted or you may get an error or in the case of real racing the game tried to redownload all the game assets. Hope this helps.
thank you
Hi guys,
I was trying to back up my nova feature to my SD card and for x reason it didn't work. Saving to internal storage work but that would be useless when wiping for a new ROM, I noticed I can't transfer files from my device too ( internal to SD gotta be done by computer). SD card is a 32gb Kingston

Use Samsung's own app for file moving, worked for me with with multimedia files.
Save it to phone memory then transfer to sd card using my files app.

SDFix definitely fixes the issue if you are rooted. Android 4.4 changes the stock permissions, so apps only have read/write permissions to folders that they create and can't write to folders created manually or by other apps. SDFix restores permissions to how they were prior to 4.4. Its less secure, but it allows programs like Titanium Backup to function again.

I have no problems with nova backup to sd on my s4,and its on 4.4 too
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Right now there isn't a way to change the folder where the Nova backups are stored (/sdcard/data/com.teslacoilsw.launcher/backup). What you can do next time is make your backup and then copy it to your SD card or PC. When you do your next reset you can copy that backup file back to where it's expected to be and be back in business. Kind of poor coding that you can't just save it to your SD in the first place...
Omega ROM doesn't have that glitch.
An app called File expert can read/write to external xd card without root. They have sorted this issue out
Sdfix did work guys. I used it to backup Nova setting on ExtSd

Guys, I'm trying to move my games to my External SD card since I've got only 1gb left of my internal, but when I try to do it just from the Application Manager inside Settings, it only moves a few megabytes (X-Com Enemy Unknown has 3.7gb and moved to SD 60mb of it, awesome...)
I'm rooted, using X-Note 13, knox tripped 2 minutes after getting inside the house with the phone, I don't care about warranty or stuff, just... Could someone provide a fix, please? Tried App2SD, Link2SD and other apps like this, but it seems all they do is just move provide me with a shortcut to the same Application Manager from Settings that does the same useless thing. I didn't get a 64gb sd card to move 60mb out of 3.7gb from a game, seriously...
I think it depends on the programing of the game what can be moved and what not. Some programs can't be moved at all, but most of the big games I have, large portions of the data was moved to SD card during the install all by itself. If you just purchased the card, maybe reinstalling the game from start would give you better results, if that was an option? Also it seems to me you're using close to 25 GB of internal storage but you only mention one game, surely you must have many other large programs installed, what about them? There are some programs that can fool the system into "thinking" your external SD card is internal memory and your internal memory becomes external, but I don't have details ATM, also this could create problems if your SD card went bad.
And maybe you should take a hard look and see if you really need all those programs? If I didn't keep the tabs and clean all the junk, delete less frequently used programs etc. on regular basis, 96GB of memory wouldn't be enough either LOL.
I mentioned just one game as an example. I have quite a lot of space-hungry games, such as Bard's Tale, Modern Combat 4, Gangstar 4, Amazing SpiderMan2, etc...a total of around 40 games, mostly large games, and I have basically moved everything I could from Application Manager, yet it moved very very very little out of them. I tried deleting and reinstalling them, formatting my sd card, reflashing the rom from scratch with fresh sd, basically same thing every time. I got this phone to be able to have a mobile console with me that can also receive calls (boring job, games on phone help a lot), and now my sd seems so pointless
Internal Memory 26.3gb - 1.2gb free
Ext SD Card 59.0gb - 42.6gb free
bump, please?
The only app that worked for me is FolderMount [ROOT].
RinaldiMe, thanks a lot man, I just bought that app, testing it now, but from it's description, it should do exactly what I hope . It requires individual move of each app and folder, but it does the trick, thank you so very much
Will come back with replies as soon as I move 5-10 apps and test it out more
L.E.: Nope, bought the app, not just the free version, moved some files, still didn't work, apps just thought they didn't have their files and wanted to redownload...

I'm assuming your on kk bootloader and dunno if Mattiadjs int2extsd mod will work on 4.4, but I've been using his script meant for JB 4.3 that switches where the huge data and obb files are stored to your extsd instead of internal storage.
Try checking the galaxy s4 thread for the kk mod, I'll try looking too and post a link for ya. I know what your going thru as I have over 500+ apps/games and needed the 128gb SanDisk to store all my obb/data files along with pics and mp3 media.

Read op instructions. You have to put the same name folder both internal and external. Example: titanium backup. Both of internal and external must have the same name and caption.
Put all the titanium backup data in external titanium backup folder.
Leave titanium backup folder in internal empty.
Run the app, and select the correct path.

strange.. I have no problem before OR after rooting,(I have an s5 Active on AT&T)... Is it too much trouble to try restoring and starting from scratch? Quite obviously youre having a problem others aren't,(storing music on an sd card). That would lead one to belive its either a software or hardware problem specific to YOU only. Something has happened since your last clean set-up..
I don't know.. im quite slow witted but that's an idea..
of course, however, im adding them to the sd card FROM MY EXTERNAL HD. NOT from the s5 internal memory to the sd card... ...if that's the case, try moving from the phone's memory to a folder on your desktop and then back into the phone via sd card
Doing it that way yes I can achieve the desired result.
I have a media server that I used to be able to acces as follows
Es file explorer > media server
Copy file from server to sd card
Now I cant do it that way.
So I add the additional step and it works.
The other issue is quikpix or any 3rd party viewer I used to be able to delete pictures straight out of quikpix now it says I can only delete from the pre installed view (sviewer)
I hope that makes sense

Probably a permissions error. Kitkat restricted third party app access to the SD card to make the OS more secure. Which broke a lot of apps. But I'm just guessing because you didn't provide any details that would enable us to troubleshoot it properly. Lots of errors.. uh huh. But what were those errors? What firmware version? How is the SD card formatted? What app are you using when the errors occur?
It's like saying your car is having problems.. but not giving any idea of what that really means. Did you have trouble starting your car? Won't go faster than 70 km/h.. stall.. weak brakes.. oil pressure light on? And for that matter, what model of car are we talking about? Knowing what specific SD card errors you had is rather essential information and it's odd that you wouldn't give us those details.
I don't think you did a forum search or you would have literally tripped over all the SD card problem threads and mentioned that. Most of the recent threads talk about the problems Kitkat introduced and it isn't hard to find posts in many of them describing how to fix the issue.
.
