I want to try CM7 custom firmware.
I am using firmware 6.0_user_1021920, I want to backup my firmware to be used later.
Rooting and changing kernel may also void warranty.
Is there any way to backup my kindle fire original firmware without rooting and changing kernel.
No...
However, if you root and load TWRP... you can then save the image you are using and if you want, you can reload the 6.2 image which will be back like stock without root.
Get or make a factory cable and you can install twrp recovery and the firefirefire bootloader without rooting.

It will be a great help someone can compile a guide about how to install gapps on hd 6 or 7 running 5.2.X. there are lot of confusion about which xpose and gapps and in which order should flash to get them working. (specially who are already on 5.2.x without gapps)
Nudge
I changed the title and added a bunch more guides. Post if I got something wrong or left out something you think is helpful. thx.

Hi everyone,
I have the Kindle Fire HD 6 4th Gen currently on the developer preview Fire OS 5.0.1..... Is there any way to get this rooted????
I've tried Kingroot v4.90 but no luck....
Pardon the dumb question, but from reading the guides here, my conclusion is: there is no way to directly root 5.1.2.1 and install playstore / gapps. One must do either
1) regress to 4.5.3 / root / upgrade to 5.1.2.1 + gapps + xposed
or
2) sideload 5.1.2 factory image and flash that, root it, then install gapps and xposed (and update disabler) <<--- probably recommended
Did I understand that correctly?
I am familiar with bootloader / gapps / roms / Xposed and all that. I play with my Nexus 7 / Moto X stuff all the time. Fire HD is primarily an e-reader, but would be nice to have Playstore on it too.
Is there a way to root a Fire HD 7 4th gen 5.3.1.0?
Fire TV 2 owner can now install TWRP Custom Recovery easily with the following method
This was tested on a Fire Tv 2.
Here is the How to video, Enjoy

Note & Disclaimers:
- This method only works with Fire TV 2 if you try to install it with Fire TV 1 or Fire TV Stick it will brick your device.

Hi,
I followed the instructions on how to root the device via kingroot, su, flashfire CM for it etc.
Everything worked but flashfire and the custom rom which didn't do anything (black screen)
I gave up, however after few hours the device started to loop in "optimizing storage and application" mode () and hard-reset would not help.
I manage to unbrick it using "adb sideload" with latest fire os for hd 8 from Amazon.
Now when I am trying to repeat the process I cannot seem to root the device (KingRoot fails).
Any suggestion?
I really want to get rid of this terrible fireOs.
Thanks,
Hanan.
the fire utility is only for the 7in 2015 Fire
latest system versions 5.1.2.1 or 5.1.3 cannot be rooted, but can be downgraded to 5.1.2 which can be rooted see index

I already followed the instructions amazon provided on how to install an update manually, but it doesn't work. I also tried to do it through the website but there was no option. Help?
