Anyone else noticing their tab screen randomly staying on?
It's always the same, screen randomly turns on and stays at the locked screen. It does this until I interact with it, or until it runs the battery dry.
It's sporadic, sometimes when charging or not even touched.
I haven't been able to isolate what triggers the screen to turn on.
One night it was charging face up and it just turned on and stayed on.
The other day, I left it in a drawer fully charged and came back to it completely drained.
Most other times it just happens when it's laying around.
Sometimes it stays on with notifications, sometimes no notifications.
But during the nights, I have it on blocking mode, so notifications wouldn't trigger the screen.
I also made sure daydream mode and stay awake are both off.
At a total loss here.
Anyone else have this issue?

I was having this issue when I had the brightness turned all the way up. The phone would randomly wake itself up. Try switching your time off to five minutes and turn off the smart stay. Worked for me and fixed my battery issue

My brightness is never all the way off, most of the time it's actually all the way down.
Time off has been switched between all the times, and smart stay has never been on.
Can't seem to figure it out.

Weird... Mine only did it with bright all the way up. Have you tried factory reset?
Yep, no luck.

I'm on CM7.1 stable. Haven't had battery issues for a while, but starting a few days ago I've been getting rapid drain with heating. Battery use screen shows that the phone is awake most of the time the screen is off, but it doesn't reveal which app keeps waking it up. I also tried Spare Parts to see if any app is hogging the partial wake lock, but nothing seems to account for it.
Any other ideas on how to trace it? Must've been an app that updated in the past 3-4 days.

Just to show how this looks, here is a screenshot of the battery screen.
Notice that I put the phone in airplane mode for the past hour as I was writing an exam, yet it still appears awake with screen off. The phone was warm when I retrieved it after an hour of the radios being off! Something is seriously wrong here.

I can only guess it is an application or service keeping your phone from going to deep sleep- also known as "partial wake lock" or something like that...
What to do? You can probably nail the culprit using some application like BetterBatteryStats (Market it, or look for it at xda's app thread- it is somewhere here). It will help you find who/what is keeping the phone awake.
I think that Battery Monitor Widget can also give you similar info.
You may need some help in the BBS thread to help you interpret the results as they are not always obvious or easy to tell who's the problem.
Right. What's confusing me is that nothing in the partial wake lock list is showing more than about 10 minutes of lock time, yet the phone gets stuck awake for more than a solid hour of screen off time.

I think I figured it out. I had a trigger set up in Tasker that resets the phone's data connection every time it crashes out with an error (and my carrier WIND Mobile does this quite frequently). On days when the battery was constantly draining, it may have been because the network was particularly error-prone and my trigger therefore kept going off. And each time it went off, Tasker must have flipped the phone into awake mode.
I've turned off the trigger for now, to see if it stops draining.
Hey guys, so I'm not sure what's going on but myself and several people on reddit are experiencing this issue:
http://www.reddit.com/r/nexus4/comments/1j7o85/n4_shuts_off_overnight_after_43_update/
Every morning since I've gotten 4.3 update, my nexus 4 shuts itself off throughout the night. It does not boot up until I force a shutdown (volume up and power) AND THEN try to power it on.
My nexus is completely stock, it has not been rooted or even bootloader unlocked. It seems to work fine regardless, but I like to keep my phone on in case of an emergency.
Can someone shed some light on this?

This sounds like the sleep of death issue. User tkolev has written the Safe Charge app to prevent this from happening when the Nexus 4 is charging. You can read his discussion of the issue at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2226698. The app is available at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sash.sodeliminator.

Thanks for the info Bob. However, I don't charge my phone throughout the night, so I don't think it's that.
It's not the battery either because when I do power it up, it's usually at least 40%+ battery. I'm really at a loss as to what could be causing this.

Sleep of death happens when the Nexus 4 is in deep sleep mode and fails to respond to a key press and can occur whether or not the phone is charging at the time. If you are able to charge the phone overnight, I would install and enable Safe Charge to see if it keeps the problem from occurring at night.

That's terrible . It only started when I updated to 4.3, and unfortunately I can't charge overnight. I'm guessing the Safe Charge app drains battery? If so, I don't think that would work.
Is there seriously no other way to solve this issue than a wakelock work around? It seems pretty significant to simply ignore on Google's part.
i hate to say it, but you may have to do a factory reset to determine whether or not its the phone, or some app that you have installed that is not playing nice with the update.
I've found the issue, turns out Netflix's chromecast update screwed up with 4.3:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/1jdenw/psa_if_you_have_netflix_read_this_before_updating/
Fix: Uninstall Netflix or stay on 4.2.2 until resolved. Thanks guys.
It keeps shutting off at 3:07 every night?

100% get a text screen stays on leave the phone come back 2 hours later n it drain the battery cuz the screen stayed on the whole time.

I had asked a similar question and found out that no matter what the screen is going to come on when you get a text message. Now it definitely isn't supposed to stay on. That's not normal. I'm sure you have restarted you phone already as it may just be a bug that needs a restart. Another option for you would be to download a third party text program such as handcent.

You didn't happen to go into developers settings and accidentally check the keep screen on while plugged in box did ya? Or try Display settings n see what screen off is set at. I know these are probably obvious things but ya never know, we're only humans and we do miss things sometimes. Hope it helps ya?

Yea thats what i thought screen usually goes off base on the screen time that i set 15 seconds. But the phone screen stays on after 15 seconds of receiving the text i have to press the power button in order to shut the screen which its ok when im around the phone not charge but when i leave in my desk for a while i dont get the chance to turn off the screen so the screen stays on n kills the battery its weird. I even disable the pop out in lockscreen on message settings and still the same. Set the display to turn off at 15 seconds n doesnt help :-/ sucks

My S5 battery is worse than s4 and G2. Could it be my Gear 2 watch that's the problem? GSAM tells me Android system is at 30%. I also have S Health pedometer running because I can't seem to find a way to turn it off.
Any suggestions?

You can turn off the S Health pedometer by opening the S Health app on your phone, select the pedometer, and hit pause. That will stop it from running.

When I hit turn off, it prompts me to Uninstall the app. It does that and now I have turn on as an option. Will the phone automatically reinstall the app? There's a buck I'd like to turn off, but makes no sense if it'll just install again.
Look at the things that's been running for 140hrs. There are more than this. Any of your phones have this happening?

when you turn off or disable an app, you are prompted to uninstall any updates that were downloaded. once you turn the app back on, if ever, then it will have to reinstall the updates as well.
Ok...i turned off all kinds of stuff.
I turned S Health off all together in app manager. I don't use it. The pedometer is still working on my watch.

Release day phone.
After turning off most of the bloat, today, I am at 49% @ 15hrs on battery. With over an hour phone call...lots of texting, some youtube as well. I think I resolved my bad battery issue.

awesome glad you got it fixed
Hey guys, been having an issue on my N4 since I installed lollipop. It seems that leaving bluetooth turned on is causing my phone to have the SOD or not wake up. Notification light will still flash, but screen won't turn on. The only thing to do is hold the power button down to force a reboot. I have seen this happen on my wife's N4 also so its not just my phone. I have left bluetooth off and the phone has stayed on for over a week. But after turing BT back on and using a bluetooth device (handsfree earpiece) with in a few hours this issue crops up.
I even restored my phone completely back to stock and am still seeing this issue. You can check the battery stats after the reboot and it shows it kills the cell modem, but the only thing that stays powered is the wifi, but the battery part of the screen shows like the phone is off.
I haven't tried leaving bluetooth on and having wifi off, but something is screwing it up. I was hoping the update to 5.0.1 would fix this since we got an updated kernel, but its still happening.
anyone else seeing this? surely I can't be the only one seeing it on my 2 phones.....
In fact I just experienced this this morning. The only difference is my phone appears to have locked up during the night and my alarm never went off which caused me to be late for work. I also don't have my Bluetooth on, only WiFi.
