[Q]Droid Razr M, CM11: help configuring PagePlus 3G - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I bought a used Droid Razr M on ebay a couple of months ago...(xt907). Then let it sit around for awhile
I recently rooted and unlocked the bootloader, following the recent forum posts for the kitkat update.
Just today I then successfully booted into twrp recovery, and installed CM11. Then booted into CM11 - yeah! This is progress!
I now have the goal of configuring the phone to work with PagePlus (Verizon 3G network).
I have found a good toutorial at howardformums, but the toutorial is for ICS, not for KitKat. My understanding is that the radio files, configuration, etc, is different and won't work with KitKat
I also notice that CM11 has some configuration options for which radio, network, etc, within settings.
I'm trying to figure out the specifics of the following:
1) Do I need to use CDMA workshop with CM11/KitKat to configure any settings?
2) I'm assuming I'll still need a donor phone to spoof this phone as 3G on network?
3) Can I just use OTA with CM11?
4) Are there any toutorials for CM11 with 3G providers? Or any distros pre-configured for this situation?
I've made it pretty far...just looking for a little help to make it to the next step...looking forward to getting this phone activated!
Thanks for any tips!
M

I don't know if this will help or not... I'm sorry I can't offer more then that

One question, if you know: If I installed and configured ICS on my phone, would I then be able to upgrade to kitkat, and maintain the configuration information for my provider? Would KitKat automatically configure this info?
M

I honestly do not know as I'm a vzw 4g legacy plan (love that unlimited data) I don't really read the threads about gsm and other network carriers...

Well right now you've got 2 options.
1. I just recently found out that it's possible to activate a sim meid# and get calling/sms working through *228 but you need to get the meid from dfs.
This is for calling and text only data will not work other than wifi
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?p=15221091
2. Downgrade to jb 4.1.2. Fastboot flash the ics radio
And perform the flash as instructed on Howard forums.
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?p=15126290
Once everything is working on JB 4.1.2 you can flash twrp recovery and run cm11 builds before 7-1 and kitstalk rom is supporting the jb bootloader as well

In short... No when you ota it'll flash/patch the radio and the only one programmable to page plus is the ics one. Thankfully it stayed compatible up to the last jb versions but broke on the kk update

What is the best rom to use for Page Plus/selectel compatibility or should you stick with stock Verizon Jelly-bean?

Any of the jellybean bootloader roms have been working great for me. On the kk bootloader roms you can't use the ics radio so the 1st link is the only option and it won't get you data

Thanks for all the info and help, I may go ahead and try using the suggested roms, links, etc...
*However*
There is a topic over at howard forums discussing the possibility that PagePlus may add Verizon 4g plans very soon...there is no official verificaiton or announcement, but supposedly this could happen as soon as August? I'm tempted to just wait it out another few weeks and see if I could just use a "PagePlus 4g" sim with kitkat....
....otherwise I'll use one of the older builds
Thanks!

I too am interested in that thread but then again most of the kk bootloader builds are more buggy than the jb ones right now. I'm currently running carbon rom from 6-30

So, just to clarify, even though the radio files only work for jb, I could downgrade to jb, configure, and then upgrade to CM11 up to 6-30-14? If so, I found this nightly build I could try the following file: cm-11-20140630-UNOFFICIAL-RAZR-HD_M-KITKAT.zip
(not allowed to post link, but found it posted by 'dhacker'

Edit: misunderstood the question. Yes that nightly is still on the jb bootloader and the m8 snapshot is the latest/last cm11 build to support it.
Also the phone can still be programmed on cm11. The important part is the ics radio and it can be used on the jb bootloader no problem but not on the new kk bootloader

Hmmm...I just tried installing the special jb radio file on two different CM11 versions: one was m8, the other m7, and with both, it failed. I'll try another with an m6 version, but I wonder if that jb radio file (X907_Modem_SM_BP_1139.000.32.12P.xml) will only install with the earlier official verizon jb version (4.1.2)?

I'm running it right now on pac 8-11 and have used it on just about every rom available for the razr m you say it's failing to flash? That's likely a bad download. Can you unzip it?

I can unzip it, and I'm using Xubnuntu as my OS. I tried installing it using TeamWin recovery, and using RSD lite...both failed.
Just tried downloading it again (from link on Page Plus toutorial), and installing again with cm-11-20140720-NIGHTLY-moto_msm8960.zip. It fails in TWRP almost instantly.
Should I be using a different build? Is there another file I should flash first? I flash the cm rom, boot it one time, then try to flash the radio file...am I missing a step?
Thanks for the help...

Download the whole ics fxz and edit out everything in the xml except NON-HLOS.bin and erase modemst1 and modemst2 and flash that via rsd lite. I'm not sure why your previous attempts to flash aren't working but it's not the rom.
Edit: I made this with nobe1976's flashback zip. It'll flash the jb bootloader jb kernel and a jb bootloader compatible twrp recovery and I switched out the jb radio for the ics one

I'm sorry I should have mentioned that was supposed to be flashed via custom recovery, and you may have to reflash cm11 afterwards

Cool, glad to hear. All credit goes to nobe1976 all i did was swap out the radio for the ics one.

Noob guide.

Just wondering if there is anything special to know about rooting etc on the G2. Or is it as simple as others? I have had MANY android phones from Xperias to Galaxy's, htcs and most recently the Nexus 4.
Is there a noob guide on here I can't find much but admittedly I'm on Tapatalk at the minute.
How do I unlock boot loader or even can I?
Can I just fastboot flash a custom recovery?
What is this root checking that voids warranty is it like Samsung yellow triangle?
Sorry if any of this is stupid but I've never had an LG.

first things first what model of g2 do you have/ are planning on getting(to recommend proper rooting method), anyways I recommend ioroot for rooting your device(easiest way and lots of support), second to unlock bootloader and flash roms/kernels without issues you need to loki your device or get a twrp/cwm with loki built in to it. As for flashing recovery the easiest is to use freegee from the play store and choose which recovery you would like to use, once rooted the root check is in download mode it will say if it's rooted or not but using lg flash tool and going to stock removes this and there aren't any stupid questions if I do say so myself. Hope this helps any thing else let us know

That does help thanks I've learnt to ignore the unhelpful and ignorant.
It is just the international version it should arrive tomorrow. So from what I understand I can follow any root and boot loader unlock guide that matches my version. And can fully return to stock with no traces or issues?

yea pretty much as long as you don't flash the wrong file everything will be smooth anyways this is the international thread(http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/development-d802) so you can sart planning what you want to do once it arrives and trust you gonna love it
also:
root- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48709232&postcount=869 (latest ioroot and drivers)
rooting instructions- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448887
recovery twrp- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449670 (I prefer twrp)
recovery cwm- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468858 (just in case your not a fan of twrp)
(both recoveries include loki already)
As a last note if by any chance you want to try stock kitkat (you can try official without root by flashing http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2664933 through lg flash tool) or if you root first you can try(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2665985) although you will lose custom recovery and need to use the flash tool to jump down to stock jb and start again have fun :fingers-crossed:
Similar Situation but with Sprint
Hello, I'm kinda in the same situation. except the G2 is with Sprint.
First, i'd just like to say that i can root, twrp, custom with quite a few HTC and Samsung phones but have yet to tackle an LG. It's actually my girlfriends. I told her not to accept any updates when she recieved the phone today from the local Sprint Store. So as it stands she's completely stock to my knowledge. I've included pictures.
Since she's on Sprint and NOT International, i can only assume the guides that you posted to help our other friend will not help me(or at least to an extent). I'm definitely not opposed to reading and learning, just really unsure where to start as the G2 is only split on the carrier level at Development. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

the rooting works with the g2 as long as it's stock 4.2.2 and the recovery guide for twrp plus 2.6.3.3 from here(http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/g2spr) should work but I did see somewhere that an update to the sprint model added some spark thing(I don't know what it is exactly) that does not play too well with custom kernels
on another note the reason for it splitting on a carrier level is so that no one flashes something that isn't for them which would cause lots of unwanted problems but of course if you want a rom for your model you head over to the sprint thread look for the one you want and flash away, and always remember to have a backup it can save your phones life someday
---------- Post added at 11:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:04 PM ----------
also forgot to mention there are other methods of flashing recoveries from play store like freegee, goo manager, rom manager, etc but I did not include because I am not sure wether they include loki or not which is important if you wanna flash certain roms and mainly different kernels
Wow that's some great help and info there mate thanks for all the help! Seems like everything I need all in one place. Its out for delivery today so will hopefully be playing with it by this evening.
From what I can tell from a little reading there isn't a UK KitKat officially yet at the minute? Is there any I can manually flash with minimal to zero bloat? Just standard LG software?

Well like I mentioned before if you root first you can flash this(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2665985) if done correctly you keep root but will lose recovery because as of yet there isn't one and since its international bloat is minimal unlike when it's from an American carrier
Once you root, using freegee to install recovery is trivial and yes it includes Loki.
I used ioroot to root my G2 and I have no complaints, everything went through smoothly

Thanks a bunch! It seems as though this is going to be unexpectedly simple!
I highly doubt I'm going to be flashing anything other than a modified stock Rom for her. Stability, battery life, with no bugs is all I'm looking for as it's not my phone. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Also, I get why they're split at the development level, it's just that running through the QA and General sections is a little tougher. I do so appreciate all the help and advice!

Replacing factory firmware!!!
Hello,
i Am newbie here, recently i brought a LG G2 D802 supposedly from a EU store and i am in Finland, but to my surprise the software firmware is Asia made, Hong Kong to be particular. it goes like this, D80210b-HKG-XX build JDQ39B kernel 3.4.0. With this original Stock software, the 4G option is not shown( i know it can be done by hidden menu but i want to get a permanent fix); the MMS setting althought i did it manually by inserting the values provided by the Network service provider.Still i am unable to get that fix.
I am in turn to contacting my seller for the correct working OPEN stock rom installed G2 but if the case does not go like that then i wish to root it to the OPEN international ROM . From what i have read, if you update then it goes back to the HKG rom, if there any way i can remove the factory rom with the OPEN Rom and receive the update OTA and it will not revert back. I have been doing my research on this but i am not able to get the answers... Hope some one will shine some light on this.
Thanks in Advance !!!

FXZ for Kit Kat released!

Are you bricked after the OTA? Here's how to unbrick it, locked or unlocked.
One other note: this is NOT an official 183 FXZ, so if this doesn't work, it won't make things worse, but you'll just have to wait for the "official" 183 FXZ.
Thanks go to stras1234 for providing a KK FXZ for those that needed it to unbrick their phone.
Another big thanks goes to SamuriHL for providing a tool to use the FXZ provided by stras1234 to make your job easier to unbrick your phone and get you running with KK.
Go here to get the FXZ and tool to help you profit in the glory that is Kit Kat on the XT926 Droid RAZR HD -> http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/45494-how-to-xt926-upgrade-to-kitkat-ota/
I have removed all my instructions as they are useless and no longer necessary with the FXZ being released.

If you're already on stock 9.30, then it should work. I think the hang-ups for many who are manually loading it themselves via taking the OTA directly, were where if you were pushed the OTA and immediately accepted it and allowed it to go through and update it, it might have worked as long as you were unrooted on stock 9.30.
However, I chose to save the OTA off to the side (from the /cache directory) and hence, booted into the recovery manually, not realising that it installs a newer stock recovery and that's where I got hung up at. I thought the install failed, when in reality, I had to go back into the recovery and install it again. Of course, I tried using vol-down + vol-up and it wouldn't work.
If you currently have root though under 9.30, you might want to hold off until someone verifies if root can be obtained again. Because, without an unlocked boot loader, you will more than likely lose your access to root, especially if the latest "exploit" for 9.30 doesn't work under KK.
Your mileage may vary, but I don't have a locked bootloader phone to test this out on, so please, I do not accept any responsibility for what may happen if you try it, whether you have a locked or unlocked bootloader.
Thanks!
Just what I was needing to hear! I am currently rooted so I'll probably hold off. I've got a used Moto X on order though, should get it in today. After I test it out and verify that I can tolerate it and the smaller battery, then I might do some experimenting with the xt926 model I have and report back. Though, as anticipated as this update is, I'm sure someone will have already beat me to all the testing within a few hours from now lol
I'm on 9.30 with locked bootloader. I've tried your method but can't get pass signature verification. It just won't be installed on 9.30 firmware. There must be anything can be mess in updater script to avoid error signature.

I can't share the file, but if you look in the KitKat Tracking thread, you should find it there somewhere.
As an official soak tester, I'm not supposed to share the update. Technically, I'm not supposed to share ANY info, but I wanted to share this with other users who were having the same issue as I.
Thanks!
I do not believe the KK update for 9.30 has been shared anywhere.
No where that I can find. I've been scouring and following the forums waiting to find one myself.

did your phone actually ota to 9.30 or did you use a sbf/utility and flashed it to 9.30?
the problem some people are having is, they flashed to 9.30 but the correct version they should be on is 9.18 and this post http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/44920-xt926-update-1824610-update/?p=431391 explains why thats a problem.

For all my 9.30.1 people, I love you guys too.http://pan.baidu.com/s/1eQimdea
Enjoy that official KK ota for 9.30.1 over that slow ass chinese server and stop trying to get the 9.18.94 to work.

did your phone actually ota to 9.30 or did you use a sbf/utility and flashed it to 9.30?
the problem some people are having is, they flashed to 9.30 but the correct version they should be on is 9.18 and this post http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/44920-xt926-update-1824610-update/?p=431391 explains why thats a problem.

I flashed to 9.30. When I received the OTA from the soak push, I saved the OTA off to the side and didn't apply it immediately. Then, when I attempted to apply it (after using House of Moto to fastboot it back to 9.30 stock), it rebooted after it started applying and then went back to the recovery screen, but at that point, they had changed how you get into it. It's now volume-up + power, not volume-down + volume-up.
In any case, that second step needs to happen where you go back and re-apply the OTA.
I'm thinking if I would have taken the OTA automatically right after it downloaded, it was probably automated. That, or maybe Motorola/Verizon decided to make it a game and see if people could figure it out? :silly:
Safe root for me was a no go. But kitkat is pretty nice!

Thanks for all the info. Got KK up and running
I used these instructions - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52602576&postcount=1
and I used this file - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52610188&postcount=11
All last night I tried using the leaked file someone put up from that "slow ass Chinese server" haha. Long story short, it didn't work at all.
This morning I tried again, and nothing. So I tried this file (the one I linked up top) and it worked like a charm. I installed it via recovery, phone rebooted, used vol up + power to get into new KK recovery, applied leaked file again, and boom I got KK.
As someone in another thread said, during the update it does say "Phase 1 possibly complete". WTF is that all about?
I've flashed my Razr Maxx HD to Kitkat using that slow Chinese server. I'm so happy it runs much smoother than JB. Everything seems fast and smooth. The new aosp lockscreen is much better than blur lockscreen. The aosp messaging is also nice. I can live without root for a while coz I already have a Photon Q modding to max. The only thing I dislike is the stock launcher which is not transparent anymore. So,I replace it with Nova Launcher Prime. It looks better now. Btw,I'm using GSM network and I notice signal is better than previous JB.

[Q] Root and unlocked BL! Now what ROM?

First need to shout out the towelroot method for root and BL unlock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783157
SO easy and worked. Love it
Now that I have root AND unlocked BL, will be grabbing me some TWRP, backing up stock and trying some ROMs.
Question is: which one? I've read on some posts that only 1 or 2 ROMs work with KK-based phones. Is this accurate? I believe one post I read said only CM11 works, and its very laggy.
So which to grab? Do all KK ROMs under the development page work after the towelroot exploit? CM11, CarbonRom, Google Play Edition etc? Also, which has best, most reliable native wifi tether working? Any other big bugs among the ROMs that actually work?
You can still use the ones that don't support the new bootloader and kernel by downgrading to jb 4.1.2 since your now bootloader unlocked

You can use the new or older roms with unlocked bootloader just now you need to pay attention to what bootloader + kernel your on. The test builds of cm11 coming out won't work on the old bootloader + Kernel and the older ones won't work with the new kk bootloader + kernel

Just to clarify I am using the Droid Razr M (xt907). I had already taken the ota for 4.4.2 before i used towelroot. I have so far only got one ROM from @dhacker29 to boot. Its a cm11 from him. I can't figure out exactly which ROMs to flash. Is it the ones listed for the moto_msm 8960 or the ones listed for KK???

So I'm not used to looking for BL/kernel compatability usually I don't see this in the OP for a ROM, typically only see android flavor it based on, "JB" or "kk", which I thought would dictate whether a ROM would work on a device. Guess we need to look in the post for BL/kernel version (both which get updated during an OTA update?)
Like I said CM11 was the only one I knew of that for sure worked post-towelroot, that's why I was looking to see if others knew which other ROMs worked as well.
I know we can check kernel version in setting, if kernel matches a ROM then were bound to have the BL that matches as well, correct?
Sent from my XT907 using XDA Free mobile app
Only ones listed for KK will work for you now since your on the 4.4.2 ota however if you downgrade via fxz to 4.1.2 then you'll able to run the msm 8960 builds currently there are more choices once downgraded.

Easiest way to 4.4.2?

I'm wanting to update my gf's M to 4.4.2 and am wondering the easiest way to go about it. It's currently rooted and running a custom ROM, but she doesn't care about any of that. Could I just download the sbf and used RSD Lite to flash it? Or would I need to flash an earlier build and then take the OTA? I'm not worried about keeping root or an unlocked bootloader, but would there be any way to keep her Candy Crush data (that's the only thing on the phone that means anything to her)?
Yea just grab 4.4.2 KitKat and flash it with rsd. . then flash SuperSU or use towelroot to get root back

Awesome! Any chance at saving her game data? I was going to try Helium, but I remember that Moto broke it.

Titanium Backup attempts to recover/restore app data. It works on about 75% of apps I try, but some lose their data.

You can edit the .xml file so that it doesn't wipe userdata, and that should let her phone keep all its settings, apps, data, etc. It'd definitely be smart to also back that stuff up with TB as well, though. If you do edit the .xml that RSD Lite uses to flash, make sure to use something like Notepad++, and not just Windows Notepad. I think you also have to edit out the getvar line if you're flashing over a non-stock ROM. If you've done the NV edit with RadioComm, supposedly you can also delete the modemst1 and modemst2 lines, and you shouldn't have to redo the GSM hack.
Is there a way a person could flash just the bootloader in RSD instead of wiping my custom rom?

I've seen some reports that you can do the boot.img file, but it softbricks most devices. I'd suggest just backing up your stuff and flashing stock and then go back to your ROM. Or just leave it, unless its CM11.

I believe the answer would be no... I think your asking if you could go from the jb bootloader to the kk one or vise versa via rsd by only flashing the boot loader and keep your current ROM... if that's the case no as the Roms (not sure how it all works) have become dependent on which boot loader you have... So the ROM your on probably will not function if you could flash just the boot loader... Like as I'm on kk I can't use PAC man as it needs the jb boot loader or whatever... And if your on jb (last I checked) you can't use the newer builds of kitstalk... So your best bet would be stay as you are or flash the whole thing IMHO...but I may be wrong
Edit... That's the second time we have started a reply at the same time @xKroniK13x you get it out faster tho....

Thanks I'll just go ahead and go through the entire process of flashing everything for the new version of Paranoid Android.
UPDATE: I manually flashed everything but "system" and "recovery" and then flashed dhacker's recovery from here ( loki.rombitch . com/Devs/Dhacker29/msm8960/TWRP2710-RAZR_M-KITKAT.img ) then I flashed the Paranoid Android update and everything is working.

Yeah, I read about this in another thread and it worked fine. She's now on stock 4.42 and has her treasured Candy Crush data.
Now, if I could just get her wifi working again. I've done so much reading about the issue lying in the /persist (and/or /prima) folder, but, even after trying multiple "clean" copies of it and fixing permissions and everything else people have suggested, I can't get it working again.
I wish I could help there but I don't have any useful info to offer. I've heard a number of complaints about the WiFi on KK on the Razr M, so I don't think it's just you. I heard they're testing another KK update, maybe it'll fix it when it rolls out. I did notice that the time I tried flashing the KK radio onto my stock JB, it totally broke my WiFi and I had to flash back.

It stopped working when she was still on JB. I had hoped updating would fix it, but no such luck. The only way I managed to get it working in the past was by reflashing the ROM that was on the phone, but it stopped working again after a few weeks.

How to install Cyanogenmod?

That is because you cannot do it that way which is why you bootlooped. The CM threads speak of this numerous times. You need to RUU the US developer, then FLASH a Sprint variant ROM (like Bad Boys), then wipe and install CM which will work. The other option is to just use the developer edition with SuperCID/MID and then CM will work without flashing back to Sprint ROM's. I would go with the first option as you will gain better LTE as you wont be on Sprint's "global" connections.

PM me
Sent from my HTC 10 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Such a shame this thread went to PM. It seems like it would have been good basic information for experienced flashers whom are new to the HTC world. I came from the Galaxy S5 (SM-900R7 nTelos variant), and had been testing out LineageOS 14.1 on it (as an update to CM13, which I was building myself). This thread would have been helpful to help flash the HTC10 version. Still learning it. Quite different from the Samsungs, for sure!
would someone mind either posting in the thread or PM me back with a link or guide, step by step how to install Cyanogenmod. I have rooted a few Samsung phones before, but once I have them rooted and running stable I usually leave them alone...point being I have not rooted a phone in two years....
I'll be getting my HTC 10 Sprint phone tomorrow, so I would love a full step by step how to root, install twrp and finally how to install the ROM...BTW I used to run a ROM called liquid smooth....does that ROM still exists?
Is Cyanogenmod the best most stable ROM for the HTC 10 Sprint?
Im going to help the community as much as i can lol i'm going to start a separate thread on how to install Lineage sometime this weekend when i have time ..mind you this is my first time starting one so bare with me.
I can't seem to find the instructional thread..? I've been rooting & flashing HTC phones since the HTC 4G LTE, but this thing is a different beast entirely. I've unlocked via HTC Dev, installed unofficial TWRP 3.0.3-9, flashed the custom SU, & installed Viper (did all that from stock N). Viper is definitely super solid, but I've always preferred the CM/AOSP platform. I've wiped the internal like I've done a thousand times & flashed Lineage + gapps (arm64). the phone boots & gets to the lineage boot animation & sits there indefinitely. I let it sit for almost an hour, & obviously it wasn't going to boot.
What am I missing, guys? Any & all help will be greatly appreciated.
any ideas?

They dont have any roms built for the CDMA 10, notice there are no CM or AOSP roms in the SPrint htc 10 rom section. It probably didn't boot completely cause of a kernel mismatch.

Correct. You must be S-Off to do this. Put the .zip file, named 2PS6IMG.zip, on the root of your ext sd card, reboot to bootloader and flash it. After successfully flashing that file, you'll be able to run AOSP without issue. Like you said, download and flash. Enjoy! ?
