Am I the only one who has noticed that battery life on NAE absolutely sucks? I now get about half the battery life I used to. I used it stock unrooted, stock rooted and a couple of other roms. Anyone have a link to some MK2 ROMs. I have the MK2 firmware downloaded. Can I even go backwards at this point? I get tons of reboots and other issues. I'm wondering in the handset is just a defective. But it was never htis bad before NAE. ANy help is greatly appreciated.

I'm picking up a GS4 tonight for my wife and the store confirmed their phones are loaded with MF9. I'd like to root the phone using the rooted MDL files I have from my GS4. How would I go about doing this backwards update from MF9 to MDL? I'm a root newbie, so sorry if this is dumb question.
Don't go back. Just use Chainfire's CFAutoroot in the development section. Very easy.

From what I heard when MF9 came out there were a lot of battery issues and poor reception, while my MDL has been fine. Is there any risk of damage by going back to MDL?
Nothing wrong with mf9 as far my two s4s are concerned. I haven't seen anything really about battery life being bad and I'm here all the time. Root and enjoy
Good deal and thanks for the info. I rooted MF9 and had no issues.
I feel like I am either about to really break my phone or fix it with this next flash, some guidance would be amazing!
Started off months ago with Sprint L720 MF9 out of the box and rooted it. Eventually I got around to loading Sacs 4.3 back in January and had no troubles. After getting the OTA update notifications again, I decided it was time to flash a 4.4 ROM and I followed this thread.
Got the NAE modem loaded, flashed philz 6.08.9, and loaded the stock MK2 ROM listed in the instructions. The phone booted and I went through the initial setup without any issues. Baseband and software both say NAE, but then I noticed I have no sound at all. The phone powers off automatically after a while as well. Loading anything from the Play store takes forever, however, the stock web browser runs just fine.
Should I be concerned about no audio or will this be resolved with going to the 4.4 ROM listed in the guide (no data wipe)? I kind of want to flash a rooted stock MF9 ROM and start over...
Any help would be appreciated.
Edit: Flashed to 4.4.2 and SSDD. I finally got sound back though by flashing the MK2 modem, just need wifi working now.

Usually your sound issue can be resolved by flashing another ROM.
As far as WiFi goes I just had this problem myself. If your bootloaders NAE and your modem is MK2 , try flashing the NAE modem back. That's what fixed it for me.
I'll not up to speed on all the quirks of the sprint s4 since I'm usually using a Verizon s4 . but it seems to me that if you have a NAE bootloader, it isn't cooperating with downgrading the modem either. Never was a problem for me when my phone was on MK2 build , but with each OTA the security gets upgraded too. Almost doesn't make sense to me though as Sprints bootloaders are unlocked.
Maybe someone else can shed some light on this.
Try NAE modem and see what happens,... bet your WiFi will be back like mine was.

Negative. Only touchwiz based roms will work with 4.3 MK2.
Your best bet is using an AOSP themed ROM such as blackbox or purified. You can find some more info here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616221
Or, more simply, install a new launcher such as apex or nova and then you won't have to worry about touchwiz
That's extremely disappointing. I'm really starting to hate this phone and I think I'm going to call att tomorrow and see if I can get something else. Perhaps an htc one or lg g2. But this isn't going to work out. This is not the level of customization I want. Touch wiz goes deeper than just the launcher, and what happens in another year or two when att stops providing updates? No, I'm done and I don't want this thing anymore. Bad ATT and bad Samsung.

I'm no expert, but anything other than MDB and MDL means a locked bootloader. AFAIK that means, all safestrap does is let you load a different rom, but that rom has to be based on the touchwiz kernel. That means no AOSP and that means no CM11. I'm in the same boat.
Hello,
Sorry to revive this after several months of inactivity, but I have exactly the same problem and am confused by the information I have found on XDA, possibly a fault of my own. I have a Galaxy S4 AT&T i337 with MK2 4.3, and I want to run CM11.
A much much more tech savvy friend of mine setup my phone in January 2013 with CM11 using the TWRP recovery. It originally was just the AT&T stock everything. Unfortunately, I no longer have contact with him, and I have no idea how he did any of this . I was specifically running the build from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2383143, which is now here: http://www.handy-faq.de/forum/galax...h_app2sd_glove_mode_dual_boot_for_all_s4.html
Since then it updated automatically to the last nightlies without any issues. Two days ago, however, I updated, and my phone went into a boot loop. I booted into recovery and tried to flash the last version that worked, but that resulted in my phone staying in a boot loop without being able to boot into recovery. I then used Odin to flash the original firmware and stock ROM, and now it works fine, but I miss CM11 very badly (or more accurately I find the stock ROM annoying in comparison).
The previous posts here indicate that CM11 cannot be installed on the i337 MK2. Also, this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42320414&postcount=2 lead me to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428254 which says "Also, at this time, only TW based ROMs will work with SS. CM, AOSP, AOKP, MIUI, etc will not work." But I do not actually understand the difference between Safestrap and TWRP enough to know whether or not Safestrap not allowing CM11 means this model won't allow CM11 at all.
I would like to understand why there is indication that CM11 cannot be put on the i337 MK2 when my friend somehow succeeded. Then perhaps we can succeed in devising a method to install CM11 on this model. I apologize for not having any proof that it worked, but I swear I ran CM11 on this exact model and firmware build for many months very happily.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this discrepancy? Sorry if this is a naive/stupid post. Thanks in advance to anyone who chimes in.
I'm kinda trying to figure out what the difference is between the N2 and N4. I am already rooted and wanting to put Alliance rom on it, but I need recovery for that and I can't do the recovery before I figure out what I have. If someone could help me I'd greatly appreciate it. Also I read your supposed to put it into the stock slot and I always remember from my Droid Razr days how stock slot was off limits. Is it bad or dangerous to put it in the stock slot if so?

The difference is the radio signal strength, and it depends on your area. I went thru all 3 ( MJE, NC2 & NC4) and found that MJE was best suited for me. If you came from MJE and didn't take the OTA, then you can check which of the 3 is better for you. If you came from OTA then you're stuck on NC4, sorry.
You can go to:
Settings > About phone > Baseband Version
That will tell you what you are running, ie NC2 or NC4
You then would simply follow the OP instructions to the ROM of your choosing.
SafeStrap is as close to recovery as it gets with the locked bootloader. I have run 2 different ROMS on my Stock Slot and have had no issues. The unfortunate thing about the ROM slots, it appears, that when you run off of them you run into battery draining and phone lags. It's a known issue, but has not been true for all. I found that I lost more battery life on ROM slots 1-3, and the 4th not as much so I use it to set up my ROM to my liking and make the back up to run off Stock Slot. So, yes, you are safe to run off of Stock Slot.
Hopefully that answers some of the questions, if not all, and you get up and running soon.
One last thing..... when you do get your ROM running, remember to allow 5-7 days for the ROM to "settle" for the outstanding battery life that all of these developers have incorporated into their ROMS.

No doubt I did lol, so I experience no battery drain if I stick it in the stock slot?

I am currently trying to install safestrap. I donwloaded the 3.72 apk and went to hit install recovery and it says it's installed, but it says state:not installed. Any ideas where I did something wrong?

If so, you're good to go
Ok folks Ive been away from the scene for quite some time. I currently have a stock rooted MDL and would like to get up to a 4.3 rooted stock ROM as easily as possible.
My requirements are quite simple: 4.3 and keep hotspot with no KNOX and minimal data loss. Other than that I don't think I need much more. There is so much to sift through that it is my hope that I can got one of the gurus to guide me in the right direction.
Anyone? Please?
