Has it surfaced any solutions for the USB audio problem that came with the S5?
In S4 I had no problem using docking cables like "cable jive" by just selecting USB as audio output, but with the S5 that suddenly got more difficult.
As we are getting some custom roms and rooting... Is it any roms out there or apps that can enable the USB audio for docking?

You're asking questions about specific USB audio features.. but not explaining what they do or what you are referring to.
USB audio works fine for me. The S5 supports a range of DACs, much the same as previous S4, S3, etc models did. A forum search would show a number of existing threads about USB audio and a lot of useful information there.
If you have remaining questions, you should elaborate in a lot more detail what you are trying to do. In particular, explain what proprietary products do, insread of just mentioning their names.

Does anyone know of a kernel allowing users to "hot plug" a USB DAC to get audio out?
Poitee and Trinity seems to support at least USB audio after a reboot, but so far I have had no luck identifying something that will simply allow me to place my Nexus 7 in my dock (with OTG USB DAC connected) and have the audio automatically routed through the external USB DAC.
Therefore, does anyone know of a rom/kernel allowing this (since my Samsung Galaxy S3 can do this)?

I'll second this. I am installing my Nexus 7 semi-permanent in my Car, and i'd like to take it out and use internal sound without rebooting it every single time.

Yeah, I was keen on making a car install too, but this is for a dock I am building.
I can tell you it involves B&O design and pure awesomeness, guess I cannot post images or give links until I reach 10 posts though.
Hotplug USB audio is indeed possible on the Nexus 7, it seems that a few of us all have similar plans for our Nexus's

My Fiio E07k does't work (USB) with i9505.
I'm using the ATT i337 (nearly identical with the i9505) and it doesn't work with my Fiio E07k either.
My S3 works great with my E07K, so I'm a bit disappointed the S4 doesn't.
I've even tried a couple different roms without success.
If I connect my E07K to my S4 and try to play a music file, it fast forwards through the song/play timer in a couple seconds with no audio output.
Have you guys tried the USB Audio Recorder Pro app? Many DACs that don't work by default work via that app. Nowhere near as ideal as the native USB audio, since that app isn't designed to be a player, but if you got to have it that might be the only way.

Most of the posts I've read about USB Audio Recorder Pro mention that it only supports FLAC and possibly WAV files. I guess I could convert my ALAC files to FLAC though. Just hoping it's a kernel or driver issue that will eventually get sorted out.

No, I have not found a solution, but I'm hoping a custom kernel will eventually sort it out. It's obvious by the way songs FFWD when the E07K is plugged in that the phone "sees" the device, I would guess it just doesn't have the right kernel / usb drivers or configuration to use it properly.
I was also disappointed to find out my E07K doesn't work with the S4. Just got rid of my Note II as well. Any way we can move this forward? Using my headphones on the train just isn't the same!
Hi, I just want to ask if there are any plans on usb audio out, so we can use external DAC's
I know external DAC's work in cyanogenmod kitkat but not in many other kitkat roms.

Does anyone know how I would be able to play music in my car through usb? I am currently using tune link which uses Bluetooth and 3.5 jack. The issue I have, is that I have to change the song using my phone rather than the control buttons on my steering wheel. Sounds dumb, but I hate having to pick up my phone and navigate to screen to change the song.

Try using an OTG, it enables the phone to be used as a typical computer usb port.

Have 100% the same problem. Did anybody find the solution? My old Xperia Acr connected like a common flash card and worked fine. Now I have to use AUX and this is not so comfortable =/
Why do you use a cable AND Bluetooth ? Does you car have AD2P ? If it has you should be able to play music through your phones BT and have the steerring controls . I have a Kenwood head unit DNX 9140 and when i pair my phone to it, i can play music and still keep steering controls over BT

Not true. There is a lot of misinformation promulgated on the subject. Music out on USB works fine on my S5 just as it did on the S4, S3, S2 and S1..
But that isn't to say that Samsung, Google or (especially) the automotive audio equipment cartel make much effort towards standardized interoperability. It's frankly a mess, a hodge podge of half ass implementations and proprietary protocols that usually don't play nicely together. It can be made to work with carefully chosen components or creative approaches. But randomly connecting components from two different vendors typically fails.
While Samsung and Google could be characterized as only having made a minimal effort to provide standardized USB support.. that is still leagues ahead of what most automotive audio vendors have done. Not to mention that it's routine to find inaccurate details, if not outright lies of what automotive component X will supposedly interconnect with. I sometimes wonder if their marketing departments even bother to collate real facts on the subject before they write their copy.
It's not too hard to find decent DACs and headphone amps that will accept USB audio out from the S5, but I frankly gave up trying to figure out what would or wouldn't work on the automotive end. I ended up going with a brute force approach and installed a SBC (miniature PC) in my car. Having a full PC as a middleman, means that there is a vast array of powerful software (and hardware) that can slice, dice and format the control stream to whatever is needed by the auto head unit. But it's hardly a simple or off the shelf solution.
The OP can probably find a working solution if he searches hard enough. The S5 has USB audio out, although making it work with some car decks requires a combination of root, custom kernels (proper USB host support) and audio apps. An app like USB Audio Player, in conjunction with a kernel that has proper USB host support will satisfy many auto decks.
Hopefully Android L will give us better USB support. But it also depends on how sane your automotive equipment vendor was when they designed your car deck too.

The problem is that since 4.1.2,USB Mass Storage was removed.
Most, if not all, radios, media players, etc don't support the MTP protocol. They require a mass storage device, and do not support a media device.

MTP is a newer and much more capable protocol. The problem in your example is that radio, etc vendors are stuck in the past and not adopting newer standards.
MSC (mass storage) has many serious drawbacks that are overcome by the newer transactional protocol. MTP was standardized six years ago, which is just short of forever in consumer electronics. So one has to wonder why the radio vendors continue to drag their heels and can't get with the program.
It's like blaming Android for having moved to flash memory.. and refusing to go along. Expecting everyone to continue using cassette tapes instead. Yes that would be one way to maintain compatibity. But it doesn't make a lot of objective sense.

Guys, but what about using USB analog audio input? I remember I did something like that with Galaxy S II - from 5 mini USB pins one was used to sense what phone is connecting to - for ex if it is a car dock, desk dock or... should it enable analog audio output on USB data pins.
Unfortunately I no longer have dock I made back then, anyone knows if that might work with S5?

EDIT2: Oh it seems I completely missed the point, you want to use it as mass storage to connect to car USB port.
Had Iphone 6 USB on my 2011 Buick Regal USB Audio worked flawless, my wife's phone LG G4 works great.
Got tired of apple & decided to go with Samsung Note 4 now I cant get it to work, tried multiple cables, update to Lollipop 5.0 & 5.1 & none of these worked.
Called Buick they said I should use AUX cable instead, obviously I did not like that response.
DoI need to root? or is this a lost cause.

I would post a link to a website with pictures and information about what you are talking about as I have no idea what that is.
Once I understand what exactly it is I might be able help.
Just guessing but are you talking about some kind of headphone cable that uses USB to connect instead of jack?

Link attached is the USB port in car, you plug in any IOS device or LG apparently & it picks up the audio being played.
The Bluetooth feature doesn't support audio, was relying on the USB port to play music in car over Google Play.
Before getting android I tried a Samsung S4 Active & it would appear it registered it but would immediately disconnect on both sides.
I figured it was hardware side as my wifes LG G4 worked perfect decided to switch my iPhone for a Note 4 & when I plug it in the USB nothing happens.

Have you checked if the company you got the USB from makes any kind of app or driver to use on some android phones?
I can assure you Bluetooth audio works very well as I use it often with my Bluetooth speakers. I also used it to stream music to my Sony car stereo via Bluetooth.
I have never used the USB to stream music but I know that there is an app that does some thing to make phone simulate a USB stick so if you where to connect the phone via USB to a stereo deck it would play the music on the deck from the phone.
Sadly I cannot remember what it was called.

I've heard of this app but it required root, I'd be willing to root the phone but the amount of Firmware & versions seems like asking for trouble.

OK so that buick thing is not the USB cable so I assume it's some kind of speaker system.
Regarding the root. Custom roms are much better then bloated stock roms in my opinion so it's well worth it and specially now that Note 5 ports are out.
Plus even if you wish to keep stock rom just rooting it will give you full ownership over your phone but nonrooted users can't really say the own there phones as both Samsung and phone company have more control over your phone then you ?
Anyways I strongly suggest you at least root the phone. No need to change firmware if you don't want to but the rooting process alone will give you unlimited freedom with the phone beyond the possibility of icrap can offer with jailbreak.

Do you stream through USB or using MTP & treat your Phone as a USB Storage?

There's a possibility that your Note 4 microSD card was formatted using exFAT & the "old" Buick USB system can't recognize it.
Try to use FAT32 (with its inferiority towards exFAT).
Another solution is using AUX (Draining Note 4 battery)
Last resort is using USB flash drive
NOTE:
Some system can only recognize limited size of USB storage.
Some are limited only to 4 GB, some can only read 32GB & won't read anything with larger capacity.

Sorry for asking this, but do you know what streaming means? (no offense )
If you are streaming the music, it means you are playing the music from your Mobile Phone & direct the sound out of it through either USB, Bluetooth or AUX.
So Streaming will drain your Phone battery.
Usually, car USB system doesn't do this.
Car USB system usually access any device connected through USB as a USB Mass Storage Device & then play the content using its own built in Audio System.

My car USB does have this feature can play audio of a youtube vid, google play radio, pandora, ect over USB on selected devices it seems.
As stated above it works fine with an LG & IOS phones but has yet to work on Samsung.
Thought there could be a quick fix out there, but that doesnt seem to be the case.
More likely going to swap my phone out for an LG if I can find someone willing.
Worst case scenario I have a iphone 4 which I will use via hotspot in the car.

Do you mean that you play your media on your Car System?
If you do, then check your microSD.
May be your LG use FAT32 for its microSD & Note 4 use exFAT for its microSD.
Some 2011 car systems can't recognize exFAT filesystem.

Thanks for suggestion but it did not work, for the meantime using an Iphone 4 via hotspot for my normal commute I just use FM radio.
Was thinking maybe I can have hotspot automatically turn on when I'm in my car but that might be too much to ask for with current technology.
You win some, you lose some this one I lost no one interested in changing Note 4 for LG G4 in my area.
