Hi mates,
Got the G2 few weeks ago, and i got few problems:
1. Knock-on doesn't work anymore when i try to open the screen. I'm on KitKat 4.4.2 and using Nova Launcher Prime if it matters.
2. When i'm trying to navigate using Waze, I can't have GPS signal - It says something like Go Outdoors, Using Approximate Location and so and so.
How do i solve these up there?
Thanks
Does Knock-On work with the stock, LG launcher?
I'm assuming you've already checked location settings for Waze to have this on "high accuracy" for GPS settings, right?

It doesn't. And yeah i already checked the location settings. All seems to be fine but actually it just doesn't work right
Gps is terrible on the g2, i had mine RMA back to LG UK, and apprantly they have fixed it! well i still dont get GPS indoors and most i ever get is 5m accuracy, not ideal for running or cycling.
apprantly it is a hardward fault but after some googling it seems kitkat doesnt agree one hundred percent on the gps module , jellybean was suppose to work flawlessy with gps.

Your screen may have a dead spot. I had the same issue, and there's a really long thread on the forums about that.

Except for the knock-on issue, none of these apply to me.
Edit: after installing cloudyg3 the problem is gone. Let's hope that solved also the waze thing

I've just downloaded the Compass app from the market, but it doesn't seem to working correctly. I've tired both 'sensor types' but the direction it shows flickers and is incorrect.
Have any of you encountered the same issue?
you should try another app. I think gps status will work fine.

I've just tried that GPS Status app and it does work better then compass, but it seems to be about 40 degrees out when the phone is moves and even seems to wobble abit when it's stationary. I've made sure there's no interference before testing it out
Have you calibrated it?

Yep, I've done the figure '8' waving
I have this problem too. Definitely a sensor issue -- the apps work perfectly on other phones (and indeed I *think* the compass used to work).
This is really damn annoying -- part of the reason I got the phone was so I can make a gyroscope-assisted compass app.
Hmph.
Just installed it from the market and it worked without any settings adjustment on the SGS II.

I'm on the phone to O2 getting an exchange.
I'm hoping it's an uncommon problem
Let me know how that goes, I may have to do the same. My compass has since settled down but it is consistently off by about 25-30 degrees...
Maybe this is your problem too

Looks like the tablet I was given at I/O has a faulty GPS radio. Any other people from I/O know if there is any way to have that fixed/replaced now that the conference is over? Thanks.

Mine works fine. I've used it many times, and it always works.
Im very happy for you.
I found that mine from time to time has mysteriously unchecked its own use GPS box in the settings menu. This seems to have happened after I setup Exchange and once or twice since then. It looks to be another software oddity in the device.
Other than that i find it gets better GPS better than my SGT7 and EVO.
Im sure that the problem Im seeing isn't across the board. It just flat out doesn't work. Any app needing a location just hangs saying "waiting for location".

Switch all location services off in settings. ie untick both gps satellites and wifi location. Then power off, reboot and switch them all on again. Use gps test (chartcross) to see if you can get a lock.
You can also reset agps data if it remains slow to lock.

I already tried all tips I'v found (FasterFix, manual update of gps.conf, A-GPS Reset/forced update, power off, reboot, using GPS Status and GPS Test). Getting a stable GPS lock is very funny.
As other, my GPS lock is not locking properly. When I get it, I lost it on the road without any reason...

I was wondering what stock ROM but that's fine.
Please check the thread attached and make sure you do a backup.
If not I'm wondering if you have a hardware issue.
Thanks but this fix was not helping me...
So, I decided to disassembly the G2.
I solved my GPS problem by adding some alumium on the GPS antenna. Opening the G2 back cover is very easy (see video on youtube).
Before I was getting a GPS Lock on 0 sat (20 in view).
Now, I'm getting a GPS Lock on ~8 sat !!!
My girl friend was able to use her G2 while driving ~40km without any lost of GPS. It was impossible before "my fix".
Does the baseband and radio/modem and that stuff affect the GPS?
I'm also having difficulty get a lock on
Curious fix - squeeze the top right corner of the phone and see if you get a lock on!
Hey, hoping you guys can help me with a problem. I got a LS980 G2 a few months ago and promptly rooted and put PA on it (2/27 build at the time). I'm now on the 3/12 build, and I've noticed that my GPS doesn't work. I'm looking at GPS Test and I'm not getting any satellites in view.
From other posts, it appears that GPS works in PA 4 for other sprint g2s, but mine doesn't work. Does anyone know what might be wrong with it? Thanks!

Unfortunately, in my excitement of getting a new phone I never tested all the features before slapping TWRP and PA on it
ok ... so the first thing I suggest you download the app from the store that play is called "GPS test", put in an outdoor location and see if it works. If it does not work well you probably have the same problem I've had time ago, and many of whom suffer from G2, or that the GPS antenna is not well contact with the cover, and then the GPS reception is really bad. To fix this you must open the back cover and lift the contact, and ensure that they make contact with the cover.

I do have GPS test. When you were experiencing the issue, did you have 0 satellites in view also or just a really bad signal or no GPS lock?
2-3 satellites with bad quality signal

Cracking it open is definitely an option, although I'm afraid there is something else going on since I get 0 sats. I think i would at least get a few in view with bad quality.
GPS FIXED
Update on this issue for anyone that searches and finds this thread....
I fixed my GPS. The solution was to restore to stock, and reflash my rom. The interesting thing about this, is it appears that ANYTIME you do a revert to stock (at least using a .tot) you have to get a GPS lock or it will break GPS. I flashed the .tot, got GPS lock, rooted, recovery, and flashed Mahdi and GPS worked. I was having some unrelated issues with Mahdi, so I went back to stock again, did NOT lock GPS, rooted, recovery, and flashed PA. This time GPS did not work again. I repeated this process a third time getting a GPS lock and it works now.
So for anyone having the issue with 0 satellites in view (GPS Test from the play store will tell you), here is the fix for the LS980. Other phones can probably follow a similar process-
1. Flash the ZVC .tot to go back to stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2702422
---LS980 ONLY! Other phones have different files to flash
---This will WIPE your SD card, back up files first!
2. Get a GPS lock (GPS Test is handy for this)
3. IORoot to regain root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48709232&postcount=869
4. AutoRec to get TWRP again http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715496
5. Flash your ROM and you should be golden
I want to do the same, I've a D802, where can I take the file to flash the stock rom?

Hi,
Since after updating to Android Lollipop 5.0 from Kitkat 4.4.2 my GPS is giving so much issues while locking signal on Sygic, Navmii
its working absolutely fine when Internet (Wifi/3G) is enabled but for accessing offline maps it always search for satellites but never comes up with one even after 1-2 hours.
the same issue is occurring with S4 with same Lollipop 5.0, the same apps are working fine with Kitkat 4.4.2 but not it isn't working.
Tried to resolve the issue by using below link but failed, GPS should work without Wifi/3G/4G Data connection
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54196125&postcount=754
GPS Status app is also not giving any valid satellite locks.
I think i have STOCK version updated to 5.0 but not yet confirmed since i purchased the set in use condition
Always showing Searching for GPS

AGPS mate, AGPS. Have an app to download the AGPS data at short intervals. Without AGPS data this phone is just dumb to have a GPS lock, this is what I have experienced after doing almost everything I could to try to fix the GPS issue and ultimately giving up.
Or you could try the hardware thing like some others have mentioned, like straightening some pins or something if its bent, which I haven't done, but I am now considering it.
I had same problems in past time
But when I change the sygic with the new v it become connect with gps in 30 sc

This scenario is not working, either AGPS data is not downloaded or downloaded data is not locking any satellite.

What if my, it damages the phone during the process,
Secondly i already have 5.0 so should i move directly to part 3 ??
GPS is a kernel related problem or sometimes loose internal connection .
All AGPS does is speed up lock on .
Test by leaving GPS on in clear view of the sky for half an hour .

Umm, how it works I don't know man, but it works, that's all I know. Just install the app and install with the default settings (do not alter the settings, this is important), the gps.conf file will be patched with new settings, reboot the phone, and then go outside, get the first lock under clear sky, and then test anywhere. It locks for me anywhere!
