All-In-One Tool got malware in it? - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm new here coming over from an HTC phone. Now have the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5. I wanted to use Sharpie603's All-In-One Tool, but Norton Anti-Virus keeps removing the .exe file after I extract it. Says it has malware. I wanted to post at Sharpie603's thread, but I haven't been around in this forum long enough to post in dev threads. So I'm putting this here. Hopefully, someone can pass this on to him. I hope it gets fixed soon. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Android to my knowledge doesnt use .exe files. I think Norton does a right job if the exe file came through an illegal download/download manager

Just turn off your protection when downloading/extracting the file because it does not have malware. Norton is just being overly cautious as is the case too many times.

The toolkit is a program that runs in the Windows environment to automate a lot of tasks for a new-ish user. It does not run on Android itself. And the file isn't illegal or anything like that.

It is the Towelroot application that trips the antimalware due to the fact that it is an exploit. It is safe to run.

It's a Trojan more like. Does what it is designed to do, and no more. Once rooted, remove TowelRoot.apk

The toolkit has a number of phone hacking programs (towel root, SuperSU, and busy box) that yes, some anti virus applications flag a malicious. I can assure you there is no malware in this tool. Also, the way I converted the. Bat file to a. Exe can sometimes be flagged as well because its not a signed executable application by Microsoft. You got nothing to be worried about my friend. Got Toolkit working with Norton Antivirus turned off.
For a more permanent fix:
Opened Norton 360 Antivirus section and went to settings then "scans and risks" tab. Configured "Exclusions/Low Risks" section to ignore the Toolkit (extracted) folder in both "Items to Exclude from Scans" and "Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect, SONAR and Download Intelligence Detection"
Now Norton does not auto delete the toolkit.exe file.

[Q] HSPL file AVG Virus Report

Hello
Self confessed Noob here.
Have been looking at flashing my 512MB HTC HD2 Leo Win Mobile 6.5 phone to Android Jelly Bean (probably PACman). Have read many of the threads and viewed YouTube videos and it seems clear enough, once I have backed up the phone data.
However, one issue I would like clarification on please.
I believe I need to start with HSPL2.08 for the Boot Loader (from the HSPL4 file), but my AVG Virus checker doesn't like this file and deletes it/'cleans up' the alleged infection. AVG reports a Win32 type virus. Have downloaded the file from XDA and elsewhere, but it always seems to report a virus.
Is this a false report or do I have to just use it and clean the PC after using the file?
Many thanks for any assistance

if the file you downloaded wasn'treported by someone else, then you can say screw AVG and continue what you're doing
I had the same sort of thing with Norton and an RUU recently, I sent a link to the file to Norton and within a day or so they sent me an email back saying the file was clean and that they would update their database. I don't think antiviruses are keen on .exe files, and err on the side of caution. If you are the cautious type too, you could do the same as above

The fact that this is an executable application is making me think it's fake most root creators like @DooMLoRD use a batch file for rooting this executable is perfect for hiding malicious apk's
I rooted my device via this option, but my phone decided to randomly reboot every now and then, so had to go back to stock and root via doomlords method, No problems for me now
But yea this thread/links need to be removed as its not 100% safe to use this method

[MOD] Ad blocker

Hi guys,
I tried to implement good old method to block unwanted ads by adding advertising sites to the HOSTS file, on the Sammy ATIV Odyssey (full FS unlock) and it works perfectly But I'm still unsure ('cause I'm developer and do have some ad-based apps in store) - should I post this info? BTW, we do have mods, lets give 'em the rights to decide, delete this thread or not...
So, this method is pretty simple (he-he, same as my very-very first WP7 hack):
1) You muist have an interop-unlocked handset with full FS access
1) Download the latest "blocking" hosts file, for example, from here
2) Rename your download from hosts.txt to HOSTS
3) Connect your handset to PC, navigate to \Windows\system32\drivers\etc folder
4) Paste downloaded HOSTS file, choose "replace" in the copiyng dialog.
5) That's all folks!
You don't need to reboot (like on Android phone with AdAway app) - now your handset is ads-free...
If you wanna revert back, just delete \Windows\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS file.
Nice! I will try it! ?

@sensboston:
Am I right in assuming that there's no way to interop-unlock a WP8.1 phone like the Lumia 930? At least I couldn't find one...
After some years I did the 2nd attempt to adopt to WP. The first one lasted for a day or so. Now, after some days of using the Lumia 930, I really really love it. Not only the device, but also WP8.1. But the fact that there is no way to block ads in browsers is really really annoying. I have no problems with ads in apps, because if I like an app, I purchase it anyway. But I can't "buy away" ads in browsers, and lots of sites get more or less unusable in mobile view and without ads being blocked.
Unfortunately there's not even an alternative browser for WP that would have the capability to block ads...
Worked on Lumia
I did this on my Lumia 1520 without Interop unlock
Works fine, thanks
I did this AGES ago on my 8X. Didn't think it was post-worth lol.

How exactly did you do that? My assumption was that you need interop-unlock in order to access the file system, including the hosts file. If you are not interop-unlocked, I would assume you have some other kind of unlock. Developer-unlock?

You know, right after my first "hack" for WP7 (also it was my first post here ), a lot of websites and forums are announced this hack without reference to me or xda. But (he-he ) , just AFTER my post...
This hack (from the user experience) is one of the most useful hacks for WP. But as a developer with ads-based apps, I was in a quandary - should I post it here or not...

Is there a way you can walk me through the process to use your app
Oh, I've got your "Root Tool" - still no luck for handsets without SD-card
P.S. He-he, I believe, I'll get WP10 Lumia-940 before someone will release hack for the Lumias without sd-card...
@djamol: I'm curious, how'd you manage to replace the HOSTS file on a non-Samsung phone? Root Tool doesn't allow moving files out of Windows directory, or copying or moving files in, unless you're using the Samsung CRPComponent.
Similarly, while you can get read access to the Windows directory via MTP when using Root Tool, you can't get full FS access; most of the file system (like the Windows dir) will be read-only or even totally unavailable.
I edited the HOSTS file on my Samsung - in fact, I wrote an app to do it, because I had to do it for work sometimes - but that was using CRPComponent or Full FS Access via MTP, neither of which are currently possible on a Lumia using any public hack I know of...

So what i told you before a many times. I've mentioned you a lots of time in my posts.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3014867
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58925177&postcount=7
On Lumia device there is a lots of some pretty well arbitrary resources that can allow us to access the "SYSTEM" resources.
I think we had a big miss-understanding about the RPCComponent. because of RPCComponent uses "DeviceIOControl" for registry access and not the RPC functionality. (forgive me if i wrong in my knowledge. I'm a student and new to WP/.Net Platform)
On Lumia Device there is .winmd component known as "Nokia.SilentInstaller.Runtime.winmd" uses "DeviceIOControl" API.
For the "FileSystem" API it works fine without any restrictions which is implemented in "Nokia.SilentInstaller.Runtime.winmd"
But registry access could not getting a well token privileges. we need to find some unlocking trick for registry access (like NonProductionErrors.txt) for that .winmd component to handle the "CreateFileW" function for "DeviceIOControl" API.
About the "Root Tool" App.
There is no update for "Root Tool" app. It is still on the FIRST Release.
Currently I'm working for the "Root Tool Beta" update and I've implemented such resources in my "BETA" build.
I can't do a fast development because of my less/poor Programming knowledge and due to my college busy scheduled.
Thanks.
Can someone make a tutorial how to make it work on lumia 735 please ? i'm new on WP and doesn't understand everything for now
@djamol: My apologies, I somehow missed that you'd managed to get file access working. That's great!
Looking at the APIs that NdtkClient.dll imports, I'm pretty sure it's using RPC, not DeviceIoControl (IOCTL). That's not really important, though; both require INTEROPSERVICES. It's just easier to write our own code using IOCTLs than using RPC, but since we already have a client library, hopefully that won't be needed...
@GoodDayToDie, @djamol: guys, could you please be a little bit more specific? Do you have a .winmd for this dll or function prototypes (not just exports)? NdtkClient.dll library is already on \Windows\system32? Or it should be ingested to the app package? (in this case, the app will be banned on automatic certification process).
As for the "Root Tool" (published in store), it's not using NdtkClient.dll (as far as I know). The file access via FileSystem.winmd/FileSystem.dll to system areas is read-only...
Could you share your finds to general public here or (at least) in private mail? Thanks!
@GoodDayToDie
Yes, Both requires ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES.
Can you send me FileSystem's code which is you developed base on the RPCComponent ?
I'll try to port it for lumia using NtdkSvc as possible.
I hope you can port it also for lumia in minutes but I'll try though.
@sensboston
There is no .winmd file for "NtdkClient.dll". You will find that .dll in extras+info app.
and "NtdkSvc.dll" in this path "C:\Windows\System32\NdtkSvc.dll".
There is a very simple trick to bypass the Store Submission process including with kernel libs.

Even those cap's cant write here until using any System Resources.
"C:\Data\Users\PUBLIC"
But can write here.
"C:\Data\SharedData\OEM\Public"
"C:\PROGRAMS\CommonFiles\OEM\Public"
FileMoveEdit alpha-ish thing
Here you go. It's not been updated in ages, aside from some really minor tweaks I made just now. It's a WP8.0 app; it'll run on a sufficiently-unlocked 8.1 phone, but uses no 8.1 APIs. It also has some known bugs that I really ought to fix, though I'm working on other stuff at the moment.
You can probably get at least some of its tricks working on Lumias, though you may need to drop the symlink functionality as that both requires full capability-unlock and requires editing the NTFS configuration settings in the registry (the same key that, on desktop Windows, is edited by the "fsutil" program).
@GoodDayToDie
Sad thing happened for me. My device screen got broken
So I'm opening a new thread for "Root Tool" app public development.
It would be great for everyone.
Can anyone suggest me for which is best method for public development or any github/codeplex useful ?

Yeah I nearly made that mistake too. As it was installing, I got a bad feeling and stopped the installation process halfway. Seems okay, but yeah - it's a zip file with no installation necessary. So if you find yourself installing stuff, then you clicked wrong.

Yeah I did that too, but when I extracted the zip it was just an exe called "LG G4 Root", and did not contain the send_command and adb files the OP talked about, plus BitDefender threw warnings at me.

DITTO
AVAST went nuts and killed most of them and a registry watchdog caught one trying to write an auto start on boot. I hate download sites.
I can tell you that as soon as DEV Host sold themselves out with that CRAP download button ****t, I made sure i never visit their site again! That's the worst thing a company can do to make a few bucks and I loath any company that does not care about their traffic like DEV host has done. Plenty other legit sites to get that root tool and/or just use decent Antivirus/anti-malware tools and that download button won't even show up, nor will it allow ANY type of installs or changes to your registry.
On those download websites, I always look at the link first to see where it's going to take me before I click on it. If you look, the "Download Now" button takes you to a URL with the correct file in it.
I tried downloading it a few times and kept getting the .exe file, so I decided to download it in a VM and take a snapshot before running it.
I ended up not actually getting the .zip file from the executable even when it went through the motions, then I noticed someone saying to use the "download now" button instead.

Go Offline. Use another PC to download ComboFix to a USB drive. Boot affected PC into safe mode (offline), run Combo Fix. Boot into normal mode, and rerun ComboFix.
Install SpyBot and do its immunity. It adds like 800,000 known bad sites to a HOSTS files redirect (blocks).

Common sense, you have it.
Seems others in this thread simply don't. The file that had to be downloaded was a 4+GB file that was compressed (tar.gz), not an exe. I really don't understand the confusion here.

Usually i am pretty Good at avoiding malware. May have seemed like common sense but it got me. I think i made the assumption that the file was necessary for something because of how it was named.
Sent from my VS986 using XDA Free mobile app
What got me was that the instructions said to use the send_command file from the LG root zip, when I extracted it and only saw a single exe I knew something was wrong.
Got me too. I terminated the process when it occurred to me that nowhere in the root instructions did it say to run anything hopefully there's not something lurking that got plopped in there before I quit it.
Mine didn't even unzip. I didn't have any issues downloading and my PC didn't yell at me but when I tried to unzip the file 7Zip kept telling me the file wasn't a valid archive. I ended up getting the send_commands elsewhere.
Also, to the guy who listed ComboFix above....you sir know what you're doing . I came across ComboFix years ago I was working as a desktop support tech and that's my first GoTo app for virus/malware cleanup. If it doesn't find it, nothing will.

6055U Root method found

Hello all, I found a method to Root and get a custom recovery on our cricket variant, no donations required! You need to find a copy of sugar qct with a username and password, I don't remember exactly where I found it but it shouldn't be too difficult to find. Then you need to let it update to the latest build, which includes the programmer for our phone. If you don't see 6055u in the list it's not up to date. From there, Hook up your phone (may need to manually put it in download mode. Press upgrade and then navigate to the install directory, look in /bin and find where it downloads all the mbm files. Replace the one that starts with an r with the TWRP recovery for 6055. You may have to overwrite it multiple times during the process. If you did it correctly you will be able to boot into TWRP, if not try again. If you don't close sugar I believe it won't overwrite the firmware files, but I haven't messed with it much. I will try to write a tool to make it easier when I have the time but I'm pretty busy. Feel free to pm me with any questions and I will help the best I can.

OK... apparently I'm an idiot... Running Windows 10 Pro, and the installer says it's going to install to an appropriate folder on C:\... yet, trying to find it, it really is weird.... I'm going to try on a VMWare Win 7 virtual PC, and see if I'm able to find it there, and move it to my actual C: drive...
If it works, I'll be grateful for your contribution and praise you to the highest heaven!

Can't seem to get the beast to work...
If you would be so kind, would there be any way you'd be able to write up a concise step-by-step thing, if you've made it work... I've got the .chm file open on my desktop, and have spent a few hours trying to make it work to no avail.
Again, if it worked for you, your process would be welcome.

My point is that the site recommended seems to insist on Lollipop on the small beast... and there doesn't seem to be a recommendation for the .bin files, and, when installing on Win 10, it seems to install the Sugar app into some directory on my C: drive that is really not that accessible... Did it using a VMWare Win 7 32-bit virtual, and was able to access the directory, copy and paste to my regular C: drive (old Windows geek since Win 3.11... and DOS 3), and it seemed to run... (of course, running as Administrator), but it really doesn't seem to work for me... Again, I freely admit that I'm likely not doing something right, but even after some research and the included .chm file, I seem to be missing something.
Again, and begging your indulgence for seeming like a noob or a rube, but if I'm not making it happen, I rather think that the tips would be lost on someone for whom this is their first Android device...
Kinda frustrating, as, even though I've been a tech-support guy and database developer for more than 30 years, this thing has me stymied...
I found it fascinating for the *#*# command, earlier, from another noble soul, and, obviously, I also found that the device as configured says, basically... "Don't give a damn... you can turn this sucker on, but as soon as you exit this menu, I'm gonna turn it off again."
Just a little frustrating, and it seems that most of the tips and tricks elsewhere seem to be thinking that new owners of the 6055U are running Lollipop.... aaarrrgggghhh....
If it needs Lollipop to work, and if there's a relatively painless way to downgrade, and then upgrade from a ROM, I'm good with that... the Idol 3 seemed to require that, and it worked well for me, with just an evening's work. This one? Cricket seems to have had a warped sense of humor about it... I seriously dig the device, and, since my Idol 3 broke, and my lovely wife's LG G-Stylo (which was a pain in the ass, and next-to-impossible to root, and then be just perpetually stuck at the logo screen with an unfixable boot loop, if one screwed it up, and just required sending the beast back to LG, as long as one took out Cricket's warranty plan... <sigh>), we took the plunge on this one...
Not much for which I require root, but, since I spent good money on some legit apps (and lucked into a few ... ahem... not legit apps that worked for me), these things require root... I know there's a way to do it, and the Sugar app seems promising, but, mildly autistic guy that I am (and 60 years old, with a memory that doesn't work as it used to), a slimmed-down step-by-step doc would be helpful... should some noble soul put such together...
Apparently, the root method has worked for at least one member here.... But this weird old Jewish hippie doesn't see the mental diagram....
Any help would be welcome, my friends and mishpocheh... ("dear family" --- been here enough years, albeit a relatively quiet member, that y'all might as well be family... )
Hey everyone, sorry about the confusion. I installed on Windows 10 pro with no issues. As far as the page I linked you can disregard everything but the app itself. The update that downloads is marshmallow, and I've had no issues overwriting the latest version. I may have gotten sugar from a different location though, as soon as I get a chance I will do a better write up with everything. A helpful way to find the install directory would be right click on the shortcut from the start menu and click find Target / open file location. If it brings you to the folder with the shortcuts do it again and you will have the install directory. The app should be in (install dir)/tool and the downloaded updates go in (install dir)/bin under a folder that only shows up once you start the process within sugar. I will try to compile the information into a more user friendly format tonight but I can't make any promises on that.
Also just to clarify, I didn't use any chm file
I'm wondering if you could upload your version you have on your pc. I just spent the last month in jail here in Orlando fighting a case and the only proof I've got is on my phone on a phone that I deleted my videos on. I really need the videos back too get a not guilty if I gotta pay for it it's cool but I'm out on bond and all the recover videos apps require root
I got this to work last night. Typed up some instructions but didn't get them posted. They're on my PC at home and I'm at work.
Basically use the copy of sugar in the download package in this thread and then start it and let it update https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/recovery-vodafone-prime-tab-7-t3548560
Those are the basic instructions too except we don't need to swap out bout and use the TWRP from deckersu thread.
Once flashed it'll automatically reboot. I found you had to make sure you caught this and booted into TWRP right away don't let the phone boot. Then transfer SuperSU in TWRP and flash.

FYI this root method wipes your phone so I don't know if this will help your situation or not.
In sugar there is an option to not wipe, it's under session settings or something to that effect

Wish I had noticed that!! Oh well, stoked to have root and it's good to start fresh. Got Xposed installed today and finally got that annoying charging light turned off. Working on getting wifi tetherng working. Then if I can figure out how to get the dialer to be friends with Google voice this phone will have all its annoyance fixed
Thanks so much for figuring this out and sharing!!

Thank you for finding this thread, it is the same one I found but I couldn't remember where it was the other day when I started this thread. Hopefully this will help the people who have been having issues, although I will admit a more painless method would be preferable. I'm currently working on modifying a dirtycow exploit to simply flash the recovery and reboot into twrp, if I get it to work I will zip it all up and post it here.

I got wifi tethering working I did a lot of things but I believe that did it was adding net.tethering.noprovisioning=true to my build.prop then I went into system/app and changed serviceentitlement.apk into serviceentitlement.oat using es file Explorer

Thanks for figuring this out!!! I'd been messing with it for a few days. The renaming the apk to .oat was the piece I was missing. That and a reboot got it working!!

To get root just install supersu
