I got my Nexus 7 yesterday (bought from Google Play), I played with it, installed apps, etc.... at about 11pm I plug it in to my factory charger which is on a surge protector, it proceeds to charge while I continue using it for 2 hour or so. When I went to bed I turned it off. I noticed the charging indicator (battery filling up). When I got home today I unlugged it and tried to turn it on...Nothing, so I plugged it into my computer, the charging indicator came up, I waited 5 minutes and turned it on, I then went to the store and when I got back I went to plug it straight to the wall for a faster charge, when I moved it it immediately powered off. After 5 min of "charging" I powered on and went to the battery summary page, it says 0% charging (AC). Its been here for about 30 min now, the usage graph shows a flat red line. Is my battery defective?
Nevermind. False alarm, thank God.:victory: My usb extension cable seems to be the problem. Also if anyone is curious, the htc usb cable works fine and is longer.
My Nexus 7 won't charge. I've tried 3 chargers, including the provided one, all of which work on several phones, but none work on the Nexus 7. And it's been a tedious few hours in a queue on the phone trying to get hold of anything to even start the returns process. I can only assume the stories you see when you google 'nexus 7 fault' are true and that many, many people are queueing up to get their faulty unit refunded or replaced. It's a shame - I've played with a working one and it's very nice.
I've had a similar problem for a few days now. When its plugged in, on or off, it will only gain afew percent battery even over a full24 hours. I broke the tip of my stock cable, so thats not an option but ive tried with several other cables with the same results. I'm afraid to use this thing any more unless its plugged in so since it may not charge once it dies. Did you ever solve your problem?
Ok i turned on the dev option by clicking the build number several times.
Then i checked the "don't turn off screen while charging"
So if i plug in a normal usb (haven't tested the new cable for this one yet) the screen comes on and it charges as it should.
But if i close the screen (clicking on the power button once) and leave the phone, then the phone dosen't take any charge at all.
I just woke up this morning with same % on the phone as when i got to bed, the only thing i did was to close the screen so it wouldn't light up my bedroom.
Ok, this night i had disabled in the dev option to have the screen on.
So this night i had 55% battery. plugged in the charger and the screen auto dimmed and 5 sec later closed as normal.
This morning when i woke up 9Hr later i have 44% battery left..
So somehow it dosen't charge my phone over night when the screen is off, or could it be something else?
Factory reset
I'm having a charging issue to, but mine won't charge unless the device is completely turned off.
Ok i have made a strange discovery here.
I have 2 USB Chargers, my old "HTC Incredible S" usb charger is in my bedroom, so i used that while i sleep.
And my new original charger Note 3 (that is also a usb charger) at the computer (That i use on the day).
But when using the HTC usb charger i get no more then 64% battery as maximum on my Note 3.
Why is this, isen't usb a worldwide standard? (Whats so special with the Note 3 usb charger?)
If i use a usb 2 cable (with an extra long 250cm cable) with my Note 3 charger i get full battery also.
And to take this question to the next step, will something like this even work then:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/QI-Wireless...Chargers&var=430207964801&hash=item1e8125e2fa
Is so, will it only work with the original Note 3 usb charger to get full battery?
Since 4 Days i experienced something weird.
When i want to charge my Note 4 i connect the Fast Charger to it. It is recognized as Fast Charging devioce and the device starts loading. 5 seconds later the device stops charging, 1 sec after that it restarts charging. Then it stops after 3 seconds and then again it starts. Sometimes my note (instead of charging) opens the Gear Vr app or tells me it is connected with a dockingstation.
So i tried using my Galaxy s5 charger. the problem goes on...charging..stop..charging..stop...charging..stop..so i looked at my usb port and cleaned it....nothing..no dirt...with the s5 charger iam able to find a position in which the phone starts to charge.
any suggestions?

Try the Hama MO•38É.
The MO 38E has Quick Charging and Healthy Trickle Charging and is VERY ROBUST!
0-100% in just 35 Min for the Note 4 (don't blame me, if my information is wrong)
0-50 % in just 20 Minutes ☺☻
I don't want to advertise with it but i made good experience with the MO 38E!

This is a very weird issue. Best suggestion would be to bring it back to Samsung for repairs.
Before you send it back, try using a Blower or compressed air can to clean both the USB cable and the phone's micro USB port. Or maybe try a different Cable.
The problem sounds like a hardware issue because a) the second charger provides the same results, and b) there's a special position where charging commences - if I understood the OP right.
So I fear it's something like a bad soldering joint at the USB port. :/
Kenney: Try compressed air; maybe it's just a tiny fracture of metal sticking somewhere in the port.
this is why i use a Qi charger lol. nothing to break and the phone ports stay undamaged.

hy bro i am having the same problem that you mentioned so did you find a solution plz let me know.
This is a problem that is entirely too common on ANY phone that uses a micro USB socket for charging. The whole design of this type of socket is pathetically fragile and (imo) totally unsuitable for regular plugging in to.....
I have owned/do own several Galaxy devices, on 2 of them, the socket has failed and a 3rd device is showing early signs of the same failure.
My wife's current device is the Note 4 and mine is the S5....Both have this (stupid) micro USB socket......
For both of these devices, I have purchased a second battery and an external wall charger......simply because I DO NOT TRUST that the connectors in these phones will last the length of the contracts they were purchased under.....

This is also happening to me. Any solution to this?
Done some research.......
The USB socket is directly soldered to the surface of a 'daughterboard' (a separate board connected to the main/motherboard by a flat 'flex' cable).
The connectors on the socket are *tiny* and totally unsuitable for hand soldering, so the entire daughterboard will need replacing.
I don't know how difficult it will be to replace the board, but if it's anything like the S5, the screen will have to be removed in order to access it.......A very delicate and none too easy part to remove..........
.......and if the board follows the same pattern as with the S2, there will be multiple variants of it, none of which is interchangeable...meaning you have to find the right one.
Most Samsung devices come with a 2 year warranty (at least in the EU) so my advice is to get a warranty repair......

okay so I think my USB port might just be broken.. because I tried with sky-high kernel also.. still says cable charging.. and it’s not even AC charging, it says USB even though it’s plugged into an outlet. I tried with multiple cables too..same thing. USB charging :/

Yep.....that does sound like a classic symptom of a port failure......
And as you mention custom kernels, I wouldn't count on Samsung repairing it under warranty.....you have probably tripped knox, so Samsung is likely to say 'not our problem'......

I noticed that when i went home and plugged my S7 Edge into a powerstrip it wouldn't quick charge. At work and home in direct outlets it seemed to always do it. Now I'm at work again and I plugged it in and it's telling me it'll take 7 hours to fully charge. Anyone else have this issue?
Disregard, I'm a moron and the USB cable wasn't fully plugged into the wall adapter :/
I had my axon 7 for over a year now, but just started experiencing a charging issue. When the device is on and I plug in to charge, it simply doesn't receive a current to charge. But when I shut off the device and plug it in, it charges and then when I turn on the phone with the cable still plugged in, it continues charging. What gives? I'm assuming it's a 3rd party application gone rouge because I switched chargers and none of them seem to work...how can I get to boot into safe mode to test it when the phone is on...and any ideas of which apps or processes can be the cause of this problem?
That issue it's driving me nuts as well that just started to happen last week I guess it's time to change battery or something I'm not planning to upgrade my device still on immaculate form and zero problems until last week
