I am running C-RoM** -4.4.4- -v7.1. and I'm having a issue with the default SMS app is there not a split option? I am using the FULL MODULAR PACKAGE and whenever I get to 160 characters, it will not let me type any more characters to continue my text, usually it would begin to split the text into multiple messages until I reach a certain amount of characters and it becomes a MMS, so why can't I type more than 160 characters? Thanks! Is everyone else also having this issue? Thanks
This is a copy and paste from another s4 rom..
*Hidden Features from Stock MMS/SMS application (thanks to this INCREDIBLE GUIDE BY jovy23 THANK YOU!!!): XDA THREAD
*No SMStoMMS conversion
*SMS/MMS Custom smileys (No more UGLY Green ones)
*SMS/MMS Show sent time instead of time received
*Save and Restore SMS/MMS to SD Card
*Enabled group messaging
*Unlimited SMS recipients
With the second entry in mind... could this be some kind of 'feature' gone wrong possibly?

Ok guys, I've searched and dont see this question or suggestion so please dont flame me.
Why is it possible to add a smiley from a new MMS message but not with SMS?
I use Smiley SMS but the smiley icons are very small.
Surely it's a registry hack to allow default compose to be MMS form.
Am I being stupid?
I think you're mixing things up.
MMS are MultiMedia Messages, which can contain large text and attachments (images, video, sound, etc).
SMS are text-only, so you can't put images in those. What SmileySMS does is probably the same thing as SMSChat: interprets the sms's you receive and replaces ": )" (for instance) with a smiley image stored in your device.
When you add a smiley to your message and send it, the other guy won't see a smiley, but ": )", unless he views it with your program too.
So, no, you can't registry-hack it to display images
?

Actualy i dont get what your asking but the only simileys you can send via ems but i dont know if windows moblie.
other than that you can send the usual ;-) :-( :-D .
As said already, SMS & MMS are two different types of messages. Only the "smiley" you type goes through as text to the recipient, while SmileySMS recognizes it as an image for you to see.
I understand the differences.
What I was questioning is whether it be possible that the sms compose form be similar to MMS. So if you selected a smiley, it would send "" etc etc
Sony Ericsson and Samsung phones allow you to send SMS messages with animated smileys. It's a shortfall of WM that it doesnt give a better messaging experience.
Thanks for your input guys !!

Yeah, but you'll never really send the smiley, so your will be sent out as : D.
But instead of typing the text equivalent, I'd like to see the smiley and select it, therefore the abbreviation is automatically insterted into message - just as the MMS form does
Surely the Masterchefs can do a hack which can use the MMS form but sends as SMS
I don't know what type of device you have, but if it has a keyboard, then you might try Smilies Input Panel .
Keyboard for text and numbers, and SIP for smilies...
You can even edit it, make sure to scroll down to the bottom of the page to see how..

i understand what u mean, but the MMS portion sends the graphic (i think) it doesnt inerpret ; - ) and change it to
smilieysms is a plugin for sms, which intercepts the text and uses its own display model to replace ; - ) with
so im guessing, no to use MMS editor, as in both instances it will place the graphic in the text body, and also on received messages, display the received graphic, not ; - ) replaced with
phew!

Nope, the MMS just inserts ascii characters into the text portion of the MMS, try it and see for yourself.
no flaming but please ask questions in the QUESTIONS Thread.
Hi all,
Ive noticed for my ATT tilt 2, the text messaging limits it to only 160 characters. When i go over the 160 character limit, i dont see the rest of the message and im not sure if whether the characters past 160 characters are sent or not. Is there anyway to change this? Thanks in advance for any replies.
Cheers!
My understanding is that this is a limitation of SMS in general, not your device or carrier. If your message is greater than 160 characters, then the message is sent as 2 SMS, rather than 1.
the above poster is correct ::highfive:: guythathasateddbearforasig!
Hi ohyeahar,
First off, thanks for the reply. On my old SE phone, when i send over the 160 character limit it does automatically send two text message and it shows that i sent 2 text message in my sent message folder. However, for my tilt 2, it just shows only 1 text message and it cuts off at 160 characters. So im not sure if it actually sent 2 text messages or if it only sent 1 and it just sent at the cutoff of 160 characters.
Any idea with that or how to change that so if its past 160 character, it will automatically send 2 messages instead of 1?
Thanks!

Don't know what you mean, dude. I just sent myself a message that's 170 characters to see what you mean. See the following screenshots. The sequence of "1234567890" (which is characters number 161 through 170) appears to me as the recipient and as the sender.
This is consistently shown via the main SMS tab in Manila, the SMS tab inside the unified communications tab in Manila, the WinMo default threaded messaging window, and in the sent items of the WinMo default messaging app.
the tilt 2 will allow you to type up to 800 characters and it will split it up into 5 sms messages to the end user
now if you want a large message all as 1, send it as an mms, i dont remember how large you can type in mms format, but its more then 800 characters, and it will be all as 1 big message.
I may know what you mean, and see what you mean as it's happening on my Tilt 2. In the Sense UI messaging application (if you slide to Messages, touch it, and reply) it only shows 160 characters of the message you type. But if you actually go to All Messages, and from the Inbox click the person who you sent it to, it shows the full message. I believe it's just a screen limitation with the Sense UI, but the full message should have been sent.
Thanks for all the inputs guys! It was very helpful.
ianderson_76: thanks, that was the problem. After going to all messages, I can see the full text being sent and received.
Cheers!

I have a Tilt 2 on ATT...and I noticed that there's a message that pops up everytime I send a text in TF3D...
It a confirmation that the message was sent. It's really stupid and I want it gone...but can't figure out how to delete it...
Any thoughts?

Hi
I just installed duttys 6.5.3 rom on my hd2 and I’ve been flashing for a while I noticed something weird happened with my text message sms character limit. I use to always be able to type as much as I want in a text window beyond 160 characters and send it off. It didn’t matter to me that the recipient would receive it in broken messages.
However just recently I no longer have this option, when i start my text it will not let me go beyond 160 characters. Also when I’m typing the little indicator that gauges how many characters I input going beyond 160 is gone as well. Is there something I missed while flashing? Is there a setting somewhere or registry edit to remove this limit? I have been flashing for a year and have never experienced this with my touch hd or my hd2 until now. PLEASE HELP!
Hello everyone,
After a long time of searching, i ended here to get help with my problem.
First of all i would like to say that i hate HTC Messaging because its way to slow.
The solution I simple, don’t use HTC Messaging but use the normal TouchFlo Messaging app instead. The only problem I had with this program is that it has no character count. And I really want to know how many characters I use in an SMS, because I want to know how many messages I have to use to send all the text.
I added an image to explain what I really want. (photoshopped)
2 options:
1e add character count to TouchFlo Messaging
2e add the standard SMS \ MMS app to TouchFlo
Can someone help me with this problem?
Btw, if my English is bad, I’m not from England
On my ROM (Topix 3.6 without HTC Messaging), you won't get a count if you reply direct from the main screen, you need to select "All Messages" to go into the inbox, select a message and the reply will show the letter count as you type
I have found the solution for this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=608162
I have a quick question. Is there a way to force a "text" message to be sent as MMS instead of SMS using the stock messaging app? It looks like right now, if the message is all text, then only after the 6th 140 character message will it convert to MMS, otherwise it stays on SMS and splits it into 6 SMS messages. I want to choose to convert it sooner if I want. Is that possible? I know that if I insert a picture then it will convert to MMS immediately, but I want text ONLY MMS. Thanks!

So I take it this is not possible?

Don't know why you want to force txt mssg to be sent as MMS but there is a setting in stock messaging app that combines all the split mssgs to be send as one whole mssg. Don't know if this what you want tho.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
Create a google voice number. Then use that number with whoever you want to text as a group text. It'll become MMS instead of SMS for group texting.
