Hey guys,
I just got rid of my note 3 for the s5 due to mainly the size and I'm noticing I'm having a horrible experience in calls. During calls the other person will go in and out, volume up and down, and some crackling. This happens when I dial out or receive calls. I'm rooted and have the new Alliance room on the device. Are there any other modems I might be able to try to fix this issue? Never had a problem talking to these same people on my note 3.
Or any thoughts on how to fix my issue?
Thanks,
Jonathan

I'm running the same rom but I'm not experiencing those issues and there's not another modem to try out yet.
Did you have the same problem on stock?
Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I had a lot of strange issues when I first got my s5. I had the camera ui get stuck upside down, random WiFi and 4G disconnects, issues with copying media to internal and extsdcard, lock screen/wake freezes... All sorts of problems. I ALMOST returned the phone. Instead I used Odin along with the ap and pit files to reflash the ROM. Haven't had any issues on stock or with safestrap and custom TW Roms since then. I'm also currently running alliance 1.1 and have had any issues with call quality or volume. I would try using Odin like I suggested, testing on stock, if there are still problems present then returning/swapping the phone if possible.
Sorry I couldn't be much more helpful than that. Good luck

I do have them on stock really weird. I talked to Verizon today and they are sending me a replacement. Thank you both for the responses.

Hi guys,
I just got a 16GB Nexus 4, rooted on CM10.1 [most recent version] and I love the phone. Lately, I've had a few strange problems with it...
My girlfriend says that call quality is really bad, and that sometimes she can hardly hear me. Also, she says that she gets my texts late/out of order and it's really annoying. On top of that, my phone tells me that it loses signal and I'm not sure why...I live in the midwest and this was never a problem for me on my SGSIII.
Any help, advice, or tips anyone?
Much appreciated, thank you so much.
Have you tried flashing a different ROM and see if the issue persists?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Callers at the other end have difficulty hearing me, and I've never been able to find a solution. At first, I thought it's the ROM I was using, but after flashing the stock rooted ROM, same problem. I'm using the correct baseband. I'll do a test tomorrow, returning the phone to factory condition with the latest images from Google.
Has anybody gotten this problem and was able to fix it?
Update: Back to factory condition. Issue still isn't fixed.
Newer update: Called Google Play Store via this number 1-855-836-3987. They'll be sending a replacement.

Maybe you can get yours replaced by warranty. I called Google Play Store (that's where I bought mine from) and I'll be receiving a replacement.

While i am not stock, I did notice this one time with my phone... like extremely LOW to the point i was pressing the phone HARD against my ear to hear.
Solution? I went ahead and flashed Paranoid Android 3.56 and flash the Louder volume MOD in the themes and apps section. That fixed my issue, I also know that not all of you will want to root, and that this SUCKS. but try to restart the phone.
Just root guys, this phone was made for that

Oh actually the issue I'm talking about is different. The ear piece volume is fine, but whenever I talk to someone on the phone, they can barely hear me unless I use speaker phone. I was actually using Paranoid Android, and I was being told I can barely be heard. So I flashed back to factory to see if it was a ROM issue. Sadly it wasn't.. On factory ROM I can still barely be heard.

Got my nexus 4 recently and i am also facing the same issue with some callers...not sure if this is a network issue or there's something wrong with my phone. Did the replacement solve your problem?

I'm having the same problem as well. Just received my Nexus 4 last week. They especially can't hear me if I'm speaking to them through my car speakers (3.5mm connection, not bluetooth). Wasn't a problem at all in the same vehicle with my Galaxy Nexus. Please let us know if the replacement worked better.

I am also having the same problem...my girl keeps shouting that she can not hear me..at first i thought some problem with network but than some of ma friends said same thing...whats the option now..?? i am from india and i imported it from US so cnt send back there..is anyone found any solution..??
I tried using headsets and the results were pretty much better..
Wish I could help. Just had to RMA mine today. Completely stock, no mic. Works when plugged in, sometimes, but for the most part no audio. When it is plugged in, the wife says I sound like I'm trapped in a bottle lol echo and static.
I had the same problem when I was running full stock. It was really annoying to hear "I can't hear you..." every other sentence.
This won't help if you do not want to root or run custom ROMs but since I switched to PA 3.56 and Matr1x kernel the people on the other end of the line haven't been complaining. I imagine for whatever reason it was fixed would apply to most custom ROMs and Kernels. I'll actually test this out this weekend and edit my post afterwards.
Edit: I made some calls to friends on PA/Matr1x/Radio .48 and everything seemed fine. I flashed full stock and called back the same people and only one person said they heard a noticeable decrease in the quality. That person also knew I was testing different settings on my phone so maybe they were messing with me.

i also switched to custome rom (Carbon) and have not had any complaint regarding the issue..still will confirm in sometime if the problem exist or not
Bumping an old thread ...
So my gf started complaining that she could barely hear me when I was using my Klipsch S4A headphones to talk--while in the car and in a quiet room. I was on CM10.1 at the time and I had read complaints from others with the same/similar issue on other ROMs, even stock/unrooted. I chalked it up to 4.2 and hoped 4.3 would fix it.
It appears that isn't the case. I just sacrificed root so I could flash a clean install of 4.3 (new bootloader and radio included) hoping it would at least mean I could have normal conversations with my gf again while the devs cook up CM10.2. How bummed am I to find out that the issue persists. I just called her from my office with my headset on and she said I "still sound far away." This is really frustrating. I never had this issue on my GNex.

I wish someone comes up with a solution for this.. I was hoping 4.3 would solve this issue also. Some say its cause of the noise reduction, isn't there anyway we could disable noise reduction?! I remembered I had that option on CM10 my i9300 but not on nexus 4 build.. This is really an issue for me since i always use headset for phone calls.. I was wondering if the original Nexus 4 headset would solve this issue.

What radio are you using? I changed to the .33/.84 hybrid here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2412052 and callers can hear me much more clearly.

Hi guys,
i found 2 "solutions" which didnt work for Nexus 4:
1: typing *#*#3646633#*#* into the phone to enter the engineering mode. "Should" work for all Android, does not for Nexus 4
2: the App "MobileUncle". Does only work for MTK Chipsets (Nexus 4 has another one)
my question: is there something like the Engineering mode for the Nexus 4 ?
Same issue on Nexus 5
FYI, the nexus 5 has the low input volume gain when using 3.5mm headphones with inline mics. I don't understand what LGs problem is with 3.5mm connections or why it was never tested.
started a discussion on in here
Any solution yet???
I have the exact same Issue, Android 4.4.2 and the issue is not fixed weird that only Nexus 4 has it. I am like you trying to find an app or a way to work around the issue, tried to install other ROM using rom manager and phone when SLOW as heck so no idea how to fix it yet, loud speaker to every single call is not the way to go

Recently (within the past two months) I have been experiencing a few issues with my S4. It started when I installed a nightly version of SlimKat, upon boot the rom was extremely laggy. Laggy as in FPS drops, not very slow loading. It went away after a couple minutes, so I decided to deal with it. I had seen people report similar issues before on this forum. However, after the laggy boots I started to experience random crashes, presumably due to ram. It would go to the recents screen (I had the RAM bar enabled) and would show negative ram available. After a few of these I decided to flash back to stock (MDL) with odin, and I didn't get any of the problems. I re-rooted and re-flashed and I experienced the same issues, no matter which ROM I used. At the moment I have it flashed back to stock with odin. I figure there is something wrong at a level further than a flack to stock can fix, is there any method to flash the phone to the EXACT form it was in when I bought it from the store? Or is there some sort of hardware triggered "switch" that once the phone is rooted cannot be undone? Thanks for the help guys!

Flashing the stock firmware in odin should bring the phone back to the way it was when you bought it. If you're still having issues it could be pending hardware failure.

Awesome to hear, any loss of signal? Can you tell me what you did to upgrade?

Signal is just as good as JB if not better for me. And to update I just odin stock 4.4.2 NC4 from sammobile then re root and update safestrap to 3.75. And if you need anymore help all the videos you need are on this page https://www.youtube.com/user/SurgRisesUrg?app=desktop

I have 2 day one note 3's. One was on JB rooted, mine on NC4 safestrapped. My signal was pretty bad, but my wife's was fine on JB. updated both to jasmine stock 5.0.1 rooted and her signal is just as good as it ever was, but mine improved IMMENSELY after the update. I have better signal, and 3g/4G handout is much smoother.
Awesome guys, thanks for the info. Looks like I need to upgrade...

Upgraded just fine, all is good so far. Thanks for the input guys!
I found 1 issue. May just be me since I use the VZW Note 3 on T-Mobile. When I'm talking to an automated system and it wants me to press a button, it will not recognize it if my speaker phone is on. If speaker phone is off, it works fine.
No direct access to microSD under Lollypop
Still no access to apps and games, no way to move photos and music onto microSD without connecting to PC.
Launch day Note 3 here. Upgraded from NK1 then did a factory reset. No obvious issues until the first week in. Phone is noticeably snappier.
1. Samsung keyboard occasionally force closes. Once a week roughly, and I restart my phone every 48 hours.
2. Google play services random force closes-rare.
3. This has only happened once, but YouTube displayed all green while the audio was normal. Both in landscape and portrait mode. During this time, Netflix wouldn't play anything. Samsung Video player would crash as would VLC. A reboot fixed this..
4. The phone seems to switch to 3g at around -110DB now instead of -120. Cool story! This means instead of 1 bar of LTE at work I get 3g. Great. I get a weak signal outside my office building anyway, so no surprise but..
I ran Lollipop for a few weeks then went back to 4.4.4 because of these bugs...and the HIDEOUS orange in the messages app. Yes, I know I could've used another SMS app. I'll go back to Lollipop if/when they straighten this out in the next build (which the note 3 may very well not see for months)
Go check!
ATTENTION: I am having major issues texting after this update. Can anyone else confirm? Even after a factory reset.
Just got it myself. No changelog. Was 44MB, took about 20 min. 86 apps optimized

Att phone not working. Unlocked phone works perfectly. So strange.
Update: I kept the phone switched off all night and today it seems to be working? Weird.
I always Dtag my feet updating a new phone. Usually in a vain hope of a root exploit (just in case it needed to not have the update for any reason), but also to wait for any kinks to be worked out upon release. Which is odd thinking about it, since I have always thrown caution to the wind flashing ROMs, recoveries, kernels, .sbfs, anything rooted. But I guess thats because I know I can either fix it or flash a different one. With a stock update, you can't even go back, you're stuck with what you flashed, so I'm more leery. But my phone will sneak it in one night
I am experiencing the same issue after this update and sending text. It seems to only be sending text.
Any updates on a fix?
since the update, my phone has froze and rebooted about 5 times. Anyone else with issues? I also constantly get a notification saying GameService has been updated.

It can't be an issue with the update because the update had nothing to do with the audio settings. I do agree that low headphone audio has been a problem with this phone since launch. I would have to say it is one of the few major problems. What makes it worse is the fact that it shouldn't be this way. Audio levels are extremely easy to adjust on the firmware level (we can't because we don't have root access), but AT&T and Samsung could very easily push a fix for this. I can't believe that the headphone audio is like this on purpose, because it's nearly unusable with external plug in speakers. Everything has to be maxed out just to get low-medium volume levels. And I'm talking about powered external speakers, The Bluetooth audio is a little low also, but it was about the same on my S4 and very easily corrected by raising the volume level a little on the phone and the external (car in my case), so it is acceptable.
If Samsung is worried about hearing loss issues, they could easily give people an option (through disclaimer) to use higher volume levels if they are using an external wired speaker versus headphones. They already have a similar volume disclaimer built in to the regular audio adjustment anyway.
The headphone / external speaker volume is just pathetic. Maybe AT&T and Samsung will pull their heads out off their butts soon and give people an update to correct the issue.
