With so many threads and models and root methods, Its a little confusing. I was wondering what is the most popular/easy way to root the GSm on VZW?
Thanks
Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
With a 1 second search I returned 'Towelroot' as the only option available for rooting the VZW S5 retail...
With an additional minute of searching I found this.

Towelroot is the ONLY method to root the Vzw variant of the S5... Also, if you go to Geohots thread under general you'll see a link for the download. I never randomly download drop box links when the Dev posts their own link.

Believe I posted this already, and the link GeoHot provided only lets you DL v1, not v3 like is needed.

Read back to post #2. It's the DropBox link there and it also shows you already saw it. At the bottom of that post.

I saw your post, but forgive me if I don't trust your link 100%. I've been told to always dl links from the dev and not random drop box links.

Well the Dev is now working for Google. He's not going to have the link posted anymore. You have to get it from 3rd parties now... Good luck.

Ok, I will use your link. To clarify, the link you posted is v3 that should work on the VZW s5?
Thanks for all your help.

v3 should work yes, it is the last version he released. It can also be used for other kinds of phones to try and root them. make a copy of the .apk and keep it safe somewhere, just in case.

Yea, that was my thread I believe. The server I had them on mysteriously lost all my files. I will ask someone to post the files. I know Pete has some posted but it was brought to my attention that he changed some things so they are not technically stock.

That is the one to use for sure Love it!
Why is that thread only posted in the GSM section? You should split them, or copy and paste it in the 4G side too.

I've just been lazy, and I originally started that thread before xda split the Dev section.
I'll start a thread in the NS4G section soon.

Well if your new I'd suggest you start by reading the stickied thread posts.
Then root, flash recovery, and start flashing Roms.

After some research. I had determined that article to be false. Those builds for the Verizon note 3 are 4.3. I went to the download link which led me to the user who posted it. @DutchDogg54 is the contributor to that download. I checked his name here in the forums and confirmed, those are older 4.3 builds.
So. That being said, don't flash them.
Hope this helps.

Yea I saw those there is another link in the article that says it's for a kitkat download and I opened that link and it takes you to a download that's labeled recovery.tar not sure what's it's all about but I kind of figured it was bogus since I'm sure it would have been here before I posted the link

Yes, that site is posting bogus info. There is no 4.4.2 update for Verizon or several other variants. He has heard from me about this and about linking directly to my files which is a no-no. Sorry that you all had any confusion, but that's unfortunately what often happens around major version releases - people try to boost their sites click count by posting false information. Shame really.
To find all current and relevant information go to a trusted source - my thread in development - bold link in my signature. :good:
That's what I kinda figured

The modem itself needs flashed in the phone slot to stick, but fair warning - so far it can't be reversed.
(Oh, and thank @crawj for reminding how we did on S4, turned out same trick worked.)

I seem to have the same problem. Both software version and baseband are stuck on NCB. I tried flashing via phone, no errors after completion. Anyone have any ideas?
