just got my OPO - ONE General

Coming from a Sony xperia z ultra which I honestly loved everything except the damn camera. I am beginning my research into the ROMs available for the OPO. Any suggestions? I know the question is a bit open-ended, but I just wanted to get feedback for some of the available ROMs is which is a good daily driver, any issues with builds such as camera functionality, added features of some of the ROMs and such
Thanks in advance!!

Search around and look for what you'd like to use. I use Mahdi ROM.

Look in the development section, read the OP of all the ROM threads, and choose a ROM that fits your needs.

Will do. I was mainly looking for any recommendations or ROMs that stand out in particular. I'll continue to read up as well.

I tend to flash the CM 11 nightlies and just manually add the 11s features, because the camera, for example, isn't as good on the nightlies.

I stuck with the CM11s rom. It seems like a really solid build.
I got the Chinese version OPO 64GB, which had Color OS on it. I didn't even look at it!
Before the phone even arrived, my PC was ready with adb installed, Scumpicule's 64GB flash utility installed, superSU ready, and the CM11s data... all waiting to go.
As soon as it arrived, it was unpacked, turned on, plugged in and flashed!

Hello,
As stated by other users on this thread, please search around for suitable roms. What would be the best rom for your device is purely subjective. We also don't want to create a "Who's rom is better?" atmosphere. So I'll close this thread and encourage you to check out the Development section and take a look at which roms best suits your needs.

Inactivity in ROM Development Section

Hello,
I had been using HTC HD2 until I bought a Nexus S. I can definitely say that the ROM Development section of SNS is very quiet. There are just a few roms.
I actually miss the activity in HD2 roms section, there were new roms every day. Most of them was themed CM / stock roms.
(there were also MIUI roms, Sense roms etc but nvm that)
I don't know how to theme everything so I prefer pre-themed roms.
What do you think about this. Don't we need pre-themed roms?
I'm just a bit bored with stock CM7 =) I need different tastes.
Edit:
Btw, I tried the themes in that topic, but I couldn't get the same results as in screenshots. I just don't know. So that's why I prefer pre-themed roms.
Quite frankly, there aren't anywhere near as many people who own the NS; with the AT&T version rumored to release soon, that could change... and if the Verizon/Sprint versions ever surface it would DEFINITELY change; but for the time being, so long as there are just a few of us out there with the device, you can expect developments to be rather slow.
I agree that when the ATT model comes out things might change. With that said I'm fairly happy with the level of support for the NS after only been released for 2 months. Also, I'm more interested in ROM and kernel developers (and super awesome voodoo developer) than theme developers.
Maybe you could find a theme in the N1 or other section you like and ask the developer to port that to the NS.
Have you tried the theme chooser app with CM7? Sonny's themes are very nice too. I'm sure someone can help you get them to work (if those were the themes to which you were referring).

The HTC HD2 launched in November of 2009 in Europe, December of 2009 in Hong Kong, and March of 2010 in the US. The Nexus S launched on December 16, 2010 in the US and December 22nd, 2010 in the UK. Those are the only two countries it is currently officially available in. That means that as of yesterday this phone had two months of availability in the US and come next Tuesday the same will be true of the UK. The difference in availability to userbase alone makes it pretty clear why there would be a difference. If you wanted a device that had a lot of available ROMs buying a brand new device that hasn't even launched globally was the wrong choice.
ROM Development != ROM Theming. ROM development is actually implementing code into the ROM rather than just making the ROM look nice.
And besides, the look of Gingerbread is pretty amazing.
My personal philosophy is that, if theres a lack of something.. you could always step up and make ROMs yourself. If you don't want to, then there isn't room for someone to be complaining about the lack of development.

There aren't enough devices out there yet. I may jump on when the ATT version comes out. I'm dying to play around with the nexus s kernel and editing that battery driver to try a few things.
2 months vs. Over a year.
Just sayin

OP...What you refer to as ROM development I call useless clutter. I'm extremely glad the Nexus S development subforum has not yet been invaded by a bunch of fools with winzip and a pirated copy of Photoshop. Let the developers develop. All that other crap belongs in Themes and Apps, for it sure isn't development by any stretch of the word.

AMEN!
Quantity != Quality.
The NS is still good enough for me as stock (kernel, rom) after two months. I'm not bored with it, and I don't miss anything (except a numbered battery meter) from a themed rom. I switched to Launcher Pro, but that's about it.
We've discussed this in multiple threads here already anyways. We've got koush, cyanogen, bionix, team whisky, morfic, supercurio all contributing. These are the superstars and I'd much rather have their support than dozens of others who slap a theme on some rom they "borrowed" from someone else and then call it their own.
that's exactly why Themes & Icons & stuff, should stay in the Theme & App section, and ROMs stays stock, then people can put whatever skin they want on top
not everyone likes the same thing

[POLL] What kind of ROMs do you all prefer?

This is a poll thread where you can freely state your facts and opinions on your favorite type of ROM (Sammy-based ROM, MIUI or CM)
This is also a thread for the people who want to know what kinds of ROMs are being used worldwide.
IF you want, you can even comment down below and say why you like them
I use MIUI myself, but I did come from a Sammy-based ROM and even tried CM for a few weeks.
Voice your opinions, and let us know why!
**Sammy-based ROM = stock as well
If you happen to want to try the ROM type which you are not using, click on the links below.

This thread is NOT a question, just a poll. I don't want to post a favorite ROM post because new ROMs get released by the day and its hard to keep up ^_^
I haven't tried MIUI yet, so I won't vote. But I've been playing with the stable version of Cyanogen Mod for a week now and like it. It's heads and shoulders better than the stock ROM.
CM-based ROMS are nice, but video hardware decoding support is spotty. I use my phone to play 1080p/720p videos quite often, which are often unwatchable using software decoders. So I have no choice but to stick with Samsung-based ROMs for now...

I like roms that are already in the android development.
But on a serious note if we all voted on a best rom everyone would be using that. You are only going to get different opinions. But good luck anyway.

I never tried MIUI because it looks to me like a clone of iPhone, when I want iPhone I buy iPhone...
I used CM7 because of its configuration options and theme chooser, hope CM9 will get them too...
I've tried all of them.
I prefer Samsung based ROMs at this time. They just seem to be the smoothest, most reliable ROMs which is not a surprise really. I did go through a phase where almost everything was stock but I've gone back to Go Launcher and Go SMS as I found the Samsung launcher too limiting (even though it is smooth, though Go Launcher isn't far behind) and the same can be said for the Sammy SMS app, also I find it a little slower than Go SMS in terms of responsiveness.
Cyanogen ROMs I feel do not run as fluidly as Samsung ROMs, and generally contain more bugs. As another poster said, they lack some of the codec support of the Samsung ROMs. Also, and I realise you can change this with themes etc, but the AOSP Android is a bit bland, at least in pre-ICS form. And CM9 simply isn't ready yet as a daily driver IMO. I look forward to revisiting CM9 when it is more polished.
MIUI ROMs I really like in terms of features. Everything you need is there out of the box, however, I find them resource hogs, and go a step further again than Cyanogen in not running as fluidly. You can see this when jumping from screen to screen or navigating menus, it feels like I am running an old Nexus One again in terms of speed. It just isn't fluid. This was a while ago so maybe things have changed. If they sorted these issues out, it could be the most fantastic ROM.
So Samsung ROM for me at the moment.

Well, I dont see how this post is the same as those noob questions on whats the best rom you see, if i posted one of those questions, it would be all those "there is no such thing as a best rom, only what fits you" kind of answers all over the place. This is only trying to get people to know what kind of ROMs we are all running, and also its the kind of stats that gets people knowing how many people are using what kind of rom.
hehehe and also you wrote android development, meaning you like Sammy-based ROMs, should have just entered it in the poll.

As stated, you don't have to write why you like it, just click on what you use in the poll, and people who are actually interested would actually care about the stats. No ROM discussion is required if the repliers don't want to reply. Just a poll.

true Sir i did not see the poll you already had above as i was on the phone. but anyhow android development is not just sammy based roms you have MIUI in there plus CM7 like builds and ICS but personally for me..I like so far yes you got it right Sammy based roms....But as soon source code gets released and Siyah is out for CM9 and they get it more stable i am making the leap straight away....
Cheers...Still find this pointless thread but anywhoo
I also prefer stock ROM's.
Not to ditch efforts of all custom ROM makers, but two reasons my stock preference. I really don't trust enough to 3rd party applications much. That's even true for my desktop computer.
Second of all, I'm a bit lazy to deal with any problems, bugs or other stuff that may occur and obviously more chance of bricking phone with 3rd parties.
Third reason unlike most, I really like TouchWiz and additions that Samsung did over standard Android. I have two other Android based devices, one of them is default, other is HTC. I know they lack a lot of free utilities and touch & feel, (and no Sense does not cut it)

Does MX video player rely on samsung codecs? because I use it with my stock rom and the latest versions play almost everything in Hw decoders.
Older versions used to play some video files in sw decoders , but now everything is hardware accelerated and I even use it instead of the default player.
So my understanding is that if an update made the app support more video formats in Hw decoding mode ,then it should be indpendent of the rom we're using ,right?
Anorexic stock for me. Never liked MIUI, and appreciate the stability/100% functionality of stock over CM every time.
Used the ROM kitchen on my SGS1, got used to having no bloat, and haven't looked back since.
The ROM in my sig ticks all my boxes.
I like Samsung Roms firstly for the Email app for my Company's exchange account. Also for the Enchansed camera app, for the BEST stability and Siyah Kernel for Speed and Battery life!
I voted for cyanogen, but honestly the best ROM is always the one I just flashed

[BETA] Testers needed for Elix-R ROM

Hi Guys, many of you may recognize me from the Nexus 5 forum through my contribution of Elix-R ROM to the Nexus 5 forum. Elix-R was extremely popular but sadly the last update i released for it was well over 5 months ago due to lack of time. I have come back to the development scene and what better way than to update my widely popular ROM to V1.2 Tetra.
The main reason for this thread is me needing average users that are willing to test my rom. My ROM's main focus is Stability, and Speed, For that exact reason I use the GPe ROM as a base to ensure maximum stability as well as speed. I have dedicated several hours to ensure that this ROM will be the snappiest and quickest ROM that you will ever experience for the M8. Not even kidding when I say that upon boot on dalvik it multitasks like ART. Besides that I like to add a touch of class to my ROMS and stylize and implement some nice and simple features that will result in a much better user experience than you would have using Stock.
There is one thing, Elix-R is not like most AOSP ROMS out there. I don't try to pack as much features and useless crap that will flood the device's resources. My end goal is to provide the cleanest, fastest, and most elegant experience for a ROM. So for that exact reason I don't base any of my ROMS on CM11, PA, ETC so please don't ask me to port features like that to this ROM. As mentioned before I use the stock GPe ROM as a base so modifications such as Boomsound and Motion Launch Gestures work 100%.
In order to become a tester for Elix-R V1.2 Tetra please PM me and I will send you a personalized copy to you for BETA testing purposes. Simple flash it then send me a simple and small review of how it performs, if you encountered any bugs, how it looks, and what might be needed to improve. Thanks

Xperia Z5 Rom for Moto G 2015!

I'm not a developer, nor do I have any association with this project. But I was searching android filehost for a particular rom, and version number.... when I ran across this rom that was just uploaded in the last 24 hours. Its the long awaited Xperia Rom for Osprey!
I've downloaded it, and am going to do an install, then post about it.
Because I'm a new user, I can't upload the link. But if you go to androidfilehost, and search for Osprey device Roms in the search bar, it will be the 2nd or 3rd link.
Wish me luck. This might be a game changer!!
Sounds cool will look it up please report if it works
Its booting up as we speak. Made it past the first animation... and also, TWRP reported a clean install. Said that SuperSU was installed, busybox, kernel, and rom image. Looks good thus far.
Is now optimizing apps 51 of 139 done.
Done.
Seems to be a smooth running OS. I cant do screenshots with it. But its an Xperia Z5 style rom, with a really nice camera feature. Built around CM. CM Version is XperiaZ5G-20160201. It IS lollipop though. Not MM. Build Number is Xperia Z5G by [email protected]
Runs on a CM/Pinky Kernel.
Has Xperia Keyboard. Xperia Cam. Nice themes. Some cool widgets. Sony Walkman music. Lots of Social Media features. Youtube Karoke feature.
All in all, its the most feature loaded Lollipop I've came across. I have tested an custom kernels with it yet, but its safe to assume that Blu_Spark will run on it.
Download is about 499mb, and leaves 3.75gb free after install with no additions.
Someone should make a thread for this, and get the word out. Xperia content is now on MOTO G3!!!!!!!!11
In general, people who search for AOSP ROM prefer light ROM without brand apps (often judged as "bloatwares").
Not sure people are that interested in Xperia apps, but I don't know them and maybe you're right and they are interesting.
I m 100% interested, will check soon and sure...

Is this a joke? You obviously have no experience with Xperia Roms. They are the smoothest and most feature rich among any roms in existence. They are sought after on this forum. Nearly every mid-level to high end phone has a developer that works to bring it to their platform. In fact, two threads have been started here with tons of support, but neither delivered.
Just curious though, why would anyone spend time reading THEN replying to a thread, explaining how other people feel about a rom that they have no expierence with? Its quite the oxymoron. It'd be equal to me saying that I bet "X" user would think your mom is ugly, and I'm not interested in her myself... but I'll read your single's ad, reply to it, and speak for everyone else.
But on a serious note, thanks for replying to the thread and expressing your 'uninterest', as well as the uninterest of the masses that you speak for.
Had you read my first post, or tried the Rom out for a spin... you'd know that the Xperia Rom mentioned, is in fact, CyanogenMod 12.1 --- wrapped in Xperia's awesome feature rich platform. So you get the best of both worlds:
1)The smoothest, fastest, leanest, and most popular custom rom on the market.
2)Xperia's top of the line, unique, and liquidy smooth toppings.
Try it before you knock it. And quit speaking for others. Thank you again for replying. It helps to boost the thread and get this rom to the people who desire it.
Someone is getting mad.
But you're right, my post was useless in the end. HF dude.
Is This topic some kind of a joke?

Huh? Why would the topic be a joke?
There's several people using this, or trying it as we speak. I've tested it semi-thoroughly, and found a handful of bugs. THe only problem is, I don't know how to report them. I really wish the developer would bring it to this site officially. Its a pretty sweet little rom, with lots of unique features you don't find other places. But being built around CM 12.1, its silky smooth.
I haven't tried any themes on it, but I did notice that the camera app in the perm bar crashes. However, the camera app in the app menu works great.
Thanks for posting the link to the rom. Now people will take this a little more serious. Especially with our user reports.

Why is oneplus x overshadowed by oneplus 2 and 3 ?

I mean, it still packs some decent specs under that beautiful design, regardless of performance. I mean, try to buy it from their site, it won't be highlighted or something, but op2 and op3 are. Try to find some oneplus x guides, op2 guide will show up, and this goes forever, you get it. MAY I MENTION IT's august 2016, the phone came in late 2015 and we still didn't get a 6.0 update ? I bet they gave up on oneplus x and we're never gonna get a 6.0 update actually. Some shameful shi.t right here. MORE MONEY, MORE PROBLEMS I SUPPOSE. They are blinded by the tremendous success of op2 and op3 phones so they dropped oneplus x "for good". That's how i'll never stick to oneplus again.
there is no need of this anxiety, CyanogenMod already has been released marshmallow of OPX and there are many developers ROM available you can try them i would like to prefer Sultan's ROM because i am using and it is really very good and battery backup is great SoT is unbelievable 4 to 5 hours. don't worry man there is always a hope..by the way oxygen os is no so good..... sorry if my narration is not make you happy

yes there is need for this anxiety, cyanogenmod has been released but there is no stable version out yet, yes there are many rom's available but everyone of them has one bug or the other, i would prefer stock rom because they have almost minor to no bugs because casual users like me dont go testing every feature of the rom after flashing. why would this matter you ask then lemme give you an example from a casual user's point of view, i'm chilling with my friends & they show me some content (might be any personal song or video) & i ask them to transfer it to me via bluetooth like any casual user & i find out that the bluetooth function is broken & that would be an embarassing situation i wouldn't wanna be in.
Pls dont get me wrong im not slandering the hard work of custom rom developers, im jus stating my point as a casual user whose not interested in SoT but just wants to feel safe knowing all the features of my phone are working well.
Many of you will say stick to oxygen 2.2 if you want to feel safe but i would say my one plus x is not that old and 7.0 is about to release im not asking for the latest but atleast give me 6.0 which even cheap & crappy chinese phones come with now a days.

never gonna buy OnePlus sh*t again...
Well im not talking about particular rom developers, they are in no way linked to the company itself. They develop custom roms for plenty of devices. As far as these goes, i tried paranoid, which is incredibly nice looking but it drains my battery pretty fast with wi-fi on all the time, and i can't connect to mobile data on either of sim cards. Sultan's xda is not any different from official cm13 rom, as far as i could tell, and any other cm13 roms for different devices. It's just the same interface im fed up with it. Oxygen os is a big dissapointment, i dont like it at all. ON THE OTHER HAND, H2os is perfect for me, perfect design, incredibly long battery life, but not quite good performances. Anyway, i bought the phone mostly cause of it's very nice looking design so i got to stick with lags in google play store.
Anyway, my point still stands. They been blinded by the success of oneplus 3 so they decided to forget about oneplus x. I bet we won't get android 6.0 at all.

Lad spoke for me! :good:
i've been saying the same shiet, just more gently. This right here is just a consequence.
no offense, but i would like to say i love my phone with custom ROM and i would suggest you guys should purchase google nexus phone if you really need latest Android and i am also thinking about but i have two sim that's why i purchased OnePlus x phone because of their commitment that they will provide latest Android but they betrayed us. Unfortunately we can't do anything despite shouting...is there any options? by the way i am happy by rooting my device and i like custom ROM.

well, we got lollipop with MM-like features xD
Coldfear I can't agree more with you, that's why I stick to OOS after have tested around 5 custom roms in my phone. Simply for the rock solid signal reception, the Super fast 4G, the unbeatable photo quality (yes I've tried sultans hal, but apart from fps, nothing comes close to stock camera image quality) and the fact that as a casual user all the every day features of the Rom are readily available to me when I need them. On the other hand all devs put their best efforts to provide a features rich roms and should continue doing so, in order satisfy all kind of users. Rom choice It's really a personal matter. Everyone keep up the good work.

A CM nightly with broken features can happen anytime, but then you flash a release from another date that corrected the casual bug. That's how its supposed to work. If you find a good build you stay with that for a month at least then update. If you are not happy with the new update you go back to the rom you were using. And with twrp everything is easy, and finish in few minutes. And lets not forget that OOS 5.1 has released many updates and users are still complaining about bugs there too. Anyway I think that OPX team has done a good job with OOS, they are still updating it in a time when everyone is focused one OP3.
OP3 is the flagship, it has just been released and has attracted a huge fan base already. Its normal it has overshadowed OPX which now is a mid-range budget phone. I think that after some months, they will put some effort on bringing a full working MM on OPX. And then , start working on OP4
I remember, when OnePlus were asked why they haveused an older chipset in OnePlus X , they said that it'll help the device to have more (unofficial) development support. I think they indirectly implied ,"OnePlus X users, we won't be updating your software since we have provided you with a chip set that is going to have a great amount of (unofficial) developer support. So, don't bother us by asking for updates and let us concentrate on our "Flagship killers" ".

I have to disagree with you here.
1. Picture quality is better on SulatanXDA roms. It can be subjective, but it seems so. Even my friend semi-pro photographers said so. I don't care about 4K recording/FPS much
2. There are no bugs.
3. I get 50 Mbit/s on LTE outside of the building. It differes depending on time of the day and location obviously.
Anyway I do recommend SultanXDA rom to anyone who is looking to replace buggy (yes it is buggy and never updated!!!) OOS. Love this phone.... The only thing I hate is lack of 5GHz band for wifi (it isn't even the band as the support is there, One+ was lazy enough not to put an antenna in)
