Another way to download google translate offline doesn't work on s5. Why?
Thanks to dzsergio , -SmOgER and gkprashu's posts.another way to download the google translate offline packeges was borned.
(Press on there names for the original posts)
Original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2234606
The steps where this:
-Download core files from here:
http://dl.google.com/translate/offline/v3/r1/c.zip
http://dl.google.com/translate/offline/v3/r1/profiles.txt
-Download the desired language pack from here:
French: http://dl.google.com/translate/offline/v3/r1/fr.zip
Spanish: http://dl.google.com/translate/offline/v3/r1/es.zip
Italian: http://dl.google.com/translate/offline/v3/r1/it.zip
... so on and so forth ...
Full list here
Put them in known folder on your device's memory (internal/external).
Open google translate application, setting, offline language, with your wifi connection on tap on the desired one.
Then when it goes to 0% or more, close wifi connection. Open a file manager copy the c.zip file first, and overwrite it here:
/Android/data/com.google.android.apps.translate/files/ol/v3r1/tmp/v3r1/zip (on sd or internal depends where you installed)
Then open wifi connection the c.zip file will load 100% in a second, do the same step for the lang.zip.
And I tryed this metod on 4 different devices and it worked flawlessly on 3 of them, but not on the s5..
My s5 si sm-g900f rooted sd card readable. No restriction.
It's clearly s5's fault, but what is the cause?
Who can help me solve this?
(I'm a truck driver, I travel all over europe, I use diverse sim cards for internet, witch is very expensive, most free wifi connections are limited on downlods, or very slow. I allready downloaded the files, I don't want to do it again, because it's expensive.)
Who can help me with this? Any hints?
P.S. On my s5, I see even if I move the translat.apk to sd card with link2sd app2sd etc, it still downloads it's offline packages to internal. The other devices can download it on external too.
You said that your SD card is readable, but is it freely writeable by third party apps? i.e. did you revert the Kitkat SD card restrictions in platform.xml? In the (less likely) alternative, it's possible that the S5 has a newer Google framework or something Samsung specific that uses a different path.
Also you should link to the original post to give us a context and make it easier to find the OP's original work.
.
I edited my post, the l8nks where if you pressed there names, now I mentioned the direct link to the original thread too. It was for Htc but worked on many devices.
My card is freely writeable by thirdparty apps, I have philz recovery and sdfix for kitkat installed.

I had a quick look at the original thread and agree with Desmanto's comments in post No.33 as to the most likely reasons it would fail on the S5 i.e. differences in the download manager or path.
If I find the time later, I'll look directly.

U8800V100R001C00B136(Overseas General version) is available at Huawei's downloadcenter. When I unzip that, there are two APPs in the dload folder, UPDATE.APP and UPDATE_CUST.APP
What is that CUST.APP, what does it include? Do I have to use that too when upgrading?
My current version seems to be U8800V100R001COOB136 with custom version CUSTC235D001 (Elisa-edition in Finland). Can I update my phone with that new package to get rid of extra applications?
Thanks, and sorry about stupid questions....
Hi, well to pinpoint out the most obvious. They included a pdf guide, have you given a quick look at it?
Simple steps.
1.Have clean SD card with a folder called dload and place everything in that folder. You must have at least 512MB free space after placing the files into SD card.
2.Turn off Phone.
3.Hold Volume down and up buttons, start the phone.
4.Wait, the phone will start upgrading firmware.
5.???
6.Profit !!!
Anyhow this should sum up the whole thing.
Don't forget to backup !
Thanks for the reply!
And yes, I read the pdf, actually twice
But now I still want to know what that UPDATE_CUST.APP contains (some Huawei-branded-extra-apps?), and do I have to install that too or can I remove it and use only UPDATE.APP....

yes u can skip UPDATE_CUST.APP and just upgrade with UPDATE.APP.. in this way ur current /cust/xxx/xxx/ folder will be kept intact..
that UPDATE_CUST.APP contains some extra apps that may or may not be useful to u.. though i have upgraded with the whole package, most of the cust apps were removed afterwards and i kept just 3 (Google Goggles, Huawei Input Method, and Swype Input Method)..
No problems in installation, everything worked fine after restart.
No more custom-apps/games
Some unnnecessary apps still available: Aldiko, Documents To Go, Hi Space...
Let's see if this works ok
When I go to huaweidevice.com and then downloads, I don't have the Build 136 to download, link anyone?
wiki dot modaco dot com/index.php/Huawei_Firmware_U8800
or
www dot huaweidevice dot com/cn/downloadCenter.do?method=list&flay=software&directoryId=20&treeId=0#
(no idea why there is this white space in "directoryId", remove it...)
Well, that "Overseas General version" did not work properly, calls end randomly, no idea how to fix that. Must use the original one...
Hi!
Just a few hours after upgrading to 4.4.2 (OTA official) I started to notice some "flaws" in the new OS. Of course there are lot´s of new good things too, but wouldn´t be better if we could eliminate some of the flaws too?
That´s why I´m creating this thread - with the purpose of exchanging experiences regarding the issues and solutions found in order to improve 4.4.2 usability.
I´m starting by sharing my experience with one of the most annoying drawbacks (at least in my opinion): the way external SD card is being used. 4.4.2 simply doesn´t allow data exchange between user installed programs (and data) and external SD card. I´m an user of FX File Manager (in my opinion one of the best file managers I ever seen).
When I opened for the first time in the new OS, the following message appeared: "Your SD Card may now be read only. This device is running Android 4.4 or later and appears to have both an internal storage area and external storage. Google imposed new restrictions in the Android 4.4 KitKat Update: applications that you install yourself ar no longer allowed to write to the "secondary external" storage (the MicroSD card). Applications installed by Google, the device manufacturer, and/or your mobile carrier ar exempt from this restriction. Only applications you choose to install are restricted. Some devices may not enforce this restriction, and other may have a means of disabling it. If you find yourself unable to write to your external SD card, please contact either your mobile carrier or device´s manufacturer support. This problem can be worked around if you have superuser access. Please refer to websites/forums related to your specific device for information."
Awkward!!!
I tried to move some files from my internal download to external SD card and no transfer was possible...
After searching for some workaround, the only way I could manage this situation was by installing ES File Explorer, which found a way to overcome this limitation for file transfer. Of course it solves the issue very partially, since no other programs (including photo / film software) will be able to overcome this problem.
I invite everyone who have/had an issue with 4.4.2 to use this as a way to exchange information, creating a single thread that will make easier to find issues and solutions (if available).
Fixing in general section. It was bug in leaked version but never thought they didn't fix it in OTA version? Flash 3rd kernel would pretty much solve problem I guess. But either way needs root access which means probably avoid warranty due to KNOX

1. Worse battery management than JB
2. More lagging in games and UI
Generally much ado about nothing imho
I am not installed yet the 4.4.2 update in my GT-I9505 because my carrier sure be the last one to adjust the base to post the update. (Venezuela - DIGITEL).
Regarding some of your issues, particulary the access to the SD Card, I recently read in one post on Questions section with two alternatives to activate the access to the card.
Check it and let us now if reallly working before the rest of the members take the adventure to install the 4.4.2 Kit Kat version.
Good look
what's up igruberger
I use X-plore on my S4, I can transfer files but I cant read newly transferred Mp3's from my external sd since kitcat 4.4 why has this stupid restriction being put in place!!!!! royally pissed off!!!!! and are you aware of any work around yet?? its not the phones manufacturer that can fix the problem, its the android software developers as its a software issue not hardware.
Problem whit my LTE
after the update i could not receive 3G or H or H+ or LTE only Edge someone know how to fix this i'm living in Belgium my carrier is Proximus
build I9505XXUGNF1

Hi @ all ,
I ask the question becasue unable to find the answer ..
i just need to change the download location of my browser (chrome or adblock) to external sd card .
But cannot find any information about this .
Can someone help me ???
if no usual option existing , my phone is rooted .
Thanks a lot .
I don't think you really can.
Even if you are using the same browser as on your PC, on a phone you have limited functionality.
However, you can manually move the downloaded files on your SD card (it sounds stupid, but I can't actually think of anything else).

Thanks for taking the time to answer . The issue is that the file i'm downloading are too big for my internal SD . that why i need to have them downloaded directly to my ext sd.
I can't believe there is no way to do this...but thanks for the effort !

If possible for you to download Samsung Internet it's easy!
Start internet>settings>advanced> and save content to sd card ... or use the usb-c to usb adapter that came with the phone and use external HDD.
Seems not possible in chrome now.

maybe a stupid question, but why dont you install any kind of download manager from the play store? This way, every time you download something you get asked where you want to save the file. And this would work in any browser

And I have yet another stupid question. Why don't you download that file from your PC and then copy it on your SD card, which you can later insert it in your phone. Or use G drive (or Dropbox) app to download it and access it on your phone.

Or you use a browser with an integrated download manager like dolphin. I think opera is also asking where to save downloaded files.

Because i m using 4 g networks to download , and i have no pc with me when i m on journey ( i use 4 g network when i am in big cities to download huge files when i got good networks , usually virtual machine for my work , then i use them at home on my pc to work, so i do the exact inverted process cause of poor adsl connection compare to 4G).
Bu tthanks to all got now lots of solutions :
Use opera mini
Use samsung internet
Use a download manager.
Thanks XDA !
It's not possible to control the download location of chrome on android as far as I know, but you could try using an app like Advanced Download Manager. It has it's own browser that allows full control over downloads and uses the SD card as the default download location.
Hi all,
First of all - forgive me if the subject has been up before - I did a bit of searching, but could't really find much about the subject.
I'm generally very pleased with the Mi A1 (my 4th "main" android phone after HTC Desire, SGS3 & OPO) but one thing that is giving me a bit of grief is this thing with access to my sd card, more precisely with copying content to the card by using different apps like root explorer, dropbox, dropsync pro etc.
Two very common actions in my usage are:
- Start an ftp-server on the phone and push new episodes of whatever tv-series I'm watching for the moment from computer to phone
- Open root explorer in my phone and copy stuff from my Dropbox folder to my phone (and back)
Neither of these actions can be done in my A1 (stock Oreo). The phone actually give the appearance of giving me the option to choose the sd-card but when trying to actually transfer something there it get's stuck before finishing or just return an error when trying.
So my question is - to get back to actually having rights to transfer stuff to my SD card without any problems, which of the below options would be the "easiest":
1. Does this work if I downgrade to Nougat?
2. Would rooting be enough if I stay on Oreo?
3. Can I transfer more freely with LOS 15.x?
4. Other options?
I actually found one thread mentioning this as a problem in stock Oreo so I know I'm not alone with the problem.
Thanks in advance,
/gosa
Hi,
Found this when searching Google for solutions this problem.
At the moment my only way of getting files onto the memory card is to download them to the internal storage and then using "Stock" file manager to copy them to the memory card... A bit to many steps if you ask me.
I was thinking that rooting might solve it but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Here one more with the same problem. I have the My A1 in ROM Stock Oreo 8 with root via magisk, and it is tedious and annoying not to be able to write to the external SD. I use ADM, apps for downloads Torrent, Solid Explorer.
Having Root I had the opportunity to try several possible solutions. Here some of them (note: none worked, nor resolved) I expose them in case someone else wants to try, possibly something will work for them.
Root ??????
SDFix: KitKat Writable MicroSD. (Developed by NextApp)
Magisk Modules??????
App Systemizer
ExSDCard Access Enabler
Xposed ??????
Marshmallow SD fix
KitKat SD Card Full Access (Caution: gives many errors in OS)
Handle External Storage
One way to take it with Solid Explore (it's more visual than the Stock Explorer):
* Solid Explorer, to paste or write to SD, always go to Root / mnt / media_RW / SD Card
As I mentioned. None of the above worked for me.
The only way to solve the problem momentarily is to download and use the apps all in the internal memory, with the stock file explorer moving the files to the external SD in a step later.
If someone can give light to this problem or a possible solution I will be very grateful.
*(sorry for my English)
Have you tried binding folder/creating softlink
Could you explain how it is done? Or inform about the subject.
Just got 8.1 and the problem is gone.
Only use my Note 3 to play audio and video files.
Recently noticed some video files missing on a 64GB exFAT mSD card.
1st thought they had been deleted by Note 3.
Just did a chkdsk scan and everything OK. Have a screen capture of this but do not know how to attach.
Additional Info: My Note 3 has stock Android 4.4.2 (KitCat) and never rooted.
Am Open to all suggestions how to correct this problem.
Hey I might can offer some assistance. BUT IM A FRESH NEWBIE TO THIS. I MEAN I JUST STARTED REALLY MESSING WITH MY PHONE 2 DAYS AGO. First what type of note 3 do you have? (ie. Sprint=SM-N900P) do you have service on your phone? Do you have any experience with custom ROMs?
SurageBook said:

I hope not as this is not the Sprint model forum .
OP i would copy data off then full format sd card as a starter .
Damaged files look in the Lost Files folders .

SurageBook "what type of note 3 do you have?" Verizon "have service on your phone?" No "Do you have any experience with custom ROMs?" No
JJEgan "...i would copy data off then full format sd card as a starter." Agree did copy the wanted data.
As previously mentioned have used Windows longer than Android so used chkdsk to examine & fix the mSD Card. Everything was OK and all the missing files were shown and Not damaged,
Since posting I backed up all the wanted data and then put the mSD card back in my Note 3. All the missing files were there and undamaged. Can anyone explain this?
From experience most Windows users reload the OS every few years.
Am wondering if I should Factory reset my Android 4.4.2 OS?
Any recommendations?
Man if you just use that phone for a media device just create a backup of your phone, SD card, and copy it to your PC then install custom ROMs until you find one you like and root that bad boy. My note 3 is my primary phone with service and I have about 10 custom ROMs on my SD card that I switch every couple of days. Earlier today I was on Havco OS 2.8 android 9 now I'm on some rom that when it turns on theres a pink unicorn and its on android 7. Its easier than you think. Things you need are 1. TWRP(for your phone model) 2. Odin(on PC to flash things to your phone*optional) 3. Custom ROM 4. magisk(to root your phone) 5. Gapps (for the android version that's on the custom rom*optional) 6. Enjoy
SurageBook Thanks for the tips!
Do you know if any good tutorials concerning how to root the Verizon version of Note 3?
I don't know about Verizon I'm on sprint but if you go to the Verizon section you'll find a guide for your firmware. https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-note-3/general
Please guys post in the forum for your phones .
Otherwise i see a reply on here not your models leading to a bricked phone .
